10/06/08 Bickerstaff yw Prif Hyfforddwr y Rhyl / Bickerstaff is Rhyl’s new Head Coach. Wedi iddo arwain Rhyl i fuddugoliaeth o 1-0 yn erbyn clwb Distillery o Ogledd Iwerddon dros y penwythnos, doedd y cyhoeddiad heddiw fod Allan Bickerstaff wedi’i benodi’n Brif Hyfforddwr y Rhyl ddim yn fawr o syndod. Ymunodd Bickerstaff â Phorthmadog o glwb Airbus Brychdyn fis Tachwedd diwethaf i helpu Viv Williams yn y frwydr yn erbyn y cwymp. Cyn hyn bu Bickerstaff, Swyddog Datblygu Pêl-droed Sir Ddinbych, yn Reolwr Clwb Prestatyn. Diolch i Allan am ei waith caled dros y tymor, a phob hwyl iddo yn ei swydd newydd! After having lead Rhyl to a 1-0 victory against Distillery of Norther Ireland over the weekend, the announcement today that Allan Bickerstaff has been appointed as Rhyl’s Head Coach was not a huge shock. Bickerstaff joined Porthmadog from Airbus Broughton last November to help Viv Williams in the fight against relegation. Before this Bickerstaff, Denbighshire’s Football Development Officer, was manager of Prestatyn Town. Thanks to Allan for all his hard work over the season, and all the best to him in his new post! 08/06/08 CPD Porthmadog: Gwefan orau Cymru yn 2007/08 / CPD Porthmadog: Best Welsh club site for 2007-08 Dyma’r adeg o’r flwyddyn pan mae gwobrau’r cylchgrawn ‘Welsh Football’ yn cael eu cyhoeddi. Gyda balchder, gallwn gyhoeddi mai i CPD Porthmadog mae’r brif wobr yn mynd am y wefan orau yng Nghymru am dymor 2007/08. Bydd ymwelwyr rheolaidd â’r safle yn cofio mai gwefan Porthmadog enillodd y wobr hon hefyd yn 2006/07. Dros y ddegawd diwethaf, mae gwefan Port wedi ennill y wobr bedair gwaith gan ennill hefyd yn 1998/1999 ac 1999/2000. Yn ei ddyfarniad dywedodd Dave Collins y Golygydd: "...rwyf eto am edrych i gyfeiriad gwefan ardderchog CPD Porthmadog sydd yn sgorio’n uchel am y cynnwys, diweddaru rheolaidd ac efallai yn fwy na dim am gynllun y wefan. Yn arbennig, fe hoffais fod yna ddigonedd o luniau o’r gemau ac i gyd yn cael eu cyrraedd drwy ddefnyddio’r eicon camera o’r dudalen canlyniadau. Nid yw Port yn newydd i’r wobr hon gan hwy a’i enillodd y llynedd a hefyd yn 1999 a 2000, blynyddoedd cyntaf y wobr. Mae’n glod i’r clwb eu bod wedi cadw i fyny gyda’r arfer gorau wrth gynllunio gwefannau ac wedi dal ati drwy gydol y ddegawd.” Dywedodd un o'r gwefeistri Emyr Gareth, “Mae’n braf derbyn gwobr wrth gylchgrawn sydd wedi cyfrannu cymaint, ar bob lefel, i bêl-droed yng Nghymru. Yn plesio’n arbennig mae’r sylw am gynllun y wefan gan mai ni sydd yn gwneud y cynllunio ein hunain, heb ddibynnu ar gwmni proffesiynol yn y maes.” Ychwanegodd Iwan Gareth, y cyd-wefeistr, “Mae’n bwysig i bob agwedd ar y clwb gael ei adlewyrchu ar y wefan ond mae sicrhau hyn y dibynnu ar dderbyn gwybodaeth am y tîm cyntaf, yr ail dîm a’r academi.” Ymysg y clybiau eraill o Uwch Gynghrair Cymru a ddaeth yn agos i’r brig eleni oedd Caerfyrddin, Port Talbot a TNS. Llongyfarchiadau hefyd i Risca y clwb a ddaeth yn ail a hefyd i CPD Penrhyncoch enillwyr gwobr ‘Y newydd ddyfodiaid gorau’. Cofiwch fod y cylchgrawn ‘Welsh Football’ ar werth yn siop y clwb. This is the time of year when the “Welsh Football Magazine” announces its programme and website awards for the season. We are proud to announce that the main annual award for the best Welsh club site overall for season 2007-08 goes to the CPD Porthmadog website. Regular visitors to the site will be aware that this site was also the winner last season. In fact the Porthmadog site has won the award on four occasions in the past decade, having previously won this highly regarded award in 1998-1999 and 1999-2000. Magazine editor Dave Collins said in his review for 2007/08: “...this year again I’m giving the nod to CPD Porthmadog’s excellent site which scores highly on content, regularity of update and probably most of all design. I particularly like the abundance of match photos accessed from the fixtures /results page via the camera icon. Porthmadog are no strangers to this award having lifted it for its first two years in 1999 and 2000 as well as last year. So it’s a real credit to the club that they have kept pace with the