31/08/06 Ieuan Griffiths + Mrs EC Morgan Estynnwn ein cydymdeimlad â theuluoedd dau a fu â chysylltiad agos â’r clwb. Bu munud o dawelwch yng ngêm gyntaf y tymor i gofio Ieuan Griffiths a Mrs EC Morgan a fu farw’n ddiweddar. Roedd Ieuan Griffiths yn aelod o’r tîm amatur enwog a enillodd Gwpan Amatur Cymru ar ddau achlysur yng nghanol y pumdegau ac roedd yn bresennol yn yr aduniad diweddar. Roedd ei frodyr Wil a Moss Griffiths hefyd yn aelodau o’r tîm llwyddiannus hwnnw. Roedd Mrs Morgan yn is-lywydd am oes y clwb ac roedd gan ei theulu gysylltiad hir â chlwb Porthmadog. We extend our condolences to two families with close links to the club. A minute’s silence was observed before the opening game of the season as a mark of respect for Ieuan Griffiths and Mrs. EC Morgan. Ieuan Griffiths was a member of the famous amateur team that won the Welsh Amateur Cup on two occasions in the fifties and he was present in the reunion held at the end of last season. His brothers Will and Moss were also members of that successful team. Mrs. EC Morgan was a life vice-president of the club and her family has a long association with the club. 19/08/06 Chwaraewr y gêm / Man of the match Bellach mae cyfle i chi bleidleisio ar y safle yma dros eich chwaraewr gorau mewn gêm! Ar ôl pob gêm bydd pôl-piniwn yn ymddangos ar y safle yma. Ewch i'r dudalen ganlyniadau er mwyn pleidleisio dros chwaraewr y gêm yn erbyn y Trallwng. The Porthmadog FC website is now giving you the chance to vote for your man of the match! After each game an opinion-poll will appear on this site. Go to the results page to vote for your man of the match against Welshpool. 18/08/06 Un arall wedi arwyddo / Another signing Mae Porthmadog wedi ychwanegu enw Kevin Roberts at restr carfan y tîm cyntaf ar gyfer y tymor newydd. Bu Roberts yn chwarae i Fethesda y tymor diwethaf ac mae wedi creu argraff dda mewn nifer o’r gêmau paratoadol. Kevin Roberts has been added to the first team squad for the new season. Roberts who played for Bethesda Athletic last season has made a good impression during several pre-season fixtures for Porthmadog. 17/08/06 Camerau ar Y Traeth / Cameras at the Traeth ![]() Highlights of the Porthmadog v Welshpool game will be featured as the main match in S4C’s “Y Clwb Pêl Droed on Saturday (August 19th) and also repeated on Monday night. 15/08/06 Allports i barhau fel prif noddwyr / Allports remain main sponsors ![]() ![]() 15/08/06 Dechrau anodd i Porthmadog / Tough start for Porthmadog ![]() The new season starts on Saturday (19/08/06) with a tough game against Tomi Morgan’s lads – Welshpool. The mid-Walians finished last season in a creditable 6th position, but Port will take heart from their reasonably comfortable two goal defeat of Welshpool in the last game of last season with goals coming courtesy of Les Davies and Jason Sadler. But, over the summer, Tomi has been busy strengthening his squad with 5 new signings, including two who have had some experience of professional football – Danny Watkins (Wrexham) and George Hughes (Shrewsbury). Two strikers have made the step from the Cymru Alliance – Dave Griffiths (Queen’s Park) and Siôn Butler (Guilsfield). The other arrival is Stuart Vernon from Llandyrnog. After performing quite well in pre-season, this is Port’s chance to prove themselves against quite tough opposition. 