Pwy sy’n sicrhau dyrchafiad? Who is being promoted?

CPD Prestatyn Town FCErbyn hyn, mae’r materion ynghlwm wrth dyrchafu a gostwng o UGC yn dod yn gliriach, er heb fod yn bendant eto. Mae’n ymddangos fod ymdrech Lido Afan i ennill dyrchafiad wedi methu. Gyda tair gêm yn weddill, mae Lido 8 pwynt tu ôl i Ton Pentre sydd yn yr ail safle. Rhwng Dinas Powys, Ton Pentre a Goytre mae’r ddau safle uchaf bellach. Golyga hyn fod Caersws bron yn sicr o aros yn yr Uwch Gynghrair a pharhau a’u record o bresenoldeb di-dor.
Heddiw (1 Mai) bu cae Prestatyn yn cael ei archwilio. Mae’n debygol iawn y bydd y clwb, sydd wedi ennill y Cymru Alliance mor bendant, yn sicrhau dyrchafiad. Gwnaed gwaith sylweddol ar y cae yn ddiweddar er mwyn dod â’r cyfleusterau fyny i’r safon gofynnol. Gweler www.prestatyntownfootballclub.co.uk lle mae lluniau o’r gwaith ar y cae i’w gweld ar Galeri’r wefan.
Yfory (Gwener) bydd archwiliad o Maes Tegid sef cae clwb Y Bala. Hefyd fe gyhoeddwyd fod yr Uwch Gynghrair yn mynd i wneud archwiliad ffurfiol o’r cyfleusterau ar yr Oval lle mae clwb Caernarfon wedi bod heb gyflenwad trydan ers dipyn o amser. Hefyd, nododd John Deakin yn y Daily Post (30/4) y byddai colli Llangefni “...yn biti gan fod y clwb yn cael ei drefnu’n dda gyda’r cyfleusterau angenrheidiol, torf a chefnogaeth dda a’r math o glwb da ni eisiau gweld yn y gynghrair”?

The promotion/relegation issues are now becoming clearer though still not entirely settled. It appears that Afan Lido’s promotion bid is more or less at an end. They have three more games left but are 8 points behind Ton Pentre in second place. The top two places are now between Dinas Powys, Ton Pentre and Goytre. That will mean that Caersws will continue their unbroken membership of the WPL.
Today (May 1st) Prestatyn Town’s Bastion Road ground has been inspected. It looks very likely that the runaway winners of the Cymru Alliance will be promoted. Extensive work has recently been undertaken at the ground to bring it up to standard. Progress has been well documented on the Gallery section of the club website on www.prestatyntownfootballclub.co.uk.
Tomorrow (Friday) an inspection will be made on Bala’s Maes Tegid ground. It has also been announced that a formal WPL inspection will be made of Caernarfon Town’s facilities at the Oval where there has been no power supply for some time. John Deakin was quoted in the Daily Post (30/4) saying that the loss of Llangefni “...would be a pity, because they are a well-run club, have all the right facilities, good crowd support and are what we want in the league”?

Robin a Ronnie yn cyfarfod / Robin meets Ronnie

Ronnie ClaytonDiddorol oedd darllen am yr aduniad diweddar rhwng Robin Williams (cyn golwr Port a Wrecsam) a Ronnie Clayton arwr Blackburn Rovers a chyn gapten Lloegr. Y cysylltiad rhwng y ddau oedd tîm enwog RA Tonfannau yn yr 1950au, tîm yn llawn o chwaraewyr proffesiynol ifanc talentog yn gwneud eu gwasanaeth milwrol yn yr ardal. Bu RA Tonfannau yn rhannu’r Traeth gyda chlwb Porthmadog ac yn 1957/58 cyfarfu’r ddau glwb yn ffeinal Cwpan Amatur Cymru pan gurwyd Porthmadog, deiliaid y gwpan am y ddwy flynedd flaenorol.
Cyfarfu Robin a Ronnie Clayton pan aeth Robin yn ddiweddar i weld gêm rhwng Blackburn a Tottenham Hotspurs ym Mharc Ewood. Mae’r tîm isod a chwaraeodd i RA Tonfannau yn dangos y math o dalent a oedd ganddynt.
Robin Williams (yn y gôl), George Showell (Wolves), McFarland (Hibs), Ronnie Clayton (Blackburn Rovers), Newman (Birmingham City), Norris (Bolton Wanderers), Gordon Nutt (Coventry), Hodgson (West Brom), Tommy Taylor (Barnsley a wedyn Man Utd), Groves (Luton), Griffiths (Arsenal).
Does ’na fawr o syndod felly fod RA Tonfannau wedi creu y fath argraff ar bêl-droed yng Nghanolbarth a Gogledd Cymru yn ystod y 50au. Meddai Robin, “Roedd yn wych cyfarfod unwaith eto gyda Ronnie a chael sôn am y 50au. Hefyd roedd yn anfon ei gyfarchion at bobl Port.” Mae Robin wrth gwrs yn gefnogwr rheolaidd ar Y Traeth.