best practice in website design and maintenance over the ensuing decade.” Co-webmaster Emyr Gareth said, “It is pleasing to receive this reward from a magazine which has contributed so much to domestic Welsh football at all levels. Especially pleasing is the comment about website design as we design the website ourselves - unlike many clubs whose sites are designed by dedicated professional companies.” Joint webmaster Iwan Gareth added. “It is important that all sections of the club are reflected on the website but to do this we depend on others to supply all relevant information whether it is about the first team, the reserves or the academy.” Other WPL sites in the running for this year’s award were Carmarthen Town, Port Talbot and TNS. Congratulations also to Risca AFC who are this year’s runners-up and to CPD Penrhyncoch who lifted the ‘best newcomers’ award. Don’t forget that the excellent Welsh Football magazine is available at the Club Shop. 08/06/08 Viv yn ymuno â Llangefni / Viv joins Llangefni Cyhoeddwyd ar wefan Llangefni y bydd Viv Williams, a lwyddodd i arwain Porthmadog i ddiogelwch y tymor yma, yn reolwr cynorthwyol ar y tîm o Fôn y tymor nesaf. Bydd Viv yn ymuno â'r reolwr Gus Williams wrth iddynt geisio dod yn syth yn ôl i fyny i'r Uwchgynghrair ar ôl gorffen yn olaf eleni. Dymunwn y gorau i Viv yn ei swydd newydd. Llangefni's website has announced that Viv Williams, who steered Porthmadog to safety this season, will be their assistant manger next season. Viv joins current manager Gus Williams in Llangefni's bid to bounce straight back after relegation from the Welsh Premier league this year. We wish Viv all the best in his new post. 08/06/08 Gwrthwynebwyr Port yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair / Port’s Opponents in the League Cup Mae Porthmadog wedi clywed mai eu gwrthwynebwyr yn rownd gyntaf Cwpan y Gynghrair fydd Bangor a Chaersws. Mewn grwpiau eraill o ddiddordeb lleol, bydd Caernarfon yn wynebu NEWI Derwyddon Cefn a’r Drenewydd, a gwrthwynebwyr y Rhyl fydd Airbus Brychdyn a’r Trallwng. Bydd y timau’n chwarae yn erbyn ei gilydd ddwywaith, gartref ac oddi cartref. Bydd enillwyr y chwe grwp, a’r ddau dîm gorau sy’n gorffen yn yr ail safle, yn mynd trwodd i rownd yr 8 olaf. Porthmadog have heard that their opponents in the first round of the League Cup will be Bangor and Caersws. In other groups of local interest, Caernarfon face NEWI Cefn Druids and Newtown, and Rhyl’s opponents will be Airbus Broughton and Welshpool. The teams will play each other twice, at home and away. The six group winners, and the two best runners up, will proceed into the quarter finals. 06/06/08 Gwaith ar y Traeth / Work at the Traeth Fisoedd cyn dechrau'r tymor newydd, mae gwaith i wella'r maes ar y Traeth wedi cael ei ddechrau. Mae'r gwaith, fydd yn derbyn grant gan Uwchgynghrair Cymru, yn cynnwys ail-hadu'r holl gae, gosod gwrtaith ac rhoi tua 40 tunell o bridd newydd dros wyneb y cae. Bydd gwaith osod 2 fainc eilyddion newydd - y ddwy ar ochr y stand o'r cae - hefyd yn digwydd yr haf yma, ynghyd a gwaith o wella llwyfan y camerau teledu. Bydd hyn yn cael ei gefnogi gan grant o'r FAW. With months still to go before the start of the new season, work to improve the Traeth pitch has just been started. The work to be completed with a grant from the Welsh Premier League, includes re-seeding the entire pitch, applying fertilizer and spreading some 40 tonnes of top dressing on the pitch. Further work to purchase and erect new dugouts which will both be situated on the grandstand side of the pitch as well as work on the television gantry is in the pipeline for the summer. Again this will be supported by an FAW grant. 