13/11/08 Rhagolwg: Porthmadog v Llanelli / Preview: Porthmadog v Llanelli Gyda Peter Nicholas newydd ennill gwobr rheolwr y mis a gyfer mis Hydref, does dim angen arbenigwr i wybod bod hon yn mynd i gêm eithriadol o anodd i Borthmadog. Mae Llanelli wedi ennill eu pum gêm diwethaf yn y Cynghrair, a dim ond un waith maen nhw wedi colli hyd yn hyn y tymor hwn yn erbyn y Rhyl. Yr unig dro arall iddynt fethu sicrhau’r pwyntiau llawn oedd gêm gyfartal yn erbyn TNS! Wedi dweud hynny, dydi pethau heb fod mor syml â hynny dros y ddwy gêm ddiwethaf, ac mae Llanelli wedi gorfod dod yn ôl yn hwyr i guro Caernarfon a Phort Talbot – timau sy’n is yn y tabl na Port. Hefyd, mae gan Porthmadog record eithaf parchus yn erbyn y tîm proffesiynol gan eu curo ar Stebonheath yn un o fuddugoliaethau prin tymor 2007/08. Y tymor cynt, Port roddodd Llanelli allan o’r Cwpan Cenedlaethol a rhannwyd y pwyntiau yn y gêm gartref yn y gynghrair. Bydd angen dipyn go lew o lwc, a pherfformiad gorau’r tymor i gael unrhyw siawns ddydd Sadwrn, ond does dim yn amhosibl mewn pêl-droed. Ewch i i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Llanelli. With Peter Nicholas having just picked up the manager of the month award for October, you don’t need to be an expert to say that this is going to be an extremely stern challenge for Porthmadog. Llanelli have won their last five league matches, and have only lost once as yet this season, and that was against Rhyl. The only other time they have failed to notch up all three points was in a draw against TNS! Having said all that, it hasn’t quite been plain sailing for them in their last two matches, and Llanelli have had to make two late comebacks to beat Caernarfon and Port Talbot – teams lower down the pile than Port. Porthmadog also have a quite respectable record against the professional outfit, beating them on Stebonheath in one of the rare victories of the 2007/08 season. In the previous season, Port knocked Llanelli out of the Premier Cup and shared the spoils with them at home in the league. We’ll need a large helping of luck, and the best performance of the season to have any chance on Saturday, but nothing is impossible in football. Visit to place a bet on Porthmadog v Llanelli. 13/11/08 Timau’r Academi v Trallwng / Academy sides v Welshpool Cafodd gemau timau’r Academi yn erbyn timau’r Trallwng yr wythnos diwethaf eu gohirio oherwydd y tywydd drwg. Mae’r trefnwyr wedi gweithredu’n gyflym i aildrefnu’r gemau, a byddant yn cael eu chwarae ddydd Sul. Bydd y gemau’n cael eu chwarae yng Nghlwb Chwaraeon Madog, gyda’r timau dan12 a dan14 yn dechrau m 11am a’r tîm dan16 yn chwarae am 12.30pm. Last week’s Academy matches against the Welshpool Academy were postponed due to the bad weather. The organisers have acted quickly to re-arrange the matches, which will now be played this Sunday. The matches will be played at Clwb Chwaraeon Madog, with the under12s and under14s taking to the field at 11am and the under16s kicking off at 12.30pm. 09/11/08 Marcus i ddechrau ymarfer / Marcus to commence training Mae yna ychydig o newyddion da o’r diwedd am Marcus Orlik. Bydd y blaenwr allweddol yn dechrau ymarfer unwaith eto nos Fawrth nesaf. Hwn fydd y cam cyntaf yn ôl wedi cyfnod y mae Marcus yn ei ddisgrifio fel, “Cyfnod hir a rhwystredig i fod allan a dim ond oherwydd un asgwrn bach!” Er bydd rhaid i bawb ddal i fod yn amyneddgar tra fydd Marcus yn ennill ei ffitrwydd yn ôl, mae’r cefnogwyr yn edrych ymlaen i weld y chwaraewr poblogaidd hwn unwaith eto yng nghrys Port. There is good news at last concerning Marcus Orlik. The key forward, who suffered a broken metatarsal during pre-season, will resume light training on Tuesday. This will be the first step back from what Marcus describes as, “A very frustrating length of time to be sidelined because of one small bone!” Though we must be patient and allow him to recover full fitness, supporters are looking forward to seeing this popular player back in a Port shirt. 