Gwaharddiad Ged
Bu’n bythefnos ddigon anodd wrth geisio dod o hyd i golwr i gymryd lle Ged McGuigan sydd wedi ei wahardd. Siaradais â sawl golwr ond, am amrywiol resymau, nid oeddent yn barod i arwyddo. Felly golwr yr ail dîm Dylan Edwards a ddaeth i’r adwy a chwarae ei gêm gyntaf yng Nghynghrair Cymru. Er ei ddiffyg profiad, perfformiodd yn dda chwarae teg iddo. Awgrymodd rhai y dylai’r clwb gael golwr arall ar y fainc ond anymarferol ydy y fath awgrym. Sefydlodd Ged ei hun yn ddewis cyntaf a byddai unrhyw eilydd yn gyrru ei hun yn wirion wrth eistedd ar y fainc am bron i ddau dymor cyfan i aros ei gyfle. Mae unrhyw chwaraewr gwerth ei halen yn awyddus i chwarae yn rheolaidd a fedr neb weld bai arno am hynny.

John Toshack
Pwy fyddai’n rheolwr rhyngwladol? Tybed yn ei galon beth oedd teimladau John Toshack ynglŷn â’r gêm rhyngwladol yn erbyn Hwngari? Beth bynnag y canlyniad, chwalwyd ei garfan gan anafiadau a gan chwaraewyr yn tynnu nôl –roedd rhai yn ddilys gydag eraill yn tynnu nôl ar ôl cael toriad mewn blewyn bach o’u gwallt! Yr un oedd y stori i Loegr ar gyfer y gêm yn erbyn yr Iseldiroedd. Does yna neb eisiau gêmau cyfeillgar yr adeg yma o’r tymor ac yn sicr nid rheolwyr clybiau ac nid y cefnogwyr chwaith o ystyried y gefnogaeth gymharol isel. Gwaith diddiolch ydyw i Toshack heb y sêr a heb y chwaraewyr sydd eisoes wedi ymddeol. Gorfodwyd ef i ddewis tîm dibrofiad ond gwnaeth y chwaraewyr newydd yn rhyfeddol o dda ac roeddynt yn llawn haeddu’r fuddugoliaeth o 2-0.

Tîm Ieuenctid
Gair i orffen am y tîm ieuenctid a gyrhaeddodd rownd y chwarteri yng Nghwpan Ieuenctid Cymru. Fe’m plesiwyd gan yr ymdrech a ddangoswyd yn erbyn Y Rhyl –a’u gwobr ydy gêm yng Nghasnewydd o bob man! Mae ganddynt gêm hefyd yng Nghwpan Gogledd Cymru, a honno ffwrdd yn erbyn Y Rhyl. Bydd yn brofiad da i’r hogiau a dymunaf yn dda iddynt.

Ged’s Suspension
It has been a rather testing time, over the past couple of weeks, trying to find a replacement goalkeeper for suspended Ged McGuigan. I have spoken to numerous keepers but when it came down to it, all were unwilling to move for one reason or another. Last Saturday reserve team keeper Dylan Edwards was thrust into his Welsh Premier debut and, despite being hugely inexperienced, he performed well. One or two have suggested that the club should have a second keeper on the bench but I think that is unrealistic. Ged has made the position his own and an understudy keeper would have gone round the twist sitting on the bench for the best part of two seasons waiting for a chance. Any player worth his salt wants to play week in week out and who can blame them for that.

John Toshack
Who would be an international manager? I wonder in his heart of hearts what John Toshack thought of last Wednesday’s international against Hungary? Regardless of the result, his squad was decimated by injuries and withdrawals, some were genuine while others merely due to a fractured eyelash! It was the same story for the England squad for their match against Holland. Friendly matches at this time of the season are not wanted by anybody and certainly not the club managers and apparently not the supporters either as a comparatively poor gate proved. It is a thankless task for Toshack, robbed of many star players due to retirement or injury he was forced to field a makeshift side but to their credit, the players drafted in put up a good performance and deserved the 2-0 win.

Youth Team
Finally a word about the youth team who reached the quarter final of the Welsh Youth Cup. I was very pleased with the effort and commitment shown against Rhyl and their reward, wait for it, an away draw against Newport County. They also have an away tie against Rhyl in the north Wales Youth Cup to look forward to. All this will be a great experience for the lads. I wish them well in those games.
