24/03/09 Buddugoliaethau i Gastell-nedd a Phrestatyn / Victories for Neath and Prestatyn Mae Port wedi syrthio i’r 15fed safle ar ôl canlyniadau nos Fawrth. Cipiodd Castell-nedd fuddugoliaeth annisgwyl gartref o 2-0 yn erbyn Caerfyrddin sydd yn y 4ydd Safle gyda goliau gan Richard Ingam a Kerry Morgan. Yn y gêm am 6 pwynt yn Caersws, sicrhaodd Prestatyn eu buddugoliaeth gyntaf oddi cartref o 2-1 i dderbyn 3 phwynt hynod werthfawr yn eu brwydr yn erbyn y cwymp. Port have slumped to 15th place after Tuesday night’s results. Neath earned an unexpected 2-0 home win against 4th placed Carmarthen courtesy of goals from Richard Ingam and Kerry Morgan. In the 6-pointer at Caersws, Prestatyn secured their first away win of the campaign by 2-1 to pick up a much-needed 3 points in their battle against relegation. 24/03/09 Penwythnos Pêl-droed yn erbyn Newyn / Football Against Hunger Weekend Dydd Sadwrn diwethaf roedd clybiau Uwch Gynghrair Cymru yn dangos eu cefnogaeth i ymgyrch y Cenhedloedd Unedig i godi ymwybyddiaeth o’r angen brys i ymladd newyn a thlodi. Bydd yr arian a godwyd yn ystod y penwythnos yn mynd tuag at brosiectau dros y byd. Roedd mwy na 200 o glybiau proffesiynol a tua 100 stadiwm dros Ewrop gyfan yn rhan o’r ymgyrch. Roedd clwb Port hefyd yn cefnogi’r ymgyrch a Dydd Sadwrn roedd capteiniaid y ddau glwb yn cerdded i’r cae gan wisgo crysau-T yr ymgyrch. On Saturday clubs in the WPL showed their support for the United Nations awareness campaign on the urgent need to fight hunger and poverty. Funds raised during the weekend will help finance projects around the world. Over 200 pro football clubs and 100 stadiums were involved across Europe over the weekend. Port also showed their support and on Saturday the club captains entered the field of play wearing T-shirts backing the campaign. 24/03/09 Lotri Wythnosol / Weekly Draw Enillydd gwobr y Lotri Wythnosol o £100 yn Wythnos 11 yw rhif 13 Elaine Brierley, ac yn Wythnos 12 yr enillydd yw Rhif 280 Vera Gray. Ffurflen Gais / Application Form | Mandad Archeb Sefydlog / Standing Order Mandate The winner of the £100 Weekly Draw prize in Week 11 is No 13 Elaine Brierley, and in Week 12 the winner is No 280 Vera Gray. 23/03/09 Y Tri Mascot / The Three Mascots Ar ôl cyfnod heb fascot roedd yna dri ar ddyletswydd ddydd Sadwrn! Llongyfarchiadau i’r tri am eu gwaith yn arwain y tîm i’r cae a gobeithio i chi fwynhau eich prynhawn. Piti garw na gawsoch eich gwobrwyo gyda gweld eich hoff dîm yn ennill. Y tri oedd Siân Elen Rees, Millie Nunn Booton a Wil Richards. Roedd hefyd yn ben-blwydd ar Wil yn ddeg oed. Penblwydd hapus iti Wil oddi wrth Gwefan Port. Gobeithio pan ddewch i’r Traeth y tro nesaf bydd yr hogiau yn sicrhau buddugoliaeth ichi. It is some time since we last had a mascot but on Saturday there were three! Congratulations to the three for their work leading the team on to the pitch and we hope they enjoyed their day at the Traeth. It’s a pity that the team could not repay them with a win. The three were Siân Elen Rees, Millie Nunn Booton and Wil Richards. It was also Wil’s 10th birthday. Happy birthday Wil, from the Porthmadog website. We hope that the lads will give you a win the next time you visit the Traeth. 19/03/09 Rhagolwg: v Caernarfon / Preview: v Caernarfon Ar ôl dwy daith ddibwynt i’r Canolbarth bydd yn rhyddhad i ddychwelyd i’r Traeth gan obeithio ail gydio yn y math o chwarae a welsom yno yn erbyn Prestatyn a TNS. Mae canlyniadau oddi cartref wedi dod a mwy o bwysau am fuddugoliaeth dros Caernarfon. Ond er nad yw Caernarfon wedi cael fawr o lwyddiant y tymor hwn does dim yn sicr ym mhêl-droed a doeth fyddai nodi sylwadau rheolwr Caernarfon, David Rowe a ddywedodd, “Mae gennym saith gêm yn weddill -saith ffeinal gwpan- ac os y medrwn sicrhau ychydig o fuddugoliaethau bydd gennym siawns i aros fyny.” Ar ôl curo Caernarfon ddwywaith y tymor hwn ni ddylai Port roi’r cyfle i’r Caneris sicrhau un o’r buddugoliaethau yna –ond bydd rhaid iddynt fod â’u hagwedd yn iawn am y gêm. Mae anafiadau, gwaharddiadau a John Rowley ddim ar gael wedi gwanhau carfan Tomi Morgan dros y ddwy gêm ddiwethaf gyda chwaraewyr allweddol fel Mike Foster a Rhys Roberts allan ac anaf. Gyda John Rowley yn absennol nos Fawrth bu rhaid i Marc Lloyd Williams frwydro ar ben ei hun o dan y peli uchel yn erbyn Timmy Edwards –nid y math o wasanaeth y byddai Marc yn dymuno ei gael! Mae absenoldebau yn rhoi cyfle i eraill a cafodd Cai Jones fwy o amser ar y cae gan greu cyfle i Marc Lloyd Williams a ddaeth ac ail gôl Port nos Fawrth. Ni ddylem fod yn or besimistaidd -wrth edrych ar y tabl gwelwn fod bwlch o 5 pwynt rhwng Port a Caersws yn yr 17eg safle. Gobeithio fydd yr anafiadau wedi gwella cyn ddydd Sadwrn a dewch i’r Traeth i gefnogi’r hogiau. After two fruitless visits to mid-Wales it will be some relief to return to the Traeth and hope to reproduce the form shown there against Prestatyn and TNS. Poor away results recently have heaped more pressure for a win against Caernarfon. Despite the poor Canaries form this season nothing can be taken for granted in football and Port would be wise to take heed of the words of Caernarfon manager David Rowe when he says, “We have seven games left – seven cup finals – and if we can manage a few wins, we will still have a chance of staying up." Having already beaten Caernarfon twice this season Port should not be the club to give the Canaries one