08/11/08 Cwpan Canolradd Arfordir y Gogledd / NWCFA Intermediate Cup Yn dilyn eu buddugoliaeth o 4-1 dros Llansannan mae’r Ail Dîm wedi sicrhau gêm ail rownd yn erbyn Greenfield, clwb arall sydd yn chwarae yn Uwch Gynghrair Clwyd. Mae’r clwb o Sir Fflint yn y pumed safle yn eu cynghrair ar hyn o bryd ar ôl ennill 7 o’u deg gêm y tymor hwn. Bydd y gêm hon, yn rownd yr 16 olaf, yn cael ei chynnal ar Y Traeth cyn y 6 Rhagfyr. Following their 4-1 victory over Llansannan, the Reserves have been rewarded with a second round game against Greenfield, another Clwyd Premier League club. The Flintshire club are currently placed 5th in their league having won 7 of their 10 league games this season. This game, in the last 16 of the competition, is due to be played at the Traeth on or before December 6th. 06/11/08 Gemau'r academi dydd Sul / Academy games on Sunday Bydd timau o dan 12, 14, a 16 yn chwarae dydd Sul [9fed Tachwedd] yn erbyn Y Trallwng. Bydd y gemau yn cael eu cynnal yng Nghlwb Chwaraeon Madog gyda'r gemau i'r timau dan 12 a 14 am 11yb a'r tîm dan 16 yn cychwyn am 12:30yh. The under 12s, 14s, a 16s will play against Welshpool this coming Sunday [9th November]. The games will be played at Clwb Chwaraeon Madog with the under 12s and 14s playing at 11am and the under 16s kicking off at 12:30pm. 05/11/08 Rhagolwg: v Caernarfon / Preview: v Caernarfon Bydd y gêm ddarbi nos Wener yn dod â dau glwb at ei gilydd sydd wir angen buddugoliaeth: Caernarfon, am eu bod wedi cael eu hunig 3 phwynt wedi’u tynnu oddi arnynt, a Port ar ôl colli i Lex yn y gwpan. Bydd hon yn gêm am y chwe phwynt diharebol a bydd buddugoliaeth yn rhoi Port 12 pwynt ar y blaen i’r Cofis tra fydd colli yn torri’r gwahaniaeth yn yr hanner. Wythnos diwethaf, Caernarfon oedd y diweddaraf i ddioddef o’r storom o gardiau coch sydd wedi bod yn taro ymwelwyr â chae Stebonheath. O ganlyniad i hyn, byddant heb Marc Dermott, James Thomas a’r golwr Lee Gunion ar gyfer ymweliad Port. Gan glwb yr Oval mae’r record ddisgyblaeth waethaf yn y gynghrair ar ôl derbyn chwe cerdyn coch y tymor hwn. Mae’r ddau glwb wedi cyfarfod yn y gwpan eleni mewn gêm lle sgoriwyd 8 o goliau gan ddangos fod gan y ddau broblemau wrth amddiffyn. Er fod Port wedi ennill y gêm honno, does dim angen atgoffa neb y bu’n rhaid iddynt ddod yn ôl ar ôl colli dwy gôl gynnar. Pe byddai Lee Furlong, a sgoriodd y ddwy gôl, heb orfod gadael y cae, allai’r canlyniad wedi bod yn wahanol. Mae Furlong, cyn chwaraewr i Southport, Burscough, Runcorn a Vauxhall Motors, yn sgoriwr rheolaidd ac yn ogystal â dwy yn erbyn Port, mae wedi rhwydo chwech o weithiau mewn naw gêm gynghrair. Bydd angen bod yn wyliadwrus iawn ohono nos Wener. I godi i fyny’r tabl, bydd rhaid i Port fod yn llawer mwy cyson gan berfformio yn dipyn mwy rheolaidd fel y gwnaethant yn yr ail hanner yn erbyn Y Drenewydd. Byddai hat tric arall gan John Rowley yn erbyn ei hen glwb yn handi iawn! Ewch i i roi bet ar Caernarfon v Porthmadog. Next Friday’s derby at the Oval brings together two sides badly in need of a win: Caernarfon, after having three points taken away