It was interesting to read of the reunion between Robin Williams, the former Porthmadog and Wrexham goalkeeper, and Ronnie Clayton the former Blackburn Rovers hero and former England captain. The link between the two men was the famous RA Tonfannau team of the 1950’s full of talented young professional footballers doing their National Service in the area. The Tonfannau team ground shared with Porthmadog at the Traeth and the two teams played in the famous 1957/58 Welsh Amateur Cup Final when Porthmadog, winners during the two previous seasons, were defeated on that occasion.
Robin met up with Ronnie Clayton again when he went to see a recent fixture between Blackburn and Tottenham Hotspurs at Ewood Park. The following RA Tonfannau line-up gives some idea of the talent available to them.
Robin Williams (in goal), George Showell (Wolves), McFarland (Hibs), Ronnie Clayton (Blackburn Rovers), Newman (Birmingham City), Norris (Bolton Wanderers), Gordon Nutt (Coventry), Hodgson (West Brom), Tommy Taylor (Barnsley and later Man Utd), Groves (Luton), Griffiths (Arsenal).
Little wonder then the impact which the team had on football in Mid and North Wales.
Robin said, “It was great to meet up with Ronnie after so long and to talk about the 50’s. He also wished to be remembered to the people of Porthmadog.” Robin remains a regular supporter at the Traeth.

Chwaraewr y Tymor / Player of the Season

Carl Owen oedd dewis y cefnogwyr am dlws Chwaraewr y Flwyddyn eleni. Roedd yn agos rhwng tri ond bydd neb yn anghytuno gyda’r dewis gan i Carl weithio’n anhygoel o galed dros y tîm eleni. Nid yw fawr o syndod chwaith fod eu gyd-chwaraewyr hefyd wedi eu ddewis yn Chwaraewr Y Flwyddyn.
Aeth tlws y Prif Sgoriwr i Paul Roberts a sgoriodd 14 o goliau (10 yn y cynghrair + 4 yn y cwpanau). Yn yr ail le oedd Marcus Orlik a Carl Owen gyda 9 gôl yr un. Cyflwynwyd y gwobrau gan gadeirydd y clwb, Phil Jones, yn dilyn y gêm yn erbyn Y Rhyl. Manteisiodd cefnogwyr Y Rhyl, a ymunodd yn y dathliadau yn dilyn y gêm, ar y cyfle i ddangos eu gwerthfawrogiad o’u rheolwr, John Hulse yn dilyn ei 200fed gêm yng ngofal y clwb.

Prif-sgoriwr 2007-08 - Paul Roberts - 2007-08 Top-scorer Chwaraewr y tymor 2007-08 - Carl Owen - Player of the season 2007-08 Gwobr gan gefnogwyr Rhyl i John Hulse / Rhyl fans award John Hulse

Carl Owen was voted supporters Player of the Season and, though it was a close contest between three, few will disagree with the choice of a player who has run his heart out for the club this season. It is not a surprise either that his team mates also made him their player of the season.
The leading scorer’s award went to Paul Roberts with 14 goals (10 league + 4 Cups). The runners-up were Marcus Orlik and Carl Owen with 9 goals each. Presentation was made by the chairman, Phil Jones following the game against Rhyl. The Rhyl supporters who joined the post-match celebrations took the opportunity to present their manager John Hulse with an award to mark his 200th game in charge.

Diolch Viv / Thanks Viv

Viv WilliamsDerbyniwyd y newyddion am ymadawiad Viv Williams o’i swydd fel rheolwr CPD Porthmadog gyda theimlad o siom enfawr gan swyddogion a chefnogwyr. Talwyd teyrnged haeddiannol iddo gan Gadeirydd y clwb Phil Jones am y gwaith a wnaeth dros y clwb yn ystod cyfnod o naw mlynedd.
“Bu Viv yn was ffantastig i’r clwb; fo ydy un o’r rheolwyr mwyaf gonest y dowch ar ei draws. Ni fu gair croes rhyngom o gwbl; mae’n un o’r goreuon, gwr bonheddig go iawn.
“Os wnaiff barhau i fod yn rheolwr ac ymuno gyda chlwb arall, dwi’n dymuno’r gorau i ddyn y gwnaf bob amser ystyried yn ffrind.”
Erthygl llawn.

It is with a keenly felt disappointment that the news of the departure of Viv Williams, from his post as manager of Porthmadog FC, has been received by officials and supporters. Chairman Phil Jones has paid Viv a fitting tribute for the remarkable job he has done at Port over the past nine years.
“Viv has been a fantastic servant of the club: he is one of the most honest managers you will ever find. We’ve never had a cross word: he is one of the nicest people you could ever meet, a true gentleman.
“If he continues in management at another club, I wish all the best to a man I will always consider a friend.”

Datblygiadau Cyffrous yn yr Academi / Exciting Academy Developments

Er fod tymor Uwch Gynghrair Cymru wedi dod i ben, nid oes pall eto ar y gweithgarwch ar y Traeth. Yn fuan iawn, bydd y clwb yn cyhoeddi adroddiad am ddyfodol yr Academi. Y bwriad ydy nid yn unig denu ieuenctid gorau de Gwynedd i’r academi ond hefyd datblygu tîm o hyfforddwyr cymwys er mwyn rhoi’r hyfforddiant gorau posib’ i’r chwaraewyr ifanc. Y bwriad wedyn ydy sefydlu cynllun ‘pêl-droed yn y gymuned’ a fydd yn cyffwrdd y mwyafrif o ysgolion a phlant de Gwynedd. Gall hyn arwain at swyddi rhan neu llawn amser i chwaraewyr/hyfforddwyr y clwb.
Nos Fawrth (29 Ebrill) nesaf cynhelir pwyllgor yng Nghlwb y Traeth rhwng y pwyllgor i rieni a’r rhai sy’n bwriadu dod yn hyfforddwyr.
Mae’n amlwg fod swyddogion Port yn cytuno gyda rhybudd y cyn chwaraewr Roly Evans (isod) ac nid oes ganddynt unrhyw fwriad i aros yn llonydd a chael eu taro gan ail fellten!