of those wins –as long as they are up for the game. Injuries, suspensions and unavailability have depleted Tomi Morgan’s squad over the past two games with key players, Mike Foster and Rhys Roberts, missing games through injury. John Rowley was not available on Tuesday and this left Marc Lloyd Williams battling alone for high balls against Timmy Edwards –not a situation which he thrives on! The absentees however gave promising forward, Cai Jones, time on the pitch and he confirmed his promise creating an opening for Marc Lloyd Williams for Port’s second goal at Welshpool. We should not become over pessimistic and should remind ourselves that there is a gap of 5 points between Port and second from bottom Caersws. Let’s hope for good news on the injury front and a good performance and good support on Saturday 18/02/09 Cystadleuaeth Colegau Cymru a Lloegr / Anglo-Welsh Trophy Ar ôl colli’r cymal cyntaf ar y Traeth tarodd Colegau Cymru yn ôl yn yr ail gymal yn erbyn Colegau Lloegr yn Telford. Llwyddodd Cymru, sydd yn cael eu rheoli gan Marc Lloyd Williams, i ennill yr ail gymal o 2-0. Gyda’r sgôr dros yr y ddau gymal felly yn gyfartal bu’n rhaid mynd i giciau o’r smotyn a Lloger sicrhaodd y fuddugoliaeth. After losing the first leg of the Anglo-Welsh Trophy at the Traeth the Welsh Colleges, managed by Marc Lloyd Williams, struck back in the second leg against the English Colleges at Telford. The Welsh College won the leg by 2-0. This brought the scores level over two legs. The game had to be decided on penalties and it was the English Colleges who ran out winners. 16/02/09 Cwpan Ieuenctid Gogledd Cymru / North Wales Youth Cup Gwnaeth Porthmadog waith caled o sicrhau lle yn rownd nesaf Cwpan Ieuenctid Gogledd Cymru. Roedd y gêm yn ddi-sgor ar ôl 90 munud ac yr un fath ar ôl hanner awr o amser ychwanegol. Ond curwyd ieuenctid Shotton Steel ar giciau o’r smotyn o 3-2. Ni ddylai fod angen y math yma o lotri gan fod Port wedi methu nifer o gyfleoedd yn ystod y gêm. Shotton ddechreuodd orau gan agor amddiffyn Port sawl gwaith a bu rhaid i Liam Shanahan wneud un arbediad arbennig i rhwystro’r clwb o Lannau Dyfrdwy. Ond wrth i’r gêm fynd yn ei blaen Port oedd yn rheoli. Yn yr ail hanner methodd Danny Rylance gyfle gwych -yn dilyn croesiad Cai Jones- pan saethodd dros y bar o 6 llath. Methodd Cai Jones ei hun ddau gyfle da yn enwedig un yn hwyr yn yr amser ychwanegol pan oedd ond y golwr i’w guro. Methodd Shotton tair allan o’u pump cic o’r smotyn. Cai Jones, Guto Davies a Shaun Jones sgoriodd o’r smotyn i Port. Roedd yn berfformiad da gan hogiau Port yn erbyn tîm cryf Shotton. Bydd Port yn wynebu Cei Conna yn rownd gynderfynol y gwpan –y dyddiad a’r lleoliad i’w gadarnhau. Porthmadog: Liam Shanahan, Darryl Smith, Guto Davies, Richard Jones, Shaun Jones, Tom Owen (Gavin Pugh 115), Mark Bridge (Robat Griffiths 46) Iwan Lane, Dylan Smith, Daniel Rylance, Cai Jones. Eilydd heb ei ddefnyddio: Rogan Chester Porthmadog made progress in the North Wales Youth Cup on Sunday, but made hard work of it. The match was goal-less after 90 minutes and also after 30 minutes of extra time, but the Porthmadog youngsters beat their opponents Shotton Steel 3-2 on penalties. However the game should never have reached the spot-kick lottery as Porthmadog spurned numerous chances during the game. It was Shotton who started brightly carving open the Porthmadog defence a couple of times and Port keeper Liam Shanahan made one excellent save to deny a Shotton striker. However as the game progressed Porthmadog got on top. In the second half Danny Rylance missed a glorious scoring opportunity following a superb Cai Jones cross by putting his volley from 6 yards over the bar. Jones himself missed a couple of chances, especially a late opportunity in extra time with a one on one with the Shotton keeper. In the penalty shootout Shotton missed three of their five with Cai Jones, Guto Davies and Shaun Jones scoring from 12 yards for Port. It was an excellent performance by the youngsters against an accomplished Shotton side. Porthmadog will now face Gap Connah’s Quay in the semi-final, date and venue yet to be confirmed. The Porthmadog team was as follows, Liam Shanahan, Darryl Smith, Guto Davies, Richard Jones, Shaun Jones, Tom Owen (Gavin Pugh 115), Mark Bridge (Robat Griffiths 46) Iwan Lane, Dylan Smith, Daniel Rylance, Cai Jones. Sub not used: Rogan Chester Gerallt Owen 15/02/09 Rhagolwg: v Y Trallwng / Preview: v Welshpool Mae un buddugoliaeth yn gwneud gwahaniaeth mawr i glybiau yn rhan isaf y tabl fel y dangosodd y Trallwng nos Wener a Derwyddon Cefn ddydd Sadwrn. Wrth sicrhau dwy fuddugoliaeth yn olynol byddai clwb yn mynd ymhell lawr y ffordd i gael eu hunain allan o drafferth. Ond yn y Drenewydd cafwyd perfformiad siomedig iawn yn yr hanner cyntaf a chollwyd y cyfle i godi pwyntiau. Ymlaen llaw byddai Port wedi disgwyl sicrhau pwynt o leiaf. O ganlyniad mae’r pwysau i ennill pwyntiau yn cynyddu wrth inni wynebu’r Trallwng a fydd yn teimlo fod tri phwynt nos Fawrth yn eu roi yn agos iawn at fod yn gwbl ddiogel. Yn Steve Rogers mae ganddynt ymosodwr sydd ar ben ei gêm ar ôl sgorio hat-tric yn erbyn Cei Conna a sgorio chwech yn ei dair gêm ddiwethaf. Ar y llaw arall derbyniodd Richard Harris a Mark McGubbin gardiau coch nos Wener. Bydd Richie Owen ac Eifion Jones ar gael i Port ar ôl gwaharddiad ond mae dal amheuaeth am ffitrwydd Mike Foster. Gobeithio