Lido yn y 3ydd safle / Lido into 3rd place

Afan LidoYn dilyn eu buddugoliaeth o 1-0 neithiwr yn erbyn y tîm sydd yn rownd gynderfynol Cwpan Cymru, YMCA Casnewydd, mae Afan Lido wedi symud i fyny i'r 3ydd yng Nghynghrair y De. Ar hyn o bryd, Ton Pentre a Goytre sydd yn y ddau safle uchaf - ond dim ond pwynt sydd rhwng Lido a Goytre yn yr 2il safle. Afan Lido ydy'r unig dîm tua brig y gynghrair sydd â maes sy'n cyrraedd safonau yr Uwchgynghrair; os na fyddant yn gorffen yn y 2 safle uchaf, dim ond un tîm fydd yn gorfod mynd i lawr o'r Uwchgynghrair.

Following their 1-0 win last night against Welsh Cup semi-finalists Newport YMCA, Afan Lido have moved up to 3rd place in the Welsh League South. At the present moment, Ton Pentre and Goytre occupy the top two places - only a point separates Lido and Goytre in 2nd place. Afan Lido ar the only team in the upper reaches of their league whose ground is up to Welsh Premier standards; if they don't finish in the top 2 places then only one team will be relegated from the Welsh Premier.

Canlyniad da i’r Academi Dan16 / Good result for Academy Under 16

Llongyfarchiadau i dîm Dan 16 Academi Port ar eu buddugoliaeth mewn gêm dda ar Y Traeth ddydd Sul (2 Mawrth ). Port yn curo Academi Bangor o 3-2 ac yn dangos safon dda iawn o bêl-droed. Y sgorwyr i Port oedd Iwan Lane, Shaun Jones, a Richard Jones. Hyfforddwyd y tîm gan gyfarwyddwr yr Academi, Haydn Jones. Omen at ddydd Sadwrn nesaf? Gobeithio!
Diolch i Neil Osmond am y wybodaeth.

Bangor yn gwrthod newid / Bangor refuse change

Neville Powell - Bangor CityMae swyddogion clwb Bangor wedi gwrthod symud amser cychwyn y gêm ddydd Sadwrn er mwyn osgoi cyd daro â’r gêm rygbi lle bydd Cymru yn mynd am y Goron Driphlyg yn erbyn Iwerddon. A hyn er i’r BBC, sydd yn ffilmio ar Y Traeth ar gyfer ‘Y Clwb Pêl-droed’, a swyddogion y gynghrair gytuno i’r newid. Er mai ond cais i symud y gêm 45 munud yn hwyrach oedd hwn, nid yw Bangor yn barod i gydweithredu.
Siomedig ydy gweld diffyg cefnogaeth gan glwb arall yn yr Uwch-gynghrair - yn arbennig o ystyried y bydd hyn yn siwr o effeithio ar y dorf dydd Sadwrn.

Bangor officials have refused to move forward the kick-off time of Saturday’s match, intended to avoid a direct clash with the Triple Crown decider with Ireland. Despite getting approval from the BBC, who are filming the game against Bangor for ‘Clwb Pêl-droed’, and also the League’s approval, Bangor have refused to co-operate, despite the fact that it was only a request for a change of 45 minutes.
It is disappointing to see the lack of support from a fellow Welsh Premier club - especially since this is unlikely to effect the attendance on Saturday.

Clwb y Traeth yn ymuno â chynllun ‘Gwarchod Tafarnau’ / Porthmadog Clubhouse joins Pubwatch

Mae Clwb newydd a phoblogaidd Y Traeth wedi ymuno â chynllun ‘Gwarchod Tafarnau’. Bydd unrhyw unigolyn sydd yn camfihafio yn Nghlwb y Traeth yn debygol o gael ei wahardd o bob tafarn yn y dre a hefyd o dafarnau yn y pentrefi o gwmpas. Ni fydd caniatâd i unrhyw un sydd wedi’i wahardd o dafarnau yn y dre ddod i Glwb y Traeth. Rhybudd amserol felly!

Port’s popular new clubhouse at the Traeth has joined the local Pubwatch scheme. Any individuals caught misbehaving at the Clubhouse could well be ‘Pubwatched’ in every public house in the town and also in the surrounding villages. Anyone who has been banned from pubs in the town will not be allowed to enter the Clubhouse at the Traeth. A timely warning!

