08/10/07 Cwpan Ieuenctid Cymru Rownd 1 / Welsh Youth Cup Rd 1 Porthmadog 4 - Llangefni 3 Sicrhaodd Porthmadog fuddugoliaeth hwyr, ddramatig ar Y Traeth yng Nghwpan Ieuenctid Cymru ddoe (7 Medi).Ysbrydolwyd y tîm gan Carl Jones, a ddangosodd y gorau a’r gwaethaf o’i gêm wrth sgorio dwy gôl wych a wedyn, dau funud o’r diwedd, cael ei yrru o’r maes am weithred gwbl ddiangen. Aeth Llangefni ar y blaen hanner ffordd drwy’r hanner cyntaf, hanner a ddominyddwyd gan Porthmadog ond cawsant eu rhwystro rhag sgorio gan gyfres o arbediadau gwych gan Liam Ewing yn y gôl i Langefni. Ond wedyn daeth dwy gôl sydyn i Porthmadog cyn hanner amser, y gynta i Carl Jones ar ôl 39 munud gyda Daniel Rylance yn ychwanegu’r ail ar ôl 44 munud. Dechreuodd Llangefni yr ail hanner gan ddangos cryn benderfyniad i ddod â’r sgôr yn gyfartal. Sgoriodd Rylance y drydedd i Borthmadog gyda pheniad da ond wedyn brwydrodd Llangefni yn ôl eto i ddod â’r sgôr yn gyfartal unwaith eto. Daeth y gôl, a sicrhaodd y fuddugoliaeth i Borthmadog, 7 munud o’r diwedd yn dilyn rhediad gwych, gan chwaraewr y gêm Carl Jones, yn torri drwy ganol amddiffyn yr ymwelwyr i sgorio. Munudau yn ddiweddarach, cafodd ei yrru o’r maes am ddefnyddio iaith anweddus a sarhaus at y dyfarnwr. Daliodd Porthmadog ati i sicrhau buddugoliaeth haeddiannol. Roedd yn berfformiad ardderchog gan yr hogiau ifanc. Yn ogystal â Jones a Rylance, cafwyd perfformiadau da gan Steve Jones yng nghanol cae ac Aled Owen yng nghanol yr amddiffyn. Llongyfarchiadau i Gareth Piercey ac Iwan Thomas am eu gwaith gyda’r hogiau. Porthmadog pulled off a dramatic win in the Welsh Youth Cup in a cracking game at Y Traeth. Inspired by Carl Jones, who showed off the best and worst of his play by scoring two brilliant goals and also getting needlessly sent off in the last few moments. Llangefni opened the scoring midway through the half, a half which Porthmadog dominated but could not score due to a string of exceptional saves by Llangefni keeper Liam Ewing. But two quick goals for Porthmadog shortly before the interval, the first for Carl Jones after 39 minutes and the second for the lively Daniel Rylance after 44 minutes. Llangefni came out for the second half with renewed determination and equalised soon after the restart. Rylance added a third for Porthmadog with a sweet header before Llangefni equalised again. But it was left for man of the match Carl Jones to score the winner 7 minutes from time with a brilliant run and finish through the heart of the Cefni defence. Moments later he was dismissed for foul and abusive language towards the referee, but Porthmadog hung on for a well deserved win. This was an excellent performance by the young lads. Apart from Jones and Rylance, Steve Jones was prominent in midfield, while Aled Owen did well in the heart of defence. Well done to Gareth Piercy and Iwan Thomas for their work with the lads. Gerallt Owen 08/10/07 Hynt yr Ail Dîm (Medi) / Reserves Round-up (September) ![]() Yn ystod y mis, gwnaeth dau chwaraewr adael y clwb gyda Jonathan Peris Jones yn ymuno â Glantraeth a’r golwr Dylan Edwards yn mynd i Bontnewydd. Chwaraeodd Jonathan 5 (+10) o gemau yn UGC a Dylan unwaith. Dymunir yn dda i’r ddau. Yn ystod y mis felly, bu’r tîm heb golwr cydnabyddedig a bu’n rhaid perswadio Tecs Jones, a roddodd ei fenig heibio erstalwm, i ddod yn ôl. Three Gwynedd League games were played during the month. The month commenced on a high note with a thumping 5-1 win against Llanllyfni. Ceri Roberts and Steve Jones scored two goals each and Marc Cook claimed the other goal. A second league victory came by 3-1 against Llanfairfechan at the Traeth with Matthew Hughes, Steve Jones and Ceri Roberts scoring a goal each. They lost the other league game by 2-1 at Beaumaris with Iwan Tomos scoring late on for Port. Port travelled to North East Wales for a Junior Cup game and went down by 3-2 against Aston Park Rangers. Goals by Dylan Jones and Steven Jones in the second period were not enough against the Clwyd League club. Two players left the club during the month -Jonathan Peris Jones has joined Glantraeth and goalkeeper Dylan Edwards has joined Bontnewydd. Jonathan made 5 (+10) WPL appearances while Dylan made one WPL appearance. Both players are wished all the best for the future. The club has lacked a recognised goalkeeper and the team