Port v Llandudno - 24/08/00

Firstly may I welcome Llandudno, their players, officials and supporters to Y Traeth for this evening's game. They were our first visitors last season as well but let's hope that is the only similarity between the two matches.

Well here we are at the start of another season and all the excitement and anticipation that brings. Tonight our first home game is an important game as we try to capitalise on Saturday's win. I was very pleased with the team's performance and the result against Denbigh. There is certainly room to improve and I am sure that will come. Three of our goals came from corners something Osian has worked hard with the players on and all three were corners we had practiced, that for a coach is a very pleasing aspect as it makes all the hard work seem well worth while both to the players and the coaching staff.

I am told that Saturday's win was the first time we had won an opening day fixture since August 1995 when the club beat LIanelli in the League of Wales, let's hope that is not the only record to be broken this season.

I would like, to congratulate John Williams and the Reserves on their opening day win as well, 9-1 is quite an emphatic margin and it was nice to see Emyr Jones get among the goals. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Reserves all the best for the coming season. I think they have a squad strong enough to win the Caernarfon & District League this season, let's hope that I am right.

Saturday win at Denbigh was also the competitive debut for seven players all of whom have joined the club over the summer. Half Saturday's squad of 14 therefore were new players so it is clear that they will take a while to gel and settle in. I am happy with how things have gone so far, training has been interesting and the players have responded well, pre-season matches were competitive and provided us with a good test. Now the real business has started and the players are looking forward to the challenge. I hope you enjoy this evening's game and make sure to bring a friend with you next time.