Cais i newid amser gêm Bangor / Request to change time of kick off for Bangor game.

BangorMae swyddogion CPD Porthmadog wedi gofyn i glwb Bangor newid amser cychwyn y gêm ar Y Traeth rhwng y ddau glwb ddydd Sadwrn. Bwriad hyn yw osgoi cyd daro â’r gêm am y Goron Driphlyg rhwng Iwerddon a Chymru yng nghystadleuaeth y 6 Gwlad. Bydd y rygbi yn cychwyn am 1.15 pm ac mae Port wedi gwneud cais i gychwyn y gêm yn erbyn Bangor am 3.15 pm neu 3.30 pm. Bydd y BBC yn ffilmio gêm Port v Bangor ar gyfer y Clwb Pêl Droed ac maent eisoes wedi cytuno i newid. Ar hyn o bryd mae Port yn aros am ymateb swyddogion Bangor. Pan fyddwn wedi derbyn y wybodaeth derfynol bydd yn ymddangos ar y wefan.

Porthmadog officials have asked Bangor City for a change in the time of kick off for next Saturday’s derby match. This is to avoid a direct clash with the Triple Crown decider between Ireland and Wales in the 6 Nations tournament. That match kicks-off at 1.15 pm and Port have requested that the match against Bangor be put back to 3.15 pm or 3.30 pm. The BBC who are filming the game for “Clwb Pêl Droed” have agreed to the request but a reply from Bangor officials is awaited. When we are informed of the definite time of kick off it will appear on the website.

Lido Afan yn fygythiad / Afan Lido a threat

Afan LidoFel awgrymwyd ar y wefan hon ynghynt yn yr wythnos, nid yw’r frwydr am ddyrchafiad o Gynghrair Cymru (y de) drosodd eto. Ton Pentre sydd erbyn hyn ar y brig gyda Goytre yn yr ail safle. Ond sylwch ar Lido Afan sydd yn sicrhau canlyniadau arbennig o dda yn ddiweddar yn ennill pump o’u chwe gêm ddiwethaf gyda’r llall yn gyfartal. Er eu bod 10 pwynt tu ôl i Goytre, mae ganddynt ddwy gêm mewn llaw. Mae’n bosib iawn, wrth ystyried eu chwarae presennol, iddynt ennill y ddwy gêm yma a wedyn byddant ond 4 pwynt tu ôl i Goytre. Yn fwy pwysig, dim ond deunaw o gêmau allan o’r rhaglen o 34 o gêmau mae Lido wedi chwarae. Digon o gyfle felly i lawer ddigwydd eto. Aiff y tymor yn y de ymlaen ymhell i fis Mai. Mae’n bosib felly i glybiau, sydd yn cymryd yn ganiataol mai ond un tîm sydd yn mynd i lawr, fod yn siomedig. Doeth ydy gwrando ar Viv a ddywedodd “Fedrwn ni ddim dibynnu ar hynny!”

As was suggested on this website earlier in the week, the promotion battle in the Welsh League (south) is not over yet. Ton Pentre have taken over at the top of the table with Goytre in second place. Afan Lido, however, are in excellent recent form with five wins and a draw from their last six games. They are 10 points behind Goytre but have two games in hand. Should they win those games, and their present form suggests they could well do so, then the deficit would be down to four points. More important still, Lido have only played 18 games of a 34 game season, so much can happen yet. The season in the south will go on well into May. Clubs who think it is certain that only one club will be relegated could be courting disaster. Viv is wise to say “We can’t depend on that!”

Y pwysau’n cynyddu ar Gaersws / The pressure mounts at Caersws

CaerswsYn dilyn y cweir o 4 gôl i 2 yn erbyn Port dydd Sadwrn diwethaf, a cholled arall nos Fawrth yn erbyn Hwlffordd, mae Caersws wedi penderfynu diswyddo eu rheolwr Mike Barton. Mae’r tîm o’r canolbarth wedi colli 5 o’u 6 gêm ddiwethaf a byddai buddugoliaeth i Port yn erbyn Airbus Brychdyn dydd Sadwrn nesaf yn golygu y byddem yn cyfnewid llefydd efo Caersws yn y gynghrair. Yn eironig, cyn arwr y Traeth, Dave Taylor, fydd yn cymryd yr awenau ar y ‘Rec’ ar gyfer 9 gêm olaf y tymor.

