Port v TNS 27/08/05 (English)

Wyneba Port y dechrau anoddaf i dymor ers iddynt ddychwelyd i Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Ar ôl croesawu TNS, nid yw’n mynd yn haws chwaith gyda Rhyl a Bangor hefyd yma yn ystod yr wythnosau nesaf.

Rwy’n credu fod presenoldeb TNS yn dda i’r gynghrair. Dros y tymhorau diwethaf, maent wedi gosod y safon i bob clwb arall i anelu ato. Maent yn dod â chwaraewyr ifanc da i’r clwb ac yn eu gwella drwy iddynt ymarfer yn llawn amser. Mae clybiau eraill fel Llanelli rwan yn dilyn eu hesiampl. Roedd eu perfformiadau yn rownd rhagbrofol Cynghrair y Pencampwyr yn erbyn Lerpwl yn gredyd mawr iddyn nhw ac i’r gynghrair. Yn y diwedd, pum gôl Steve Gerrard oedd y gwahaniaeth rhwng y ddau dîm. Roedd TNS yn ddisgybledig, yn anodd i’w torri lawr ac yn drefnus. Rhaid i lawer o’r credyd fynd i Ken McKenna am ei waith gyda’r chwaraewyr. Mae’n trefnu’r clwb mor dda a nhw ydy’r ffefrynnau y tymor hwn eto.

Rhaid imi hefyd longyfarch Y Rhyl a Chaerfyrddin am eu campau yn Ewrop y tymor hwn. Mae’r ddau glwb wedi codi proffil y gynghrair. Dengys hyn fod y gynghrair yn gyffredinol yn gwella o flwyddyn i flwyddyn ac mae hyn yn dda i weld. Gobeithio fydd y safon yn parhau i godi.

Rydym yn ein trydydd tymor yn ôl yn y gynghrair ac mae gagendor yn datblygu rhwng grwp bychan o glybiau a’r gweddill. Mewn gêmau yn erbyn y timau gorau yma cawn gyfle i brofi ein hunain. Rhaid inni geisio dal ein tir a pherfformio i’r safon orau posibl. Rydym yn ceisio cystadlu trwy ddatblygu chwaraewyr lleol, rhai efallai na fyddai’n cael cyfle mewn unrhyw glwb arall. Heb amheuaeth, mae gennym grwp da o chwaraewyr ac maent i gyd yn gweithio’n galed i wella ac i roi o’u gorau.

Roedd Sadwrn diwethaf yn un o’r dyddiau lle wnaethom amddiffyn yn wael fel uned gan roi’r bêl i ffwrdd yn llawer rhy aml. Fel byddech yn ei ddisgwyl, roedd yr hogiau yn benisel iawn ynglyn â’r canlyniad a’r perfformiad. Rwy’n gwybod y medrwn wneud llawer yn well. Rwy’n hyderus fod y tîm eleni yn mynd i sgorio fwy o goliau ond mae’n rhaid cadw disgyblaeth yn y cefn.

Daliwch i gredu.
Port v TNS 27/08/05

Port face the hardest start to our season since returning to the Welsh Premier. After entertaining TNS it does not get much easier either with Rhyl and Bangor also here in the next few weeks.

I believe that TNS are good for the league. Over the past couple of seasons, they have set the standard every other club has to aspire to. They bring in good young players for the most part and improve them with full time training. Other clubs are now trying to follow suit for example Llanelli. Others may also be considering this course of action inspired by the success of TNS. Their performances, in the qualifying round of the Champions League against Liverpool, were a great credit to them and to the league. The difference between the two sides in the end proved to be Steven Gerrard and his five goals in the tie. TNS were disciplined, hard to break down and well organised. Great credit must go to Ken McKenna for his work with the players. He has got things working well at the club and they are sure to be favourites again this term.

I also have to congratulate both Rhyl and Carmarthen for their exploits in Europe this season. Both clubs have done the Welsh Premier proud. All this is good to see and it shows that the league as a whole is improving year on year and long may it continue.

We are in our third season back in the league and a gulf is now developing between the top handful of clubs and the rest. It is in matches like these against the best that we can really test ourselves. We have to match them and to perform to the best we can. We are trying to compete by developing local players who might not get the opportunity elsewhere. Without doubt we have a good set of players here all of whom are working hard to improve and to give of their best.

Last Saturday was one of those days when collectively we defended poorly and gave the ball away far too often. The players characteristically were gutted with the result and the performance. I know that we can do better. I am confident that we have more goals in the team this season but we need to maintain our discipline in defence.

Thanks for your continued support.