Though the WPL season has come to an end, the Traeth still remains a hotbed of activity. Very shortly, the club hopes to publish a report on the future of the Academy. The intention is not only to attract the best young players in south Gwynedd to the academy but also to develop a team of qualified coaches to give these youngsters the best possible football coaching. The aim is to establish a ‘football in the community’ scheme which will involve the majority of schools and children in south Gwynedd. This could lead to part-time or full-time jobs for the club’s team of player coaches.
Next Tuesday (April 29) a meeting will be held in the Clubhouse at the Traeth which will involve the parents’ committee and those who intend to gain coaching qualifications.
It is clear therefore that Port officials have no intention of falling into the trap described by former player Roly Evans (below) and stand still waiting for the lightning to strike a second time!

Datganiad wedi ei ryddhau ar ran Bwrdd y Clwb / Statement issued on behalf of the Club Board

CPD PorthmadogRhyddhawyd y datganiad canlynol gan Fwrdd y clwb heddiw (24 Ebrill):
Yn dilyn ymddiswyddiad Viv Williams yr wythnos hon, ar ôl cyfnod fel rheolwr dros dro, mae Bwrdd Clwb Pêl-droed Porthmadog wedi symud yn sydyn i geisio apwyntio rheolwr neu chwaraewr-reolwr parhaol. Dywedodd Cadeirydd y Clwb, Phil Jones,
"Rydym yn hysbysebu yn eang gan obeithio apwyntio olynydd erbyn diwedd mis Mai Bydd y rheolwr newydd yn etifeddu carfan o chwaraewyr talentog a phrofiadol a chlwb gyda seiliau cadarn a dyheadau cyffrous. Mae'r Bwrdd yn cadw meddwl agored am y math o berson yr hoffem apwyntio ac fe fyddwn yn rhoi ystyriaeth deg a chyflawn i bob cais. Yr unig amod fydd ei fod yn glynu at bolisi traddodiadol y clwb o chwarae mwyafrif o hogiau lleol ac, o bosib,’ rhoi pwyslais ar recriwtio mwy o dde Gwynedd. Yn ogystal, bydd mwy o ymdrech i ddatblygu ein Academi, a thîm o hyfforddwyr lleol a gaiff eu paratoi er mwyn iddynt ennill y cymwysterau perthnasol."
Disgwylir i’r darpar reolwyr gyflwyno eu ceisiadau erbyn y 10 Mai a cynhelir y cyfweliadau yr wythnos ganlynol gan obeithio penodi yn fuan wedyn, "fel y gall y rheolwr newydd baratoi yn drwyadl ar gyfer y tymor nesaf" ychwanegodd Phil Jones.

The following statement was released by the club board today (April 24):
Following the resignation of caretaker boss, Viv Williams, earlier this week the board of Porthmadog Football Club has moved swiftly and advertised the post for a new manager or player manager for next season. Club Chairman, Phil Jones said,
"We expect to appoint a successor to Viv by the end of May at the latest. Viv leaves behind a squad of very experienced and talented players and, both on and off the field the new manager will inherit a solid, well run club which has ambitions. The Board has an open mind about the potential successor and will consider all applications equally. We will expect, though, that the new manager adheres to our traditional policy of fielding a majority of local players with, perhaps, more emphasis on recruiting within south Gwynedd itself. We will also be putting more effort into developing our Academy and building a team of well qualified local coaches, with the Club financing their training."
Closing date for applications is 10th. May and it is anticipated that interviews will be held the following week with an appointment made soon afterwards "so that the new manager can prepare properly for next season" added Jones.

Da iawn ond dyma rybudd! / Well done but be warned!

Mae Roly Evans, cyn chwaraewr Port o gyfnod llwyddiannus y 1960au a fu’n sgwrsio gyda rhai o gefnogwyr Port ar y Belle Vue, wedi cysylltu gyda’r wefan eto yn dilyn y ddihangfa Houdini ddydd Sadwrn. Ond ar ôl llongyfarch y clwb, mae hefyd yn rhoi rhybudd pendant.
“Llongyfarchiadau ar eich buddugoliaeth rhagorol ddydd Sadwrn!
“Cysylltais â chi ar ôl gweld y gêm oddi cartref yn Y Rhyl a dwedais yr adeg honno y gallai Port fod wedi ennill .... felly doedd y canlyniad ddydd Sadwrn ddim yn syndod i mi!
“Dwi am ddymuno’n dda ichi.
“Dwi’n cymharu Port rwan â fy nhref i, sef Wrecsam, a achubodd eu hunain y tymor diwethaf ar y diwrnod olaf.
“Talwch sylw os gwelwch yn dda i’r sefyllfa mae nhw ynddi rwan: ar ôl iddynt feddwl, mae’n amlwg, nad ydy mellten yn taro yn yr un man eilwaith. Mae'n beryg y bydd yn taro eto, os wnewch aros yn yr unfan.

