Gemau'r Academi, Y Trallwng, dydd Sul 16 Tachwedd / Academy mathces, Welshpool, Sunday 16 November
Porthmadog (Dan/Under 12) ..... 4 Y Trallwng / Welshpool (Dan/Under 16) ..... 1
Er nad oedd chwarae ar gae llai na’r arfer yn siwtio chwarae hogiau Port gwnaeth hyn ddim i’w
hatal rhag rheoli’r gêm gyfan. Cafodd Port nifer fawr o gyfleoedd ac ar ôl deng munud
manteisiwyd ar y pwysau ar gôl Y Trallwng gyda Jordy Wood yn dechrau'r sgorio i’r tîm cartref.
Disgyn i gysgu wnaeth Port ar ôl mynd ar y blaen yn y 18fed munud pan wnaeth Toby Holly o’r
Trallwng rediad cryf i lawr yr asgell chwith gan sgorio a dychryn tîm Port i mewn i a
ilgychwyn o ddifrif a llwyddodd Guto Roberts, gydag ergyd o bellter, i’w rhoi ar y blaen
unwaith eto ar ôl 25 munud.
Yn yr ail hanner gwellodd pasio Port a gwelwyd cyfleoedd cyson gyda golwr Y Trallwng yn
gorfod gwneud arbediadau ardderchog i’w hatal rhag ymestyn eu mantais. Yn y 39ain munud
llwyddodd Meilir Williams i ymestyn y fantais a wedyn, gydag ymdrech unigol wych, daeth Jack
Davies a’r gêm i ben gyda gôl arall.
Playing on a smaller pitch than usual didn't suit Port's style of play but didn’t stop them
dominating the entire game. Port had plenty of chances and it took them 10 minutes to take
advantage of the pressure they piled on Welshpool with a goal from Jordy Wood.
After taking the lead Porthmadog went to sleep in the 18th minute when Toby Holly of Welshpool
made a strong run down the left side and scored. This shocked the Port side into action and a
long range shot from Guto Roberts put Port back in the lead on 25 minutes.
In the second half, Port improved their passing game and numerous chances were created, but
the Welshpool goalkeeper did an excellent job to keep the score down. Meilir Williams added
another for Port in the 39th minute and an excellent solo effort from Jack Davies in the 58th
minute finished things off.

Roedd yr hogiau wedi gwirioni i gael gêm ar ôl seibiant hir, ac mae rhaid dweud iddi gymryd
amser iddynt setlo i chwarae eu pêl-droed arferol. Dechreuodd y gêm yn siomedig iawn i Port
gyda'r Trallwng yn sgorio gôl ar ôl 7 munud yn unig, ac wedyn ar ôl 20 munud gyda chic rydd
grefftus, a doedd dim gobaith i Ben Tait, golwr Porthmadog. Sgoriodd Port ar ôl 25 munud ar
ôl gwaith da gan Tom Mahoney a ddaeth o hyd i Liam Murphy yn y cwrt cosbi gyda phas gywir a
gwnaeth Liam ddim camgymeriad, gan sgorio i’r gornel chwith.
Roedd Port yn dechrau setlo i mewn i’r gêm erbyn hyn, ond y Trallwng aeth ymlaen i sgorio i’w
gwneud hi’n 1-3 ar yr hanner, a doedd pethau ddim yn edrych yn dda i Borthmadog. Ond daeth
hogiau Port allan efo agwedd hollol wahanol yn yr ail hanner ac, yn wir, sgoriwyd gôl gampus
ar ôl 40 munud ar ôl gwaith da gan Arron Griffiths ar y chwith a gurodd yr amddiffynnwr a
chroesi i’r cwrt cosbi, ac roedd Liam Murphy yno unwaith eto i rwydo. Daeth y gêm yn gyfartal yn
y 50fed munud wedi symudiad da gan Port, gyda Arron Jones yn pasio'r bêl o’r amddiffyn at Arron
Griffiths ar y chwith. Unwaith eto, aeth heibio amddiffynnwr de Y Trallwng a chroesi'r bêl, ac
roedd Raheem Rushton, y tro yma, yno i dderbyn y bêl, a defnyddiodd ei nerth i droi ei
wrthwynebwr ac ergydio'r bêl i’r rhwyd. Daeth pedwaredd gôl Port ar ôl 55 munud pan gafodd Arron
Griffiths y gorau unwaith eto ar amddiffynwyr Y Trallwng a chroesi i’r cwrt cosbi lle roedd Liam
Murphy wedi gwneud rhediad da, a doedd dim gobaith gan golwr y Trallwng i rwystro ei ergyd rhag
taro’r rhwyd i gwblhau 'hat-tric’ hollol haeddiannol.