05/06/08 Smart yn gadael / Smart makes move Mae Richard Smart wedi gadael Porthmadog i ymuno â Bae Colwyn yn Adran Gyntaf Cynghrair yr Unibond. Ar ôl ymuno o Airbus Brychdyn yr haf diwethaf dechreuodd y chwaraewr amddiffynnol/canol cae 13 gêm i Port y tymor diwethaf, gan ddod ymlaen 14 gwaith fel eilydd. Roedd Smart wedi arwyddo i Leek Town ym mis Chwefror, ond cafodd ei rwystro rhag symud gan reolau ffenestr drosglwyddo Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Richard Smart has left Porthmadog to join Colwyn Bay in Division One of the Unibond League. After joining from Airbus Broughton last summer, the midfielder/defender started 13 games for Port last season, and made 14 further appearances for Port as sub. Smart had signed for Leek Town in February, but the move was blocked by the Welsh Premier League’s transfer window rules. 05/06/08 Whelo yn edrych ymlaen at gymryd yr awenau / Whelo looking forward to the challenge Wrth iddo baratoi at gymryd yr awenau ym Mhorthmadog, mae Paul Whelan, y rheolwr newydd, yn edrych ymlaen at y sialens. Dywedodd wrth yr Herald yn ddiweddar: “Bydd yn dasg anodd ond rwy’n mynd i roi popeth i fewn i’r ymdrech. Bues yn rhy hir yn y Cymru Alliance ac erbyn hyn rwy’n teimlo’i bod hi’n hen bryd camu yn uwch. Fel cyn-chwaraewr i Borthmadog, rwy’n gyfarwydd iawn â sut mae pethau’n gweithio yna ac yn edrych ymlaen. “Mae’n fuan eto ond rwy’n gobeithio cadw y rhan fwyaf o garfan y llynedd ac efallai edrych i ddod ag un neu ddau newydd i fewn, ond cawn weld. “Y bwriad ydy paratoi yn dda yn ystod y cyfnod cyn-dymor a chael y chwaraewyr i gyd yn ffit i wynebu’r sialensiau sydd i ddod.” Paul Whelan, Port’s new manager, is looking forward to the challenge ahead as he prepares to take over the helm at Porthmadog. Speaking recently to the Herald he said: “It’s going to be a hard job but I’ll give it my best shot. I’d been in the Cymru Alliance too long and felt that it was time to make a step-up. I’m an ex-Porthmadog player and know the set-up there and I’m looking forward to the challenge. “It’s early days; I’m hoping to keep most of last season’s squad and might look to bring in one or two others, but it’s too early to say. “The aim is to have a good pre-season and get all the players fit enough first for the challenges ahead.” 05/06/08 Cyn-rheolwr yn cefnogi penodiad Whelo / Ex-manager backs Whelo’s appointment Dywedodd Meilir Owen, cyn-rheolwr Porthmadog a rheolwr mwyaf llwyddiannus y clwb yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru, ei fod wrth ei fodd mai Paul Whelan sydd wedi’i apwyntio’n rheolwr newydd ar CPD Porthmadog. Yn siarad ar y rhaglen ‘Ar y Marc’, Radio Cymru fore Sadwrn ychwanegodd: “Ymhob un clwb mae wedi bod efo, mae o ’di cael llwyddiant. Mae o ’di bod yng Nghemaes ac wedi cael llwyddiant yn fanno ac wedi cael llwyddiant wedyn yn Glantraeth a hynny efo bechgyn lleol o’r ynys a chylch Bangor a ballu. “Gobeithio y caiff o’r un llwyddiant yn Port a, fel cyn-chwaraewr i Port, mae o’n ’nabod y clwb yn dda.” Arweiniodd Meilir Owen clwb Port i’r 9fed safle yn 1992/93, y gorau iddynt gyflawni hyd yma. Fo hefyd a ddaeth â’r bartneriaeth sgorio arbennig, Marc Lloyd Williams a Dave Taylor, at ei gilydd. Meilir Owen, Port’s former manager and the most successful to date in the WPL, welcomed Paul Whelan’s appointment as manager of the club saying that he was delighted with the board’s decision. Speaking on Radio Cymru’s ‘Ar y Marc’ programme he added: “Every club he has been to, he has been successful. He has managed Cemaes and was a success there and he has also been successful with Glantraeth, developing local players from the island and from the Bangor area. “I hope he enjoys the same success at Porthmadog. As a former player he knows the club well.” Meilir Owen led Port to 9th place in the WPL in 1992/93 their best finish to date. He was also responsible for bringing together the record breaking goal scoring partnership of Dave Taylor and marc Lloyd Williams. 