Roly Evans, former Port player of the successful 1960’s era who met up with Port supporters at the game on the Belle Vue, has contacted the website again following the Houdini escape on Saturday but, whilst congratulating the club, he also issues a stark warning.
“Congratulations on an excellent end to the season!
“I contacted you after watching the away game at Rhyl and told you then I thought Port could have won that game....so it was no surprise to me to see Saturday’s result!
“I wish you well.
“I compare you now to my home town team Wrexham who survived on the last day of last season.
“Just take note please the situation they now find themselves in having thought- obviously -lightning does not strike in the same place twice. It does if you stand still.”

Viv yn gadael - ECSGLIWSIF! / Viv to leave Porthmadog - EXCLUSIVE!

Viv WilliamsDyddiau’n unig ar ôl cadw Porthmadog yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru mewn amgylchiadau pur ddramatig, mae Viv Williams wedi penderfynu dod â’i gyfnod gyda Port i ben ar ôl naw mlynedd fel chwaraewr, is-reolwr a rheolwr. Esboniodd Viv ei benderfyniad i'r wefan swyddogol: "Cytuno wnes i fod yn rheolwr mewn gofal hyd at ddiwedd y tymor ac er bod y dasg wedi profi’n anoddach na ddychmygais rŷm wedi llwyddo i gwblhau’r gwaith a chadw’r clwb yn yr Uwch Gynghrair."
Er y bydd pawb sy'n gysylltiedig â'r clwb yn siomedig nad ydy Viv am arwain y clwb i dymor arall yn Uwchgynghrair Cymru, rhaid cofio mai dros-dro y cytunodd ail-ymuno efo'r clwb. Yn ystod ei gyfnod efo'r clwb enillwyd y Cymru Alliance gyda'r mwyaf o bwyntiau mewn hanes a cafwyd 5 tymor yn ôl yn Uwchgynghrair Cymru.
Bydd y dyfalu'n dechrau am bwy fydd y reolwr newydd ar gyfer tymor 2008-09. Mae Viv yn obeithiol y bydd safon yr ymgeiswyr yn uchel: “Mae Port ymysg y goreuon yn y gynghrair yn y ffordd mae’r clwb yn cael ei redeg a byddaf ond yn rhy hapus i wneud cyswllt gyda phwy bynnag sydd yn cael ei apwyntio er mwyn iddo setlo i mewn a dod i adnabod y chwaraewyr."
Erthygl llawn.
Diolch Viv a phob lwc at y dyfodol!

Only days after keeping Porthmadog in the WPL in truly dramatic circumstances, Viv Williams has decided to call it a day on his 9 year stint with the club as player, assistant manager and manager. Viv explained his decision to the official web-site: "I only agreed to take the job in a caretaker role to the end of the season and though the task proved more difficult than I had imagined we have achieved what we set out to do and have kept the club in the Welsh Premier."
Even though everyone linked to the club will be disappointed that Viv won't be leading the club into another season in the Welsh Premier, it must be remembered that he only agreed to re-join on a temporary basis. During his time at the club Port won the Cymru Alliance with a record number of points and secured 5 seasons back in the Welsh Premier.
The guessing game about who will succeed Viv in the job will now start. Viv himself is hopeful that the standard of applicant will be high: "Port is one of the best run clubs in the league with a broad base in the community and I will only be too happy to liaise with anyone appointed to secure a smooth transfer, enabling the new manager to settle in and get to know the players."

Rhagolwg : Port v Rhyl : Preview

CPD Rhyl FCMae “Sadwrn y Cwymp Mawr” yn agos, pan fydd un neu efallai ddau allan o’r tri chlwb yn y gwaelodion yn disgyn allan o Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Taflwyd y sefyllfa yn gwbwl agored gyda buddugoliaeth Caernarfon dros Langefni. Roedd yr ynyswyr wedi eu disgrifio fel y tîm efo’r fform gorau a hwy oedd ffefrynnau’r ‘arbenigwyr’ i sicrhau’r tri phwynt –ond ar y noson bu hynny ddim o gymorth i’r clwb. Bydd buddugoliaeth i Gaersws ddydd Sadwrn yn eu gwneud yn ddiogel ond unrhyw beth llai a bydd gan Port y cyfle i symud yn uwch na’r tîm o’r canolbarth os fedran guro’r Rhyl. I gadw uwchben Llangefni rhaid cael o leiaf cystal canlyniad â gaiff yr ynyswyr yn Port Talbot.
Nid yw bod yn ffefrynnau yn broblem sy’n mynd i effeithio Port ddydd Sadwrn – fel y dywedwyd hyd syrffed, ni chawsant fuddugoliaeth ar y Traeth drwy’r tymor. Mae’r ffaith fod Y Rhyl wedi sicrhau’r 3ydd safle yn dangos eu cryfder a wedyn mae ‘Jiws’ y sgoriwr toreithiog sydd wrth ei fodd yn sgorio yn erbyn ei hen glybiau, fel y dangosodd ym Mangor nos Fawrth gyda dwy gôl allweddol. Ar yr ochr bositif, llwyddodd Port i ddal Y Rhyl tan y munudau olaf yn ddiweddar ar y Belle Vue. Hefyd reit agos bu y mwyafrif o’r gêmau cynghrair diweddar rhwng y ddau glwb. Ond yn fwy na dim, ddydd Sadwrn ydy ein “Cup Ffeinal” ni - amdani hogiau!
Ymwelwch â Coral i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Rhyl.