from them and Port after the Cup defeat at Lex. This is a six pointer as a win for Port will put them 12 points clear of the Cofis whilst a defeat will cut that difference in half. Caernarfon became the latest victims of the red card storm which has recently struck successive visitors to Stebonheath. This means that they will be without Marc Dermott, James Thomas and goalkeeper Lee Guinon for the visit of Port. The Oval club have the worst disciplinary record in the league having picked up six red cards already. The two sides have already played each other in the Welsh Cup, a game which produced 8 goals and showed that both clubs are having serious problems at the back. Though Port won that game, no one needs reminding that they needed to recover from being two goals behind in the first 20 minutes. Had Lee Furlong, the scorer of the two goals, not limped off after scoring his second, things could have been different. Furlong, the former Southport, Burscough, Runcorn and Vauxhall Motors strike, is a proven goal scorer and in addition to his brace against Port, has scored 6 times in 9 league games. He will need to be watched closely on Friday. Port will have to become more consistent and perform more regularly at the level shown in the second half against Newtown. Another John Rowley hat trick, against his former club, would come in very handy! Visit to place a bet on Caernarfon v Porthmadog. 03/11/08 Whelo yn cael ei holi gan y Daily Post / Whelo quizzed by Daily Post Rheolwr Port Paul Whelan oedd testun colofn wythnosol Gareth Bicknell yn y Daily Post ddydd Gwener. Yn y cyfweliad mae Whelo yn edrych ar ei brofiad cyntaf yn rheoli yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru (UGC). “Mae’n gam mawr,” meddai. “Mae’n dipyn fwy proffesiynol ond ryda ni’n gwneud yn iawn. Ar hyn o bryd ein blaenoriaeth ydy aros yn y gynghrair, gan adeiladu a gobeithio medrwn orffen yng nghanol y tabl. Cawn ni weld ar ôl ’Dolig.” Mae o’n edrych at y bartneriaeth rhwng Jiws a John Rowley, sydd eisoes wedi dod a 17 o goliau, i ysbrydoli’r tîm a’u codi i fyny’r tabl. “ Mae gan Marc brofiad mawr felly mae o’n ddelfrydol inni. Mae o’n gwneud yn dda a gobeithio y bydd hyn yn parhau. Mae John hefyd wedi gwneud yn reit dda – mae’n bartneriaeth eithaf da.” Pan ofynnwyd iddo am yr amddiffyn, sydd wedi gollwng 29 o goliau mewn deg gêm UGC, gan arwain at yr anghysondeb sydd wedi bod yn nodwedd yn chwarae Port eleni, dywedodd, “Ryda’n ni’n gadael gormod o goliau i fewn a rhaid inni geisio roi stop ar hynny, ond cefais fy mhlesio yn ein gêm gynghrair ddiwethaf yn erbyn Y Drenewydd.” Pan ofynnwyd iddo am y rhaniad yn y gynghrair, i ddwy adran o ddeg clwb, a fydd yn digwydd ar ôl y tymor nesaf bu Whelo yn ddigon doeth i gyfaddef nad oedd wedi ystyried y peth o gwbl gan ychwanegu, “Dewch inni orffen y tymor hwn gyntaf!” Port manager Paul Whelan was featured last Friday in Gareth Bicknell’s weekly column in the Daily Post. In the interview Whelo looks back at his first experience in charge of a WPL club. “It’s a big step up,” he observed. “It’s a bit more professional but we’re doing okay. At the moment our priority is to stay in the league, but we’re just building up and hopefully we can finish in mid-table. We’ll see after Christmas.” He is looking to the partnership between Jiws and John Rowley, which has already produced 17 goals this season, to fire his side up the table. “Marc’s got great experience so he is ideal for us. He’s doing well and I hope it carries on. John’s done alright too –it’s quite a good partnership.” When asked about the defence which has leaked 29 goals in 10 WPL games leading to the inconsistency which has been such a feature of Port’s play this season he commented, “We’re conceding a lot of goals and we’ve got to try and stop that, but I was pleased with our last league performance against Newtown.” Asked about the WPL split into two divisions of 10 clubs after next season Whelo wisely confessed that he had not given the matter a second thought, adding, “Let’s finish this season first!” 