Erbyn hyn roedd hogiau Port wedi cymryd rheolaeth llwyr o’r gêm a sgoriwyd pumed gôl Port ar y
59fed munud gyda Adam Davies yn gwneud gwaith da, y tro hwn ar y dde, cyn pasio i Arron Evans a
feistrolodd y bêl yng nghanol cae a phasio i Raheem Rushton ar ochr cwrt cosbi’r Trallwng.
Defnyddiodd Raheem ei nerth a’i gyflymder i fynd heibio dau amddiffynnwr a sgorio gydag ergyd
nerthol a chywir i gornel uchaf gôl Y Trallwng. Cafwyd nifer o ymdrechion da eraill gan Port.
Tarwyd y postyn ddwy waith, un waith gan Raheem Rushton a unwaith gan Dylan Jones. Oherwydd y
pwysau trwm a rhoddwyd ar amddiffyn Y Trallwng, gorfodwyd un ohonynt i roi y bêl yn ei rwyd ei
hun ar ôl 60 munud i roi sgôr terfynol o 6 -3 i Porthmadog.
Ar ôl hanner cyntaf anodd i’r tîm cartref, lle doedd pethau ddim yn mynd ei ffordd, dangoswyd
cymeriad a gallu da iawn yn yr ail hanner i droi’r sgôr o’i plaid a doedd gan hogiau'r Trallwng
ddim ateb o gwbwl iddynt. Ymdrech llawn cymeriad gan yr hogiau, da iawn nhw.
The boys were excited to play their first fixture after a long break, but they took a while to
settle into their usual pattern of play. The game started badly with a Welshpool goal after only
7 minutes and then in the 20th minute an accurate free kick left Ben Tait, in the Port goal with
no chance. After 25 minutes Port scored in reply following good work by Tom Mahoney who found
Liam Murphy in the penalty box and he made no mistake with a shot into the left corner.
Port had settled more into the game by now, but it was Welshpool who scored again to make it 1-3
at the break and things weren’t looking too good for Porthmadog. The start of the second period
saw a different attitude by the Port boys and this resulted in an excellent goal on 40 minutes
following good work down the left by Arron Griffiths who beat his marker and crossed for Liam
Murphy to score in the box again. It was all square in the 50th minute when a good move by Port
saw Arron Jones pass the ball from defence to Arron Griffiths on the left who beat his marker
once again and crossed, this time to Raheem Rushton, who used his strength to turn the defender
and score. Port’s fourth goal came in the 55th minute when Arron Griffiths again beat the
Welshpool defender and crossed to Liam Murphy who followed up his good run to strike and beat
the Welshpool goalkeeper for the third time for a well deserved hat-trick.
By now the Port lads were in complete control of the game and their fifth goal came in the 59th
minute following good work by Adam Davies this time on the right as he passed to Arron Evans who
controlled the ball in the middle and found Raheem Rushton on the edge of the box who used his
strength and speed to pass two defenders and shoot with an accurate and powerful shot into the
top corner of the Welshpool goal. More chances came Port’s way following this and the post was
struck twice, by Rushton and Dylan Jones and the pressure resulted in an own goal by a Welshpool
defender after 60 minutes to make the final score 6 – 3 to Porthmadog.
After a difficult first half where things didn’t go their way the Port youngsters showed their
ability and positive attitude in the second half to turn things around, leaving the opposition
with no answer to their pressure. A good effort and application by the all the boys, well done
them.