26/05/08 Y Cadeirydd yn croesawu apwyntiad Paul Whelan / Chairman welcomes Paul Whelan’s appointment Mae Cadeirydd Clwb Pêl-droed Porthmadog, Phil Jones, wedi croesawu penderfyniad Paul Whelan i dderbyn y swydd o reolwr newydd y clwb i ddilyn Viv Williams a ymddiswyddodd ar ôl sicrhau bodolaeth y Port yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru yn ddiweddar. Cyhoeddwyd penodiad Paul dros y penwythnos ar ôl i'r Bwrdd gyfweld pump ymgeisydd dros gyfnod o bythefnos. Yn ôl Phil Jones "Pan benderfynodd Viv ac Osian roi’r gorau iddi llynedd ar ôl saith mlynedd llwyddiannus wrth y llyw, yn anffodus rhythwyd i wneud penderfyniad a phenodi heb ystyried y darlun ehangach. Yn anffodus arweiniodd hyn at sefyllfa argyfyngus ac oni bai am ymdrechion Viv ag Alan Bickerstaff dros wythnosau olaf y tymor byddem yn wynebu tymor newydd yn y Gynghrair Undebol. Pan benderfynodd Viv na fyddai yn cario ymlaen 'roedd yn bwysig ein bod yn penodi yn fuan ond heb rhuthr y llynedd. Cawsom ein beirniadu i raddau am hyn gyda cryn ddiddordeb yn y pwnc ar ein safle we - diddordeb yr ydym, fel Bwrdd, yn ei groesawu wrth gwrs gan ei fod yn tanlinellu y diddordeb sydd yn y Clwb a'i dynged. Y tro yma 'roeddem am sicrhau y penodiad iawn ac felly penderfynwyd trafod yn ddwfn gyda pob un o'r ymgeiswyr ac fe wnaethpwyd hynny. Nid ydym, felly, yn ymddiheuro am yr oedi cyn gwneud penderfyniad." Aeth Phil ymlaen i ddweud "Rhaid cofio mai Port yw'r unig glwb o Ogledd Cymru yn y Gynghrair Genedlaethol bellach sydd a pholisi pendant o roi cyfle i chwaraewyr Cymreig a Chymraeg- ac gwir yw ein ymdeimlad tuag at Llangefni a geisiodd efelychu y polisi hwn. Nid chwaraewyr yn unig mohoni ond rheolwyr a hyfforddwyr ac mae'n drist gweld rheolwyr ifanc talentog lleol yn cael eu hanwybyddu gan ein prif glybiau. Dylwn nodi bod ein penderfyniad ar reolwr newydd wedi bod yn ornest rhwng dau o'r Gynghrair Undebol - ac rhywsut neu'i gilydd mae'n bwysig bod trefn yn ei le i ddatblygu hyn. Ni fu erioed yn fwriad gan glwb Porthmadog benodi rheolwr neu hyfforddwr a fyddai'n mewnforio llond bws mini o chwaraewyr bob penwythnos! Edrychwn ymlaen yn awr i gyd weithio gyda Paul fel y gallwn symud ymlaen i gyfnod llwyddiannus newydd." Porthmadog FC Chairman Phil Jones has welcomed Paul Whelan's decision to become the Club's new manager to follow Viv Williams who resigned as Caretaker Manager after steering the club clear of relegation after a turbulent season in the Welsh Premier League. Paul's appointment was confirmed recently after an interview process which spanned two weeks and included in-depth interviews with five applicants. According to Chairman Phil Jones "When Viv and Osian decided to call it a day after seven successful years, unfortunately we rushed into a decision last year without considering the more comprehensive picture. As a result this led to a turbulent season which was only salvaged through the efforts of Viv and Alan Bickerstaff - or otherwise we would now be facing life in the Cymru Alliance! When Viv decided to call it a day it was imperative that we move quickly to appoint a new manager, but with far more consideration and thought than last time around. We have been criticised-especially by some contributors to the discussion section of our own web site- for taking our time in making a new appointment but we do not apologise for this as this time around we were looking for somebody who can complement the club's five year business plan which in essence surrounds the development of our Youth Academy as well as our policy of ensuring that the best players in North West Wales are being given the opportunity to perform on the national stage." Phil went on to say "It should be remembered that Port is now the only North Wales based WPL club who has a genuine 'locals' policy -and to this extent we mourn the loss of Llangefni Town who bravely emulated this stance before their relegation. But this does not extend to players only but also managers. We had made a conscious decision that the last thing we wanted was a manager who would ship in mini bus loads of players from outside the area every weekend! Our final decision rested between two managers who had made an impression in the Cymru Alliance - and if Welsh football is to move ahead then new opportunities for managers at this level are also essential. We now look forward to working together with Paul to further develop the Club's plans and aspirations". 