25/09/09 Cwpan Ieuenctid yn y Bala i ffwrdd / Youth Cup tie in Bala off Ni fydd y gêm yng Nghwpan Ieuenctid Cymru rhwng Bala a Phorthmadog yn cael ei chwarae ar ddydd Sul, 27 Medi ac mae gwefan swyddogol y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed yn datgan “Bydd CPD Porthmadog yn cael mynediad i’r rownd nesaf am fod Bala wedi tynnu allan o’r gystadleuaeth”. Mae Bala wedi gwneud datganiad am y mater gan ddweud fod y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed wedi penderfynu fod “.. pob un o’n chwaraewr Academi yn anghymwys ar gyfer y gystadleuaeth os na wnawn drosglwyddo o’u clybiau ieuenctid arferol ddydd Sadwrn, a chofrestru gyda Bala ar ffurflenni cofrestru chwaraewyr hyn y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed.” The FAW Youth Cup tie at Bala between the home club and Porthmadog on Sunday, 27 September will not now take place and the FAW official website states that “Porthmadog FC will receive a bye into the next round through the withdrawal of Bala Town FC.” Bala issued a statement stating that an FAW ruling “rules all of our Academy players ineligible for this competition unless they transfer from regular Saturday football with their youth football clubs to register with Bala Town on FAW senior registration forms.” 25/09/09 Blerwch y ffenestr drosglwyddo / Transfer window shambles Mae effaith yr hyn a ddisgrifir gan ysgrifennydd Porthmadog, Gerallt Owen, fel “... penderfyniad bisâr y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed i ganiatáu pob cynghrair is na UGC i arwyddo a throsglwyddo chwaraewyr” yn dechrau brathu. Dywed y clwb fod clybiau o’r Cymru Alliance wedi rhoi rhybuddion 7 niwrnod am ddau o’n chwaraewyr. “Gobeithio na fydd neb yn cael ei demtio i symud,” ychwanegodd Gerallt Owen. Mae penderfyniad y gymdeithas Bêl-droed wedi creu sefyllfa lle mae “... chwaraewyr yn medru symud i Loegr, neu i gynghreiriau eraill yng Nghymru, ond fedrwn ni arwyddo neb -oni bai eu bod heb glwb o gwbl- tan Ionawr. Collodd Bala Jason Astbury, a arwyddwyd yn yr haf i fod yn golwr wrth gefn, i glwb New Mills yn Lloegr. Y penwythnos diwethaf bu’n rhaid i Port Talbot arwyddo Tony Pennock, golwr heb glwb, ar gyfer gêm gynghrair bwysig yn erbyn Aberystwyth. Beth fyddai’r sefyllfa os na fyddai golwr mor brofiadol ar gael? Rhaid dibynnu wedyn ar chwaraewyr o’r tîm ieuenctid. Yn barod, ar ddau achlysur y tymor hwn, bu’n rhaid i Gei Conna ddefnyddio un o’u chwaraewyr allan yn y gôl. Ym marn y wefan hon mae’r sefyllfa yn cael yr effaith fwyaf ar glybiau sydd yn ceisio datblygu chwaraewyr lleol, ifanc o Gymru –un o amcanion gwreiddiol y gynghrair- gan fod y chwaraewyr yma yn fwy tebygol o symud i’r Cymru Alliance. Daw wedyn yn amhosib adeiladu carfan sydd yn ddigon niferus a phrofiadol i wrthsefyll anafiadau a gwaharddiadau. Mae clybiau’r Cymru Alliance yn llai tebygol o arwyddo chwaraewyr o dros y ffin. Dywed y rheolwr Tomi Morgan “Mae pob penderfyniad a wnaed wedi ffafrio’r clybiau sydd yn ceisio am ddyrchafiad.” Mae’n dweud, hefyd, fod ceisio dilyn yr un drefn ym mhob prif Gynghrair Ewropeaidd “... wedi arwain at ddim byd llai na blerwch llwyr wrth i’r awdurdodau geisio trefnu’r gynghrair yn yr un modd ac Uwch Gynghrair Lloegr er ein bod ni yng Nghymru filiwn o filltiroedd i ffwrdd o hynny, na sori biliwn ddylai hynny fod!!” The effect of what Gerallt Owen, Porthmadog secretary described as “… the bizarre decision of the FAW to allow all leagues below the WPL to sign and transfer players” is beginning to kick in. Porthmadog report that 7 day notices have been put in for two of their players by Cymru Alliance clubs. “Hopefully nobody will be tempted to move”, added Gerallt Owen. The FAW’s decision has created a situation, he says, where “… players can move to England and to other leagues in Wales but we cannot sign anybody -unless he is unattached- until January.” Bala Town have lost Jason Astbury, signed in the summer as goalkeeping cover, to English club New Mills. Last weekend Port Talbot were forced to signed unattached former keeper Tony Pennock for an important league encounter with Aberystwyth. What would have happened had not such an experienced keeper been available? Clubs would then have to rely on youth players. Already on two occasions this season Connah’s Quay have had to use an outfield player in goal. In the view of this website the situation has its most detrimental effect on clubs who try to develop local Welsh players -supposedly one of the aims of the league- because they are the most likely to defect to Cymru Alliance clubs. It then becomes impossible to build a squad sufficient in number to counter injuries and suspensions. Cymru Alliance clubs are less likely to sign English-based players. Manager Tomi Morgan says, “All the dice have been loaded in favour of clubs attempting to get promotion.” He also sees the one size fits all European Leagues as “nothing short of a shambles, we are attempting to run the league on the same terms as the Premiership and we are a million miles away, sorry a billion miles away from that!!” 24/09/09 Rhagolwg: v Y Rhyl / Preview: v Rhyl Mae’r Rhyl wedi cychwyn y tymor ar garlam sydd yn eu gwneud yn wrthwynebwyr anodd tu hwnt. Maent heb golli gêm eto y tymor hwn gan ennill 5 o’u chwe gêm. Ar y llaw arall mae Port ar waelod y tabl ac yn dal i chwilio am y fuddugoliaeth gyntaf yn y gynghrair y tymor hwn. Er hynny bydd y fuddugoliaeth dros Cei Conna, yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair yng nghanol wythnos, yn codi calon, a bydd y tîm yn gobeithio cynnal y gwelliant hwn yn y gêm ddydd Sadwrn. Mae hanes yn dangos fod Port wedi llwyddo i godi eu gêm ar ambell achlysur yn erbyn y Rhyl gan greu sioc. Esiampl o hyn oedd y fuddugoliaeth yn y gêm dyngedfennol ar ddiwedd 2007/08. Mae’n ddiddorol nodi, er y gagendor mewn llwyddiant rhwng y ddau glwb, mai dim ond un gôl oedd yn gwahanu’r ddau glwb mewn 5 o’r 8 gêm ddiwethaf. Bydd angen y math yna o ysbryd wrth ymweld â’r Belle Vue ddydd Sadwrn. Yn 2003/04 cafwyd y golled fwyaf yn erbyn y Rhyl a hynny o 6-1. Ond gall Port hefyd frolio buddugoliaeth fawr a hynny o 6-0 yn ôl yn 1996. Sgôr na welwn ei ail adrodd ddydd Sadwrn -ond byddai 1-0 yn dderbyniol iawn! Na ildiwn! Ewch i i roi bet ar Rhyl v Porthmadog. Rhyl have started this season in top gear making them once again the league’s most difficult opponents. They are unbeaten this season having won 5 of their 6 games. Port on the other hand, are at the opposite end of the table and still searching for their first league win of the season. But they will take heart from a convincing 4-0 League Cup win over Connah’s Quay in midweek and hope to carry this improvement into Saturday’s encounter. History shows that Port have, on occasions, raised their game against Rhyl and produced a shock, none more so than the survival win in the last game of the 2007/08 season. Interesting to note that, despite the gulf between the two teams in terms of success, only a single goal has separated them in 5 of their last 8 league encounters. That kind of spirit will be needed for Saturday’s visit to the Belle Vue. The heaviest defeat suffered by Port at that ground came in season 2003/04 when they were beaten by 6-1 margin. Port can also boast a big win which came in 1996 with Rhyl going down by 6 clear goals. This is not likely to be repeated on Saturday but 1-0 would be fine! No surrender! Visit to place a bet on Rhyl v Porthmadog. 