‘Big Drop Saturday’ approaches when one or perhaps two out of three clubs will lose their places at the top table of Welsh domestic football. The whole situation has been thrown wide open by Caernarfon’s defeat of Llangefni. The island club had been described as the form team and were the “experts’” favourites to pick up three points at the Oval and that, in all probability, did not help them on the night. A win for Caersws at home to Caernarfon will make them safe. Anything less than a win and Port can move ahead of them if they beat Rhyl. To keep themselves above Llangefni, Port have to match anything the islanders can do at Port Talbot.
Being hot favourites is not a problem that will concern Port on Saturday for as has been said over and over -there have been no victories at the Traeth this season and after all Rhyl have already secured 3rd place in the table. In addition, there is the ‘Jiws Factor’, with the prolific striker showing, with his two goals at Bangor on Tuesday, what a threat he is to his former clubs. On the positive side, Port matched Rhyl recently at the Belle Vue but were unfortunate to go down to a late goal. Most other league encounters between the two clubs in recent seasons have been close affairs. But above all this is our “Cup Final”. Come on lads you have to do it!

Diweddglo Cyffrous i’r Tymor / Exciting Finale to the Season.

CaerswsMae pnawn Sadwrn yma yn argoeli i fod yn un hynod o gyffrous i’r tri clwb ar y gwaelod, wedi i Langefni golli eu gêm hollbwysig i ffwrdd yn erbyn Caernarfon. Y Cofis fydd gwrthwynebwyr Caersws, tra bydd y ddau glwb arall yn wynebu timau sy’n agos at frig y tabl, wrth i Borthmadog groesawu’r Rhyl i’r Traeth ac i Langefni fynd ar daith hir i lawr i Bort Talbot.
Os all clwb y Traeth gyfateb canlyniad Llangefni bnawn Sadwrn, ni fyddant yn gorffen yn is na’r 17fed safle. I ddileu unrhyw amheuaeth am eu dyfodol yn yr Uwch Gynghrair rhaid i Port sicrhau buddugoliaeth gyntaf y tymor ar y Traeth yn erbyn y Rhyl a gobeithio y bydd Caersws yn cael gêm gyfartal neu’n colli yn erbyn y Cofis. Bydd hi felly’n bnawn o gnoi’r ewinedd i’r tri clwb wrth i’r tymor ddod i ben.

LlangefniThis Saturday afternoon promises to be an extremely exciting one for the bottom three clubs, after Llangefni failed to win their vital away match against Caernarfon. The Canaries will be Caersws’ opponents, while the other clubs face opponents from the higher echelons of the league, as Porthmadog welcome Rhyl to the Traeth and Llangefni make the long trip down to Port Talbot.
If the Traeth club can match Llangefni’s result on Saturday it would guarantee they will not finish lower than 17th spot. To erase any doubts surrounding their Welsh Premier future, Port have to gain the season’s first victory on the Traeth against Rhyl and hope that Caersws lose or draw against the Cofis. It will therefore make for a nail bighting finale for all three clubs involved.

Cynghrair dwy adran erbyn 2010/11 / Two tier league by 2010

WPDaeth Uwch Gynghrair Dwy Adran gam arall yn nes wrth i Gadeiryddion y Gynghrair gyfarfod yn Park Hall, Croesoswallt ddydd Sul. Llwyddodd y cynnig gyda pleidlais o 10-4 o blaid dwy adran o ddeg clwb gyda’r clybiau yn chwarae eu gilydd bedair gwaith y tymor. Bydd y newidiadau yn cael eu cyflwyno erbyn tymor 2010/11.
Dywedodd Phil Jones, cadeirydd Porthmadog “Y teimlad oedd fod y strwythur presennol wedi mynd braidd yn stêl ac roedd angen i bethau newid.” Ar y llaw arall ychwanegodd nad oedd yn gwbl fodlon a’r drefn o glybiau’n chware’u gilydd bedair gwaith bob tymor ond roedd yn rhaid cael newid.
Ar rhaglen ‘Taro’r Post’ ar Radio Cymru dywedodd Jeff Thomas (Caerfyrddin) na fyddai’r newidiadau’n llwyddo heblaw fod y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed yn barod i fuddsoddi’n ariannol i gefnogi’r newidiadau a hefyd gwella marchnata er mwyn sicrhau gwell nawdd i’r gynghrair.
Bydd y cynigion yn cael eu trosglwyddo i’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed i gael eu hystyried gyda gweddill Cynllun Strategol y Gymdeithas. Wrth groesawu’r penderfyniad dywedodd ,Ysgrifennydd y Gynghrair, John Deakin:
“Rwy’n hapus iawn fod y clybiau nid yn unig wedi cydnabod yr angen am newid ond hefyd wedi cefnogi camau radical i fynd a’r gynghrair ymlaen. Mae dal angen llawer o drafod a chynllunio ond rwy’n obeithiol y bydd y rhan helaethaf o’r cynigion yn cael eu derbyn.”