Following their 4-2 hammering at the hands of Port last Saturday, and a further defeat against Haverfordwest on Tuesday, Caersws have decided to part company with manager Mike Barton. The team from mid-Wales have lost 5 of their last 6 games and a win for Port against Airbus Broughton on Saturday would mean that we leap-frog Caersws in the league. Ironically, the man who will manage Caersws for their final 9 games of the season will be former Traeth favourite Dave Taylor.

Rhagolwg: Port v Airbus Brychdyn / Preview: Port v Airbus Broughton

AirbusYn y 12fed safle, mae gan Airbus 10 pwynt yn fwy na Phorthmadog. Roedd ganddynt obaith da i gael mynediad i Gwpan y BBC ond erbyn hyn mae’r cyfle hwnnw wedi diflannu. Maent wedi ennill eu dwy gêm ddiwethaf, yn Llangefni ac adref i Gastell Nedd. Ennill tair a cholli tair bu’r hanes dros y chwe gêm ddiwethaf. Oddi cartref, maent wedi ennill dwy o’u 12eg gêm gynghrair yn ystod y tymor. Bu’r gemau Uwch Gynghrair Cymru rhwng y ddau glwb dros y blynyddoedd yn rhai agos ar y cyfan. Mae Port wedi ennill ddwywaith, Airbus un a dwy gêm yn gyfartal. Airbus enillodd y gêm flaenorol y tymor hwn ar Y Maes Awyr o 2-0. Dylanwadwyd ar y canlyniad hwnnw gan benderfyniad ofnadwy gan aseswr, a wrthododd gôl hollol deg, pan fu’n rhaid iddo gymryd at gyfrifoldebau’r llumanwr.
Bydd Gareth Caughter yn dychwelyd i’r Traeth am y tro cyntaf ers iddo adael Port ym Medi 2007. Chwaraeodd 101(+19) o weithiau i Port yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Dau a symudodd i’r cyfeiriad arall ydy hyfforddwr Port, Alan Bickerstaff, a’r asgellwr David Hughes.
Cawn wybod pa mor bwysig oedd y fuddugoliaeth a’r perfformiad da yn Caersws erbyn 4.30 pm ddydd Sadwrn gan fod angen adeiladu ar y canlyniad hwnnw. Nid ambell fuddugoliaeth yma ac acw sydd angen rwan ac mae’n hen bryd dod â’r rhediad trychinebus ar Y Traeth i ben. Dyma’r amser delfrydol i Carl Owen fwrw ’mlaen i sgorio mwy o’r math o goliau a welsom yng Nghaersws –ac i Paul Roberts hefyd ymuno gyda Carl! Gobeithio y bydd y dyfarnwr yn dal y pwysau ddydd Sadwrn a ni fydd angen gofyn am gymorth aseswr!

Airbus are in 12th place in the league and have ten points more than Porthmadog. They could have been in a position to win a Premier Cup place but that has now been taken away from them. They have won their last two league games with wins at Llangefni and at home to Neath. They have won three and lost three of their last six games. On the road, they have won two of their 12 league games. Previous WPL encounters between the two clubs have been close games with Port winning twice, Airbus once with two ending all square. The fixture at the Airfield ended in a 2-0 win for Airbus which was due in no small measure to a terrible decision by the assessor who was pressed into emergency action as a linesman and disallowed a perfectly good goal.
Saturday’s game brings Gareth Caughter back to the Traeth for the first time since he switched clubs in September 2007 after making 101 (+ 19) WPL appearances for Port. Port coach Alan Bickerstaff and winger David Hughes have of course moved in the opposite direction.
How important was Saturday’s win at Caersws? We shall see this coming Saturday, for they must now build on that good result and excellent performance. Isolated wins are not enough, and now is the time to lay the Traeth bogy which has bewitched them all season. There could be no better time for Carl Owen to continue his recaptured goal touch and for Paul Roberts to join him! Let’s hope the ref lasts the pace and the assessor will not be pressed into action!