23/09/09 Gwobr o £700 yn mynd nos Wener / £700 tote to go on Friday Bydd y tote misol yn cael ei dynnu nos Wener (25 Medi). Nid oedd yna enillwyr am y mis diwethaf, felly bydd y wobr yn cael ei gario drosodd i’r mis yma. Disgwylir iddo fod werth tua £700. Gwerth chweil felly! Mae amlenni ar gael wrth y swyddogion a byddant ar werth cyn cychwyn y Bingo Nos Wener. The monthly tote will be drawn on Friday evening (25 September). There were no winners last month so the rollover prize will be worth about £700. Well worth a shot! Envelopes are available from club officials and will be on sale prior to the Friday Bingo Night. 23/09/09 Dymuniadau gorau Eddie / Best wishes Eddie Roedd yn ddrwg gennym glywed fod Eddie Blackburn, gweinyddwr gweithgar yr Academi, wedi’i ruthro i’r ysbyty ddydd Iau diwethaf gyda poenau stumog. Bu yn Ysbyty Gwynedd dros y penwythnos tra fod profion yn cael eu gwneud. Y gobaith yw y bydd yn dychwelyd adref yn ystod yr wythnos hon. Gwellhad buan iti Eddie ac edrychwn ymlaen i dy weld yn ôl ar y Traeth fel arfer. Gobeithio fod y fuddugoliaeth dros Cei Conna wedi dod â thonig amserol iti. We were sorry to hear that the hard working Academy Administrator, Eddie Blackburn, was rushed to hospital last Thursday with severe abdominal pains. He remained at Ysbyty Gwynedd over the weekend as tests were carried out. It is hoped that he will be allowed home during this week. We all wish you a speedy recovery Eddie, and look forward to seeing you at the Traeth again very soon. We hope that the victory over Connah’s Quay provided a timely tonic. 20/09/09 Gemau Academi wedi gohirio / Today’s Academy games off Unwaith eto bu’n rhaid gohirio gemau Academi. Cafodd y gemau ar gyfer heddiw (20 Medi) eu gohirio oherwydd fod cynhadledd hyfforddwyr i’w gynnal yng Ngholeg Glannau Dyfrdwy ar yr un diwrnod. Ar nodyn cadarnhaol chwaraewyd gêm gyfeillgar Dan-16 ar y Traeth nos Fawrth yn erbyn Bethel. Y sgôr terfynol oedd 3-3. Roedd yn ymarfer da iawn i’r hogiau ac i’r hyfforddwyr!! Once again Academy Games have been postponed. Games scheduled for 20 September have been cancelled due to a Welsh Football Trust Coaches' Conference being held on the same date at Deeside College. On a happier note the friendly with Bethel at U16 level was played on the Traeth on Tuesday evening. Final result was 3 -3 in a very entertaining game and useful run out for the lads (and the coaches!!). 20/09/09 Mel Jones yn gadael / Mel Jones leaves Cadarnhawyd y sibrydion fod Mel Jones wedi gadael Port i fod yn is-reolwr i Derek Roberts yng Nghaernarfon yn dilyn ymadawiad diweddar David Rowe fel rheolwr y clwb hwnnw. Daeth Mel i’r Traeth fel is-reolwr ar ddechrau teyrnasiad Paul Whelan yn 2008/09 ar ôl treulio’r rhan fwyaf o’i yrfa fel rhan o’r staff hyfforddi ar Ffordd Farrar, gan dreulio cyfnod byr fel rheolwr dros dro ym Mangor. Roedd Mel eisoes wedi penderfynu lleihau ei ddyletswyddau ar y Traeth, gan ymddiswyddo fel Cyd-gysylltydd Academi’r clwb, gyda’r hyfforddwr newydd Terry Boyle yn cymryd ei le. Diolchwn yn fawr iddo, yn enwedig am ei waith caled a sicrhaodd lwyddiant ardderchog yr Academi y tymor diwethaf, a dymunwn yn dda iddo ar gyfer y dyfodol. It has been confirmed that Mel Jones has left Port to be Derek Roberts’ assistant manager at Caernarfon Town, following the recent departure of David Rowe as manager of the Canaries. Mel came to the Traeth at the start of Paul Whelan’s reign in 2008/09 after spending the majority of his career on the coaching staff art Farrar Road, having a short spell as Bangor’s caretaker manager. Mel had already taken the decision to reduce his duties at the Traeth, standing down as Co-ordinator of the club’s Academy, with new coach Terry Boyle taking his place. We thank him, in particular for his hard work that secured the excellent success of the Academy last season, and we wish him well for the future. 17/09/09 Rhagolwg: v Llanelli / Preview: v Llanelli Nid oes arwydd fod y dyddiau anodd ar ddarfod gyda Llanelli yn ymweld ddydd Sul ac i ddilyn mae ymweliad Port â’r Rhyl ac wedyn i gwblhau’r hat-tric o dimau mawr bydd TNS yn dod i’r Traeth. Diolch o galon Mr. D! Pan fyddwch yn chwilio am y fuddugoliaeth gyntaf o’r tymor nid ymweliad gan dîm Andy Legg fyddech chi’n dymuno. Mae eu cryfderau yn amlwg i bob cefnogwr. Nid yw sgiliau Rhys Griffiths o flaen y gôl yn lleihau o gwbl a bellach mae Craig Moses wedi cyrraedd dros yr haf i ychwanegu at y pwer hwnnw. Newydd ddyfodiad arall sydd yn creu argraff ydy Owen Warlow a ymunodd â’r cochion o ddinas Lincoln. Mae hyn i gyd, yn ogystal â phrofiad Jason Bowen a Steve Jenkins a tafliadau enfawr y rheolwr Andy Legg, yn awgrymu y bydd yn brynhawn Sul prysur i Borthmadog. Os ydy Port am weld llygedyn o obaith mae hwnnw i’w weld yn eu gallu, ar dro, i roi sioc i’r timau cryfaf. Y tymor diwethaf roedd yn rhyddhad i Lanelli a TNS i adael y Traeth gyda phwynt ar ôl dod yn ail orau dros y 90 munud. Bydd Rhyl hefyd yn cofio’r frwydr fawr wrth i Port eu curo o 1-0 yng ngem olaf 2007/08. Os oes yna sioc i fod ddydd Sul bydd rhaid i Borthmadog anghofio’r perfformiad hanner cyntaf yn Plas Kynaston a dod o hyd i ffordd well o rhyddhau Chris Jones, Marc Evans a Mike Thompson tri o chwaraewyr cyflym, peryglus. Gobeithio bydd presenoldeb sêr y gorffennol, yno i dathlu 125 mlynedd o bêl-droed ar y Traeth, yn ysbrydoli’r tîm presennol i godi’u gem. Ewch i i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Llanelli. The difficult times get no easier on Sunday with the visit of Llanelli followed by a visit to Rhyl and when that’s done we go on to complete a hat trick of games against last season’s top three, as TNS are the next visitors to the Traeth. Thanks a million Mr D! When you are looking for your first win of the season a visit from Andy Legg’s team is not to be wished for. Their strengths are well known to all supporters. The goal scoring skills of Rhys Griffiths show no signs of diminishing and over the summer Craig Moses has arrived to supplement Llanelli’s goal power. Another newcomer creating an impression is Owen Warlow a summer signing from Lincoln City. All this and the experience of Jason Bowen and Steve Jenkins and the massive throws of manager Andy Legg all point to a busy day for Porthmadog. If Port want to look on the bright side it lies in their occasional ability to surprise even the strongest sides. Both Llanelli and TNS were extremely relieved to make a quiet retreat from the Traeth last season with a single point after they had been second best over the 90 minutes. Rhyl will also recall Port’s ability to rise to the occasion when they went down 1-0 at the Traeth in that vital last game of the 2007/08 season. But if there is to be a surprise on Sunday Port will have to forget the first half blues against Cefn Druids and find a way of releasing quick men Chris Jones, Marc Evans and Mike Thompson with a vastly improved service. Let’s hope the presence of Port stars of the past, celebrating 125 years of football at the Traeth, will inspire the present team to raise their game. Visit to place a bet on Porthmadog v Llanelli. 