13/08/06 Dyrchafiad i Ail Dîm TNS? / Promotion for TNS Reserves? ![]() Events involving TNS Reserves are of considerable interest to Porthmadog supporters. Manager Osian Roberts drew attention recently to Mike Harris’ challenge to the FAW after that body had denied the Saints’ reserve side promotion to the Mid Wales League just as had happened in the case of Porthmadog Reserves who had also been denied entry to the third tier of the Welsh Pyramid after winning the Gwynedd League in 2004-05. “Saints Alive” website now reports further developments. TNS have been successful in their appeal against the FAW’s decision when an appeals panel chaired by the newly elected Welsh FA President, Peter Rees, found in their favour. The story does not end there for the FAW has now made a counter appeal against the decision of its own appeals panel! So we shall have to wait and see again. Osian has already made it clear that without promotion for reserve sides, developing players from within the club is impossible. For some mysterious reason, this opinion does not meet with the approval of some who are running the game in Wales. 13/08/06 Gŵyl o adloniant ar y Traeth / Festival of entertainment at the Traeth ![]() Phil Jones, Chairman of Porthmadog FC, has announced that the club is organizing a mini-festival of summer entertainment at the Traeth. The festival will start on Tuesday, August 22nd with further events on the Wednesday and Thursday before it comes to an end on Friday, August 25th. The four evenings of entertainment will be partly organized by Mici Plwm’s event management company MP Events. Dr Jazz opens the festival on Tuesday followed by a Wrestling Night on the Wednesday and on Thursday it will be Willi Messerschmit’s Bavarian Oompah Band who provide the entertainment before the festival reaches a climax on the Friday with the appearance of the popular band Frisbee who topped the bill at this year’s Sesiwn Fawr at Dolgellau. Aberystwyth Town had no game on that date so the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day fixtures have been reshuffled. Porthmadog will now visit Aberystwyth on Boxing Day (December 26th) and there will be no fixture on New Year’s Day. 07/08/06 Cwpan Genedlaethol y BBC / FAW Premier Cup ![]() Porthmadog will once more appear in the FAW Premier Cup with the 11th place in the WPL proving just sufficient for them to gain entry. The draw for the first round will take place live on BBC Wales television on Saturday, September 9th during Wales on Saturday. This competition, sponsored by the BBC, offers £3,500 to clubs eliminated in the first round, £6,000 for clubs who gain entry to the second round, losing quarter finalists will collect £15,000, semi-finalists £25,000 and £50,000 for runners-up. The winners will receive a bumper cheque for a £100, 000. The first round has been scheduled for the week commencing September 25th. 06/08/06 Gêm Llanelli i ffwrdd / Llanelli Game cancelled ![]() Due to Llanelli's involvement in the Uefa Cup against Odense BK on the 24th August, it has been necessary to postpone Porthmadog's game at Llanelli on 26th August. News of the rearranged fixture will appear on this site when available. 03/08/06 Y newyddion diweddaraf am y tim 1af / An update on the first team Mae paratoadau’r Tîm Cyntaf ar gyfer y tymor a'r gêm Gynghrair gyntaf ar y Traeth yn erbyn y Trallwng ar 19 Awst yn dal i fynd yn dda. Roedd y gêm oddi-cartref yn erbyn ail dîm/tîm ieuenctid Bury yn ymarfer llwyddiannus iawn gyda ffitrwydd y chwaraewyr yn cynyddu yn fawr. Dywedodd y cyd-reolwr Osian Roberts fod ei ffrind, rheolwr tîm cyntaf Bury Chris Casper, wedi’i blesio gydag agwedd chwaraewyr Port, eu gallu, a’r modd roeddynt wedi’u trefnu. Yn wir, gwnaeth Port gymaint o argraff fel bod Bury wedi addo i ymweld