Port v Lex - 05/05/01 Warm welcome to this afternoon's encounter with Lex, this of course is our final home game of the season and as such provides me with an ideal opportunity to express my thanks to a number of people. Firstly I would like to thank the members of the Board for their unflinching support of me throughout the season, especially during the time I was unable to be present because of my back. Nobody could have asked for more. Thanks also Bob for preparing an excellent pitch here at Y Traeth; I sometimes think it is too good as teams often raise their game playing on such a surface. Thanks also to Ifor for his sterling work, we certainly have had plenty of injuries to keep him busy this season and to Meirion for his efforts arranging fixtures, getting the players signed and generally helping out. Also thanks to the canteen girls for the tea and the smile. There are many others who work for the club who are much appreciated by myself and the players and of course thanks to you the spectators for turning up to support us week in week out. I hope like me you will agree that progress has been made this term and that we can build on that for next season. I would also like to congratulate Martin Jones on being voted Supporters Player of the Year, he has been a great example to the younger players this season, his enthusiasm, will to win and his ability to gee the team up have been invaluable. He is also in the running for the Players Player of the Year along with Danny and Mike with a few votes still to be cast. All will be revealed at the Presentation evening! My second Manager of the Month Award was very pleasing but it is the players who deserve the plaudits for all their hard work throughout the season. Finally I would like to thank my right hand man this season Osian Roberts, his experience with coaching at a national level has been invaluable to us this season. It is vital to get an assistant these days that you can bounce ideas off and Osian's input has been excellent One of the major themes Osian and myself have been trying to get over to the players this season has been the need for discipline, keeping our shape and maintain concentration, how-ever the quickest booking of the season has been picked up by Mr. Osian Roberts 2 minutes after coming on to make his playing debut for the season at Brymbo the week before last, surely Danny that should have been a fine!! Maybe he was just too keen to make an impact on the pitch. To return n to this afternoon's match, we are down to the bare bones with seven players unavailable for selection, five injured and two suspended. Certainly shows the need for a strong squad. Enjoy the game. |