y gwelwn Marc Lloyd Williams yn gwthio’n agosach at y 300 a thrwy hynny helpu Port tuag at ddiogelwch. Ar y pedwar ymweliad diwethaf â Maesydre mae Port wedi ennill dwy ac yn gyfartal mewn un. Bydd dychweliad Tomi Morgan i Faesydre yn siwr o ychwanegu ychydig o fin i’r achlysur a gobeithio bydd hyn yn gyrru’r hogiau ymlaen i sicrhau’r pwyntiau. At the lower end of the table one win can make a huge difference as Welshpool proved on Friday and Cefn Druids on Saturday. Any team that can go on and string together two consecutive wins is well on the way to getting themselves out of trouble. But on Saturday a poor first half performance cost Port the chance of picking up any points in a game where, beforehand, they might have expected to get something. As a result the pressure to pick up points increases and we face a Welshpool side who will feel that three more points on Tuesday will make them very close to being completely safe. They have an in-form striker in Steve Rogers who scored a hat-trick against Connah’s Quay and has scored 6 times in the last three games. The downside of Friday’s game for ’Pool was that Richard Harris and Mark McGubbin received their marching orders. Port will have Richie Owen and Eifion Jones free of suspension though there must still be some doubt about the fitness of Mike Foster. Let’s hope that Marc Lloyd Williams can get closer to the 300 and in so doing help Port to push on towards safety. On their last four visits to Maesydre Port have won twice and drawn once. The return of Tomi Morgan to Maesydre will give the game an extra edge and let’s hope that this will give Port that something extra to drive on to pick up the points. 12/02/09 Tomi wedi’i blesio gan y gefnogaeth / Tomi pleased with the support Dywedodd Tomi Morgan, wrth sgwrsio gyda Geraint Jones o’r Cambrian News, ei fod yn hapus iawn gyda’r derbyniad a gafodd gan y cefnogwyr ers iddo gyrraedd y Traeth. “Er mai dim ond dwy gêm adref sydd wedi bod ers imi ymuno mae’r cefnogwyr wedi bod yn wych ac rwyf yn hapus iawn gyda’r derbyniad.” Ond wrth droi at anghysondeb y tîm dywedodd, “Nid oedd y perfformiad yn erbyn Castell Nedd yn dderbyniol. Teimlais yn arw dros y cefnogwyr a deithiodd yr holl ffordd i lawr i weld y perfformiad hwnnw.” Y gêm hon oedd yr unig siom iddo ers iddo ymuno â’r clwb mis yn ôl. Am y fuddugoliaeth dros Prestatyn dywedodd, “Roedd yn ganlyniad gwerthfawr gan fod yna fwlch o 5 pwynt wedi agor rhyngom a’r ddau ar y gwaelod. Ein prif fwriad nawr ydy osgoi mynd i lawr gan beidio gadael pethau i’r funud olaf.” Er ei fod yn hapus iawn gyda perfformiad Marc Lloyd Williams o flaen y gôl, pwysleisiodd yr angen i bawb dynnu efo’u gilydd. “Gallwch chi ddim gadael y cyfan i un neu ddau unigolyn pan rydych mewn sefyllfa fel hyn. Rhaid gweithio fel uned.” Roedd yn disgwyl prawf llym yn y Drenewydd ond fod y fuddugoliaeth dydd Sadwrn yn rhoi hyder iddo am ganlyniad da arall. Tomi Morgan, speaking to Geraint Jones of the Cambrian News, declared himself happy with the reception he has received from the fans since his arrival at the Traeth. “We’ve only had two home games since I arrived, but the fans have been great so far and I am really happy with the reception.” But turning to the team’s lack of consistency he said, “We didn’t really turn up for the Neath game. I felt very badly for the supporters who travelled all the way down to see that performance.” This was however his only disappointment since taking over at the club in a month ago. Of the Prestatyn win he said, “It was a really valuable result we’ve opened up a five point gap between us and the bottom two. Now the main aim is to avoid relegation and that we don’t leave it to the last minute.” Pleased as he was with Marc Lloyd Williams’s performance in front of goal he stressed that everyone had to pull together. “You can’t rely on one or two individuals when you are in a situation like this. We have got to work as a unit.” He expected a stern test at Newtown on Saturday but last Saturday’s win gave him confidence that Port can get another good result. 12/02/09 Rhagolwg: v Drenewydd / Preview: v Newtown Y tro diwethaf i’r ddau glwb yma gyfarfod ar Barc Latham roedd Marc Lloyd Williams yn gwisgo crys y Drenewydd ac ar ôl dim ond 4 munud sgoriodd gan ychwanegu gôl arall ar ôl 18 munud i helpu’r Robiniaid sefydlu mantais o 4-0 wedi 26 munud. Daeth Port yn ôl gyda dwy gôl yn yr ail hanner i barchuso’r sgôr ychydig cyn y diwedd. Am y rhan fwyaf o’r tymor hwn mae’r Drenewydd wedi cadw eu hun mewn safle reit barchus yng nhanol y tabl. Unwaith mae tîm Darren Ryan wedi ennill yn y chwe gêm ddiwethaf gyda tair yn gyfartal a dros y tymor maent wedi bod yn gyfartal mewn wyth gêm. Yn y gêm gyfatebol ar y Traeth cafwyd perfformiad ail hanner da iawn gan Port i sicrhau buddugoliaeth o 3-1. Ar y diwrnod hwnnw cafwyd perfformiadau da i’r Drenewydd gan Craig Moses a Neil Mitchell a roedd Craig Williams hefyd yn beryglus yn torri o’r cefn. Sgoriodd Mitchell gôl dda ddydd Sadwrn yn erbyn Llanelli cyn i dîm Peter Nicholas ddod yn ôl i ennill 3-1.Hefyd derbyniodd cefnwr canol cadarn y Drenewydd, Hugh Clarke, gerdyn coch. Bydd Port yn dioddef o waharddiadau gyda Richie Owen ac Eifion Jones yn colli un gêm ar ôl cyrraedd 5 cerdyn melyn. Bydd hon yn gêm fawr arall i Port wrth iddynt geisio agor bwlch rhyngddynt a’r timau ar y gwaelod. Yn dilyn bydd gêm arall bwysig nos Fawrth draw