Yr Ail Dîm ym mis Chwefror / Reserves Round up for February

Er fod y mis wedi gorffen gyda’r Ail Dîm yn mynd allan o Gwpan Gwynedd John Smith a hynny o 1-0 ar Y Traeth yn erbyn Bodedern, bu Chwefror yn fis da iawn yn y gynghrair i’r clwb. Cafwyd tair buddugoliaeth yn ystod y mis i fynd â’u rhediad i bump buddugoliaeth yn olynol gan godi i’r ail safle yn y tabl. Dechreuodd y mis gyda buddugoliaeth gyfforddus o 4-1, yn erbyn clwb a oedd yn y pedwar uchaf, i ffwrdd yn Y Gaerwen. Dilynwyd hon gyda buddugoliaeth agos, mewn brwydr galed yn erbyn y cymdogion o Lanystumdwy. Matthew Hughes ar ôl 65’ sgoriodd y gôl a oedd yn gwahanu’r, ddau ar y diwedd. Sicrhawyd y drydedd fuddugoliaeth o 5-2 adref ar Y Traeth yn erbyn Bethel. Daeth goliau Port i gyd yn yr ail hanner ar ôl i Watkinson roi Bethel ar y blaen yn yr hanner cyntaf. Matthew Hughes gafodd y gyntaf ar ôl 52’ gyda gôl gan Ceri Roberts yn dilyn naw munud yn ddiweddarach. Sgoriodd Mark Bridge ddwywaith ar ôl 64’ ac 84’ gyda gôl Iwan Tomos yn dod rhyngddynt ar ôl 75’. Mae Matthew Hughes y dal i arwain rhestr sgorwyr y gynghrair gyda 21 o goliau cynghrair a 4 gôl gwpan.

Though they ended the month with a disappointing exit from the John Smith Gwynedd Cup, by a single goal against Bodedern at the Traeth, the reserves enjoyed a profitable month in the league. They recorded three league wins during the month which made it a run of five straight wins to take them up to 2nd spot in the table. The month began with a comfortable 4-1 win, against top four opposition, away at Gaerwen. This was followed by a hard fought away victory win in a close contest against local rivals Llanystumdwy by 1-0 with a goal by Matthew Hughes in the 65’ separating the two sides. The third league win of the month was secured against Bethel, this time at the Traeth by a 5-2 margin. All the Port goals came in the second half after Watkinson had put Bethel ahead in the first period. Matthew Hughes got the first after 52’ followed by Ceri Roberts’ on 61’. Mark Bridge scored twice in the 64’ and 84’ while Iwan Tomos got his goal in between the Bridge goals on 75’. Matthew Hughes remains the league’s leading scorer with 21 league goals and 4 in cup games.

Ffarwelio â’r Cwpan Cenedlaethol / End of Premier Cup

Premier CupAr ôl cyfnod o unarddeg mlynedd, daeth y diwedd i’r Cwpan Cenedlaethol. Cadarnhaodd y BBC ei bod yn gorffen noddi’r gystadleuaeth ar ddiwedd y tymor presennol. Heb amheuaeth, cafodd nifer o glybiau Uwch Gynghrair Cymru elw ariannol sylweddol o’r £360,000 blynyddol yn y gronfa wobrau.
Dywedodd y BBC wrth y ‘Wales on Sunday’: “Sefydlwyd y gystadleuaeth i ddod â holl glybiau Cymru, pa bynnag gynghrair yr oeddent yn chwarae fel arfer, at ei gilydd.
“Ond yn ddiweddar, roedd y math o flaenoriaeth a roddwyd gan rai o’r clybiau i’r gystadleuaeth wedi lleihau a thrwy hyn wedi arwain at ddirywiad yn y gystadleuaeth.
“O ganlyniad, penderfynodd y BBC beidio noddi a dangos y gystadleuaeth o ddiwedd y tymor presennol.”

The FAW Premier Cup is finished after 11 years. The BBC has confirmed its withdrawal from sponsorship of the lucrative competition, which has seen much-needed income injected into the league from an annual prize fund of £360,000.
A BBC spokesman told Wales on Sunday: "The tournament was established to bring together all Welsh football clubs, irrespective of which league they played their football from week to week.
"However, in recent seasons in particular, the priority afforded the tournament by some participants has diluted the quality of the competition.
“As a result, BBC Wales has decided to discontinue coverage of the tournament after the current season."