17/09/09 Sêl Cist Car i barhau tan fis Tachwedd / Car Boot Sale to continue into November Yn dilyn sawl ymholiad cyhoeddwyd y bydd y sêl cist car a gynhelir ar fore Sul yn y Traeth yn parhau hyd at 1 Tachwedd. Tymor digon simsan a gafwyd hyd yn hyn gyda chychwyn da ond effeithiwyd ar amryw o Suliau yn ystod misoedd Gorffennaf ac Awst, gan gynnwys Gwyl y Banc, gan y tywydd anffafriol. Mae'r sêl cist car yn cyfrannu swm anrhydeddus i gronfeydd y clwb yn flynyddol. In response to several enquiries the club has announced that the Sunday morning car boot sale at the Traeth will continue until the 1st. of November. It has been a mixed season for this very valuable contributor to the club's finances with a perfect start in the spring but some disappointing Sundays during July and August when three events, including the Bank Holiday weekend, were lost to bad weather. Os am sicrhau tocyn ac i osgoi siom ffoniwch Gerallt ar 07920025338 neu 01766 514687. With tickets for this Saturday's (19 Sept) Tebot Piws concert at the clubhouse having sold out literally within hours of being put on sale, the club has announced that tickets for the Dafydd Iwan and Band concert on Saturday 24 October will be available this weekend for £10 each. To avoid disappointment and secure a ticket telephone Gerallt on 07920025338 or 01766 514687. 15/09/09 Mike yn cyrraedd carreg filltir arall / Mike Foster reaches another milestone Er ei bod hi’n noson i’w anghofio i glwb Porthmadog yr ymweliad â Phlas Kynaston nos Wener oedd y 349 fed tro i Mike Foster wisgo crys Porthmadog mewn gêm UGC. Hyn yn golygu y bydd yn cyrraedd y garreg filltir nodedig o 350 o gemau cynghrair i’w glwb cartref ddydd Sul yn erbyn Llanelli. Bydd yn addas iawn ei fod yn cyrraedd y nod yma ar y diwrnod pan fod y clwb yn dathlu 125 o flynyddoedd o bêl-droed ym Mhorthmadog gydag aduniad o gyn chwaraewyr. Ar ddechrau’r tymor roedd yn ymddangos fod amser Mike gyda Port drosodd pan ymunodd gyda Hotspyrs Caergybi ond byr fu ei arhosiad gyda chlwb yr Ynys a bellach mae wedi cychwyn ei 12fed dymor yn UGC yn y coch a du -gyrfa a gychwynnodd yn nhymor cyntaf Cynghrair Cymru. Though it was not a game to remember for Porthmadog the league game at Plas Kynaston marked Mike Foster’s 349th WPL game for his hometown club which means that all being well he will reach the remarkable milestone of 350 games in a Porthmadog shirt in Sunday’s game against Llanelli. It will be appropriate that he reaches this landmark on the day when 125 years of Porthmadog football is celebrated with a reunion of former players. At the start of the season it appeared that his Porthmadog days were over when he signed for Holyhead Hotspurs but his stay at the Anglesey club proved a short one and he is now in his 12th WPL season for Porthmadog. It is a career which started in the first League of Wales season back in 1993/4. 14/09/09 Port i chwarae Penrhyncoch yn Cwpan Cymru / Port have drawn Penrhyncoch in the 2nd Round Pan ddaeth yr enwau allan o’r het ar gyfer Ail Rownd Cwpan Cymru tynnwyd Porthmadog i wynebu Penrhyncoch, un o geffylau blaen y Cymru Alliance eleni. Mae'r clwb o ardal Aberystwyth wedi cael dechrau gwych i'r tymor - maent yn ail yn eu cynghrair ar y funud ac yn ddi-guro - wedi ennill 5 o'u 6 gêm gyntaf. Caiff y gemau eu chwarae ar ddydd Sadwrn, Hydref 3ydd. Taith fer felly i Tomi Morgan ac ymweliad a’u hen glwb i Richard Morgan a Mark Gornall. Un o flaenwyr Penrhyncoch ydy cyn chwaraewr Port, sef Mark Cook. Daeth gemau eraill diddorol allan o’r het gan gynnwys ymweliad y Rhyl â Llanfairpwll tra fydd Pwllheli yn ymweld â Chei Conna a gwobr Conwy am gyrraedd yr ail rownd ydy ymweliad gan TNS. Bydd Bangor, deiliaid y Gwpan, yn croesawu Derwyddon Cefn wrth gychwyn eu hymgais i ddal eu gafael yn y tlws. The second round draw for the Welsh Cup was made on Sgorio tonight and when the names came out of the hat Porthmadog were drawn to visit Cymru Alliance pacesetters Penrhyncoch. The club from the Aberystwyth area have had a fantastic start to their season - they are currently second in their league, with an unbeaten record - they have won 5 of their first 6 games. The games will be played on Saturday October 3rd. It means a short journey for manager Tomi Morgan and for Richard Morgan and Mark Gornall a return to their former club. Featuring for the mid–Wales club this season has been former Port forward Mark Cook. Other interesting games to come out of tonight’s draw include champions Rhyl visiting Llanfairpwll while Pwllheli face a journey to Connah’s Quay and Conwy United’s reward for reaching the 2nd round is a visit from TNS. The Cup holders Bangor will begin their defence of the trophy at home to Cefn Druids. 12/09/09 Gêm Academi yfory FFWRDD / Tomorrow’s Academy game OFF Bu’n rhaid gohirio’r gemau Academi oedd wedi’u trefnu ar gyfer ddydd Sul (yfory). Derbyniwyd y datganiad yma gan weinyddwr yr Academi, Eddie Blackburn: “Oherwydd amgylchiadau tu hwnt i’n rheolaeth bu’n rhaid gohirio gemau’r penwythnos yn erbyn Caersws. Adrefnwyd y gemau yma ar gyfer ddydd Sul, 27 Medi. Mae Gwyn Ellis wedi symud yn gyflym i drefnu gêm yn erbyn Bethel i’r tîm Dan 16. Bydd y gem hon yn cael ei chwarae nos Fawrth 16 Medi yn y Clwb Chwaraeon gyda’r gic gyntaf am 6 pm. Disgwylir i’r gemau yn erbyn y Rhyl ar 20 Medi a’r Trallwng ar 4 Hydref gael eu cadarnhau yn fuan” The Academy fixtures against Caersws scheduled for this Sunday have been called off. The following statement has been received from Academy Administrator, Eddie Blackburn: “Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control this weekend's fixtures against Caersws have had to be called off. They will now be played on Sunday 27 September. Gwyn Ellis has moved swiftly to arrange a friendly game for his U16 squad against Bethel which will be played at Clwb Chwaraeon on Tuesday 15 September, KO 6pm. The scheduled home games against Rhyl on 20th.September and Welshpool (4 October) are in process of being confirmed and should go ahead as planned.” 