yn y Trallwng. Bydd yna ddiddordeb mawr hefyd yn gweld os bydd Jiws yn closio at y 300. Ewch i i roi bet ar Drenewydd v Porthmadog. The last time these two clubs met at Latham Park Marc Lloyd Williams was a Newtown player and he took only four minutes to find the net, adding another on 18 minutes as the Robins established a winning 4-0 margin in the opening 26 minutes. Port gave the scoreline some respectability by the end clawing two goals back. Newtown have maintained a position of mid-table respectability for most of the season but their recent form shows one win in the last six games with three draws and over the season they have drawn eight of their games. In the corresponding game at the Traeth, Port produced an excellent second half performance to run out winners by 3-1. On that day there were good Newtown performances from Craig Moses and Neil Mitchell while Craig Williams was always a danger breaking from the back. Mitchell also scored with a quality finish after two minutes against Llanelli last Saturday before Peter Nicholas’s team fought back to win and Newtown lost stalwart defender Hugh Clarke who received a straight red card. Port will also suffer from suspensions on Saturday with Richie Owen and Eifion Jones both out for one match after reaching five yellows. This is another big match for Port as they battle to get themselves clear of the relegation dogfight. It is a big week with a visit to Welshpool to follow on Tuesday. Added interest too as Jiws homes in on the 300 goals. Visit to place a bet on Newtown v Porthmadog. 11/03/09 Bathodyn i ddathlu 125 mlynedd / 125 years commemorative badge Mae swyddogion CPD Porthmadog wedi comisiynu bathodyn i ddathlu 125 mlynedd o fodolaeth y clwb. Mae hyn yn rhoi Port ymysg y clybiau hynaf yng Nghymru. Penderfynodd y bwrdd sicrhau cynhyrchiad cyfyngedig –pob un wedi’u rhifo- o fathodyn y dathliad a fydd hwn yn rhan o ddathliadau’r 125 mlynedd. Mae’r bathodyn ar gael yn y siop ar y we ac yn siop y clwb yn y Traeth. Porthmadog FC have produced a special badge to commemorate 125 years of the club’s existence. This puts Porthmadog amongst the oldest football clubs in Wales. The board has decided to produce this limited edition commemorative badge-with each one numbered- as part of their 125 year celebrations. The badge is now available at the online shop and at the club shop at the Traeth. 11/03/09 Gweinyddwr newydd i’r Academi / Academy has a new administrator Wrth ysgrifennu yn rhaglen y clwb canmolodd Eddie Blackburn, gweinyddwr newydd yr Academi, ei rhagflaenydd Angela Roberts a wasanaethodd yr Academi mor dda o haf 2008 i fyny at y Nadolig. Dywedodd Eddie, “Mae’r Academi yn dal yn llewyrchus ac yn adeiladu ar y seiliau da iawn a osodwyd gan Angela. Mae ei chyfraniad wedi gwneud fy ngwaith i yn llawer haws oherwydd y cofnodion manwl a dyna sicrhaodd dau Awdit llwyddiannus sydd yn golygu fod arian yn dal i ddod inni oddi wrth yr Ymddiriedolaeth Bêl-droed Cymru.” Dywedodd y gweinyddwr newydd fod, “..... llawer o’r diolch hefyd yn mynd i Evan Evans, hyfforddwr Dan 11, sydd wedi cael profiad gyda Academi Bangor a hefyd brofiad o weinyddu’r gêm broffesiynol yn Ewrop. Y bwriad ydy dal i ddatblygu’r Academi, dan arweiniad y cyfarwyddwr Mel Jones a’r hyfforddwyr profiadol, i wneud Porthmadog yn Ganolfan Rhagoriaeth bêl-droed ieuenctid yn yr ardal. Mae’r hyfforddwyr profiadol yn gweithio i wella safon yr hyfforddi a safon y chwaraewyr ac mae’r canlyniadau ar y cae a’r perfformiadau wedi bod yn galonogol iawn.” Mae Eddie hefyd yn diolch i’r hyfforddwyr Grwpiau Oed am yr help a gafodd yn ystod ei fisoedd cyntaf yn y swydd. Mae’n cloi’r adroddiad gyda sialens. “Pwy sy’n gwybod pryd y gwelwn y cyntaf o’r hogiau yn cael cyfle yn y tîm cyntaf? Daliwch i wylio.” Eddie Blackburn, the new Academy administrator, writing in the match programme has thanked and praised his predecessor Angela Roberts who served the Academy well from late summer until Christmas 2008. He says “The Academy continues to thrive, building on the very good foundations laid down by Angela and my job has been made much easier by the presence of excellent records which led to two successful Audits guaranteeing continued funding from the Welsh Trust.” The new administrator said also “ …. a lot of the credit must go to Evan Evans the U 11 coach based on his experience at the Bangor Academy and also European wide connections in the administration of the professional game. “The aim is to continue to grow the Academy and under the Director Mel Jones and the very experienced coaches make Porthmadog a Centre of Excellence for youth football in the area. The experienced coaches are striving to improve their own and the players’ standards and the general playing standards and results have been very encouraging.” He also thanks the Age Group coaches for all the help given during his first few months in the job. He ends his report with a challenge: “Who knows when we will see the first of our boys breaking into the first team? Watch this space. ” 10/03/09 Colegau Cymru yn anlwcus i golli / Welsh Colleges suffer unlucky defeat Colli o 2-0 oedd hanes Colegau Cymru yng nghymal cyntaf y gystadleuaeth rhwng Cymru a Lloegr pnawn ddoe (9 Mawrth) ar y Traeth. Rheolwr Colegau Cymru ydy Marc Lloyd Williams ac mae’n dal yn optimistaidd y gall ei dîm troi pethau yn yr ail gymal yn Telford ddydd Llun nesaf. Dywedodd ar ‘Sgorio’ neithiwr fod ei chwaraewyr ifanc wedi perfformio’n dda ac yn haeddu ennill. Ond am eu bod wedi cymryd eu cyfleoedd Lloegr aeth a hi. Sgoriodd Lloegr, diolch i’r ymosodwr Harry Honesty, o’r unig ddau gyfle a grëwyd tra fod Cymru wedi methu manteisio ar nifer fawr o gyfleoedd. Oddi ar y cae mae’r gwahaniaeth mwyaf rhwng y ddwy garfan -yr adnoddau ariannol ar gael. Roedd Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Lloegr yn rhoi pob cefnogaeth i’w tîm tra roedd Colegau Cymru yn derbyn yr un dimau goch. Er hynny pob hwyl i’r hogiau yn yr ail gymal. The Welsh Colleges, managed by Marc Lloyd Williams, went down by 2-0 in the first leg of the Anglo Welsh Trophy played at the Traeth yesterday afternoon (March 9th). However he remains optimistic about the second leg to be played in Telford next Monday. He told S4C’s ‘Sgorio’ last night that his young team had performed well and that they had deserved to win. The English Colleges won because they took their chances. Whilst the Welsh boys had created a host of chances without being able to capitalise their English counterparts took virtually the only two chances they created thanks to their talented striker Harry Honesty. The big difference between the two squads lies off the field -the financial resources available. Whereas the English Colleges were well supported by their FA, the Welsh boys were not given any monetary support by the WFA. In spite of this best of luck in Monday’s return match. 09/03/09 Cyfraniadau hael gan yr Is-lywyddion / Generous contributions by the Vice-presidents Mae is-lywyddion Clwb Pêl-droed Porthmadog wedi cyfranu £4,000 tuag at yr achos yn ystod y tymor hwn, medd Trysorydd y clwb Dafydd Wyn Jones. "Nid oes gan y clwb gyfarwyddwyr cyfoethog" meddai "trwy ymdrechion caled nifer fechan o wirfoddolwyr mae'n llwyddo i gynnal ei hun yn dra gwahanol i fwyafrif clybiau'r Gynghrair, sydd yn derbyn cefnogaeth cyfarwyddwyr arianog neu noddwyr sylweddol. Mae'r bingo wythnosol yn gyfranydd selog, yn ogystal a'r sêl cist car fydd yn cychwyn eto ar ddydd Sul 29 Mawrth, rafflau, y 'tote' misol a'r draw wythnosol, hysbysebion gan fusnesau cefnogol lleol, y marcî a'r bariau allannol ac yn ddiweddar y clwb cymdeithasol. Ond cyfraniad 'rydym yn werthfawrogi yn fawr hefyd yw y £4,000 a ddaw mewn rhoddion gan unigolion. Mae rhain yn amrywio o gefnogwyr sydd wedi helpu neu dilyn y clwb ar hyd y blynyddoedd i'r rhai hynny sydd bellach yn byw ymhell o'r ardal ond yn awyddus i'n cefnogi". Bydd rhestr o is-lywyddion y tymor hwn yn rhaglen y gêm gatref nesaf yn erbyn Caernarfon ond os oes gan unrhyw un ddiddordeb mewn cyfranu fel is-lywydd, mae croeso iddynt gysylltu a Dylan Rees ar 07900512345. Porthmadog FC's Vice Presidents have contributed a princely sum of £4,000 towards the club's overheads this season according to Treasurer Dafydd Wyn Jones. "As a club we do not have wealthy directors and the vast majority of our funds are raised by a small band of hard working volunteers. We have a number of sources from the weekly bingo sessions, the car boot sale which starts again on Sunday 29th of March, raffles, the monthly tote and weekly draw, raffles, much appreciated advertising support from local businesses, the marquee hire and mobile bar business and, more recently, the social club at the Traeth. We are possibly one of the very few clubs in the Welsh Premiership who do not have the luxury of wealthy benefactors or major sponsors. We really appreciate, however, the support of a small number of Vice Presidents who have donated £4,000 this season alone. These vary from individuals who have either been involved in running the club or have been life long supporters, to those who have moved away from the area but wish to support their local football team." A full list of Vice Presidents will be highlighted in the match programme for the Caernarfon match on the 21st. March. Anyone who would like to become a Vice President can contact Dylan Rees on 07900512345. 09/03/09 Lotri Wythnosol 06/03/09 / Weekly Draw 06/03/09 Enillydd yr wobr o £100 yn y Lotri Wythnosol a dynnwyd ar nos Wener 6ed o Fawrth oedd rhif 210, Ann Jones of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Ffurflen Gais / Application Form | Mandad Archeb Sefydlog / Standing Order Mandate The winner of the £100 prize in the Weekly Draw on 6th March was number 210, Ann Jones of Blaenau Ffestiniog. O ganlyniad i’r hat-tric a sicrhaodd y fuddugoliaeth dros Prestatyn pnawn Sadwrn mae cyfanswm goliau Marc Lloyd Williams bellach o fewn trwch un hat-tric arall i gyrraedd 300 o goliau yn ei yrfa yn UGC. Wedi cyfnod hesb o bum gêm heb sgorio, ers iddo sgorio hat-tric yn erbyn Brychdyn, mae wedi mynd a’i gyfanswm i 297 gôl a sgoriwyd i chwe gwahanol glwb yn UGC. Pan fydd yn cyrraedd y 300 bydd hefyd yn cyrraedd carreg filltir arall sef 50 o goliau yng nghrys Port. Daeth y goliau yma mewn dau gyfnod ar y Traeth. Yn ystod y cyfnod cyntaf 1992-94 sgoriodd 28 o goliau ac mae wedi ychwanegu 19 arall y tymor hwn. Bydd ei record yn siŵr o sefyll am amser hir iawn gan mae’r cyn chwaraewr Chris Summers sydd yn ail yn y rhestr gyda 177 o goliau gyda Rhys Griffiths (Llanelli) yn drydydd gyda 152 gôl. Marc Lloyd Williams, following his match winning hat-trick performance against Prestatyn on Saturday, now stands just another hat-trick’s distance from the ‘Big 300’ WPL career goals. After a barren spell of five games since he last scored, and that too was a hat-trick, against Airbus, he has now taken his tally to 297 goals, scored for six different WPL clubs. At the same time as he reaches the magic 300 he will also reach the milestone of 50 goals in a Port shirt. These goals came in two spells at the Traeth. During his first spell (1992-94) he scored 28 goals and he has added a further 19 goals this season. His scoring record will stand for a very long time as former player Chris Summers stands second in the all time list with 177 goals and Rhys Griffiths comes next with 152 goals. 