Rhagolwg: / Preview: Caersws v Port

CaerswsRoedd Viv Williams yn ei chael yn amhosib i guddio’r siom yn dilyn y perfformiad ddydd Sadwrn yn erbyn Aberystwyth,
“Roedd o’n warthus. Er fod yna welliant yn yr ail hanner, roedd yn rhy hwyr. Cafwyd dechrau da ond wedyn gwneud camgymeriad a rhoi’r gôl gyntaf i Aber ac ar ôl hynny chwarae ‘kamikaze’ a gawsom. Rhaid i’r hogiau ymateb i’r hyn a ddigwyddodd a chofio ein bod yn y frwydr hon gyda’n gilydd. Mae’r hogiau’n ddigon da i’n cael ni allan o drafferth. Ond rŵan rhaid iddynt ddechrau credu eu bod yn medru gwneud hyn.”
Roedd y diffyg hyder mor amlwg ddydd Sadwrn –sefyllfa a ddatblygodd dros y dair gêm ddiwethaf. Yr unig ffordd i adfer yr hyder sydd ei angen at y brwydrau i ddod ydy drwy ennill. Un peth a oedd yn nodweddiadol o’r gemau caled yn erbyn timau fel Bangor, Castell Nedd a Hwlffordd oedd y gallu i gystadlu a rhaid dangos yr ysbryd hwn eto ddydd Sadwrn.
Pe byddai Caersws yn ennill ddydd Sadwrn, byddant yn mynd naw pwynt ar y blaen i Port. Gwan fu perfformiadau’r ddau dîm yn ddiweddar gyda Chaersws yn sicrhau tri phwynt o’r chwe gêm ddiwethaf a Port dau o’r un nifer o gemau. Llwyddodd Caersws i greu sioc wrth guro Bangor a dyna’r math o sioc rhaid i Port hefyd greu yn y gêmau anodd sydd i ddod. Y tro diwethaf i’r ddau dîm gyfarfod yn Caersws, sicrhaodd Port fuddugoliaeth o un gôl i ddim.

Viv Williams could not conceal his disappointment at last Saturday’s performance against Aberystwyth,
“It was shocking. We improved in the second half but it was too late by then. We made a good start but then handed them the lead from our own mistake and after that it was kamikaze stuff. The lads must respond to what happened, we’re in this together and these lads are capable of getting us out of trouble. But they’ve got to start believing in themselves right now.”
The team on Saturday was lacking in confidence, a situation which has developed over the last three games. There is only one way of restoring confidence for the battles ahead and that is by winning. One thing which has typified the team even when losing tough games against Bangor, Neath and Haverfordwest is that they have always competed and they need to show that kind of spirit again on Saturday.
Caersws will go 9 points ahead of Port if they win on Saturday so now is make or break time. Both sides have struggled recently; Caersws have picked up 3 points from the last six games whereas Port have managed two in the same number of games. Caersws did however pull off a shock win over Bangor City and that is the kind of thing Port will need to do from now on –pull off a few shocks. Last time the two sides met at the Recreation Ground, Port managed a narrow 1-0 win.

Newid i’r drefn drosglwyddo / Transfer Changes

Richard SmartMae’n ymddangos fod y Gymdeithas Bêl Droed wedi newid ei pholisi ynglŷn â chwaraewyr sy’n newid clybiau tu allan i’r ffenest drosglwyddo ers ynghynt yn y tymor pan gollodd Bangor Mark Smythe i glwb Leigh RMI. Mae’n debygol na fydd trosglwyddiadau Richard Smart o Borthmadog i Leek a Farai Jackson o Langefni i Warrington yn derbyn sêl bendith rhyngwladol. Mae’r dehongliad gan FIFA, o’r Drefn Drosglwyddo, yn caniatáu gwrthod symudiadau allan o Gymru i gynghreiriau sydd heb ffenest drosglwyddo eu hunain. Bydd hyn yn sicrhau na fydd clybiau UGC yn cael eu gwanhau ar adeg pan na fyddant yn cael ychwanegu at eu carfanau. Mae’r Gymdeithas yn gwneud y penderfyniad felly am nad oes gan y Gynghrair Unibond ffenest drosglwyddo. Rhaid aros i weld beth fydd ymateb y chwaraewyr i hyn ond unwaith y bydd pawb yn deall y sefyllfa newydd bydd yn cau’r drws ar annhegwch amlwg sydd wedi effeithio clybiau’r Uwch Gynghrair ers i’r ffenest drosglwyddo gael ei chyflwyno ar ddechrau 2007-08.
Bydd y newid hwn yn plesio Neville Powell rheolwr Bangor a ddywedodd ar ôl iddo golli chwaraewyr i glybiau is yn Lloegr, “Dwi wedi siarad gyda John Deakin ac mae’r Gymdeithas yn ystyried gwrthod sêl bendith rhyngwladol i chwaraewyr, fel na allant symud o Gymru. Os digwydd hynny bydd yn beth da i bawb. Roedd dim y gallem wneud i atal colli Mark Smyth i Leigh RMI.”