WPThe Two Division WPL moved another step closer at the meeting of club chairmen held at Park Hall Oswestry last Sunday. The decision was taken by a vote of 10-4 in favour of Two 10 club divisions with the teams playing each other 4 times a season. The re-structured league will be introduced in season 2010/11.
Porthmadog Chairman Phil Jones said, “The feeling was that the present league structure had become stale and that change was needed.” But added that he was not entirely convinced that playing each club four times was the ideal solution but change was needed.
Jeff Thomas (Carmarthen Town) put forward the view on Radio Cymru’s “Taro’Post” that unless the FAW was prepared to put in more money to back these changes and to improve marketing to increase sponsorship then these changes would not have the desired effect.
These proposals will now be forwarded to the Football Association of Wales for their consideration as part of the Association's Strategy Plan. Welcoming the decisions taken, Welsh Premier League Secretary John Deakin said:
"I am very pleased that the clubs not only recognised the need for change, but supported the Radical steps that are needed to take the competition forward. There is still a lot of negotiations and planning required, but I would be hopeful that the bulk of the proposals are adopted."

Rhagolwg: Caerfyrddin / Preview: Carmarthen

Caerfyrddin / CarmarthenMae 180 munud o’r tymor yn weddill i Port achub eu lle yn y brif adran bêl-droed yng Nghymru. Gall Port fynd i’r gêm olaf yn erbyn Y Rhyl yn dal â gobaith i aros fyny?
Bydd hyn yn cael ei benderfynu yng Nghaerfyrddin ddydd Sadwrn, mwy na thebyg, ac bydd hefyd yn ddibynnol ar beth sy’n digwydd rhwng Llangefni a Bangor nos Wener ac yn y gêmau rhwng Caernarfon ac Aberystwyth a Castell Nedd a Chaersws ddydd Sadwrn. Wedi i bwyntiau gael eu taflu ddydd Sadwrn diwethaf, bydd y chwaraewyr yn sylweddoli bod yn rhaid torri allan y camgymeriadau unigol, gwirion sydd wedi britho gormod o’r perfformiadau diweddar gan roi’r cyfan dros y clwb heb adael i densiwn gael y gorau arnynt. Mae Caerfyrddin wedi mwynhau tymor da o dan Deryn Brace a Marc Aizlewood ac mae ganddynt chwaraewyr yn Danny Thomas a Jamal Easter sy’n gallu bygwth unrhyw amddiffyn. Yn ogystal, mae ganddynt chwaraewyr profiadol fel Nathan Cotterall a Sacha Walters sydd wedi rhoi prawf ar amddiffyn Port yn y gorffennol. Pan gyfarfu’r ddau glwb ar Y Traeth eleni, roedd Port ar y blaen ar yr hanner gyda gôl dda gan Marcus Orlik ond, yn yr ail hanner, gadawyd y gêm lithro i ffwrdd. Yn dilyn y gêm yn erbyn Cei Conna, roedd rhwystredigaeth Viv yn amlwg a dylai’r chwaraewyr fynd i’r cae ddydd Sadwrn gyda’i eiriau yn canu yn eu clustiau, “mae’n rhaid i’r chwaraewyr edrych ar eu hunain gan ni allant weld bai ar neb arall.” Mae’n amser gwneud safiad ac mae’n dal yn bosib i gwblhau’r dasg.

For Porthmadog, there are 180 minutes of football left to save the club’s place at the top table of Welsh domestic football. Whether the game against Rhyl has any significance will depend on what happens on Saturday at Carmarthen and also what happens on Friday when Llangefni take on Bangor City and again on Saturday when Caernarfon entertain Aberystwyth and Caersws face Neath.
After points were thrown away last Saturday, the players know that they must cut out the individual errors that have haunted many recent performances and play for the club without allowing the tension of the situation get to them. They face a Carmarthen side that has had an excellent season under Deryn Brace and Mark Aizlewood with Jamal Easter and Danny Thomas proving a threat to any defence. In addition, they have experience in players such as Nathan Cotterall and Sacha Walters who have tested Port defences in the past. In the meeting between the clubs at the Traeth, after leading at the interval thanks to a good goal by Marcus Orlik, Port allowed the game to slip in the second period. Following the game against Connah’s Quay, the normally cool Viv Williams showed his obvious frustration and the players should go out on Saturday with his words ringing in their ears, “The players have to look at themselves because they can blame no-one else.” It’s stand up to be counted time and the job can still be done.

Dim trwydded UEFA i glybiau’r Uwch Gynghrair / No Club License for WPL clubs

Uwch Gynghrair / welsh PremierMae pob un o’r 18 clwb yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru wedi methu yn eu hymgais i ennill Trwydded Clwb UEFA. Penderfynwyd hyn yn y cyfarfod trwyddedu a gynhaliwyd yng Nghaerdydd, ddydd Llun. Bydd y clybiau yn gallu apelio yn erbyn y dyfarniad.
Y tymor diwethaf llwyddodd 12 clwb, gan gynnwys CPD Porthmadog, i dderbyn trwydded ond y tymor hwn mae’r meini prawf yn llymach. Mae’n rhaid i’r rheolwr ddal Trwydded Hyfforddi Proffesiynol neu fod â phum mlynedd o brofiad yn y gynghrair sydd yn syth yn torri allan nifer o glybiau. Maen prawf arall ydy profion meddygol i chwaraewyr lle mae’n rhaid i bob chwaraewr yn y brif garfan gael Echocardiogram, ECG ac asesiad meddygol sydd yn golygu costau sylweddol a baich gweinyddol.
Dywed Andrew Howard, Swyddog Trwyddedu’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed,
“Er fod y clybiau wedi methu ennill y drwydded y tro hwn, rwy’n hyderus y bydd o leiaf chwe clwb yn llwyddiannus yn eu hapêl a does yna ddim rheswm na allant gywiro’r manion a’u rhwystrodd mewn pryd i dderbyn Trwydded UEFA ym mis Mai.
“Mae disgwyl i glybiau bach gyfarfod â’r gofynion gyda gwirfoddolwyr yn gweinyddu yn anodd iawn.”
I gymryd rhan yng nghystadlaethau Ewrop, mae’n orfodol i gael Trwydded UEFA felly i Lanelli, TNS a Rhyl, sydd eisoes wedi sicrhau mynediad, a hefyd Bangor yn debygol o ddilyn, mae’n holl bwysig iddynt ennill eu hapeliadau er mwyn chwarae yn Ewrop yn yr haf. Y newyddion da ydy fod Mr Howard yn, ychwanegu,
“Mae’r pedwar clwb yn agos iawn at sicrhau’r drwydded a gyda’r argymhellion o’r pwyllgor trwyddedu, maent yn gwybod yn union beth sydd angen ei wneud erbyn y cyfarfod apêl ar 27 Mai.