has suffered as a result. Tex Jones has been pulled out of long time retirement to help out. 01/10/07 Gêm Port Talbot yn dechrau am 7.00pm / Port Talbot match starts at 7.00pm ![]() Tomorrow night’s FAW Premier Cup tie, against Port Talbot Town, kicks off at 7 pm with the game having to be decided on the night (extra time and penalty shoot-out if necessary). Porthmadog will need to return to the kind of form shown against Welshpool and TNS if they are to progress in the competition. Having said that, it is worth noting that Port Talbot have lost all three league games away from the Remax Stadium this season. This game is vital in financial terms and could bring some attractive games to the Traeth should Porthmadog make progress. Support the club tomorrow night (October 2nd) at 7pm. The Champions League match will be shown in the clubhouse. 01/10/07 Haydn Jones ydy Gweinyddwr newydd yr Academi / Haydn Jones is the new Academy Administrator ![]() Haydn Jones has been appointed Porthmadog’s new Academy Administrator. Haydn has been away for some time in America where he was involved in running youth football. He also possesses an UEFA ‘C’ Licence and is keen to get involved in the coaching side of things. He is also keen to improve links with schools so that the best players in the area can be identified and encouraged to join the Academy where they will receive high quality coaching. The club welcomes Haydn back and feels sure that he will be a very valuable addition to the Academy staff. 01/10/07 Academi yn ail gychwyn ar 3 Hydref / Academy restarts on October 3rd Bydd Academi CPD Porthmadog yn cychwyn eu tymor nos Fercher nesaf, 3 Hydref. Under 16: 7.30 pm onwards. 27/09/07 Pat Laverty yn Y Trallwng / Pat Laverty at Welshpool Ymysg y cefnogwyr yn y gêm yn Y Trallwng ddydd Sadwrn oedd un o hen arwyr clwb Porthmadog sef Pat Laverty (gwelir llun ohono gyda rhai o gefnogwyr Port). Roedd yn aelod o dîm dra llwyddiannus y chwedegau. Ar ôl rhoi fyny eu statws amatur, aeth y tîm hwn ymlaen i gipio pencampwriaeth Gynghrair Cymru (Gogledd) tri thymor yn olynol rhwng 1966 ac 1969 . Roedd Pat Laverty yn gyn chwaraewr i glwb Sheffield Wednesday ac ymysg sêr eraill o’r cyfnod wrth gwrs oedd yr enwog Mel Charles. Yn 1966 gwnaeth y tîm hwn chwarae ar Gae’r Vetch yng Nghwpan Cymru yn erbyn Abertawe o flaen torf o 10,941. Ymysg chwaraewyr eraill y cyfnod hwnnw roedd y cyn chwaraewr rhyngwladol dros Gymru, Colin Webster, Gwynedd Jones (gynt o’r Wolves) a hefyd sêr lleol fel JO Williams a Dave McCarter. Roedd Pat wedi manteisio ar y cyfle i deithio o’i gartref yn Yr Amwythig i wylio Port yn sicrhau eu buddugoliaeth gyntaf o’r tymor. ![]() ![]() Amongst the spectators at Welshpool on Saturday was a former Porthmadog favourite Pat Laverty (pictured with Port supporters). He was a member of the highly successful Traeth team of the 1960’s. After relinquishing their amateur status, the team went on to win the Welsh League (North) in three successive seasons between 1966 and 1969. Pat Laverty was a former Sheffield Wednesday player and amongst the other famous names of the period was of course Mel Charles. Also in 1966, they played against Swansea in the Welsh Cup at the Vetch, before a crowd of 10,941. Amongst the other players who played with Pat were former Welsh international, Colin Webster, Gwynedd Jones (ex Wolves) and also ‘local’ stars such as JO Williams and Dave McCarter. Pat had come across from his home in Shrewsbury to witness Port’s first win of the season. 26/09/07 Y Derwyddon yn ymweld / Druids at the Traeth ![]() Cefn Druids, our next opponents at the Traeth, enjoyed the best possible start to the season when they defeated the reigning champions TNS in their opening fixture. However, their last two league fixtures away at Ffarar Road and then at Port Talbot have been something of a disaster as they went down to heavy defeats by the identical score of 5-1 in both games. In the League Cup on Tuesday, they recovered their composure at the back, losing by a single goal against TNS on the artificial pitch at Oswestry. Mike Heverin, who scored a hat-trick against Porthmadog last season, has been on form again with a hat trick against Caersws. Though the Druids form has been mixed, Porthmadog will need to continue the form shown at Welshpool if they are to start climbing the table. 