It appears that, since Bangor City lost Mark Smythe to Leigh RMI earlier in the season, the FAW have had a change of policy on the transfer of players outside the Transfer Window. It now seems likely that, in the case of the proposed transfers of Porthmadog player, Richard Smart to Leek Town and Llangefni goalkeeper Farai Jackson to Warrington Town, the FAW will refuse international clearance. A FIFA interpretation of the Transfer Regulations allows the refusal of sanctioning players out of Wales to Leagues who do not have the Window, which would ensure that Principality Welsh Premier sides are not left vulnerable, as they can not add to their own squads since the closure of the Window on January 31st.
The fact that the Unibond League does not have a transfer window appears to be the grounds on which the FAW decision is based. It remains to be seen what the response of the players caught up in this will be, but long term once all players understand the new situation it will close a glaring loophole affecting WPL clubs since the introduction of the transfer window at the beginning of 2007-08 season.
This new departure will also please Bangor manager Neville Powell who remarked after he found himself losing players to non-league clubs in England, "I spoke to John Deakin about it and the league are considering refusing to accept the international clearance of players so they can't go out of Wales. If that happens it will be a good thing for all of us. We lost our midfielder Mark Smyth to Leigh RMI, and there was nothing we could do to stop it.”

Diweddaraf am ddyrchafiad i’r Uwch Gynghrair / An update on promotion to the Welsh Premier

Afan LidoMae’r sefyllfa ynglyn â dyrchafiad o Gynghrair Cymru (y De) rhywfaint yn gliriach. Tynnodd Dinas Powys, sydd yn y 3ydd safle, eu cais am ddyrchafiad yn ôl. Dim ond drwy rannu cae gyda chlwb arall gall Ento Aberaman, sydd yn 4ydd, sicrhau dyrchafiad. Deallwn mai bychan yw’r siawns i hynny ddigwydd. Goytre a Thon Pentre sydd yn y ddau safle uchaf ond heb wneud cais am ddyrchafiad. Mae gan Afan Lido a Chwmbrân gaeau sydd y cyrraedd y safon. Mae Afan Lido 9 pwynt tu ôl i Don Pentre yn yr ail safle ond cofier fod hanner y rhaglen o 34 o gemau yn dal yn weddill. Unfed ar ddeg ydy Cwmbrân ac yn edrych allan ohoni.

CwmbranThe situation regarding the promotion of clubs from the Welsh League (south) is a little clearer. Dinas Powys, the 3rd placed club, have now withdrawn their application for promotion to the WPL. Ento Aberaman, the 4th placed club, can only qualify through ground sharing and we understand that the prospects of that happening seem bleak. Goytre and Ton Pentre still occupy the top two positions and have not applied for promotion. The other applicants Afan Lido and Cwmbran have grounds up to the necessary standards. Lido are 9 points behind Ton Pentre but have half their programme of 34 games still left. Cwmbran are well behind in 11th spot.
Viv Williams commented “We have all read reports that only one club may be relegated as no club will meet the criteria and finish in the top two in south Wales. We really can’t depend on that and the decision will not be ratified until the AGM in the summer. We really don’t want to do it that way.”