10/09/09 Port yn apwyntio Cyd-Gysylltydd Trwyddedu / Port appoint Licensing Co-ordinator Gyda’r drws wedi cau ar geisiadau, mae’r ras am y Drwydded Domestig bellach wedi cychwyn gyda 24 o geffylau yn y ras. Adroddwyd o’r blaen fod Port wedi gwneud rhestr fanwl o’r gwaith sydd ar ôl, gwaith fydd rhaid eu gwblhau cyn cyrraedd y terfyn yn Ebrill 2010. Mae’r clwb wedi cymryd cam arall ymlaen wrth wneud apwyntiad pwysig, sef apwyntio Angela Roberts yn Gyd-gysylltydd Trwydded Ddomestig. Cynt bu Angela yn weinyddwr Academi’r clwb a bydd rwan yn anelu at sicrhau fod y clwb yn cyrraedd y criteria a osodir yn y Drwydded. Mae’r clwb yn ceisio prisiau ar gyfer y gwaith sydd i’w wneud, a bydd y gwaith hwn yn cychwyn unwaith fod y grantiau wedi’u derbyn. Mae’r clwb yn croesawu Angela, gan addo pob cefnogaeth iddi gyda’r tasgau pwysig yma. With the door closed to further applications, the race for the Domestic Licence is now on and the 24 starters have been confirmed. As previously reported Port have made a detailed inventory of the work needed to be completed before the finishing post is reached in April 2010. They have now taken the next step and made a vital appointment, that of Angela Roberts to the post of Club Licensing Co-ordinator. She has previously held the post of Academy administrator at the club and will now commence the task of ensuring that the club achieves the Licensing criteria. Quotes are now being sought for infrastructure work and this will start as soon as grants have been obtained. The club welcomes Angela on board and promises the fullest co-operation with the tasks which lie ahead. 10/09/09 Rhagolwg: v Derwyddon Cefn / Preview: v Cefn Druids Nos Wener bydd Port yn ymweld â Plas Kynaston yn awyddus i wneud yn iawn am berfformiad siomedig ar y Traeth ddydd Sadwrn. Nid yw Plas Kynaston wedi bod yn gae llwyddiannus iawn dros y blynyddoedd ond cafwyd buddugoliaeth llynedd a tri phwynt gwerthfawr. Nid yw’r un o’r ddau dîm wedi sicrhau buddugoliaeth gynghrair eto eleni er fod Port wedi codi tri phwynt diolch i dair gêm gyfartal. Mae’r Derwyddon yn dal heb yr un pwynt ond mae’n werth nodi eu bod ond wedi colli o un gôl yn unig yn erbyn timau cryf Port Talbot a Bangor. Ers llynedd mae Josh Johnson, gynt o’r Rhyl, wedi ymuno a hefyd Gary Penlington o’r Bala.Ond ar y llaw arall mae dau chwaraewr allweddol wedi ymadael -Ricky Evans a Mark Powell. Bydd angen i Port ail afael yn y math o berfformiad a gafwyd yn erbyn y Bala a Chaersws os ydynt am sicrhau buddugoliaeth. Gobeithio fydd y capten Ryan Davies yn ôl. Hefyd bydd Aden Shannon –ar y fainc ddydd Sadwrn- ar gael ar ôl gorffen ei waharddiad o 4 gêm ac yn barod i herio Cefn, ei gyn clwb, a lle y gwnaeth argraff fawr fel sgoriwr cyson. On Friday Port visit Plas Kynaston, keen to make amends for a poor performance at the Traeth last Saturday. The ground has not always been a happy hunting ground for them, though last season they did pick up three valuable points. Neither side has recorded a league victory to date though Port have picked up three points from three draws. The Druids remain pointless, though it is worth noting that the home defeats against strong Port Talbot and Bangor teams were only by a single goal. Their main acquisition over the summer was that of speedy winger Josh Johnson, with Rhyl last season, and they have also signed striker Gary Penlington from Bala. But on the other hand they have lost experienced players in Ricky Evans and Mark Powell. Port will need to regain some of the form shown against Bala and Caersws if they are to record their first win. They will hope to have skipper Ryan Davies back to fitness and Aden Shannon now free of a four match suspension -and on the bench last Saturday- will be available to play against a club for whom he made such a mark when he first appeared in the WPL. 08/09/09 Newyddion y Lotri a'r Tote / Weekly Draw and Tote news Tynnwyd y Tote Misol ar gyfer mis Awst yn ystod y bingo yn Y Ganolfan ar nos Wener, 4 Medi. Y rhifau buddugol oedd 1 a 25. Nid oes unrhyw enillwyr gennym hyd yn hyn, ond os ydych eisiau hawlio'r wobr, rhaid i chi wneud hynny erbyn 8.00pm ar nos Wener 11 Medi. Mae hyn yn golygu y bydd y wobr o £330 yn cael ei chario drosodd i Tote mis Medi a fydd yn cael ei dynnu ar 25 Medi. Enillwyr diweddaraf y wobr o £100 yn Wythnosau 35 a 36 Lotri Wythnosol Clwb Pêl-droed Porthmadog oedd Michael John Williams o Benrhyndeudraeth a Vera Gray o Flaenau Ffestiniog. Ffurflen Gais / Application Form | Mandad Archeb Sefydlog / Standing Order Mandate The draw for the Porthmadog Football Social Club August Tote took place at Y Ganolfan on Friday 4th September. The numbers drawn were 1 and 25. Subject to verification, there are no winning entries. Any claims should be made before 8.00pm on Friday 11th September. There is an open invitation to anyone who has ever worn the red and black shirt. Already a strong contingent of the team which represented the club in the mid 1970’s has confirmed its acceptance of the invitation. This team, led by manager Johnny Williams, was the most successful ever in the club’s history winning several trophies over a five year period. The event starts at 11.30am on the Sunday, includes a light buffet lunch and then an opportunity to meet old friends and team-mates. At 2.30pm the current squad meets full timers Llanelli in the Welsh Premiership. Yn ysgrifennu yn y rhaglen ar gyfer ddydd Sadwrn dywedodd, “Caeodd y ffenestr drosglwyddo ddydd Llun (31 Awst) ond i bob pwrpas fe gaeodd 6 niwrnod ynghynt gan ein bod yn dal i orfod rhoi 7-niwrnod o rybudd.” Mae’n galw am newid gan ddweud “Mae’r rheol 7-niwrnod ar ôl yr oes erbyn hyn ac yn y bin sbwriel mae ei lle.” “Dylai unrhyw gais gael ei wneud rhwng rheolwyr a’u gilydd, neu drwy’r cadeirydd. Byddai hyn yn arbed llawer o drafferthion ac yn sicrhau ein bod yn gweithredu yr un fath a phrif gynghreiriau eraill.” “Rwy’n ei chael yn rhwystredig iawn fod hi’n bosib i chwaraewyr adael UGC i gynghrair is ... tra ein bod ni yn gorfod aros tan Ionawr cyn arwyddo neb.” Tomi Morgan has expressed his frustration at what he calls the ‘antiquated’ 7-day notice of approach rule, and calls for it to come to an end. Writing his ‘View from the Bench’ in Saturday’s match programme he says, “The transfer window closed last Monday (31 August) but to all intents and purposes it had closed six days earlier as we are still having to apply the 7-day notice of approach.” He calls for change saying, “The 7-day notice of approach rule to me is antiquated and needs to be binned.” “Any approach” he says “should be done on a manager to manager basis or via the chairman. This would save a lot of hassle and bring us into line with other major leagues.” “I find it very frustrating”, he adds, “that players can leave the WPL for a lower league … yet we can’t now sign anyone until January.” 06/09/09 Tymor yr Academi yn cychwyn / Academy season begins Dydd Sul, 13 Medi, bydd tymor yr Academi yn cychwyn gydag ymweliad â Chaersws. Wedyn y Sul canlynol bydd y tri grwp oed, Dan-12, Dan-14 a Dan-16, yn chwarae eu gemau cyntaf adref yn y Clwb Chwaraeon gyda’r gic gyntaf am 11 am. Rhowch y dyddiad 20 Medi yn eich dyddiadur a dewch i gefnogi’r hogiau. Next Sunday, 13 September, the Academy season begins with a trip to Caersws. Then on the following Sunday there is a date for your diary, with the Academy playing their first home games of the season on the 20 September. All three age group teams will be in action, U-12, U-14, and U-16, at Clwb Chwaraeon with a 11 am kick off. Come along and support the youngsters. 