â’r Traeth yn ddiweddarach yn y tymor i chwarae Port. Dywedodd Roberts mai ychydig iawn o anafiadau sydd wedi bod hyd yn hyn – Ryan Davies – groin Richard Hughes – coes Richard Harvey – ysgwydd Gareth Caughter – sawdl Jonathan Peris – groin Gareth Parry – cafodd driniaeth hernia ddydd Iau, 27 Gorffennaf. Dechreuodd redeg ysgafn ddoe (Dydd Mercher, 2 Awst) a bydd yn dechrau ymarfer llawn ar 12 Awst. Ar 2 Awst bu’r tîm cyntaf a’r ail yn ymarfer gyda'i gilydd ar y Traeth. Bydd hyn yn digwydd yn rheolaidd drwy’r tymor er mwyn hwyluso’r cam o Gynghrair Gwynedd i Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Roedd Roberts wedi’i blesio efo agwedd a gwaith caled chwaraewyr ifanc yr ail dîm yn y sesiwn cyntaf ac mae’n gobeithio y byddant yn parhau i greu argraff dros yr wythnosau nesaf. Pre-season training continues to go well for the First Team squad prior to their opening League match at home to Welshpool on August 19th. The away match versus Bury FC’s reserve / youth side proved an extremely successful exercise with match fitness clearly increasing. Joint Manager Osian Roberts reported that his friend, Bury’s 1st Team Manager Chris Casper was very impressed with the attitude of the Port players, their ability, and the way they were organised. In fact Port made such an impression that Bury have promised to visit the Traeth later in the season for a return fixture. Roberts reports that 1st Team injuries to date are relatively minimal – Ryan Davies – slight groin strain Richard Hughes – dead leg Richard Harvey – shoulder Gareth Caughter – heel Jonathan Peris – groin Gareth Parry – received his hernia operation Thursday, July 27th. Started jogging yesterday ( Wednesday, Aug 2nd ) and will be back in full training on August 12th. August 2nd saw both the 1st Team and Reserves train together at the Traeth. This will be a regular occurrence throughout the season and should make the transition for players from Gwynedd League to Welsh Premier a little easier. Roberts was impressed with the attitude and work rate of the young reserves in this opening session and hopes they’ll continue to impress in weeks to come. 03/08/06 Osian yn gwerthfawrogi cyfraniad Mike / Osian appreciates Mike’s contribution ![]() Dywedodd Roberts “Mae gen i’r parch mwyaf i Fossie. Bu yma gyda Viv a minnau ers y diwrnod cyntaf ac mae wedi chwarae rhan holl bwysig wrth i Borthmadog ail- sefydlu eu hunain yn yr Uwch Gynghrair. Rwy’n teimlo’n sicr mae fo ydy un o’r amddiffynwyr â’r sgiliau pêl droed gorau yn y gynghrair ac ni allaf ddychmygu faint o goliau mae o wedi creu gyda’i droed chwith arbennig.” Aeth Roberts ymlaen gan ddweud ei fod yn ysbrydoliaeth i bob chwaraewr ifanc yn yr ardal. Mae ei broffesiynoldeb a’i ymroddiad yno i bawb ei weld ac er yn 32 mlwydd oed mae o mor ffit ag erioed ac yn edrych yn siarp iawn yn yr ymarfer cyn-tymor. Treuliodd Foster bum mlynedd fel chwaraewr proffesiynol gyda Tranmere Rovers ac enillodd gap Dan-21 i Gymru. “Pan ofynnais i’m cyfaill Warwich Rimmer a fyddai Tranmere yn barod i ddod â tîm i lawr i chwarae mewn gêm dysteb i Fossie, heb betruso am eiliad, fe gytunodd. Rwy’n gwybod fod ganddo feddwl uchel o Mike ac roedd yn awyddus i ddod â’r tîm cryfaf posib’ i’r Traeth.” Gan fod yr Gynghrair Nationwide yn cychwyn y penwythnos yma yn naturiol nid yw chwaraewyr y tîm cyntaf ar gael. Er hynny mae Rimmer yn gobeithio fod y chwaraewyr proffesiynol eraill yn ffit ac yn barod i chwarae ar y Traeth mewn gêm a fydd yn sialens o ddifri’ i’r tîm cartref. ![]() Roberts said “I have the utmost respect for Fossie. He