UEFAThe eighteen Principality Welsh Premier League Clubs were all denied a UEFA Club Licence at the First Instance Body meeting, which met in Cardiff on Monday and will be able to appeal against the decision.
Last season, a record breaking twelve clubs, which included Porthmadog FC, were licensed but this season the criteria is more stringent. The Team Manager requires either a Pro Licence or five years experience in the League, which immediately rules out several clubs. Another new criterion is the Player Medicals, where all players in the First Team have to undergo and Echocardiogram, ECG and General Medical Assessment, which incurs a tremendous amount of expense and administration.
FAW Club Licensing Officer Andrew Howard said,
"Although all of our clubs were denied a Licence at the first Instance, I'm confident that at least six will appeal against that decision and I see no reason why those clubs can not rectify the minor non-conformities in time to be granted a UEFA Licence in May.
"To ask smaller clubs like ours to meet the same regulations, when the majority of clubs have an administration run by volunteers, is very hard.”
The UEFA Licence is a pre-requisite for participation in Europe, so for Llanelli, TNS and Rhyl who have already qualified on sporting merit and probably Bangor City, it is essential for them to appeal successfully in order to participate in the summer but there is good news for those clubs as Mr. Howard continued,
“The four clubs concerned are very close to achieving the Licence and with the recommendations from the First Instance Body, they know exactly what they need to do in time for the Appeals Body on May 27th."

Matthew Hughes yn cael tymor arbennig / Matthew Hughes in outstanding form

Mae Matthew Hughes, ymosodwr yr ail dîm, yn cael tymor arbennig. Nos Fawrth ddiwethaf (1 Ebrill) sgoriodd hat-tric yn erbyn Blaenau Ffestiniog yng Nghae Clyd – ei chweched hat-tric o’r tymor. Erbyn hyn, mae wedi sgorio 35 o goliau mewn gêmau cynghrair a chystadlaethau cwpan. Mae’r sgorio cyson yma yn ogystal â’i brofiad wedi helpu’i godi’r tîm i’r ail safle yn y gynghrair. Digwyddodd hyn ar gefn rhediad o wyth buddugoliaeth gynghrair yn olynol. I ddod o hyd i record well nag un Matthew yng Nghynghrair Gwynedd, mae’n rhaid mynd yn ôl i dymor 1997/8 pan sgoriodd Viv Williams (ie Viv!) 43 o goliau i Amlwch. John Hayes o glwb Mountain Rangers sydd â’r record orau un yng Nghynghrair Gwynedd yn sgorio 51 gôl yn ôl yn nhymor 1993/94.

Matthew Hughes, reserve team striker, is enjoying an outstanding season. Last Tuesday (April 1st) he scored a hat-trick against Blaenau Ffestiniog at Cae Clyd which was a remarkable sixth hat-trick of the season! So far this season, he has scored 35 goals in league and cup competitions. This tally, together with Matthew’s footballing experience, has helped lift the reserves into second place in the Gwynedd League following a run of eight straight league victories. To find a goal tally, which beats Matthew’s, you have to look back to season 1997/98 when Viv Williams (yes Viv!) scored 43 goals in that season for Amlwch Town. The goal scoring record for the Gwynedd League is held by John Hayes who scored 51 goals for Mountain Rangers in season 1993/94.

Rhagolwg: Brwydr yn y gwaelodion / Preview: Relegation battle

Cei Conna / Connah's QuayGyda ond tri penwythnos o dymor 2007/08 yn weddill, mae’r cyfan yn y gwaelodion yn dal yn y fantol ac mae’n bosib iawn bod yna dro neu ddau ar ôl yn y gynffon cyn daw’r cyfan yn glir. Yn ddiweddar, mae Llangefni wedi codi’r berw gyda perfformiadau arbennig ar Gae Bob Parry i sicrhau buddugoliaethau dros Port Talbot, Aberystwyth a Chastell Nedd. Yn ddigon rhyfedd y penwythnos hwn, gwelwn y chwe clwb sydd yn y gwaelodion yn wynebu’i gilydd gyda Chaernarfon yn Cefn nos Wener, Llangefni yn ymweld â Chaersws a Port yn croesawu Cei Conna ddydd Sadwrn.
Nid yw’n glir eto sawl clwb fydd yn disgyn -ond mae Lido Afan wedi llithro i’r pumed safle’n ddiweddar 7 pwynt y tu ôl i Dinas Powys yn yr ail safle. Ond mae 9 gêm yn dal yn weddill.
Mae Port yn gwybod fod ail adrodd y fuddugoliaeth a gafwyd ar Lannau Dyfrdwy bellach yn anghenraid. Nid oes angen edrych dros ganlyniadau’r gorffennol, yr unig beth sydd angen rŵan ydy canolbwyntio ar ddydd Sadwrn a chodi tri phwynt. I sicrhau hyn, bydd rhaid dod â’r rhediad ofnadwy o 14 gêm ar Y Traeth, heb fuddugoliaeth, i ben. Os ydy Marcus Orlik yn holl iach gall hyn fod yr ysbrydoliaeth sydd angen ar y garfan. “Mae angen y fuddugoliaeth ddydd Sadwrn,” oedd sylw Viv Williams. “Mae mor syml â hynny. Os na lwyddwn, byddwn mewn trafferth, ond tra fod yna obaith byddwn yn mynd amdani. Tan ei bod yn fathemategol amhosibl, byddwn yn dal i frwydro.”