04/09/09 Apwyntio Terry Boyle / Terry Boyle is appointed Mae’r Ymddiriedolaeth Bêl-droed wedi apwyntio Terry Boyle, hyfforddwr y tîm cyntaf yn Gyd-gysylltydd yr Academi ar gyfer tymor 2009/10. “Mae hyn yn newyddion da,” meddai Eddie Blackburn, Gweinyddwr Academi Port, “gan fydd yn golygu fod Terry yn ymwneud ac Addysg a Mentora ein Hyfforddwyr yn yr Academi a bydd hyn yn arwain at wella safonau. Mae Terry yn Brif Gyd-gysylltydd gyda’r Ymddiriedolaeth. Ychwanegodd Eddie, “Bydd Terry hefyd yn ymwneud â datblygiad y chwaraewyr a fydd hyn yn gymorth i’r Academi ac hefyd i’r tîm cyntaf”. Porthmadog FC's 1st. team coach, Terry Boyle, has been appointed -by the Welsh Football Trust- to be the Academy Co-ordinator for season 2009/2010. Eddie Blackburn Academy Administrator, said “This is good news for the Academy as it means that Terry, who is Senior Coaching Co-ordinator for the Trust, will be involved in the Education and Mentoring of our Academy Coaches which can only lead to improved standards. Eddie added, “He will also be involved in player development which again should benefit both us and the 1st. team.” 04/09/09 Rhagolwg: v Castell Nedd / Preview: v Neath Athletic Gêm rhwng dau o’r saith clwb sydd heb fuddugoliaeth i’w henw fydd ar y Traeth ddydd Sadwrn. Cyfartal fu tair gêm Port tra fod Castell Nedd wedi colli unwaith a’r ddwy arall yn gyfartal. Mae’n gynnar iawn yn y tymor ond mae hanes o blaid Castell Nedd a enillodd y bedair gêm UGC a chwaraewyd hyd yma rhwng y ddau glwb. Bydd Castell Nedd yn teimlo dan dipyn o bwysau ar ôl gwario mawr yr haf gyda sawl sylwebydd yn eu henwi yn glwb a fedrai dorri fewn i’r 3 neu 4 uchaf yn y tabl. Yr ymosodwr Chris Llewelyn a’r golwr Anthony Williams, y ddau yn gyn chwaraewyr gyda Wrecsam, ydy’r ‘enwau mawr’ mae’r rheolwr Andrew Dyer wedi arwyddo. Hefyd ychwanegodd dau chwaraewr arall cyn i’r ffenest drosglwyddo gau sef Kieran Howard, ar fenthyg o Abertawe, a Rory Smitham amddiffynnwr o Lanelli. Gyda Port yn ennill eu gêm gyntaf yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair nos Fawrth mae Tomi Morgan wedi gweld ei dîm ‘newydd’ yn gwella a dywedodd wrth yr Herald “Ces fy mhlesio dipyn mwy gan y ddau berfformiad diwethaf na’r ddau blaenorol ac aeth pethau’n dda eto nos Fawrth. Roedd angen y fuddugoliaeth honno.” Gallai fod yn frwydr ddiddorol ddydd Sadwrn gyda’r ddau dîm yn awyddus i sicrhau eu buddugoliaeth gyntaf o’r tymor yn UGC. Ewch i i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Castell-nedd. Two of the seven teams without a WPL win to their names meet at the Traeth on Saturday. Neath have drawn two of their three games while Port have drawn all three of their games. These early days but history is definitely on Neath’s side as they have won all four of the previous WPL encounters between the two clubs. Neath, however, will probably feel under more pressure after their summer spending spree and having been many a pundit’s fancy to break into the top three or four clubs. Manager Andrew Dyer has made some high profile signings especially those of former Wrexham players, striker Chris Llewelyn and goalkeeper Anthony Williams. Before the transfer window he also added Kieran Howard, a loan signing from Swansea City, and Llanelli defender Rory Smitham. Tomi Morgan, whose team chalked up their first win of the season in the League Cup, has seen progress by his revamped team and talking to he Herald said "I’ve been more pleased with our last two performances than our first two and we did well again on Tuesday. We needed to get a win under our belt." We could have an interesting battle on our hands with both sides eager to record the elusive first WPL win. Visit to place a bet on Porthmadog v Neath. 03/09/09 Port yn un o 24 yn ymgeisio am y Drwydded / Port amongst the 24 Licence applicants Mae’r dyddiad cau ar gyfer ceisiadau am Drwydded Domestig wedi mynd heibio. Ymysg y 24 sydd wedi gwneud cais mae CPD Porthmadog. Y Trallwng ydy’r unig un o’r 18 clwb UGC sydd heb wneud cais. Mae saith o glybiau o’r cynghreiriau is hefyd wedi gwneud cais gan gynnwys pedwar o’r Cymru Alliance: Bwcle , Caernarfon, Llandudno, a Llangefni. Dywedodd Andrew Howard, Pennaeth Cystadlaethau a Thrwyddedi’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed, “Dyma gychwyn ar broses sydd yn ddiddorol ond yn gofyn llawer o’r clybiau a’r Gymdeithas” Aeth ymlaen i ddweud “Amcan allweddol y drefn ydy gwella’r hyn y mae Cynghrair Genedlaethol Cymru yn gynnig a bydd y Drwydded yn symud hyn ymlaen. Bydd yn arwain at wella Stadia, Datblygiad Ieuenctid, Cymwysterau Rheolwyr, Rheolaeth a Rheolaeth Ariannol a hyn i enwi ond ychydig o’r bendithion ac rwy’n sicr bydd hyn yn sicrhau fod y gynghrair yn mynd o nerth i nerth. Dadleuol iawn ydy llawer o’r ‘bendithion’ yma. Ar stadia medrwn ddadlau fod clybiau yn cael eu gorfodi i wario ar gyfleusterau na fyddant yn cael eu defnyddio. Ar ddatblygiad chwaraewyr gallai’r penderfyniad arwain at dynnu cyllid wrth sawl academi llwyddiannus iawn. Mae Andrew Howard yn gorffen drwy ddweud “Rwy’n hapus iawn gyda’r nifer o geisiadau sydd yn tanlinellu uchelgais rhai clybiau sydd ar hyn o bryd tu allan i’r WPL.” The Domestic Club Licence application deadline has now past. Porthmadog is amongst the 24 clubs who have applied. 17 of the present WPL have applied with Welshpool the only exception. Seven clubs from the feeder leagues have also applied including four from the Cymru Alliance: Buckley Town FC, Caernarfon Town FC, Llandudno FC, and Llangefni Town. FAW Head of Competitions and Club Licensing Manager Andrew Howard said; "It's the start of what is going to be a very interesting, but demanding process on the clubs and the Association." He goes on to say "The key objective of this system is to enhance the product of the National League in Wales and the Licence will drive this forward. It will improve Stadia, Youth Development, Manager's Qualifications, Administration and Finances, to name but a few benefits and I'm convinced that this will ensure that the League goes from strength to strength." Many of these of course are contentious issues and far from clear-cut. On stadia it could well be argued that clubs are being forced to spend on facilities which will remain unused. As far as player development goes the changes could be counter productive with financial backing withdrawn from successful academies. Andrew Howard concludes, "I'm pleased with the number of applicants which highlights the ambition of some of the clubs currently outside the Principality Welsh Premier League” 03/09/09 Yr Ail-dîm yn Awst / Reserves: August Round-up Mis Awst cymysg iawn o ran canlyniadau cafodd yr Ail Dîm. Colli