O’r diwedd, ar ôl gohirio tair gêm gartref cafwyd gemau cyntaf timau Academi Porthmadog ar gaeau
Clwb Chwaraeon Madog. Mewn tywydd perffaith i chwarae pêl-droed roedd tîm hynaf yr academi yn
benderfynol o ailgychwyn rhediad da wedi iddynt golli eu gêm diwethaf i ffwrdd yn Rhyl. O’r
cychwyn cyntaf bu chwarae a pasio da gan yr hogiau gyda llawer o gyfleodd yn dod yn yr hanner
cyntaf, gan gynnwys ergyd yn taro y trawst, ond er rheoli’r chwarae gwastraffwyd pob cyfle.
Daeth y mwyafrif o’r agoriadau i lawr yr ochr chwith lle roedd Carwyn Jones, yn effeithiol iawn
eto fel cefnwr chwith, Dylan Williams a Gethin Jones yn creu trionglau taclus. Cafodd Y Trallwng
gyfnod eithaf taclus yn ystod canol yr hanner cyntaf ond heb greu cyfle clir i sgorio. Ar yr
hanner daethpwyd a chwaraewr newydd i’r Academi, sef Jac Jones o glwb Dyffryn Nantlle, i’r cau
a gyda’i ail gyffyrddiad llwyddodd i agor y sgorio. Yn wir o fewn chwarter awr roedd wedi llwyddo
i sgorio hat-tric! Roedd yr ail hanner wedyn o dan reolaeth llwyr hogia’r Port a bu goliau
ychwanegol gan David Copsey a Carwyn Jones. Gyda’r gêm yn gyffyrddus yn ystod yr ail gyfnod roedd
posib symud y chwaraewyr o gwmpas yn er mwyn iddynt gael profiad o wahanol safleoedd sy’n rhan
bwysig o ddatblygiad y chwaraewyr ifanc. Diweddglo da i ddiwrnod da o bêl-droed i Academi
Porthmadog.
Finally, after three cancellations, Porthmadog Academy were able to play their first home fixtures
of the season at the Clwb Chwaraeon Madog playing fields. In perfect football weather the oldest
age group players were determined to restart a winning run following their defeat at the hands of
Rhyl on their last outing. From the outset they showed some good passing play and the youngsters
created numerous chances during the first half, including one shot that struck the crossbar, but
they failed to convert this possession into goals. The majority of chances stemmed from good work
down the left hand side where Carwyn Jones, outstanding again at left back, Dylan Williams and
Gethin Jones created some effective triangles. Welshpool had a steady spell during the middle part
of the half but couldn’t muster a good goal scoring opportunity. At half time a new player for the
academy, Jac Jones from Nantlle Vale, was brought on and with his second touch of the ball managed
to open the scoring. In fact within the opening 15 minutes of the second half he had managed to bag
himself a hat-trick! The Porthmadog lads dominated the second period and further goals were added
by David Copsey and Carwyn Jones. With the game comfortable in the second half it was possible to
rotate the players and let them experience a different position which is a vital part of their
development. This was a good ending to an excellent day of football for Porthmadog Academy.

Rhyl (Dan/Under 12) ... 3 Porthmadog (Dan/Under 12) ... 2
Porthmadog gychwynnodd orau ac wedi pymtheg munud agorwyd y sgorio ganddynt pan orffennwyd
symudiad ardderchog, a ddechreuodd yn y cefn, gan Meilir Williams. Wedi hyn dechreuodd Rhyl
reoli’r chwarae gan ddefnyddio eu cryfder ynghyd â'r gwynt cryf i roi pwysau mawr ar amddiffyn
Port gan fanteisio ar hyn i sgorio dwy gôl cyn y toriad. Roedd yr ail hanner yn dynn a gwelwyd
cyfleoedd da ar y naill ochr, ond Rhyl sgoriodd gyntaf i'w gwneud hi'n 3 - 1. Llwyddodd Port,
a oedd yn chwarae'r pêl-droed gorau erbyn hyn, i ganfod lle yn amddiffyn Rhyl a doedd hi ddim
syndod pan llwyddodd Gethin Williams i gipio gôl arall. Er iddynt bwyso ymhellach methiant
fu'r ymdrechion i ganfod gôl i unioni'r sgôr a 3-2 i’r Rhyl oedd y sgôr terfynol.
