Port v Caerfyrddin / Carmarthen - 23/08/03

First of all this afternoon I would like to mention the recent Boardroom changes at the club. Mr. Bob Havelock recently decided to step down as club Chairman and he has been replaced by Phil Jones. Everyone at the ground today can see for themselves the amount of work Bob has done at the ground over the years. Not only keeping the pitch in great condition but, the endless number of jobs he has done around the stadium from building the perimeter wall to the hard standing surround to god knows what else. The fruits of his labour are there for all to see. Fortunately despite resigning as Chairman Bob will be remaining as a Director and will continue his work at Y Traeth. I would like to thank him for his unstinting support of me while I've been at the club and I look forward to working with new chairman Phil Jones in the months ahead. Two new members have joined the board in recent weeks and another Clive Hague has re-joined. It is good to see that individuals are willing to take the responsibility especially at the start of a new era in the clubs history.

It is good to see that both the Reserves and the Thirds have made good starts to the season in their respective Leagues. A number of new young players are coming through and making an impact in both teams. Porthmadog is increasingly seen as a club who will give young local players a chance and they want to come and play for the club. John and Steve have blooded a number of youngsters like Ceri Roberts who scored six goals last week, and it is good to see Emyr also playing well getting three. Barry Edwards is also developing players who were with the Under I 6's last season and giving some of them a chance in the Thirds, players like Tom Hughes and Iwan Price are showing plenty of potential. The work done by the managers and the coaches will be of real benefit to the club in the years to come.

It was nice to see a sizable crowd here on Tuesday night I am sure that you all appreciate the standard of football on show. Today's opponents Carmarthen have strengthened appreciably over the summer with players with English League experience as well as experience of playing in Europe. It will be interesting to see how we do today against one of the best sides in the League. Our aim is to establish ourselves in the League and to be as competitive as possible. I hope you enjoy this afternoon's game and please do support the lads.