o 3-0 oedd yr hanes yn erbyn tîm cryf Bodedern yn y gêm gyntaf. Ond yn dilyn hyn daeth yr hogiau yn ôl yn dda i sicrhau buddugoliaeth swmpus dros y Bontnewydd ar y Traeth. Manteisiodd Carl Jones ac Euron Roberts ar y cyfle i gael 90 munud llawn yn y gêm hon. Carl agorodd y sgorio gyda ergyd bwerus, a’r ail yn dod cyn hanner amser o beniad da gan Arwel Evans. Ychwanegwyd dwy arall yn yr ail hanner gan Cai Jones a Mark Bridge. Ar y Sadwrn canlynol ymwelwyd a Chaernarfon Wanderers y clwb sydd wedi sicrhau dyrchafiad. Cyfartal oedd hi ar y diwedd 2-2. Adref wedyn i groesawu Bethel. Cyfartal di-sgôr oedd hi ar yr hanner ond aeth Bethel ymlaen yn yr ail-hanner ac ennill yn gyfforddus o 4-0 gyda Jamie Whitemore yn sgorio ddwywaith. Gaerwen oedd yr ymwelwyr nesaf â’r Traeth a di-sgôr oedd hi unwaith eto ar yr hanner cyn i Lloyd Edwards rhoi Port ar y blaen o’r smotyn ond deg munud o’r diwedd daeth y Gaerwen yn ôl yn gyfartal. Gorffennwyd y mis ar nodyn uchel gyda buddugoliaeth o 2-1 dros y cymdogion o Lanystumdwy. Daeth y goliau i gyd yn y chwarter awr olaf. Aeth Port ar y blaen diolch i Cai Jones cyn i Threadgill ddod a’r sgôr yn gyfartal. Sicrhaodd Jack Jones y fuddugoliaeth gydag ond 3 munud yn weddill. The Reserves have opened their season with a real mixed bag of results. They were on the wrong end of a three goal beating in the season’s opener against a strong Bodedern side. They bounced back at Traeth on Tuesday beating Bontnewydd by 4-0 with Carl Jones and Euron Roberts taking the opportunity to play a full 90 minutes. It was Carl Jones who opened the scoring with a powerful strike and an Arwel Evans header made it 2-0 at the interval. Further goals came in the second half from Cai Jones and Mark Bridge. On the following Saturday the Reserves visited newly promoted Caernarfon Wanderers, a game which ended all square at 2-2. Back at home again Bethel were the visitors. Half-time came without any goals but in the second period Bethel stormed to a 4-0 win with Jamie Whitemore scoring two. At home again they played out a 1-1 draw with Anglesey visitors Gaerwen. Once again it was scoreless at the interval but Port went ahead thanks to a Lloyd Edwards spot kick only for Gaerwen to strike back with 10 minutes to go. Port ended the month on a high note winning their derby clash with Llanystumdwy by 2-1. All the goals came in the last 15 minutes. Cai Jones put Port ahead but Threadgill equalised for Llanystumdwy. Jack Jones then hit the winner with only three minutes left. 02/09/09 Tomi yn arwyddo un chwaraewr arall / One more recruit for Tomi Mae CPD Porthmadog wedi cadarnhau fod y clwb wedi arwyddo Aaron Stokoe cyn i’r ffenestr drosglwyddo gau. Mae’r chwaraewr, a ymddangosodd mewn 5(+7) o gemau i’r Trallwng yn 2006/07 pan oedd Tomi Morgan yn reolwr ym Maesydre, yn aros i’r trosglwyddiad dderbyn sêl bendith rhyngwladol. Fel Aden Shannon, un arall o’r chwaraewyr newydd Porthmadog, mae Aaron wedi dod i UGC o glwb Blacon Youth sydd yn chwarae yng Nghynghrair Sir Gaer. Cadarnhawyd hefyd fod John Rowley wedi ail ymuno â Chaernarfon. Bu John yn chwaraewr poblogaidd ar y Traeth, bob amser yn rhoi cant y cant ac yn sgorio 12 gôl yn 2008/09 gan chwarae 23 (+5) o gemau UGC. Un arall sydd wedi gadael ydy Ben Ogilvy a ddaeth i’r Traeth ar ddechrau tymor 2008/09 ac sydd rwan yn ymuno a Phwllheli yn y Welsh Alliance. Ymunodd Ben, sydd yn dal yn chwaraewr ifanc addawol, a Port gan obeithio am le rheolaidd yn y tîm cyntaf ond y tymor diwethaf chwaraeodd 7(+13) o gemau UGC. Mae’r ddau yn gadael gyda diolch a dymuniadau gorau’r clwb i’r dyfodol. CPD Porthmadog have announced the signing of 24 year old midfielder Aaron Stokoe ahead of the Monday deadline. The player, who awaits international clearance, made 5 (+7) appearances for Welshpool Town in 2006/07 when Tomi Morgan was the manager at Maesydre. Aaron, like another of Porthmadog’s new signings Aden Shannon, is a product of West Cheshire League club, Blacon Youth. It has also been confirmed that John Rowley has transferred back to Caernarfon. John proved a popular figure at the Traeth scoring 12 goals last season and made 23 (+5) WPL appearances. A player, who never gave less than 100% will be missed, at the Traeth. Another player on the move is Ben Ogilvy who signed for Port at the beginning of 2008/09 and now joins Welsh Alliance club, Pwllheli. Ben remains a promising young player but he came to the Traeth in search of regular first team football but last season made 7 (+13) WPL appearances. Both players leave with the thanks and best wishes of the club. 31/08/09 Yr Academi yn Datblygu Chwaraewyr / The Academy and Player Development Roedd yn syndod gweld fod Dail y Post yn datgan mai “Bangor ydy un o’r ychydig glybiau yn UGC sydd yn datblygu talent lleol.” Mae’n dda medru cyhoeddi fod tri o’r garfan Dan-16 a enillodd Cwpan Academi Cymru wedi cael eu cyfle yn nhîm cyntaf Porthmadog mewn gemau cyfeillgar cyn dymor. Roedd gweinyddwr yr academi, Eddie Blackburn yn hapus i gyhoeddi yn y rhaglen, “Sgoriodd Cai Jones ei gôl gyntaf i’r clwb yng Nghlan Conwy a gwnaeth Meilir Ellis ddau arbediad cofiadwy yn erbyn Llanrug gyda Dylan Williams yn dangos ei fod yn gyflym ac yn fedrus gyda throed chwith dda iawn.” Yn barod mae Cai Jones wedi gwneud sawl ymddangosiad o’r fainc i’r tîm cyntaf a Dylan Williams yn gwneud ei ymddangosiad cyntaf fel eilydd yn UGC yn erbyn Caersws. Dyma arwydd clir fod Tomi Morgan yn credu fod datblygu chwaraewyr drwy’r academi yn holl bwysig i ddyfodol Porthmadog. Codwyd cwestiynau yn barod am y cam nesaf wrth ddatblygu chwaraewyr drwy’r Ail Dîm. Cliciwch yma. Ond beth am ddyfodol academi pob clwb sydd yn cael ei luchio allan o UGC? Rhaid inni bellach gymryd mai dim ond 12 a wedyn 10 academi fydd yn derbyn cefnogaeth ariannol wrth y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed. Mae’n agoriad llygad i nodi’r clybiau a ymddangosodd yn Ffeinal Cwpan Academi Cymru 2008/09: Porthmadog(dau dîm), Castell Nedd, Derwyddon Cefn o UGC yn ogystal a Merthyr a Pontardawe. Academi llwyddiannus arall na ymddangosodd yn y ffeinal eleni oedd Cei Conna. Mae’n bosib felly na fydd arian academi i nifer o’r clybiau yma ar ôl y tymor hwn. Os oes gan y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed ddiddordeb mewn datblygu chwaraewyr ifanc, a hynny tu allan i Gynghrair Lloegr, bydd rhaid gweithredu rwan gan hysbysu pob Academi am yr hyn sydd o’u blaen. Having read in the Daily Post the rather surprising assertion that “Bangor are one of the few Welsh Premier clubs promoting home-grown talent,” it is good to report that three players from last year’s U-16 Welsh Academies Cup-winning squad were given a run in the Porthmadog first team during pre-season. A very pleased Eddie Blackburn, academy administrator, says in the match programme “Cai Jones scored his first goal for the club at Glan Conwy and Meilir Ellis made two memorable saves against Llanrug and Dylan Williams showed himself to be a pacy