Porthmadog started the brighter of the two teams and after 15 minutes took the lead with a
great passing movement that started from the defence and was eventually finished off by
Meilir Williams. Rhyl then started to take control and used their size and the strong wind to
pile the pressure on the Port back four, scoring two before the interval. The second half was
a tight affair and there were chances at both ends, but Rhyl scored first making it 3-1,
Porthmadog who played the better football, started opening gaps in the Rhyl defence and it
wasn't a surprise when Port got one back through Gethin Williams. Despite the pressure late
on by Port they were unable to find a equalizer and the game finished 3-2 to Rhyl.
Rhyl (Dan/Under 14) ... 3 Porthmadog (Dan/Under 14) ... 5
Chwaraewyd am dri cyfnod o 20 munud, a cawsom ddechrau gwych gan sgorio yn y trydydd munud ar
ôl gwaith da gan Haydn Jenkins i lawr yr asgell chwith, gan iddo pasio dau chwaraewr Rhyl ac
wedyn rhoi croesiad da i mewn i'r cwrt cosbi lle roedd Arron Griffiths yno i sgorio efo ergyd
gywir i'r gôl. Doedd chwaraewyr Rhyl ddim yn medru gwrthsefyll yr ymosodiadau gan hogiau Port
a fe ddaeth yr ail gôl yn syth o gornel gan Arron Evans a buodd yr un chwaraewyr yn anffodus
iawn i beidio a chael gôl arall o gic gosb tu allan i'r cwrt cosbi.
Daeth y drydedd gôl unwaith eto o groesiad da o'r chwith y tro hwn gan Arron Griffiths tuag at
y postyn cefn lle roedd Liam Murphy wedi gwneud rhediad medrus er mwyn penio i'r rhwyd.
Yn yr ail gymal daeth Sion Inch a Dylan Jones ymlaen ar y dde yn lle Jake Jones a Adam Davies
a Gethin Roberts fel eilydd gôl-geidwad, ac roedd Port yn dal i bwyso’n drwm a sgoriodd Arron
Griffiths efo ergyd gywir i'r gornel chwith.
Ond newidiodd y gem am sbel ar ôl y bedwaredd gol, gyda Rhyl yn sgorio tair gol i ddod yn ôl
i’r gêm, ond llwyddodd hogia’ Port i ail afael yn y gêm a mynd ymlaen i bwyso'n galed ac
oherwydd hyn enillodd Adam Davies gig gosb i'w dim a chamodd Tom Mahoney ymlaen a sgorio gyda
chic gosb wych i’r gornel chwith, a doedd dim ffordd yn ôl i’r Rhyl wedyn.
Hon oedd y gem galetaf i hogia'r tîm dan 14 tan rwan, ond gyda gwaith caled a chyd-chwarae da
daeth yr hogia adref gyda buddugoliaeth hollol haeddiannol. Da iawn nhw.
The game was played in three sessions of 20 minutes and Port started well with the opening
goal coming in the third minute following good work by Haydn Jenkins down the left wing where
he passed two Rhyl defenders before crossing into the penalty area where Arron Griffiths was
on hand to score with a precise shot into the goal. Rhyl's players couldn't withstand
Porthmadog's attacks and a second goal soon arrived from an Aaron Evans corner, who was then
unlucky not to score from a free kick from the edge of the penalty box.
The third goal also came from a good cross, from Arron Griffiths on the left wing this time,
who flighted the ball to the far post where Liam Murphy had made an excellent run and he
headed into the home team's net.
In the second part Sion Inch and Dylan Jones came on to replace Jake Jones and Adam Davies on
the right hand side and Gethin Roberts came on as a goalkeeper. Port continued the pressure and
Arron Griffiths scored again with a shot into the left hand corner of the goal.
After the fourth goal came a change in the game when Rhyl managed to score three times
themselves to narrow the score line dramatically but the Port lads managed to hold onto their
lead and came back into the ascendancy and they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Adam Davies
which Tom Mahoney converted beautifully into the left hand corner. This signalled the end of
any hope for Rhyl. This was Port's hardest game of the season so far but due to their team work
and persistence the boys managed to return home with another deserved victory under their belts.