has been here from day one with Viv and I and has played an integral part in establishing Port back in the Welsh Premier. I think he’s one of the best footballing defenders in the League, and I wouldn’t like to imagine how many goals he has created with that cultured left foot of his.” Roberts continued by stating that he is an inspiration to all young players in the area. His professionalism and dedicaton is there for all to see, and at 32 years of age he’s as fit as he’s ever been and has looked extremely sharp in pre-season training. Foster spent 5 years as a pro at Tranmere Rovers FC and gained a Welsh Under 21 cap. “When I asked my friend Warwick Rimmer at Tranmere if they could bring a side down for Fossie he didn’t hesitate. I know he thinks a great deal of Mike, and was keen to bring the strongest side possibly to the Traeth.” Since the Nationwide League starts this Saturday, naturally first team players are unable to travel. However, Rimmer is hoping that all the other professionals will be fit and able to play at the Traeth, which should mean a very stern test for the home side. 31/07/06 Gêm Dysteb Mike / Mike’s Testimonial Match ![]() ![]() 31/07/06 Principality yw’r noddwr newydd / Principality are the new sponsors Da yw clywed fod Uwch Gynghrair Cymru wedi llwyddo i ddenu noddwr newydd i gymryd lle Vauxhall Masterfit a benderfynodd beidio manteisio ar yr opsiwn i adnewyddu’r cytundeb am flwyddyn arall. Arwyddwyd cytundeb yn lle hynny gyda Chymdeithas Adeiladu’r Principality –cwmni Cymreig- am gyfnod o dair blynedd. Ni ddatgelwyd maint y nawdd sy’n gysylltiedig â’r cytundeb ar hyn o bryd, felly nid yw’n bosib dweud faint fydd y clybiau yn elwa. ![]() It was good to hear that the WPL has succeeded in attracting a new sponsor to replace Vauxhall Masterfit who decided not to take up the option to renew the arrangement for another 12 months. Instead, a deal has been signed for a three year period with the Principality Building Society –a Welsh company. The amount of money involved has not yet been disclosed so at the moment it is not possible to judge how much the clubs will benefit. 26/07/06 Osian yn gobeithio am well lwc efo anafiadau / Osian hopes for better luck with injuries Mae Viv ac Osian yn gobeithio am fwy o lwc gydag anafiadau y tymor nesaf, ar ôl colli asgwrn cefn y garfan sef Ryan Davies, Gareth Parry a Carl Owen am gyfnodau hir y tymor diwethaf. Roedd Roberts yn llai na bodlon gyda diagnosis o anafiadau. “Dim ond nos Wener diwethaf y daeth i’r amlwg bod Carl wedi torri asgwrn yn ei droed ers misoedd. Pan gafodd ei anfon am belydr-X yn gynnar ym mis Mawrth ni chafodd hyn ei weld gan yr ysbyty. Fodd bynnag, dangosodd archwiliad pellach yr wythnos diwethaf raddfa’r anaf.” Un arall a ddioddefodd o ddiagnosis gwael oedd Gareth Parry sydd yn mynd i gael triniaeth hernia ddydd Iau nesaf, a bydd felly yn methu wythnos gyntaf y tymor. Bu nifer o ffisiotherapyddion yn trin yr anaf i Gareth ers mis Chwefror, ond methodd bob un ohonynt â sylweddoli fod ganddo broblem hernia. O ganlyniad mae’r tîm reoli yn falch fod y Cadeirydd Phil Jones wedi cymryd y mater i’w ddwylo ei hun a sicrhau gwasanaeth ffisiotherapydd sydd â pharch mawr i’w waith. Y ffisiotherapydd yma fydd yn ymwneud â holl anafiadau chwaraewyr Port o hyn ymlaen. “Rydych yn rhoi’ch chwaraewyr yn nwylo arbenigwyr gan obeithio y byddant yn cael eu trin yn iawn ond mae’n anffodus nad hyn a ddigwyddodd yn achos Carl a Gareth. Ond dwi’n gwybod fod y ddau yn awyddus rwan i wneud yn iawn am yr amser a gollwyd” ychwanegodd Osian. The joint managers