With only three weekends left before the curtain comes down on the 2007/08 season there is still all to play for and there could be a twist or two yet before the final placings have been decided. Llangefni have certainly raised the stakes with their remarkable series of home wins over Port Talbot, Aberystwyth and Neath Athletic. Ironically this weekend sees the bottom six facing each other as Caernarfon visit Cefn on Friday while on Saturday Llangefni visit Caersws and Port entertain Connah’s Quay.
It is still not clear whether one or two clubs will drop out of the WPL but Afan Lido have slipped recently to 5th place 7points behind Dinas Powys in 2nd spot –but there are still nine games left.
Port know that a repeat of the victory over the Nomads at Deeside Stadium is a must on Saturday. Previous records and recent form are not important any more as they must concentrate on picking up three vital points and then move on from there. To achieve this they must end a run of 14 games without a home win. If Marcus Orlik is fit again it could give Port the boost they need. “We need a win on Saturday,” commented Viv Williams. “It’s that simple. If we don’t we really are in trouble, but while there’s hope we’ll go for it. We won’t give up unless it becomes mathematically impossible to stay up.”

Mis Mawrth yr Ail Dîm / Reserves Round-up: March

Iwan ThomasBu’n rhaid gohirio’r gêm rhwng y cyntaf a’r ail, rhwng Port a Llanllyfni ddydd Sadwrn. Hyn am yr ail dro yn ystod y mis. Tair gêm a chwaraewyd ym mis Mawrth gyda Port yn ennill y dair a hyn yn eu codi i’r ail safle yn y tabl. Ond mae gan Llanllyfni, sydd ar y brig, a’r Bermo, sydd yn drydydd, a gêmau mewn llaw. Yn y fuddugoliaeth o 6-2 yn erbyn Real Llandudno sgoriodd Matthew Hughes hat tric, ei bedwerydd o’r tymor. Ceri Roberts sgoriodd y gyntaf ar ôl naw munud a Mark Bridge ac Iwan Jones ychwanegodd y ddwy gôl arall. Dilynwyd hyn gyda dwy gêm yn erbyn Y Bontnewydd. Ar y Traeth sicrhaodd Port fuddugoliaeth gyfforddus o 5-0. Cafodd Mike Foster y gyntaf ar ôl pum munud a sgoriodd Matthew Hughes, Iwan Tomos a Ceri Roberts cyn yr hanner i’w gwneud yn 4-0. Daeth y bumed ar ôl 56 munud pan sgoriodd Matthew Hughes ei ail gôl o’r prynhawn. Roedd y gêm yn Y Bontnewydd yn dipyn agosach ond Port enillodd eto, y tro yma o 3-2.Y Bontnewydd sgoriodd gyntaf ond daeth gôl gan Matthew Hughes a’r sgôr yn gyfartal cyn yr hanner. Aeth Y Bontnewydd ar y blaen eto wedi’r hanner cyn i ddwy gôl gan Ceri Roberts sicrhau’r 3 pwynt i Borthmadog. Ar ddechrau Ebrill cafwyd buddugoliaeth ar Ddiwrnod Ffwl Ebrill dros Blaenau Ffestiniog diolch i ddwy gic o’r smotyn gan Matthew Hughes.

The top of the table clash with Llanllyfni did not materialise on Saturday because of a waterlogged pitch. This is the second time the game has had to be postponed leaving the reserves with three games during the month. All three were won and this has lifted them to second place in the table though both their nearest rivals Llanllyfni and Barmouth have games in hand. In the 6-2 victory over Real Llandudno top scorer Matthew Hughes scored yet another hat-trick, his fourth of the season. Ceri Roberts scored the opener after nine minutes and Mark Bridge and Iwan Jones also got their names on the scoresheet. This was followed by back to back fixtures against Bontnewydd. At the Traeth Port gained a comfortable 5-0 win. Mike Foster opened the scoring after five minutes and goals from Matthew Hughes, Iwan Tomos and Ceri Roberts made it 4-0 at the interval. Matthew Hughes scored his second after 56 minutes to complete the scoring. The return fixture was a closer affair but Port again ran out winners by 3-2. Bontnewydd scored first but Matthew Hughes brought the scores level at the interval. Bontnewydd went ahead again after the break but two goals by Ceri Roberts gave Port all three points. Two Matthew Hughes penalties got Port off to winning ways in April with a 3-2, April Fool’s Day, win over Blaenau Ffestiniog.