Safon Caeau'r Uwch Gynghrair / The standard of Welsh Premier pitches

Viv WilliamsTynnodd Viv Williams sylw at gyflwr caeau yn ei nodiadau diweddar yn y rhaglen gan ddweud “Mae UGC ac UEFA yn gwneud mor a mynydd o gael y nifer o cywir o seddi, maint yr ystafelloedd mewn metrau sgwâr a chryfder y llifoleuadau – byddai’n llawer gwell iddyn nhw wella draeniad y caeau. Gwnaeth Porthmadog gais am arian grant ar gyfer hyn ychydig o flynyddoedd yn ôl ond nid oedd UGC na’r FAW yn cefnogi hynny.
“Yn bersonol, dwi’n meddwl mai cyflwr y caeau ddylai fod y prif faen prawf i glybiau. Mae’n anodd iawn chwarae pêl-droed ar rai caeau yn y gynghrair. Ar ôl ein gêm ddiweddar yn TNS roedd y chwaraewyr yn cytuno y byddai’n well ganddyn nhw chwarae ar arwyneb artiffisial nac ar rai o’r caeau gwael sy’n rhaid iddyn nhw chwarae arnynt. Mae TNS wedi buddsoddi yn y cae ‘plastig’ ond mae’n wych er mwyn chwarae pêl-droed da. Roedd y cae yn wych yn y gêm i lawr yn Hwlffordd”
Mae’n mynd ymlaen i holi ynglyn a TNS a Llanelli “Ai’r rheswm dros eu llwyddiant yw eu bod yn chwarae ar gaeau da yn rheolaidd?”

Viv Williams has highlighted the quality of pitches in his recent programme notes noting that “The WPL and UEFA make a big play of the number of individual seats, the square meterage of the changing rooms and the strength of the floodlights -they would be much better off improving the drainage of pitches. This was something Porthmadog sought grant aid for a few years ago but were not supported by the WPL and the FAW.
“Personally I think major criteria for clubs should be the quality of pitches. There are some pitches in the league where playing good football is very hard. After our recent match at TNS the players agreed that they would prefer to play on an artificial surface than on some of the poor pitches they have to play on. TNS have invested in this so called ‘plastic’ pitch but it is ideal for playing good football. We also played on an excellent pitch at Haverfordwest.”
He goes on to ask about TNS and Llanelli “Is part of the reason they are successful that they play on decent surfaces regularly.”

Sawl clwb sy’n dod i fyny? How many clubs will be promoted?

Ar hyn o bryd, Goytre sydd ar y blaen gyda 43 pwynt gyda Ton Pentre yn ail ar 40 o bwyntiau. Nid yw’r un o’r ddau wedi gwneud cais am ddyrchafiad. Ond roedd Dinas Powys (37pt) yn y trydydd safle ac Ento Aberaman sydd yn 6ed ymysg yr ymgeiswyr gwreiddiol. Nid oes gan y ddau glwb arall a wnaeth gais, Cwmbrân ac Afan Lido, fawr o obaith o orffen yn un o’r ddau safle uchaf. Mae’n bwysig nodi fod y clybiau yma ond hanner ffordd drwy eu rhaglen gêmau am y tymor felly fe all llawer ddigwydd cyn ddiwedd y tymor. Adroddwyd ynghynt yn y tymor fod cae Dinas Powys yn annhebygol o gyrraedd y safon ond fod ganddynt gynlluniau wrth gefn i ddefnyddio Parc Jenner y Barri. Gyda phethau i fyny yn yr awyr braidd, doeth fyddai anghofio am edrych i osgoi’r gwymp am fod neb o’r de am ddod i fyny. Gwell edrych ar y broblem yr un fath â mae Viv, sydd yn amlwg ddim yn edrych am gymorth o’r tu allan. “Mae’r cyfan yn ein dwylo ni. Fedrwn ni ddim dibynnu ar eraill rŵan: mae’n bwysig iawn i ennill pwyntiau ond mae gennym gemau anodd yn ein haros. Rhaid i ni fod yn gwbl ddidostur pan ddaw’r cyfleoedd.”