are hoping for better luck this season with injuries, having lost the spine of the team in Ryan Davies, Gareth Parry and Carl Owen for lengthy periods last year. Roberts was less than impressed with the diagnosis of the injuries. “It only came to light last Friday that Carl has had a broken bone in his foot for months. When sent for an x-ray in early March the hospital didn’t pick it up. However, a further examination last week showed the extent of the injury.” Another victim of poor diagnosis was Gareth Parry who is due for a hernia operation on Thursday, and will therefore miss the first week of the season. Gareth has had several physios treat his injury since February, but all failed to diagnose that he had a hernia problem. Consequently the management team are pleased that Chairman Phil Jones has taken matters into his own hands and secured the services of a very well respected Physiotherapist who will deal exclusively with the Port players’ injuries from now on. “When you put your players in the hands of the experts you hope they’ll be treated properly, but it’s unfortunate for both Carl and Gareth that this has not been the case. However, I know that both are raring to go now, and make up for lost time,” added Osian. 24/07/06 Port yn cyhoeddi chwaraewyr newydd / Port announce signings English Er mwyn sicrhau na fydd panig cyn dechrau y tymor nesaf, fe oedd cyd-reolwr Porthmadog Viv Williams wedi arwyddo mwyafrif chwaraewyr presennol cyn diwedd y tymor diwethaf. Fel canlyniad mae’r cyfnod rhwng y ddau dymor wedi’i dreulio yn gwneud man newidiadau ac hefyd edrych ar nifer o chwaraewyr newydd fyddai’n gaffaeliad i’r garfan. Mae Viv ac Osian Robert ill dau yn teimlo fod ganddynt gnewyllyn carfan dda iawn – un all ond wella at y dyfodol. Y chwaraewyr sydd wedi’u harwyddo at y tymor nesaf yw – Richard Harvey Mike Foster Lee Webber Rhys Roberts Ryan Davies John G. Jones Jonathan Peris Geraint Mitchell Gareth Parry Gareth Caughter Danny Hughes Paul Friel Ywain Gwynedd Iwan Thomas Jason Sadler Les Davies Carl Owen Dywedodd Osian Roberts ei fod yn falch bod gymaint o chwaraewyr yn dychwelyd ar gyfer y tymor nesaf. “Dwi’n meddwl bod yna gryfder mawr ym mhob safle, gyda chystadleuaeth fawr am lefydd. Er enghraifft mae Rhys, Lee a Ryan yn cystadlu am safleoedd yng nghanol yr amddiffyn, ac mae Carl, Jason a Les yn cystadlu am safleodd fel ymosodwyr. Ond i mi, nod y tymor yw troi’r potensial yn llwyddiant. Dwi’n meddwl ei bod yn amser i’r garfan, yn ein trydydd tymor yn yr Uwch Gynghrair, gymryd cam mawr ymlaen a chyflawni’r potensial dwi a Viv yn credu sydd ganddynt.” Mae Port wedi arwyddo’r newydd-ddyfodiaid Chris Evans, a dreuliodd dair blynedd gyda Wrecsam, a Barry Jones o Fodedern. Hefyd, er nad yw’n arwyddiad cwbl newydd, bydd y ffaith fod Richard Hughes (sy’n cael ei adnabod fel Boskin) ar gael yn gyson, yn newyddion da i’r clwb. Co-manager Viv Williams ensured no close season panic would set in by securing the majority of last season’s players on contracts well before last season’s end. As a result the close season and moreso the preseason thus far has been spent tying up some loose ends and looking at some potential additions to the squad. Both Williams and Osian Roberts believe they have the nucleus of a very good squad, one that can only improve. The list of retained players are as follows – Richard Harvey Mike Foster Lee Webber Rhys Roberts Ryan Davies John G. Jones Jonathan Peris Geraint Mitchell Gareth Parry Gareth Caughter Danny Hughes Paul Friel Ywain Gwynedd Iwan Thomas Jason Sadler Les Davies