tricky winger with a good left foot.” Cai Jones has already made several substitute first team appearances and Dylan Williams also came from the bench to make his first WPL appearance against Caersws. This is a clear indication that Tomi Morgan sees player development through the Academy being vitally important for Porthmadog FC. Questions have already been raised concerning the next step in player development through the reserves.Click here. But what is the future for the academies of clubs booted out of the WPL? We must assume there will be only 12 and later 10 academies receiving financial backing from the FAW. It is instructive to look at the clubs who appeared in the 2008/09 Welsh Academies Cup Finals: Porthmadog, Neath, Cefn Druids of the WPL and Merthyr and Pontardawe. Amongst the successful Academies not in the Finals day were Connah’s Quay. Several of these Academies could be denied funding after this season. If they are really interested in players being developed, -that is outside the English Leagues-, the FAW need to take action now and let the Academies know what lies ahead. 30/08/09 Rhagolwg: v Caersws / Preview: v Caersws Bydd Porthmadog a Chaersws mewn gwell hwyliau nos Fawrth nac oedden nhw adeg y gêm rhyngddynt 10 diwrnod yn ôl. Hyn yn dilyn perfformiadau gwell wythnos ddiwethaf. Yn sydyn iawn, ar ôl sgorio ond un gôl mewn tair gêm, sgoriodd Caersws 3 yn erbyn y Trallwng gyda Matt Prosser, Chris Melia a Geraint Lewis yn canfod y rhwyd i sicrhau buddugoliaeth gyntaf o’r tymor i’r Gleision. Er fod Port yn dal i chwilio am fuddugoliaeth byddant yn fodlon gyda’r ffordd yr adeiladwyd ar y gwelliant a ddangoswyd ar Lannau Dyfrdwy gyda’r hyn a ddisgrifiodd Tomi Morgan ar ‘Sgorio’ yn “berfformiad graenus” yn erbyn y Bala. Roedd Euron a Mike yn edrych yn gyfforddus yn y cefn gyda Ceri James, Gareth Parry, Paul Roberts a Dan Pyrs, pan ddaeth i’r cae, yn ffurfio canol cae cadarn sydd yn codi’n gobeithion. Dyma’r ail waith i’r ddau glwb gyfarfod, dau glwb sydd wedi eu diystyru yn hawdd iawn, gan y ‘gwybodusion’. fel clybiau heb obaith o gyrraedd y 12 Uchaf. Ond rwy’n amau os yma i basio’r amser mae’r rheolwyr profiadol Mickey Evans a Tomi Morgan. Disgwyliwch sawl sioc cyn i Ebrill 2010 gyrraedd. Both Porthmadog and Caersws will be in a better frame of mind after the events of the past Caersws with only one goal in three games prior to Saturday suddenly score three against Welshpool with week than they were when they last met, only 10 days ago. goals from Matt Prosser, Chris Melia and Geraint Lewis to claim their first win of the season. Port, though still searching for their first win, will also be satisfied with their week as they maintained the progress shown at Connah’s Quay with what Tomi Morgan described on ‘Sgorio’ as a ‘quality performance’ against Bala. With Euron and Mike looking comfortable at full back and Ceri James, Gareth Parry, Paul Roberts, and Dan Pyrs when he came on, creating a solid looking midfield, things are looking hopeful. This is the second meeting between two clubs who have been rather easily written off as Top 12 no hopers by the self appointed pundits. but I doubt managers as experienced as Mickey Evans and Tomi Morgan are in it just for the ride. There could be more than a few surprises before April 2010. 29/08/09 Hogiau Dan-11 i amddiffyn Tarian Tom Yeoman / Under-11 to defend Tom Yeoman Shield Eleni eto bydd y garfan ddatblygu Dan-11 yn chwarae yng nghystadleuaeth Cymru gyfan --Tarian Tom Yeoman. Chwaraewyr ifanc Porthmadog ydy deiliaid y darian gyda buddugoliaeth wych yn rowndiau terfynol cystadleuaeth 2008/09 a gynhaliwyd ar gaeau’r Clwb Chwaraeon. Mae nifer of gefnogwyr wedi holi am y gystadleuaeth bwysig hon i chwaraewyr oed ysgol gynradd. Dyma’r esboniad gan Eddie Blackburn, gweinyddwr yr Academi: “Cystadleuaeth ydy hon i garfannau datblygu dros Gymru gyfan yn cael eu threfnu gan Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Ysgolion Cymru. Bydd pob ardal –a byddwn ni’n cynrychioli Ysgolion De Gwynedd- â dau dîm o wyth yn y rhan grwp o’r gystadleuaeth a hyn yn arwain at ddiwrnod y rownd derfynol, pan fydd yr wyth tîm gorau yn y grwpiau yn chwarae’i gilydd.” Bydd y gemau cyntaf ar ddydd Sadwrn 3 Hydref oddi cartref yn Wrecsam a’r gêm adref gyntaf ar Sadwrn 21 Tachwedd yn erbyn Ysgolion y Rhyl. Sylwch ar y dyddiad a dewch i gefnogi! The U-11 development squad has once more been entered in the all-Wales Tom Yeoman Shield competition. The Porthmadog youngsters are the holders of the shield having triumphed in an exciting 2008/09 ‘Finals Day’ held at Clwb Chwaraeon. Many supporters have asked for more information about this prestigious tournament for young primary school aged players. Academy Administrator Eddie Blackburn explains: “This is a competition for developing squads throughout the whole of Wales and is organised by the Welsh Schools Football Association. Each area –and we represent South Gwynedd Schools- enters two teams of eight boys and the qualifying section of the tournament is played on a group basis culminating in the Showpiece Finals Day for the top eight area teams based on results during the season.” The first games are scheduled for Saturday, 3 October away to the Wrexham Schools. The first home game will be on Saturday 21 November against Rhyl Schools. Note the dates and support the lads. 28/08/09 Bangor yng Nghwpan yr Arfordir / Bangor in the Coast Cup Yn rownd gyntaf Cwpan yr Arfordir bydd Porthmadog yn chwarae Bangor ar Ffordd Ffarar ar ddyddiad i’w benderfynu. Cyn hyn bydd Bae Colwyn yn chwarae Prestatyn a Llangefni yn cyfarfod Fflint am le yn y rownd gyntaf. Yng Nghwpan Dan-19 Arfordir y Gogledd bydd Porthmadog yn chwarae Pwllheli yn y rownd gyntaf ar y Traeth, eto ar ddyddiad i’w benderfynu. Porthmadog have been drawn to meet Bangor in the first round of the 2009/10 North Wales Coast Challenge Cup at Farrar Road, on a date to be decided. Before this, four clubs will meet in a preliminary round Colwyn Bay v Prestatyn and Llangefni v Flint. In NWCFA U-19 Cup First Round, Porthmadog have been drawn to meet Pwllheli at the Traeth on a date to be announced. 