It has been suggested that there will only be one team dropping out of the Welsh premier this season as none of the leading contenders for the Welsh League crown want promotion. At the moment, Goytre United head the table with 43 points followed by Ton Pentre with 40 points. Neither of these clubs have applied for promotion. However Dinas Powys (37pts) who lie in third spot and Ento Aberaman 6th were amongst the original applicants. The other applicants Afan Lido and Cwmbran Town appear to be well out of the running for the top two places. It is important to note that clubs in the Welsh League (South) have only completed half of their 34 games and so much can happen yet. It was reported earlier that Dinas Powys are unlikely to meet the ground criteria at their Murch Field home, but their contingency plans include a proposal to share at Barry's Jenner Park. With things very much up in the air, no one should see the ‘one club demoted’ escape route as one to be taken to seriously at this stage. It is better to proceed as Viv has suggested -for he is clearly not expecting any outside help. “It’s all in our hands. We cannot rely on others now; it’s very important to pick up points but we’ve got a very tough run-in. We must be ruthless when the chances come.”

Rhagolwg: Aberystwyth / Preview: Aberystwyth

AberystwythMae pob gêm bellach yn holl bwysig er mwyn i Port fedru cau y bwlch rhyngddynt a’r timau sydd yn y safleoedd agosaf atynt. Fel bob amser, bydd Aberystwyth yn siwr o osod prawf anodd i Port er iddynt ond sicrhau dwy fuddugoliaeth oddi cartref y tymor hwn. Mae Port, ar y llaw arall, yn dal i aros y fuddugoliaeth gynghrair gyntaf adref ar Y Traeth. Erbyn hyn, collodd Aber wasanaeth yr ymosodwr Jamie Reed a sgoriodd ddwy waith yn erbyn Port ar Goedlan y Parc. Daeth ei gyfnod ar fenthyg i ben yn sydyn. Er hynny, mae ganddynt garfan o chwaraewyr ifanc, talentog fel Luke Sherbon a Geraint Passmore a chwaraewyr profiadol fel Stuart Roberts ac Aneurin Thomas. Roedd y gêm rhwng y ddau glwb ar Goedlan y Parc yn un agos ac roedd Port yn anlwcus i fethu allan ar bwynt o leiaf. Os feddyliwch yn ôl i’r gêm ar Y Traeth rhwng y ddau glwb y tymor diwethaf, fe gofiwch i Lee Webber a Gareth Caughter dderbyn cardiau coch gan y dyfarnwr, Maldwyn Williams, a does fawr o syndod fod y gêm wedi’i cholli o 4-1. Drwy’r tymor eleni eto, cawsom anlwc gyda phenderfyniadau dyfarnwyr ac yn wir dylem fod wedi cael cic o’r smotyn nos Wener diwethaf. Gobeithio cawn ychydig o’r dogn o lwc sy’n ddyledus i ni ddydd Sadwrn!

Each game is now vital for Porthmadog to close the gap between them and the teams directly above them in the table. Aberystwyth will provide a stern test despite their poor away form only winning twice on the road this season. Port, on the other hand, have struggled badly at home and are still looking for that elusive first league win at the Traeth. Aber have lost the services of Jamie Reed who scored twice against Port in the game at Park Avenue. His loan period came to an abrupt end. They have, however, a strong established nucleus of talented players such as Luke Sherbon, Geraint Passmore and Stuart Roberts as well as long serving defender Aneurin Thomas. The game at Park Avenue was a close one with Port unlucky to have missed out on at least a point. If you cast your mind to last year’s fixture between the two sides at the Traeth, you will recall a disaster day for Port with both Lee Webber and Gareth Caughter receiving red cards from referee Maldwyn Williams. It was not surprising that Port went down by 4-1. We have had our share of bad refereeing decisions this season to last us a decade at least, and we had another one at Cefn last Friday with a strong case for a penalty being turned down. Let’s hope that lady luck will shine down on Saturday.

Dyddiad newydd i gêm Airbus / New date for Airbus game

AirbusBydd y gêm rhwng Airbus Brychdyn a Phorthmadog yn cael ei chwarae ar Y Traeth ar ddydd Sadwrn Mawrth 1af. Bu’n rhaid gohirio’r gêm wreiddiol rhwng y ddau glwb, a oedd i’w chwarae ym mis Ionawr, oherwydd cyflwr gwlyb y cae.

The league match against Airbus Broughton at the Traeth has been rescheduled for Saturday March 1st – a date which had been reserved for Welsh Cup matches. The game was originally to have been played in January but was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