26/05/08 Cynlluniau cyffrous ar gyfer yr Academi / Exciting times ahead for the Academy Mae gan y clwb a gynlluniau cyffrous ar y gweill i ddatblygu’r Academi i’w lawn botensial gan fydd hyn yn dod a bendithion tymor hir i’r clwb. Esboniodd y Cadeirydd, Phil Jones, y bydd y cynlluniau yma ar gyfer yr Academi yn cael eu datgelu yn ystod yr wythnosau nesaf. "Eisoes 'rydym wedi dod i gytundeb gyda Chynghrair Llyn ag Eifionydd mai ei timau hwy fydd yn cynrychioli ein Academi y tymor nesaf - 'rydym eisoes mewn cysylltiad a sawl academi arall yng Nghymru a thu hwnt i drefnu gemau ar eu cyfer. Nod y Clwb yw datblygu cynllun pum mlynedd fydd yn rhoi pwyslais ar ddatblygu talentau lleol trwy'r academi gyda'r nod o sicrhau chwaraewyr dawnus ar gyfer ein tîm cyntaf. Braf yw cael cyhoeddi bod tîm arfaethedig o 7 hyfforddwr eisoes wedi ei rwymo i gynorthwyo ein Academi yn ystod y tymor nesaf". The club have revealed that they have new and exciting plans being put in place to revamp the club’s Academy so that its full potential can be released for the long term benefit of the club. The Chairman, Phil Jones, confirmed that there are plans to further cement developments within the Youth Academy, and these would be revealed within the next few weeks. "We have already agreed that we will merge our Academy with the Llyn ac Eifionydd League representative sides and are trying to arrange friendly matches with clubs in Wales and further afield. The Academy is integral to our longer term five year plan as our aim is to develop young talent within south Gwynedd who will ultimately form the basis of our Welsh Premiership side We are proud to announce that we have seven coaches already signed up for our Academy activities over the next season". Gwybodaeth pellach/further information - Phil Jones 07816213188 25/05/08 Whelo ydy’r dyn! / It's Whelo! Mae CPD Porthmadog yn falch o gyhoeddi eu bod wedi apwyntio Paul Whelan, cyn chwaraewr efo'r clwb, i olynu Viv Williams fel rheolwr. Roedd ei enw wedi’i grybwyll fel rheolwr posib’ ers iddo ymddiswyddo fel rheolwr Glantraeth o’r Cymru Alliance. Ond deallwn ei fod wedi penderfynu gadael Glantraeth cyn iddo gael cynnig y swydd yn Porthmadog. Ers tipyn, roedd wedi teimlo’n siomedig nad oedd y clwb o Ynys Môn yn ddigon uchelgeisiol ac felly wedi gwneud y penderfyniad i adael. Teimlad bwrdd Porthmadog ydy eu bod wedi apwyntio rheolwr sydd yn rhannu yr un uchelgais a gyda’r cefndir pêl-droed i barhau gyda pholisi traddodiadol y clwb o roi cyfle i chwaraewyr lleol ar y lefel uchaf o bêl-droed yng Nghymru. Chwaraeodd Whelo 49 o weithiau i Port yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru rhwng 1995 ac 1998 ac yn 1995/96 sgoriodd 15 o goliau o ganol cae mewn 34 gêm. Cynt, roedd yn yr un tîm ym Mangor â Viv Williams ac fe sgoriodd yn Ffeinal Tlws yr FA yn Wembley yn 1984. Hefyd chwaraeodd yn y gemau mawr yn erbyn Atletico Madrid yng Ngwpan enillwyr Cwpanau Ewrop. Mae ganddo record ardderchog fel rheolwr. Ar ôl cyfnod llwyddiannus, er y diffyg adnoddau, yn rheoli Bae Cemaes aeth â Glantraeth i’r ail safle yn y Cymru Alliance yn 2004/05. Y flwyddyn ganlynol, enillodd Glantraeth y gynghrair a’r cwpan. Ymysg y chwaraewyr a ddaeth i amlygrwydd gyda Paul yn Glantraeth mae Ryan a Les Davies a Paul Pritchard, golwr Cei Conna. Disgwylir y bydd y bwrdd yn cyhoeddi staff i gefnogi Paul Whelan yn fuan iawn. Porthmadog FC are pleased to announce that they have appointed former player Paul Whelan to succeed Viv Williams as their manager. His name had been the subject of speculation since he resigned his post at Cymru Alliance club, Glantraeth but we understand that he had made this decision prior to his appointment to the manager’s chair at Porthmadog. He had become disenchanted with Glantraeth’s inability to match his ambitions for the club and had determined to leave the Anglesey club. The Port board feel that they have appointed a manager who matches their ambitions and has the correct managerial background to carry on Port’s traditional policy of giving local players an opportunity to play at the highest level of Welsh domestic football. Whelo made 49 WPL appearances for Port between 1995 and 1998 and scored 15 goals from midfield in 34 appearances in 1995/96. He previously played in the same Bangor City side as former manager Viv Williams, scoring at Wembley in the 1984 FA Trophy final. He also played in the famous European Cup Winners ties against Atletico Madrid. He has an excellent managerial record. After a successful period with Cemaes Bay on limited resources, he took Glantraeth to second place in the Cymru Alliance in 2004/05 and the following season they completed the league and cup double. Amongst the players who came to prominence with Paul at Glantraeth include Ryan and Les Davies and Paul Pritchard the Connah’s Quay keeper. The club expects to announce the new manager’s backroom staff very shortly. 