26/09/07 Paul Roberts: Chwaraewr yr Wythnos / Paul Roberts: Man of the Week ![]() Paul Roberts has been named as the www.welsh-premier.com website’s ‘Man of the Week’ following his brace of goals which helped Port to their first win of the season at Welshpool on Saturday. He finished off a fine move involving Marcus Orlik, Kyle Jacobs and Carl Owen for his first after only six minutes which got Porthmadog off to a flying start. He added a second later beating former Port keeper Ged McGuigan at his far post. 24/09/07 Carreg filltir arall i Mike/ Another landmark for Mike ![]() Congratulations to stalwart defender Mike Foster who made his 300th WPL appearance in a Porthmadog shirt in the fine victory over Welshpool at Maesydre on Saturday. At the beginning of the 2006/07 season, Mike was rewarded with a testimonial for his remarkable service to the club. He also represented Aberystwyth Town and Bangor City in the WPL. 24/09/07 Dyma ddywedodd y rheolwyr / What the managers said Dyma sylwadau dau rheolwr ar ôl chwarae CPD Porthmadog yn ddiweddar: Here are the post match comments of two managers after their clubs played Porthmadog recently: Ken McKenna; “I feel clubs are getting fed up with us winning the league so often and they see playing against us as their cup final.” “Porthmadog were fantastic against us and deserved something from the match but I must applaud my players for battling until the final whistle.” Tommy Morgan: “We were shocking there are no complaints as Porthmadog were by far the better side” 24/09/07 Enillwyr y Raffl Haf / Summer Draw Winners Tynnwyd yr enwau ar gyfer y Raffl Haf ar nos Wener 14 Medi a dyma’r enillwyr: The draw for the Grand Summer Raffle was made on Friday night (Sept. 14th) and the winners are as follows: 1. The summer raffle made a profit of £1,223.80. 21/09/07 Dymuno’n dda i Gareth Caughter / Best of luck Gareth Caughter ![]() Gareth Caughter has left Porthmadog and has teamed with Airbus Broughton. The website wishes to thank him for his services to Porthmadog FC. Though he had his critics amongst the club’s supporters, the one thing that could never be faulted was the effort he put in on the field and he will be remembered as an energetic player who always gave a 100%. He was the player with the longest unbroken period of service for the club having been signed whilst still a teenager by the then manager Colin Hawkins. But he will always be closely identified with the Viv and Osian era and with the remarkable Cymru Alliance promotion season of 2002/03 when he contributed 14 goals. In the four seasons back in the WPL, he made over a 100 starts. A midfielder who also played up front on occasions, he was vocal both on and off the field and never short of an opinion. He is a character who will be missed and we wish him well. 17/09/07 Cwpan Cymru yr Ail Rownd / Welsh Cup Round 2 ![]() Porthmadog did not enjoy the best of fortunes when the names were drawn for the 2nd round of the Welsh Cup today. They have been drawn against Welshpool Town. The game will be played at the Traeth on October 6th. In last season’s competition Port defeated TNS (on penalties) in a memorable game, also at the Traeth. The only other all WPL game will be between Connah’s Quay Nomads and TNS. 17/09/07 Gwobr arall i wefan CPD Porthmadog / Porthmadog FC's website wins another award Wedi i'r safle yma gael ei enwi fel safle-gwe gorau pêl-droed Cymru ar gyfer 2006-07, rydym yn falch o gyhoeddi fod y safle rŵan wedi ennill gwobr arall. Cyhoeddodd gwefan Newyddion Pêl-droed Cymru fod safle Porthmadog wedi ennill eu gwobr am "Gwefan y diwrnod". Meddai Iwan Gareth, un o we-feistri y safle, "Rydym yn falch o dderbyn y wobr hon - mae'n rhoi cydnabyddiaeth am yr holl oriau o waith caled sy'n mynd i gynnal a diweddaru y safle". ![]() Following on from the success of being named as the best website in Welsh football for 2006-07, we're pleased to announce that this website has now been given another accolade. Welsh Football News website has named Porthmadog's website as their "Website of the day". Iwan Gareth, co-webmaster, said "We're pleased to receive this award - it's recognition for all the hours of hard work that goes into maintaining and updating the website". 