Viv WilliamsDerbyniwyd y newyddion am ymadawiad Viv Williams o’i swydd fel rheolwr CPD Porthmadog gyda theimlad o siom enfawr gan swyddogion a chefnogwyr. Talwyd teyrnged haeddiannol iddo gan Gadeirydd y clwb Phil Jones am y gwaith a wnaeth dros y clwb yn ystod cyfnod o naw mlynedd.
“Bu Viv yn was ffantastig i’r clwb; fo ydy un o’r rheolwyr mwyaf gonest y dowch ar ei draws. Ni fu gair croes rhyngom o gwbl; mae’n un o’r goreuon, gwr bonheddig go iawn.
“Os wnaiff barhau i fod yn rheolwr ac ymuno gyda chlwb arall, dwi’n dymuno’r gorau i ddyn y gwnaf bob amser ystyried yn ffrind.”
Dyma eiriau sydd hefyd yn fynegiant o deimladau ac ymateb cefnogwyr y clwb a chylch llawer ehangach tu mewn i bêl-droed yng Nghymru. Mae’n un o’r bobl hynny nad oes gan neb air drwg i ddweud amdano.
Phil JonesDisgrifia Viv ei ran yn cadw statws Port yn yr Uwch Gynghrair yn “un o uchafbwyntiau fy ngyrfa.” Ond ei wir lwyddiant gyda Port oedd cymryd clwb cyffredin iawn o ganol y Cymru Alliance a gyda Osian Roberts eu troi yn glwb a redodd i ffwrdd â’r gynghrair honno a wedyn ailsefydlu’r clwb yn UGC yn ddiogel yng nghanol y tabl a hynny’n rhydd o drafferthion yn y gwaelodion. Rwan mae wedi achub y clwb am yr ail dro a’u gadael yn dal efo cnewyllyn o chwaraewyr da fel y gall rhywun arall ddod i symud y clwb ymlaen.
Roedd yn chwaraewr o safon ei hun a derbyniodd deyrnged gan Mike Smith (Citizen’s Choice). “Y chwaraewr “lleol” gorau a welais yn gwisgo crys Bangor. Y rhediadau cryf, y saethu pwerus a’r gorffen clinigol a wnaeth Viv yn arwr ar Ffordd Ffarar.”
Roedd bob amser yn feddyliwr doeth am y gêm yng Nghymru a defnyddiodd ei golofn yn y rhaglen i fynegi ei farn. Credai mewn pêl-droed creadigol a gwyddai mor bwysig oedd cael wyneb da i’r caeau er mwyn datblygiad y gêm yn UGC. Credai y dylai caeau o safon fod yn un o’r meini prawf wrth i’r Gynghrair geisio diwygio eu hun. Dylai ei eiriau doeth dderbyn gwrandawiad:
“Gwella caeau ydy’r weithred unigol mwyaf pendant y gellir ei wneud i godi safon y gynghrair. Gwnaed buddsoddiad mewn cyfleusterau o gwmpas y caeau ond mae’r gynghrair a’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed wedi bod yn amharod i fuddsoddi yn y caeau chwarae. Mae hyn yn anffodus ac mae angen edrych arno eto.” Ni fydd yn hawdd i unrhyw un ddilyn Viv.

Thanks Viv!

Viv WilliamsIt is with a keenly felt disappointment that the news of the departure of Viv Williams, from his post as manager of Porthmadog FC, has been received by officials and supporters. Chairman Phil Jones has paid Viv a fitting tribute for the remarkable job he has done at Port over the past nine years.
“Viv has been a fantastic servant of the club: he is one of the most honest managers you will ever find. We’ve never had a cross word: he is one of the nicest people you could ever meet, a true gentleman.
“If he continues in management at another club, I wish all the best to a man I will always consider a friend.”
These are words which echo the feelings and responses of all Porthmadog supporters and of a wide circle of people within the game in Wales. He is one of those people for whom no one has a bad word.
Phil JonesViv describes his part in the retention of WPL status as “one of the highlights of my career.” His greatest achievement though was taking, what was at the time a mediocre club halfway down the Cymru Alliance table and, together with Osian Roberts, creating a team which walked away with the Cymru Alliance re-establishing the club, free from relegation worries, in a safe mid-table position in the WPL. Now he has saved the club again and left it with still a strong nucleus of players for someone else to take the club forward.
No mean player himself, Viv received this tribute from Mike Smith (Citizen’s Choice). “The finest "local" player I have seen wear a Bangor shirt. The swashbuckling runs, the powerful shooting and clinical finishing made Viv a legend at Farrar Road.”
Always an intelligent thinker about the game in Wales, he used his match programme column to good effect. He believed in the passing game and realised how important good pitches are to the development of the WPL. He believed that the playing surface should be a major criterion as the league sets about reforming itself. His wise words should be listened to:
“Improving pitches is the single biggest thing that could be done to improve the league. Investment has been made in new off field facilities but the league and the FAW have been reluctant to invest in playing surfaces. This is unfortunate and should be looked at again.”
Viv will indeed be a hard act to follow.