25/05/08 Cystadleuaeth y Bedair Gwlad / Four Nations Tournament Methiant fu ymdrech Cymru i ennill Cystadleuaeth y Bedair Gwlad gan golli’n drwm o 3-0 yn erbyn Lloegr o flaen torf fwyaf y gystadleuaeth o 659. Aeth Lloegr i mewn ar yr hanner gyda dwy gôl o fantais, diolch i goliau gan Andy Burgess (cic o’r smotyn) a Michael Morrison. Sicrhaodd Shaun Harrad fuddugoliaeth Lloegr ar ôl 65 munud. Yn y gêm arall enillodd yr Alban 4-2 yn erbyn Gibraltar, sy’n golygu bod Cymru’n rhannu’r ail safle gyda’u cyd-Geltaiaid. Wales failed in their attempt to win the Four Nations Tournament losing convincingly by 3-0 against England before the tournament’s largest crowd of 659. England led by 2-0 on the interval, thanks to goals by Andy Burgess (penalty) and Michael Morrisson. Shaun Harrad put England’s victory beyond any doubt on 65 minutes. In the other match Scotland won 4-2 against Gibralatar, which means Wales share second spot with their fellow Celts. 23/05/08 Cystadleuaeth y Bedair Gwlad / Four Nations Tournament Gall Cymru ennill Cwpan y Bedair Gwlad drwy guro Lloegr ar y Belle Vue, Rhyl ddydd Sadwrn yn dilyn buddugoliaeth ysgubol o 6-2 yn erbyn Gibraltar neithiwr. Sgoriodd Craig Jones o’r Rhyl dair gôl, ac ychwanegodd cyn chwaraewr Port, Les Davies ddwy arall cyn i gyn chwaraewr Port Talbot, Chad Bond ei gwneud yn chwech ddeg munud cyn y diwedd. Yn y gêm arall, curodd Lloegr yr Alban o 1-0 ar Ffordd Llanelian, Bae Colwyn. Wales can clinch the Four Nations Tournament by beating England on Rhyl’s Belle Vue on Saturday following an emphatic 6-2 win against Gibraltar yesterday night. Rhyl’s Craig Jones scored a hat-trick, and ex-Porthmadog player, Les Davies chipped in with a brace before ex-Port Talbot star, Chad Bond made it six ten minutes from time. In the other match, England beat Scotland 1-0 on Llanelian Road, Colwyn Bay. 22/05/08 Ail Dîm yn ennill Cwpan y Llywydd / Reserves win President’s Cup Porthmadog …3 Bontnewydd … 1 Daeth Bontnewydd yn ôl i’r gêm am ysbaid gyda gôl o ymosodiad sydyn deuddeg munud o’r diwedd. Roedd hyn yn torri’r ddwy gôl o fantais yr oedd Port wedi dal ers yr hanner cyntaf. Ond yn y funud olaf sgoriodd Iwan Williams ei ail gôl o’r gêm yn derbyn pêl dda gan Ceri Roberts ac yn saethu i’r rhwyd o bymtheg llath i roi Port unwaith eto ddwy gôl ar y blaen. Yn yr hanner cyntaf, roedd Port wedi rheoli’r gêm drwy chwarae pêl droed o safon uchel gan fynd ar y blaen ar ôl deuddeg munud pan ergydiodd Iwan Williams croesiad ardderchog Mark Bridge yn uchel i’r rhwyd. Ar ôl hanner awr, dyblwyd mantais Port pan gododd Mathew Hughes wrth y postyn cefn i benio cic gornel Mark Bridge i gornel y rhwyd. Port oedd enillwyr haeddiannol Cwpan y Llywydd am 2007/08 gan dderbyn y tlws gan Lywydd y Gynghrair, Selwyn Griffith. Porthmadog …3 Bontnewydd … 1 Port, who looked comfortable holding a two goal lead at the interval, were given a brief scare when a breakaway 78th minute goal brought Bontnewydd back into the game. The game was settled, however, when Iwan Williams scored his second of the game in the final minute running on to Ceri Roberts’s through ball and firing into the net from 15 yards. Port had dominated the game in the opening half playing some excellent passing football going into the lead in the 12th minute when Iwan Williams raced on to Mark Bridge’s cross field pass and crashed the ball into the roof of the net. The inevitable Matthew Hughes doubled Port’s lead when he rose at the back post to head Mark Bridge’s corner into the net. Port ran out well deserved winners at the end to collect the trophy from league president Selwyn Griffith. 