17/09/07 Ysgrifennydd y clwb yn ymateb i ofnau’r cefnogwyr / Club Secretary responds to the Fans’ concerns ![]() Ydy’r clwb yn mynd i gael ei hun mewn trafferthion ariannol? Ateb: Yn union fel Osian a Viv o'i flaen, mae gan Clayton gyllideb sydd yn rhaid aros oddi mewn iddo. Mae’r gyllideb am eleni ychydig yn fwy na llynedd ond roedd hyn wedi ei gytuno gydag Osian cyn ddiwedd y tymor diwethaf. Felly does dim yn newid. Mae i fyny i Clayton sut mae’n rhannu allan yr arian sydd ganddo. Ydy’r clwb wedi troi ei gefn ar y polisi o ddefnyddio chwaraewyr lleol (Gwynedd a Môn)? Ateb: Mi fu Clayton ar ôl sawl chwaraewr lleol ond nid oeddent yn fodlon gadael eu clybiau presennol. Mae’r ffaith fod Llangefni wedi dod i fyny wedi gwneud yr alwad am hogiau lleol yn fwy ac felly maent yn gofyn am fwy o gyflog ac felly mae yn anoddach eu denu. Dim ond ar ôl trio yn lleol y bu’n rhaid iddo edrych ymhellach i ffwrdd. Ai ymateb mewn panig mae’r rheolwr wedi gwneud heb fawr o gynllun? Ateb: Yn amlwg mae nhw yn hogiau mae Clayton yn adnabod neu wedi clywed gair da amdanynt. Roedd Warren Beattie, er enghraifft, yn chwaraewr roedd Clayton wedi bod ar ei ôl drwy'r haf ond ei fod wedi brifo ac dim ond ar ôl ei weld yn chwarae yn ddiweddar y penderfynodd ei arwyddo. Amser yn unig a ddengys os ydynt yn ddigon da, ond maent wedi bod gyda clybiau da felly mae peth ‘pedigree’ yno. Yng nghanol y cae mae’r problemau. Does neb yno i wneud y gwaith brwnt ac yna mae’r amddiffyn i weld o dan bwysau o hyd. Rhwng Beattie, Parry, Jacobs a beth sydd gennym yn barod siawns y bydd canol cae cryf gennym yn fuan. On the website’s supporters discussion forum Port secretary Gerallt Owen has responded to some questions that have arisen including the occasional extreme response to Clayton Blackmore’s new signings. Is the club going to find itself in financial difficulty? Answer: Exactly as things were under Viv and Osian, a budget has been agreed and Clayton must stay within that budget. This budget is a little more than last year but it had been agreed to by Osian before the end of last season. Nothing has changed and it is up to Clayton to decide how that money is used. Is the club turning its back on the previous policy of using local players from Gwynedd and Anglesey? Answer: Clayton was interested in several local players but they were not prepared to leave their current clubs. The fact that Llangefni have been promoted has increased the demand for local players and they are now asking for more money which means that it becomes more difficult to attract them. Clayton looked further afield only after trying to sign locally based players. Is it a case of panic by the manager? Answer: Clearly they are players who had come to Clayton’s attention or he had received a tip-off about them. Warren Beattie is an example of a player whom he had been trailing throughout the summer but as he was injured he did not sign him until he had seen him play. Time will tell if these players are going to be good enough but they have been with good clubs and have some pedigree. Our problems have been in midfield. There has been no one to do the ugly work and as a result the defence is under pressure all the time. Between them Beattie, Parry, Jacobs and the players we have already should soon ensure a stronger midfield line-up. 11/09/07 Un arall i mewn / Another one joins Cyn i’r ffenestr drosglwyddo gau ddoe, daeth Clayton Blackmore ag un chwaraewr arall i mewn sef yr wythfed yn yr ychydig ddyddiau diwethaf. Chwaraewr deunaw oed ydy Darren Green wedi’i arwyddo o glwb Fulwood Amateurs. Clayton Blackmore made his eighth signing before the transfer window closed yesterday. He is 18 year old Darren Green who has joined from Fulwood Amateurs. Further details when they become available. 10/09/07 Gareth Parry yn ail-ymuno / Gareth Parry re-joins ![]() We understand that Gareth Parry will be returning to the Traeth, only a few months after moving to Farrar Road. This is definately good news for Port, as mid-field has been a wea point for the club up to now this season. It is also understood that Clayton Blackmore has beaten the deadline to sign Kyle Jacobs a 21 year old midfield player who made 24 WPL appearances for Bangor City in 2006-07. Jacobs was previously a trainee with Oldham Athletic and Mansfield Town making four League appearances at Field Mill. He later moved to Macclesfield from where he joined Bangor City. |