06/02/09 Chwefror yr Ail Dîm / Reserves February Round-up Gohiriwyd gêm yr Ail Dîm yn erbyn y Brifysgol oherwydd fod y myfyrwyr wedi methu codi tîm. Yr wythnos ganlynol aeth Real Llandudno ar y blaen ar ôl 38 munud ond diolch i gic o’r smotyn gan Steven Jones daeth Port yn gyfartal. Aeth Port ymlaen yn yr ail hanner gyda gôl gan Cai Jones cyn i Craig Roberts roi’r bêl yn ei rhwyd ei hun i wneud y gêm yn ddiogel i Port. Cafodd Port gychwyn da adref i Gaerwen gyda Danny Rylance yn sgorio ar ôl 8 munud ac eto ar ôl 11 munud. Ond daeth y clwb o Fôn yn ôl i wneud y sgôr yn ddau yr un erbyn hanner amser. Aeth y Gaerwen ymlaen ar ôl 50 munud ond tro Port oedd hi i ddod a’r sgôr yn gyfartal eto. Munud cyn y diwedd sicrhaodd y Gaerwen y tri phwynt gyda cic gosb lwyddianus. Aeth Port allan o gystadleuaeth Tarian Eryri yn erbyn Bodedern gyda un gôl yn profi’n ddigon i guro deiliaid y Darian. The Reserves game against the University had to be postponed as the students were unable to raise a team. The following week, against Real Llandudno, Port found themselves behind after 38 minutes but drew level before half-time thanks to a Steven Jones penalty. Cai Jones then put Port ahead in the second period and the game was made safe when Craig Roberts put through his own goal. Port got off to a flying start at the Traeth against Gaerwen with Danny Rylance finding the net in the 8th and then the 11th minute. The Anglesey club pulled one back direct from a corner and then drew level before half-time. Gaerwen went ahead after 50 minutes but Port levelled matters again but with a minute left Gaerwen snatched the points from a free-kick on the edge of the box. In the Eryri Shield the holders Port were dismissed from this year’s competition by Bodedern with a single goal proving enough. 05/02/09 Liam Shanahan wedi’i ddewis i Colegau Cymru / Liam Shanahan selected for Welsh Colleges Enwyd golwr Port, Liam Shanahan, yng ngharfan Colegau Cymru sydd i chwarae Colegau Lloegr ar y Traeth ar bnawn ddydd Llun, 9 Mawrth gyda’r gic gyntaf am 3 pm. Mae dau chwaraewyr arall o Wynedd a Môn wedi’u henwi sef Adam Jackson (Dyffryn Nantlle) a Marc Evans (Caergybi). Mae’r tri yn fyfyrwyr yng Ngholeg Menai. Wedi cynnwys yn y garfan hefyd mae Joe Price (Derwyddon Cefn) a ddaeth i’r cae fel eilydd yn erbyn Port yn ddiweddar. Y garfan ydy: Liam Shanahan, Ryan Griffiths (Merthyr), Keiron Hays (Llanelli), Adam Hesp (Derwyddon Cefn), Aaron Pritchard (Llandudno), Tyrone McFadden (Y Drenewydd), James Harper (Pontardawe), Nathan Logan (Llanelli), Declan John (Llanelli), Josh Ellis (Pen-y-bont), Adam Jackson, Joe Price, Liam Hutchinson (Pen-y-bont), Marc Evans, Ritchie Evans, (Y Drenewydd), Sam Wade (Lido Afan), Sreven Trudgill, (Pen-y-bont). Port keeper Liam Shanahan has been named in the Welsh Colleges squad to play the English Colleges at the Traeth on Monday afternoon, 9 March, kick off at 3 pm. Other players from Gwynedd and Môn are Adam Jackson (Nantlle Vale) and striker Marc Evans (Holyhead). All three players are students at Coleg Menai. Also included is Joe Price (Newi Cefn Druids) who made a substitute appearance against Port recently. The full squad is: Liam Shanahan, Ryan Griffiths (Merthyr), Keiron Hays (Llanelli), Adam Hesp (Newi), Aaron Pritchard (Llandudno), Tyrone McFadden (Newtown), James Harper (Pontardawe), Nathan Logan (Llanelli), Declan John (Llanelli), Josh Ellis (Bridgend), Adam Jackson, Joe Price, Liam Hutchinson (Bridgend), Marc Evans, Ritchie Evans, (Newtown), Sam Wade (Afan Lido), Sreven Trudgill, (Bridgend). 04/02/09 Rhagolwg: v Prestatyn / Preview: v Prestatyn Bydd y ddau dîm yn dod i’r gêm hon yn dilyn perfformiadau siomedig. Port yn colli yn erbyn Castell-nedd gan roi eu perfformiad salaf o’r bedair gêm ers i Tomi Morgan gymryd yr awenau ar y Traeth. Dioddefodd Prestatyn hefyd gan golli o 5-1 yng Nghwpan Cymru yn Aberystwyth. Mae’r ddau dîm hefyd ar 23 o bwyntiau gyda pherfformiadau diweddar y ddau glwb yn ddigon tebyg. Bydd hyn i gyd yn gwneud y gêm ar y Traeth yn un am y chwe phwynt gyda Port yn ymwybodol mai dim ond 9 gêm sydd ar ôl yn y tymor. Jon Fisher-Cooke ydy prif sgoriwr Prestatyn gyda 8 gôl gynghrair a tair o’r rheini wedi’u sgorio yn erbyn Port yn y gêm gyfatebol ar Ffordd Bastion. Yn y gêm honno hefyd cafwyd perfformiad arbennig gan eu cefnwr chwith Jac Lewis a sgoriodd ddwywaith gan roi ochr dde amddiffyn Port dan bwysau mawr. Bydd yr ymwelwyr heb eu chwaraewr-reolwr Neil Gibson sydd wedi’i wahardd tra mae’n siwr y bydd amheuaeth am ffitrwydd Rhys Roberts i Port ar ôl iddo adael y maes ar ôl dim ond 12 munud gydag anaf i’w ben glin. Dylai John Rowley fod ar gael eto ar ôl iddo fethu gêm dydd Sadwrn oherwydd galwadau gwaith. Dydi Prestatyn heb gael un buddugoliaeth oddi cartref hyd yma ond bydd cefnogwyr Port yn cofio i Gaersws a Chastell-nedd