27/08/09 Mike yn ôl ar y Traeth / Mike is back at the Traeth Mae’r sibrydion sydd wedi bod yn rhemp ers dyddiau bellach wedi cael eu cadarnhau, ac mae Mike Foster wedi cael ei drosglwyddo yn ôl i’r Traeth. Hyn ar ôl chwarae dim ond tair gêm yn y Cymru Alliance i Hotspyrs Caergybi. Bydd yna groeso gwresog i’r newyddion hwn gan bob cefnogwr Port. Croeso ’nol Mike! The rumours which have abounded over the last few days have now been confirmed to be true and Mike Foster has been transferred back to Port after making only three Cymru Alliance appearances for Holyhead Hotspur. The Traeth stalwart will receive a warm welcome from all Port supporters. Welcome back Mike! 27/08/09 Rhagolwg: v Y Bala / Preview: v Bala Town Mae Bala wedi cychwyn eu tymor cyntaf yn UGC ar dân gan sicrhau dwy fuddugoliaeth a dim ond nhw a TNS sydd yn dal â record cant y cant. Mae’r rheolwr Colin Caton wedi cryfhau ei garfan yn ystod yr haf ac o’r chwaraewyr newydd mae’r Ricky Evans profiadol a Peter Moore cyn chwaraewr ifanc Wigan wedi profi yn ychwanegiadau gwerthfawr. Gyda naws darbi lleol i’r gêm hon gallwn ddisgwyl torf dda yn gobeithio gweld y clwb cartref yn ceisio adeiladu ar y cychwyn da. Ar y llaw arall gweddol fu cychwyn Port gyda dwy gêm gyfartal ond gall pethau newid yn sydyn ac agos iawn bu y mwyafrif o’r gemau cynghrair hyd yma eleni. Er colli eu gêm yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair yng Nghei Conna roedd digon i’w edmygu ym mherfformiad Port a hynny yn unigol ac yn eu perfformiad fel tîm. Edrychwn ymlaen at gêm dda. Ewch i i roi bet ar Bala v Porthmadog. Bala Town have got off to a flying start to life in the WPL recording two league victories and together with TNS are the only clubs with a 100% record. Manager Colin Caton has strengthened his squad during the summer and of these the experienced Ricky Evans and former Wigan youngster Peter Moore have proved especially important acquisitions. With Friday’s game at Maes Tegid having a local derby flavour we can expect a good crowd as the home club try to build on their good start. Port have had an indifferent start recording two draws but things can change quickly for the majority of league games played so far have been relatively close encounters. Though they lost their league cup tie at Connah’s Quay there was much to admire in Port’s play in the both the overall team performance and several good individual performances. Let’s hope for a good match. Gan fod y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed yn bwriadu cael gwared o bob ail dîm o’r pyramid mae’n ymddangos mae’r tymor hwn fydd yr olaf i ail dîm Porthmadog yng Nghynghrair Gwynedd. Beth felly sydd gan y Gymdeithas mewn golwg ar gyfer ail dimau y clybiau? Wrth drafod hyn ddydd Sadwrn, yn y rhaglen, dywedodd Gerallt Owen, “ Gyda’r rheol un chwaraewr un clwb wedi’i dderbyn erbyn hyn gwelwn fod yr ail dîm yn arf pwysig i feithrin a datblygu chwaraewyr ifanc. Mae’r Academi yn weithredol i fyny at 16 oed ond heb gynghrair i rhai o dan 17 ac 18 mae’n yna wagle yn natblygiad pêl-droed ieuenctid.” Aeth ymlaen i ddweud, “Ar hyn o bryd mae gan y clwb 9 chwaraewr dan 18 wedi’u cofrestru ac yn chwarae’n rheolaidd i’r ail dîm. Mae’n holl bwysig felly i’r ail dîm barhau.” Mae’n galw ar y clybiau sydd a diddordeb i “... weithredu ac rhoi arweiniad.” Yn barod mae gan Clwyd gynghrair i ail dimau ac mae’n annog Gwynedd, i naill ai ddilyn neu ymuno gyda Chlwyd i ffurfio Cynghrair Ail-dimau Gogledd Cymru. With the FAW intending to remove all reserve teams from the pyramid structure it appears that this will be the last season for Porthmadog Reserves in the Gwynedd League. What then do the FAW have in mind if anything for club reserve teams? Gerallt Owen writing in last Saturday’s match programme stresses the importance of reserve football, “Now that one player one club is the norm in Welsh football reserve teams are becoming more important in nurturing and developing young players. With the Academy operating up to U-16 level and no regional league at U-17 or U-18 level here is a gap in youth development.” He says “Currently there are nine Under 18 players registered with the club and playing regularly for the reserves. Therefore it is vital for the reserves to survive.” He calls for “… leadership and action from interested clubs.” With a Clwyd Reserve League already in existence he urges Gwynedd to follow suit or alternatively create a North Wales Reserve League. 23/08/09 Rhagolwg: v Gap Cei Conna / Preview: v Gap Connah’s Quay Bydd Porthmadog yn chwarae eu gêm gyntaf yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair 2009/10 ar Lannau Dyfrdwy nos Fawrth. Yn dilyn haf o drafferthion mae Cei Conna wedi penodi Mark McGregor yn chwaraewr rheolwr a hyn yn barod yn edrych yn benodiad da. Cafwyd cychwyn cadarn i’r tymor wrth sicrhau gêm gyfartal yng Nghastell Nedd -clwb sydd y ffefryn gan rhai i roi sialens i’r tri ar y brig. Dilynwyd hyn gyda buddugoliaeth gyfforddus ddydd Sadwrn a rhwng y ddwy gêm un gyfartal ddi-sgor yn y gwpan yng Nghaersws. Bydd rhaid i Port fynd ati i geisio arafu’r rhediad ac adeiladu ar y ddwy gêm gynghrair gyfartal a sicrhawyd hyd yma. Ein gobaith yw gweld y garfan newydd yn dechrau setlo gan greu fwy o gyfleoedd i’r bartneriaeth addawol yn y blaen rhwng y chwaraewr profiadol a’r ymosodwr ifanc. Gallwn hefyd edrych ymlaen at berfformiadau’r golwr Richard Morgan sydd yn roi hyder i’r amddiffyn. Un arall sydd wedi cael dechrau da i’r tymor ydy Chris Jones gyda’i rhediadau twyllodrus a chroesi cywir. Mae’n bosib fydd y ddau rheolwr yn rhoi cyfle i eraill yn y ddwy garfan –cawn weld ar y noson. Porthmadog begin their League Cup campaign for 2009/10 with a visit to the Deeside Stadium on Tuesday night. After a summer of upheaval the Deeside club appear to have made a shrewd decision appointing Mark McGregor, the former Wrexham defender, as their player-manager. They have got off to a good start in the league holding Neath Athletic -the choice of some pundits to challenge the top three- to an away draw and then picking up a comfortable 3 points at home on Saturday. In between they started their League Cup campaign with a goaless draw at the Rec. against our Saturday opponents Caersws. Port will be out to halt this good Nomads start and build on the two draws they have gained so far. We must hope that as the new formation settles in they will create scoring opportunities for what looks a promising partnership between the experienced campaigner and the young striker. Let’s hope that Richard Morgan continues his outstanding form and also Chris Jones whose tricky runs and excellent crossing has been one of the better features so far. Whether the managers will use this match to give game time to other squad players we shall have to wait and see. 23/08/09 Tomi yn anelu i gryfhau / Tomi still looking to strengthen Er fod Tomi Morgan wedi ail adeiladu’r garfan bron yn gyfangwbl yn ystod yr haf mae’n dal i chwilio am chwaraewyr i gryfhau’r garfan. “Mae’n dal gennyf un neu ddau o ymholiadau ar y gweill ac efallai byddant y dwyn ffrwyth cyn ddiwedd yr wythnos,” meddai yn ei ‘View from the Bench’ Roedd wedi bod a’i lygad ar ddau chwaraewr yn ystod yr wythnos ddiwethaf ac yn gobeithio eu denu i’r Traeth. Yn y diwedd methodd ei ymdrechion. Felly gobeithio am well lwc yr wythnos hon. Though manager Tomi Morgan has virtually re-built the squad in its entirety over the summer he still has his eye open for players who could strengthen his squad. “I still have a few irons in the fire, he said in his View from the Bench, which may come to fruition this week.” He had his eye on two players whom he hoped to attract to the Traeth during last week but in the end this proved to be a fruitless task. Let’s hope for better luck this week. |
