Port v Wyddgrug / Mold - 04/01/03

A warm welcome to Y Traeth for our first game of 2003. Today's opponents Mold Alex gave us a tough game a few weeks ago at Alyn Park and I am sure they will be looking to do the same today. We will be trying to secure three more points but I am sure it will not be easy.

As we are approximately halfway through the season it is a good opportunity to take stock. At the start of the season we had hoped to have a good start to the season. A record of 14 wins and 1 draw is beyond my wildest hopes. The team have done exceptionally well. The attitude and spirit have been first class. However the job is only half done. People have been telling me that the League is ours, I beg to differ. Being that cavalier is showing a lack of respect to the rest of the clubs. Any club can beat any other club on their day. One of the hardest games we have had so far was at Guilsfield where we had to soak up a lot of pressure. They are bottom but one but gave us plenty to worry about. Currently we have 43 points, realistically we will need in the region of 79 points to win the League that means we need a further 12 wins. It may sound easy when you say it like that but the truth is that it will be far from easy. Just look at the fixtures we have ahead, Buckley away, Ruthin at home and Holyhead away. All very difficult sides to beat and sides we have had plenty of problems with in the past If we can remain injury free and maintain the attitude and application among the squad then I feel confident that we can maintain our form. Early in the season I felt we were rather scraping results, one or two players were missing or unavailable and we had to grind performances, recently however we have been playing well and the results have become more convincing. It is hard to keep all the players in the squad happy but that is part of my job. The starting 11 has been pretty consistent for the past weeks but the players who have come in have done well. The squad has strength in depth and that has been proved time and again.

Finally may I wish you all the best for the New Year. It was nice to see a good crowd for the Llangefni game which turned out to be cracking encounter, let's hope that a few of those who came then will become regular supporters. Thanks for your continued backing and enjoy the game.
