Aduniad Tîm 1956 Re-union of the 1956 team Saesneg / English Diwrnod o hiraethu am a fu oedd hi ddydd Sadwrn wrth i dîm amatur enwog y pumdegau ymgynnull unwaith eto. Daeth pawb at ei gilydd yn rhyfeddol ac yn amlwg wrth eu boddau i fod yn ôl ar Y Traeth ac yng nghwmni’i gilydd unwaith eto. Yn bresennol oedd Robin Williams, Ieuan Griffiths, Ishmael Jones, Glyn Jones (capt.), Arwel Jones, Richard Alwyn, Dei Phillips, Dafydd Lloyd, Will Griffiths and Moss Griffiths. Methodd RA Thomas ddod i’r achlysur ac yn ddigon eironig bu farw yr ieuengaf o’r tîm sef Elfyn Williams â fo yn dal yn fachgen ifanc. Wrth i’r tîm, a gurodd Peritus yn y ffeinal ac a gadwodd y gwpan y flwyddyn ganlynol, eistedd i lawr i fwyd bwffe a baratowyd gan Enid Owen a Rose Shingler, staff y cantîn, cyfle oedd hi i hel atgofion am y dyddiau da. Yn dilyn y bwyd, rhoddwyd anrheg i’r chwaraewyr i gofio’r achlysur gydag un arall o enwogion y clwb, y chwaraewr rhyngwladol Mel Charles, yn cyflwyno. Bu Mel, cyn chwaraewr Abertawe ac Arsena, yn chwarae i Borthmadog yng nghanol y chwedegau. Yn cael ei harddangos hefyd oedd yr hen Gwpan Amatur ond roedd ei chyflwr dipyn mwy bregus na chyflwr carfan ’56! Gareth Williams. English Saturday was a day of nostalgia at the Traeth when the famous amateur team of the fifties was back together for the day. It was a remarkable turn out of the winning team of 1956 with Robin Williams, Ieuan Griffiths, Ishmael Jones, Glyn Jones (capt.), Arwel Jones, Richard Alwyn, Dei Phillips, Dafydd Lloyd, Will Griffiths and Moss Griffiths all present. R. A. Thomas was unable to attend and ironically the youngest of the team of ’56 Elfyn Williams passed away at a young age. Reminiscing was the name of the game as the team which defeated Peritus in the final and then retained the trophy in 1957 sat down to a buffet lunch prepared by the Porthmadog canteen staff of Enid Owen and Rose Shingler. After lunch each player was presented with a memento of the occasion by one of Porthmadog’s most famous past players, Welsh international Mel Charles who represented the club in the mid-sixties. Will Griffiths (Bilws), one of the three brothers from Abersoch, travelled up from Buckinghamshire and another former favourite Terry Crossley, who married a Porthmadog girl, arrived from St Helens. On display also was the trophy –the Welsh Amateur Cup- which unlike the squad of ’56 was looking rather frail with age! Gareth Williams. Pictures |