20/05/08 Cystadleuaeth y Bedair Gwlad / Four Nations Tournament Cymru .....1 Yr Alban .....1 Dylai Cymru fod wedi sicrhau buddugoliaeth mewn gêm a wnaethon ei rheoli am gyfnodau hir, yn arbennig yn ystod yr ail hanner. Sgoriodd Graham Evans (Caersws) gôl unigol dda i’w rhoi ar y blaen ar ôl 23’ ond daeth Yr Alban yn ôl cyn yr hanner pan lwyddodd Robbie Ross fynd rhwng y ddau amddiffynnwr canol i benio heibio Wayne Morris. Rheolwyd yr ail hanner gan Gymru ond wedi i Graham Evans a Chris Venables (Trallwng) gael eu heilyddio, collwyd llawer o’r momentwm. Roedd Venables a Craig Jones (Llanelli) wedi cyd chwarae yn arbennig yng nghanol cae Cymru. Sgôr arall y noson oedd: Gibraltar 0-1 Lloegr. Wales .....1 Scotland .....1 This was a game which Wales dominated territorially especially in the second period but failed to turn it to their advantage. Graham Evans (Caersws) scored a fine individual goal after 23’ to put the home side ahead but Scotland, despite being under pressure for long periods, drew level on the stroke of halftime when Robbie Ross got between the two central defenders to head past Wayne Morris. Wales totally dominated the second period but appeared to lose momentum following the withdrawal of Graham Evans and Chris Venables (Welshpool), who had combined well with Craig Jones (Llanelli) in the Welsh midfield. The night's other score was: Gibraltar 0-1 England. 18/05/08 Y chwilio am reolwr yn parhau! / The search for a manager continues! Mae'r chwilio am reolwr newydd i CPD Porthmadog yn parhau! Penderfynodd John ddychwelyd y tymor nesaf i Nefyn, sef ei hen glwb, fel chwaraewr rheolwr y clwb o’r Welsh Alliance, gan ddilyn Jason Jones yn y swydd honno. Felly y gêm holl bwysig yn erbyn Y Rhyl oedd ei gêm olaf yng nghrys Port a ni fedrai fod wedi cael diweddglo mwy cyffrous i’w gyfnod ar Y Traeth. Llwyddodd y pedwar yn y cefn, a fu mor bwysig i lwyddiant y clwb o dan Viv ac Osian, sicrhau na ildiwyd yr un gôl yn y ddwy gêm olaf yng Nghaerfyrddin ac adref yn erbyn Y Rhyl. Disgrifiodd ei gyn reolwr, Viv Williams, allu amddiffynnol John ymysg y gorau yn y gynghrair. Roedd yr holl droeon wnaeth glirio’r bêl oddi ar y llinell yn dyst i’w allu i ddarllen y gêm ac i fod yn y lle iawn ar yr amser iawn. Mae’n chwaraewr dibynadwy sy’n medru defnyddio’r ddwy droed ac er nad yw y talaf o chwaraewyr mae hefyd yn ardderchog yn yr awyr. Yn ystod ei bum tymor Uwch Gynghrair Cymru, dechreuodd 133 o weithiau i Port ac ymddangosodd 5 gwaith fel eilydd. Byddwn yn colli presenoldeb John ar Y Traeth a hefyd ei frwdfrydedd –byth yn roi llai na cant y cant. O’r cychwyn bu’n ffefryn gyda’r cefnogwyr a rwan dymunwn iddo bob llwyddiant gyda Nefyn. John Gwynfor’s departure, which had been rumoured since the end of the season, is now official. He has decided to call it a day at WPL level and will return to his former club Nefyn United as player manager, succeeding Jason Jones in that role with the Welsh Alliance club. The relegation showdown with Rhyl, therefore, proved to be his final appearance in a Port shirt and he could hardly have had a more remarkable finale. The back four, which had been the backbone of a side which had maintained a mid table position under Viv and Osian, came good again to keep vital clean sheets at Carmarthen and home to Rhyl. His former manager Viv Williams rated him at his best to be amongst the best defensive full backs in the WPL. An excellent reader of the game, as the number of last ditch goal line clearances he made bear testimony. A sound reliable two footed defender who despite his stature is excellent in the air. During his five WPL seasons he made 133 starts plus five substitute appearances. John’s presence and enthusiasm will be sadly missed at the Traeth for he never gave less than a 100%. From the time he joined the club, he proved to be a firm favourite with the supporters. We wish him every success at Nefyn. 