Well done them.
Rhyl (Dan/Under 16) ... 3 Porthmadog (Dan/Under 16) ... 0
Hon oedd trydedd gêm oddi cartref y tîm ac aethant allan yn benderfynol o ymestyn eu rhediad
o beidio ildio gôl, ond am hanner munud yn unig y parodd hyn. Cychwynnodd y gêm yn fywiog
gyda Gethin Jones yn curo’r cefnwr de i gyrraedd y blwch cosbi o fewn eiliadau i’r cychwyn a
chael ei dynnu i lawr. Ond gwrthod rhoi cic o’r smotyn wnaeth y dyfarnwr a chododd y
gôl-geidwad y bel a’i chlirio i lawr y cae i’r pen arall lle bu ansicrwydd rhwng Melir Ellis,
yn y gôl, a’i gapten Iwan Lane a manteisiodd ymosodwr Rhyl ar hyn gan agor y sgorio i’r tîm
cartref. Roedd tîm Rhyl yn chwarae gyda’r gwynt cryf ac roedd y gôl gynnar yma wedi rhoi mwy
o awch iddynt ac roeddent yn dangos ysbryd penderfynol a olygai eu bod yn taclo’n gryf ac
roeddent yn rhwystro Port rhag chwarae pêl-droed fel yr hoffent. Roedd Port yn dal i geisio
chwarae y bêl yn daclus ar hyd y llawr ac i’w hasgellwyr ond roedd y gwrthwynebwyr yn fwy
corfforol ac estynnwyd eu mantais ar ôl deng munud gyda gôl wrth y postyn pellaf o gic cornel.
Creodd Port ambell i hanner cyfle ar ôl gwaith da i lawr yr asgell chwith gan Gethin Jones a
Carwyn Jones ond hanner cyfleon oeddynt yn unig a sgoriodd Rhyl unwaith eto cyn yr hanner i’w
gwneud yn 3 i ddim ar y toriad. Enghraifft o lwc Port ar y diwrnod oedd i’r gwynt ostegu wrth
i’r timau newid drosodd ac er i Port golli mantais hyn golygai bod gwell cyfle i chwarae
pêl-droed ar y llawr a Port gafodd y mwyafrif o’r bêl yn yr ail hanner gan greu nifer o gyfleon
ond heb sgorio. Parhaodd y gwrthwynebwyr i chwarae’n gorfforol ac ychydig o gymorth yn unig a
gafodd yr hogiau gan y dyfarnwr ifanc. Ar y cyfan, roedd perfformiad yr ail hanner yn
ganmoladwy a chafwyd perfformiadau clodwiw gan Ryan Jones yn y cefn, Dylan Williams yn ganol
cae a Carwyn Jones, y cefnwr chwith.
This was the team’s third away fixture of the season and they went onto the field determined to
extend their run of clean sheets, but this only lasted a matter of thirty seconds. The game
started in a lively fashion with Gethin Jones beating his full back and entering the box only to
be up-ended by the defender within seconds of the kick off. The referee refused to give a penalty
and the home goal keeper was able to clear the ball up-field and as it was helped on into Port’s
penalty box some confusion arose between the goal-keeper, Meilir Ellis, and his captain Iwan Lane
and the Rhyl striker was able to seize on the indecision and open the scoring for the home team.
Rhyl had the benefit of the strong wind and the impetus gained from the opening goal gave them
momentum to demonstrate their determination in the tackle and they were able to stop Port from
playing as they would have liked and they stifled their attempts at free flowing football. Port
attempted to pass the ball about and to use their wingers but the opposition were physically
stronger and quicker to the ball and were, therefore, able to extend their lead after ten minutes
with a header at the far post from a corner. Port were able to create a few half decent chances
with some good work down the left wing by Gethin Jones and Carwyn Jones but Rhyl scored again to
extend their lead to a three goal margin by the break. The luck which came Port’s way was
demonstrated at the break as the strong wind was suddenly stiller and although Port were unable
to benefit from a strong wind what it did mean was that the conditions were more favourable to
Port’s passing game. The majority of second half possession was enjoyed by Port’s youngsters but,
despite this, they were unable to convert their numerous attacks into a goal. The opposition
continued their physical approach and minimal protection was received from the young official in
charge of the match. On the whole, the second half performance was commendable enough and there
were a few notable performances, such as Ryan Jones in the defence, Dylan Williams in midfield and
Carwyn Jones at left back.