gyrraedd y Traeth yn yr un sefyllfa a gadael gyda'r tri phwynt. Dylai hynny wneud yr hogiau yn fwy penderfynol fyth i godi’u gêm fel y gwnaethant yn erbyn TNS a’r Derwyddon. Dangoswch eich cefnogaeth i’r hogiau a gobeithio y cawn y tri phwynt. Ewch i i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Prestatyn. Both sides go into this game on the back of disappointing performances. Port went down to relegation rivals Neath in by far the poorest performance of the four games since Tomi Morgan’s arrival. Prestatyn suffered also and were on the wrong end of a 5-1 Welsh Cup defeat at Aberystwyth. Both sides stand on 23 points and have similar form over the last few games. All of this makes the game at the Traeth a vital six pointer with the games remaining, for Port, now in single figures. Jon Fisher-Cooke is Prestatyn’s leading scorer with 8 league goals, three of which came in the corresponding game at Bastion Road. In that game left-back Jack Lewis was also outstanding using his pace to attack the right side of the Port defence and help himself to two goals. The visitors will be without their player-manager Neil Gibson who is suspended while there must be a doubt over the fitness of Rhys Roberts for Port after leaving the pitch with a knee injury after only 12 minutes. John Rowley, however, should be available again after missing out on Saturday due to work commitments. Prestatyn are without a single victory on the road this season but Port supporters will be painfully aware of the fact that Caersws and Neath arrived at the Traeth in a similar position but returned home with all three points. That gives the Port team an added incentive to raise their game as they did against TNS and Cefn Druids. Get behind the lads and let’s hope for a vital three points. Visit to place a bet on Porthmadog v Prestatyn. 02/03/09 Y Lotri Wythnosol a’r Tote Misol / The Weekly draw and Monthly Tote Tynnwyd rhifau’r Lotri Wythnosol a’r Tote Misol yn ystod y Bingo yn y Ganolfan nos Wener diwethaf, 27 Chwefror. Y rhifau a dynnwyd oedd 12 a 40. Nid oes gennym enillydd ar hyn o bryd, ond os ydych am hawlio’r wobr, rhaid gwneud hynny erbyn 8.00pm ar ddydd Gwener 6 Mawrth. Bydd y wobr o £360 yn cael ei chynnwys yng nghystadleuaeth y mis nesaf a fydd yn cael ei thynnu ar 27 Mawrth, pan rydym yn disgwylir gwobr o £750. Y rhif buddugol yn Lotri Wythnosol y clwb yw rhif 316 ac enillydd y wobr o £100 yw Paula Pritchard o Borthmadog. Ffurflen Gais / Application Form | Mandad Archeb Sefydlog / Standing Order Mandate The draw for the Porthmadog Football Social Club Monthly Tote took place on Friday 27th February at Y Ganolfan. The winning numbers are 12 and 40. Subject to verification there are no winners and any claims should be made before 8.00pm on Friday 6th March. The prize money of £360 will be carried forward to the next draw on Friday 27th March, when the prize money is expected to be £750. The winning number of the club’s Weekly Draw is number 316 and the winner of the £100 prize is Paula Pritchard of Porthmadog. 01/03/09 Dyddiad newydd i gêm y Trallwng / New date for Welshpool game Bydd y gêm gynghrair yn erbyn y Trallwng a ohiriwyd oherwydd yr eira yn cael ei chwarae ar gae Maesydre ar nos Fawrth, 17 Mawrth gyda’r gic gyntaf am 7.30 pm. Felly, bydd yn rhaid i Port ymweld â Threfaldwyn ddwy waith mewn pedwar diwrnod. The league match against Welshpool, postponed because of the snow, will now be played at the Maesydre Ground on Tuesday, March 17th with a 7.30 pm kick off. This means that Port will visit Montgomeryshire twice in four days. 01/03/09 Gêm Rhyngwladol Colegau ar Y Traeth / Colleges International at the Traeth Bydd y cymal cartref y gystadleuaeth rhwng Colegau Cymru a Lloegr yn cael ei chynnal ar Y Traeth ar ddydd Llun 9 Mawrth gyda’r gic gyntaf am 3 pm. Bydd uchafbwyntiau byr yn cael eu dangos ar ‘Sgorio’ S4C ar yr un noson. The home leg of the Anglo-Welsh Trophy between Wales and England Colleges will this year be played at Y Traeth Porthmadog on Monday 9th March ko 3pm, with brief highlights on S4C’s ‘Sgorio’ later that evening. 26/02/09 Rhagolwg: v Castell Nedd / Preview: v Neath Athletic Gyda’r frwydr yn y gwaelodion yn poethi bydd Port yn gobeithio ail adrodd y math o berfformiad a gafwyd oddi cartref yn Derwyddon Cefn pan yn ymweld a’r Gnoll am y tro cyntaf –cae a wnaed yn enwog gan y clwb rygbi lleol. I sicrhau’r tri phwynt bydd angen i Port guro’r clwb o’r De am y tro cyntaf erioed. Tair gwaith mae’r ddau glwb wedi cyfarfod a Chastell Nedd enillodd bob tro. Y tymor diwethaf, ar Traeth, enillodd Castell Nedd eu gem gyntaf erioed yn UGC ac wedyn cwblhau’r dwbl mewn gêm agos ar gae mwdlyd ym Mharc Llandarcy. Ym mis Rhagfyr ar Y Traeth cafwyd perfformiad siomedig a adawodd Castell Nedd i ennill eu gêm gyntaf oddi cartref o’r tymor. Ond os ydy’r perfformiadau dros y dair gêm ddiwethaf yn cael eu hail adrodd bydd Castell Nedd yn cael Port yn wrthwynebwyr cryfach a fwy threfnus y tro hwn. Adref mae Castell Nedd wedi ennill tair gwaith y tymor hwn gyda tair arall wedi gorffen yn gyfartal. Eu perfformiad gorau yn ddiweddar oedd buddugoliaeth ar y Gnoll dros Airbus o 3-1. Y prif sgoriwr eleni eto ydy Andy Hill ac mae Richard French hefyd yn flaenwr peryglus. Mae hon yn gêm bwysig i’r ddau glwb. Os bydd Port yn fuddugol byddant yn agor bwlch o saith pwynt dros eu gwrthwynebwyr ond bydd coli yn cau’r bwlch i un pwynt. Ewch