07/05/08 Port yn dathlu 125 o flynyddoedd! / Port celebrate 125 years! Bydd y clwb yn dathlu ei ben-blwydd yn 125 oed yn ystod 2009 - sefydlwyd y clwb ffurfiol cyntaf yn 1884 er bod hanes o bêl-droed yn cael ei chwarae yn y dref rai blynyddoedd cyn hynny. Y Traeth fu cartref y clwb ers y cychwyn ac mae’r tîm wedi cynrychioli’r dref yn gyson mewn sawl cystadleuaeth a'r unig dro lle nad oedd tîm yn cynrychioli'r Port o gwbl oedd yn ystod tymor 1983/4 - sef ei GANMLWYDDIANT! Felly gan i ni golli'r cyfle hwnnw mae siawns eto yn 2009 i unioni'r cam! Beth am bwyllgor i drefnu’r dathliadau? Chwedl rhywun rhyw dro "Pa sefydliad arall yn y dref sydd wedi chwarae rhan mor bwysig yn rhoi’r dref ar y map yn ddi-dor ers 1884 - a hyd yn oed heddiw yn denu cefnogwyr ledled y byd drwy sylw ar orsafoedd teledu megis Sky?" The Club will be celebrating its 125th. birthday during 2009 - the first 'formal' club was established in 1884 although football was played within the town some years before that. The Traeth has always been its home and football was played without any break until the 1983/4 season - its 100th ANNIVERSARY! - when ironically no team represented Porthmadog in any competition. Having missed that opportunity we now have a chance to make up for this in 2009! What about a spontaneous committee to organise the celebrations? As someone once said "What other organisation within the town has constantly played such an important role in putting Porthmadog on the map - and even today is winning hundreds of new friends and supporters throughout the world because of exposure on TV stations like Sky?" 05/05/08 Ffeinal Cwpan y Llywydd / President’s Cup Final Bydd yr ail dîm yn cyfarfod Bontnewydd yn ffeinal Cwpan y Llywydd nos Iau, 22 Mai gyda’r gic gyntaf am 7 o’r gloch. Sicrhaodd Port eu lle yn y ffeinal drwy guro Caergybi, diolch i goliau gan Matthew Hughes a Geraint Owen. Achoswyd sioc gan Y Bontnewydd yn y gêm gynderfynol arall drwy iddynt guro’r Bermo. Roedd y gêm hon yn dal yn ddi-sgôr wedi’r hanner awr ychwanegol ac aeth y gêm i giciau o’r smotyn a’r Bontnewydd aeth drwodd i’r ffeinal o 6-5. Cefnogwch yr hogiau yn y ffeinal! Porthmadog Reserves will play Bontnewydd at the Traeth in the final of the President’s Cup on Thursday, 22 May with a 7pm kick off. A goal in each half from Matthew Hughes and Geraint Owen at Holyhead secured Port’s place in the final whilst Bontnewydd caused a shock by defeating Barmouth in the other semi-final. With still no goals after playing the extra half-hour the game went to a penalty shoot-out with Bontnewydd going through by 6-5. Support the lads in the final! 05/05/08 Swydd y rheolwr yn cael ei hysbysebu / Manager's post is advertised. Daeth dwy o goliau Port diolch i giciau o’r smotyn, gyda Matthew Hughes yn taro cefn y rhwyd. Ychwanegodd Mathew drydedd i gwblhau hat-tric arall. Talwyd y pwyth yn ôl gan Blaenau cyn ddiwedd y mis gyda buddugoliaeth swmpus o 4-1 ar Y Traeth gan gynnwys gôl arbennig gan Gary Roberts. Ceri Roberts oedd y sgoriwr i Port. Gorffennodd y gêm yn erbyn Llanllyfni, y tîm sy’n arwain y gynghrair, yn gyfartal, tair gôl yr un. Mathew Hughes sgoriodd y tair i Port. Yn ystod y mis, sicrhaodd Port eu lle yn Ffeinal Cwpan y Llywydd drwy guro Caergybi. Daeth y mis i ben gyda buddugoliaeth o 3-0 dros Gaerwen. Ychwanegodd Ceri Roberts ddwy gôl i’r un a sgoriodd Gaerwen i rwyd eu hunain. Mae’r fuddugoliaeth hon yn codi’r clwb i’r ail safle yn y tabl. The reserves started the month with a win over their old rivals Blaenau Ffestiniog by 3-2. Two of the Port goals came from the penalty spot with Matthew Hughes on target on both occasions and adding a third to complete his hat-trick. Blaenau however took their revenge later in the month with a resounding 4-1 win over Port at the Traeth. Ceri Roberts was the scorer for Port while the Blaenau goals included a scorcher from Gary Roberts. The game against league leaders Llanllyfni ended all square 3-3 with Matthew Hughes again on target scoring all three. The month also saw Port qualify for a place in the final of the president’s Cup with a win at Holyhead. They ended the month in second spot in the table thanks to a 3-0 win over Gaerwen. Ceri Roberts added to the own goal, which came after 15 minutes, with a further two goals, one in each half. |