Gemau'r Academi, Drenewydd, dydd Sul 21 Medi. / Academy mathces, Newtown, Sunday 21 September
Drenewydd / Newtown (Dan/Under 12) ... 2 Porthmadog (Dan/Under 12) ... 6
Dechreuodd tîm dan 12 Porthmadog yn gryf yn erbyn y Drenewydd dan 12, gan greu cyfleoedd o’r
dechrau un. Roedd Porthmadog yn rheoli pethau yn y chwarter awr cyntaf ond heb unrhyw lwc, gan
adael i’r Drenewydd gael eu traed danynt, gan ddod yn ôl i gêm gan greu ychydig o gyfleoedd eu
hunain. Er hynny llwyddodd Port i gael y gorau ar eu gwrthwynebwyr ar ôl i Meilir Williams guro
golwr y Drenewydd yn gyfforddus, a funudau’n ddiweddarach ar y pen arall gwnaeth Dafydd Jones
arbediad gwych i Port i gadw’r sgôr ar 1-0 ar y toriad. Dechreuodd yr ail hanner yn dda gyda
Jordy Wood yn sgorio ychydig funudau ar ôl ailddechrau a funudau’n ddiweddarach dyblodd ei
gyfanswm gyda pheniad. Erbyn hyn, roedd Port yn rheoli pethau ac ychwanegodd Meilir Williams
ei ail gôl i’w gwneud hi’n 4-0. Ymatebodd y Drenewydd gyda dwy gôl ond gorffennodd Port eu
buddugoliaeth o 6-2 gyda goliau gan Rob Owen a Jack Jones yn rhoi dechrau ardderchog i’r tymor
i dîm dan 12 Porthmadog.
Porthmadog under 12 started strongly against Newtown under 12, creating chances from the first
few minutes. Porthmadog dominated the first quarter of an hour with no luck, leaving Newtown to
find their feet, getting back into the match with a couple of chances of their own. However Port
where able to keep on top of their rivals after Meilir Williams calmly slotted home a one-on-one
against the Newtown keeper, minutes later at the other end Dafydd Jones made a great save for
Port to keep it 1-0 at the interval. The second half started well with Jordy Wood scoring a couple
of minutes after the restart and moments later doubling his tally with a header. By this time Port
were well in control and Meilir Williams added his second to make it 4-0. Newtown did reply with
two goals but Port finished off their 6-2 win with goals from Rob Owen and Jack Jones giving
Porthmadog under 12 a great start to the season.

Ar ôl deg munud cyntaf lle roedd y ddau dim yn setlo i lawr, aeth Porthmadog ar y blaen ar y
degfed munud gyda Siôn Spooner yn sgorio ar y postyn pellaf diolch i gic gornel Aron Griffiths.
Cymrodd Port yr awenau wedyn ac ar yr pymthegfed munud fe sgoriodd Aron Griffiths efo peniad. Mi
oedd Porthmadog ar top ac yn anlwcus i fynd i ffwrdd ar hanner amser dim ond dwy gol i fyny. Fe
ddaeth dau eilydd ymlaen ar hanner amser sef Adam Davies a Jake Jones. Ar ôl pas o’r canol cae fe
wnaeth Phil Warrington sgorio a’r ôl pumdeg munud. Fe sgoriodd y Drenewydd ar ôl 60 munud ond fe
wnaeth amddiffyn a chanol cae Porthmadog wrthsefyll y pwysau. Fe gafodd gôl gan Laim Murphy ei
gwrthod a fe ddaeth Gethin Robert ymlaen fel eilydd yn y gôl ar y 45 munud. Ymdrech dda iawn gan yr
hogiau i feddwl mai hon oedd gem gyntaf iddynt gyda’i gilydd.