Carl Owen Osian Roberts said that he was pleased to have so many returning for next season. “I think we’ve got strength in depth in all departments, and healthy competition for places. For example we have Rhys, Lee and Ryan competing for the centre back slots, and we have Carl, Jason and Les competing for the striking roles. But for me, this next season is about turning potential into reality. I think it’s time for the squad, in our third season in the WPL, to take one giant step together and fulfil the potential both Viv and I think they’ve got.” Port have signed newcomers Chris Evans, a former three year scholar from Wrexham FC and Barry Jones from Bodedern. Although strictly not a new signing, Richard Hughes ( known as Boskin ) will regularly be available and will be a major asset. 21/07/06 Osian yn cydymdeimlo efo TNS / Osian sympathises with TNS Mae gan y cyd rheolwr Osian Roberts gydymdeimlad â Mike Harris, Prif Weithredwr TNS, wrth i ail dîm ei glwb fethu yn eu cais am ddyrchafiad i Gynghrair Spar y Canolbarth er iddynt ennill Cynghrair Trefaldwyn . Mae Harris yn bygwth gweithredu’n gyfreithiol yn erbyn Cymdeithas Pêl Droed Cymru. “Rwy’n deall rhesymeg Mike gan ein wedi bod yn yr union sefyllfa ar ddiwedd tymor llynedd.” meddai Osian Gwrthodwyd dyrchafiad i’r trydydd gwastad yn y pyramid Cymreig i ail dîm Porthmadog, yn dilyn ennill Cynghrair Gwynedd yn weddol gyfforddus. Roedd yr ail dîm hwnnw yn llawn o chwaraewyr addawol. Gwnaed y penderfyniad yma er fod ail dîm Rhyl eisoes yn chwarae yn y gynghrair honno. O ganlyniad symudodd nifer o’r tîm llwyddiannus yna i glybiau eraill. “Mae’n rhyfeddol i mi fod y rhai mewn awdurdod yn medru cyfiawnhau’r fath benderfyniadau. Anodd coelio sut maent yn gadael i rai clybiau fod â tîm mewn cynghrair arbennig ac eto yn gwrthod mynediad i glybiau eraill o’r Uwch Gynghrair sydd wedi ennill dyrchafiad. Anodd hefyd ydy coelio fod y rheol un chwaraewr - dau glwb yn dal mewn bodolaeth er i’r rheol honno fod yn groes i reolau UEFA. Da o beth fyddai i’r rhai sydd yn gwneud y penderfyniadau sylweddoli fod y ddwy esiampl yma yn ei gwneud bron yn amhosib datblygu chwaraewyr drwy’r ail dîm.” Joint Manager Osian Roberts has sympathy for TNS Managing Director Mike Harris who has seen his Club’s reserve side fail in their bid to be promoted into the Spar Mid Wales League despite winning the Montgomeryshire League. Harris is threatening to take legal action against the FAW. “I can appreciate where Mike is coming from since we were in an identical situation last year.” Porthmadog’s reserve side, full of promising youngsters, won the Gwynedd League comfortably, but were denied promotion to the third tier in the Welsh pyramid. This was despite the fact that Rhyl’s reserve side were already playing in that League. As a result several members of the successful team moved on to other clubs. “It amazes me that the ‘powers that be’ can justify decisions like these. I can’t believe that they allow certain WPL sides to have reserve sides in certain Leagues, yet when other WPL gain promotion they’re denied access. I also can’t believe the one-player two-club rule which has been in existence despite breaking UEFA’s own rules. I wish the decision makers would realise that these two examples alone make it virtually impossible for Clubs to develop their own players via their reserves.” 20/07/06 Edrych yn ôl at y tymor diwethaf / Looking back at last season Lluniau gan Dylan Ellis sy'n ein hatgoffa o gêm olaf tymor 2005-06 yn erbyn Y Trallwng pan gynhaliwyd aduniad tîm buddugol Cwpan Amatur Cymru.