i i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Castell-nedd. With the battle at the bottom of the table hotting up Port will be looking for a repeat of their away success at Cefn Druids last week when they visit the Gnoll –a ground made famous by the local rugby club- for the first time. To collect the three points Port will need to gain their first ever win over the South Wales club. The two clubs have played each other three times and Neath have been winners on each occasion. Last season they won their first ever WPL game at the Traeth and then completed the double over Port in a close contest on a muddy Llandarcy Park. Back in December a very disappointing Port allowed Neath to gain their first win on the road this season. However if performances over the last three games are anything to go by then Neath will find Port sterner and better organised opponents this time round. On their own ground Neath have won three times and drawn three this season. Their best recent performance was a 3-1 home win over Airbus. Andy Hill is once again their leading scorer and Richard French is another dangerman up front. This is a vital game for both sides. A win for Port will open a 7 point gap over their opponents while defeat will cut it to one. Visit to place a bet on Porthmadog v Neath. 25/02/09 Yucatan ac eraill yng Nghlwb y Traeth / Yucatan and others at the Traeth Clubhouse Bydd y band lleol Yucatan yn chwarae yng nghlwb y Traeth nos Wener 27/02/09, gyda’r drysau'n agor am 7pm a'r noson yn dechrau am 8pm. Hefyd yn chwarae fydd Y Bandana, FanAlffresco a Fontella Hoax. Bydd hefyd cyfle i weld gêm rygbi 6 Gwlad rhwng Ffrainc a Chymru ar y sgrîn fawr. Pris mynediad yw £5. Local band Yucatan will be playing at the Traeth Clubhouse on Friday night 27/02/09, with the doors opening at 7pm and the evening starting at 8pm. Also playing will be Y Bandana, FanAlffresco and Fontella Hoax. There will also be a chance to see the 6 Nations rugby clash between France and Wales on the big screen. The entry price is £5. 25/02/09 Ydych chi’n cofio Johnny Griffin? / Do you remember Johnny Griffin? Bydd llawer o gefnogwyr hyn yn cofio’n dda am y dyddiau pan oedd John Griffin yn gefnwr chwith i Port yn ol yn y 60’au a Mel Charles yn dal yn ben bandit ar Y Traeth. Tynnwyd sylw’r wefan at ddarn amdano, gan Huw Pritchard (o glwb Bangor), yn y Bristol Evening Post. Mae’r erthygl yn rhoi ychydig o’i hanes ers chwarae ei gem olaf ar Y Traeth. Dywed y Post fod llawer dyn yn gwneud penderfyniad am ei fywyd pan yn 65 oed ond ychydig sy’n dod i ganlyniad tebyg i John Griffin. Mae John newydd gymhwyso fel hyfforddwr ‘Spinning’ cynllun yn defnyddio beic ymarfer yn y gampfa a all fod yn un o’r mathau caletaf o gadw’n heini. Mae John erbyn hyn yn byw yn Wrington, Gogledd Gwlad yr Haf ac mae’n un o hanner dwsin o hyfforddwyr yng Nghanolfan Hamdden yn Nhy Cadbury, Congresbury. Mae’r cyn arwerthwr tybaco (un nad oedd erioed yn smygu ei hun!) hefyd yn sôn wrth y Post am ei ddyddiau yn chwarae pêl-droed. Ers cychwyn chwarae mewn tîm oedolion yn 13 oed i’w dref enedigol Llandudno aeth ymlaen i chwarae i Fangor a wedyn Porthmadog. Yn Port chwraeodd gyda Mel Charles a ysbrydolodd tair pencampwriaeth Cynghrair Cymru yn olynnol yn y chwedegau hwyr. Un gem fythgofiadwy oedd y gem gyfeillgar yn erbyn Port Vale gyda Johnny yn marcio Stanely Matthews a Jackie Mudie yn fewnwr de. “Roedden nhw’n ddyddiau da, cyfnod pan enillais 12 cap amatur dros Gymru yn gefnwr chwith.”meddai John. “Fel llawer o chwaraewyr eraill dechreuais fel asgellwr cyn symud yn ôl i’r amddiffyn yn ddiweddarach.” Mae dau fab John erbyn hyn yn ei tridegau a’i wraig Linda hefyd yn cael cyfle i ymarfer yn y gampfa ac wedi cyrraedd lefel uchel o ffitrwydd. Many older supporters will fondly recall the days when John Griffin was left back for Porthmadog back in the 60’s and Mel Charles was still ruling the roost at the Traeth. Huw Pritchard (Bangor City) has drawn to the website’s attention an article which appeared in the Bristol Evening Post which brings us up to date with what has become of John Griffin since he last played for Port. The Post says, that many men make a decision about their life at the age of 65, but few reach the conclusion John Griffin did. He has just qualified as an instructor in Spinning, the gym-based exercise bike regime that can be one of the most demanding and rigorous fitness routines known. John, now lives in Wrington, North Somerset and is one of half a dozen instructors at Cadbury House Leisure Club in Congresbury. The former tobacco salesman (who did not smoke himself!) also recalls in the Post memories of his football days. Since he started playing adult football for his home town club, Llandudno, at the age of 13. He graduated to Bangor City and later moved on to Porthmadog, where the veteran Welsh international defender Mel Charles inspired three successive Welsh League championships in the late Sixties. On one unforgettable occasion, in a friendly against Port Vale, John found himself marking Stanley Matthews, who had Jackie Mudie at inside-right. "They were marvellous times, in which I won 12 Welsh amateur caps as a left-back," John recalls. "Like a lot of players, I started as a winger, and dropped back into defence as the years went on.” John’s two sons are now in their thirties and his wife Linda has joined him in keeping up a high level of fitness. |