After both teams had settled into the match in the first ten minutes, Porthmadog went ahead in the
tenth minute with Siôn Spooner scoring at the far post thanks to an Aron Griffiths corner. Port then
took charge of things and then on the fifteenth minute Aron Griffiths scored with a header.
Porthamdog were on top and unfortunate to go in at half time only two goals to the good. Two
substitutes came on at half time – Adam Davies and Jake Jones. After a pass from mid-field, Phil
Warrington scored after fifty minutes. Newtown scored after 60 minutes but Porthmadog’s defence and
mid-field withstood the pressure. Liam Murphy had a goal disallowed and Gethin Roberts came on as
sub-keeper after 45 minutes. A great effort by the lads considering this was their first game together.

Roedd hwn yn gychwyn da i'r tymor newydd i dim dan un ar bymtheg Academi Porthmadog gyda buddugoliaeth
gyfforddus yn erbyn tîm Academi y Drenewydd ym Mharc Latham. Yn yr haul braf mwynhaodd yr hogiau’r gêm
gan chwarae Pêl-Droed hyfryd ar gae ardderchog. Bu'r chwarae cynnar yn eithaf cytbwys gyda'r ddau dim
yn defnyddio'r esgyll yn aml a cheisio canfod ffyrdd trwy amddiffynfeydd y gwrthwynebwyr ond yn raddol
daeth Porthmadog i greu cyfleon i'w ymosodwyr a bu gwaith caled Gethin Jones a troadau cywrain David
Copsey yn achosi trafferthion i'r amddiffynwyr cartref. Wedi chwarter awr agorodd Copsey y sgorio a bu
Port yn parhau gyda'r ymosod am weddill yr hanner er na fu datblygu ar llawer o waith da ar ymyl y blwch
cosbi. Cadwyd y cefn yn dynn hefyd gyda'r capten Iwan Lane a Ryan Jones yng nghanol yr amddiffyn yn
gadarn ac yn sicrhau bod y Drenewydd yn cael y nesaf peth i ddim o gyfleoedd. Wedi'r toriad daeth Port i
reoli’r gêm gan ddatblygu ar eu gwaith da o gwmpas y blwch yn yr hanner cyntaf i gynnwys ergydion ar y
targed ac, yn wir, ychwanegwyd at y sgôr gyda gôl gan Gethin Jones ac yna un arall gan David Copsey i
wneud y sgôr yn 3 i ddim i'r Port. Bu Ezra Warren, a fu'n weithgar iawn trwy'r prynhawn, yn agos efo cwpl
o ergydion a darodd y trawst a cafwyd cyfleon da eraill. Perfformiad da iawn gan hogiau hynaf yr Academi
ac maent yn edrych ymlaen nawr i'r gêm yn erbyn Bangor y Sul nesaf.
This was a good start to the new season for the under 16 squad of Porthmadog Academy with a comfortable
victory at Latham Park against their counterparts from Newtown Academy. In the brilliant sunshine the boys
thoroughly enjoyed the game and played some excellent football on what was a beautiful playing surface.
The opening exchanges were quite even with both teams trying to exploit the wide areas and to penetrate the
opposing defences but gradually Porthmadog began to create chances for their strikers and the industry of
Gethin Jones and David Copsey’s skilful turning caused trouble for the home defence. After a quarter of an
hour Copsey opened the scoring for Porthmadog and they built on this with more attacks which, despite good
work in and around the box, failed to add to the score by the interval. The defence, well marshalled by
Captain Iwan Lane and central defensive partner Ryan Jones, kept Newtown’s chances down to the bare minimum.
After the break Port began to control the game even more and developed on the good work in the final third
of the pitch to include shots at the target and, in fact, Gethin Jones and a second from David Copsey added
to the score line to make the result 3 nil to Port. Ezra Warren, who worked hard in the midfield all
afternoon, went close with a couple of long range efforts that rebounded off the bar and other good chances
were also missed. This was a good performance by the Academy’s oldest age group and they are all looking
forward to next Sunday’s derby against Bangor City.