30/10/08 Rhagolwg Cwpan Cymru Rownd 3 / Preview Welsh Cup Round 3 Cawn doriad o’r cynghrair y penwythnos yma a mynd am daith i Wrecsam i chwarae Lex XI clwb o’r Cymru Alliance. Mae angen cymryd pob gwrthwynebydd yn y Gwpan o ddifri am fod yna lawer gormod i’w golli o beidio mynd ymlaen i’r rownd nesaf. Mae Lex wedi cychwyn yn dda yn y gynghrair eleni gan ennill pedair o’u wyth gem gyda dwy yn gorffen yn gyfartal. Ddydd Sadwrn, yn erbyn Rhuthun, oedd y tro cyntaf iddynt golli adref eleni mewn chwe gêm. Daeth ei perfformiad gorau o’r tymor hyd yma yn erbyn clwb Campbell Harrison, Hotspyr Caergybi, sydd a siawns gwirioneddol o ennill dyrchafiad eleni, a hynny o 5-0. Yn y gêm hon sgoriodd Keiron Jones, prif sgoriwr y clwb, dair gwaith. Nid oes gwefan gan Lex ond mae sawl chwaraewr a enwir yn eu carfan ar wefan y Cymru Alliance yn gyfarwydd i ddilynwyr Port ers ein amser yn y CA. Mae’r enwau yn cynnwys Jamie McNeil –mab Dixie- a Rene Pinard chwaraewr arall sydd wedi cynrychioli nifer o glybiau CA dros y blynyddoedd. Bydd angen perfformiad da ddydd Sadwrn ac os gawn un tebyg i’r ail hanner yn erbyn Y Drenewydd, bydd gennym siawns dda i fod yn yr het ar gyfer y 4ydd rownd. A break from the league after last Saturday’s excellent win and performance at the Traeth takes Port to Wrexham to meet Cymru Alliance opponents Lex XI. As always in the Cup opponents must be taken very seriously and Port have much to lose by not making further progress in the competition. Lex have made a good start to their league campaign winning four and drawing twice in their eight games. They suffered their first home defeat in 6 games last Saturday against Ruthin Town. Their season’s best performance came in the shape of a 5-0 thumping of Campbell Harrison’s promotion hopefuls Holyhead Hotspur with leading scorer Kieron Jones scoring a hat trick. The Lex club doesn’t have a website but the squad listed on the Cymru Alliance site includes names familiar to Port supporters from our time in that league. Jamie McNeil (son of Dixie) and Rene Pinard, another player who has represented several CA clubs, are amongst them. We need a good performance on Saturday and if we have a repeat of the second half against Newtown we could be in the hat for Round 4. 30/10/08 Yr Ail Dîm ym mis Hydref / Reserves October Round-up Chwaraeodd yr Ail Dîm dair gêm gynghrair yn ystod y mis gan ennill dwy a roedd hyn yn ddigon i’w codi i’r ail safle yn nhabl Teejac.com Gwynedd tu ôl i Blaenau Ffestiniog. Dechreuwyd y mis gyda buddugoliaeth glir yn Llanfairfechan o 5-1. Cafodd Danny Rylance hat tric arall gyda Iestyn Woolway a Steven Jones yn sgorio’r ddwy arall. Ond yr wythnos ganlynol colli oedd yr hanes yn erbyn Biwmares, clwb yng ngwaelodion yr adran. Hon oedd buddugoliaeth gyntaf Biwmares a ddaeth diolch i ddwy gôl yn y 9 munud olaf. Mark Pritchard a Daniel Luke oedd y sgorwyr i Port. Ond yr oedd Port yn ôl yn eu hwyliau gorau erbyn ymweld a Phrifysgol Bangor lle ddaeth buddugoliaeth o 5-3 gyda Steven Jones yn sgorio ddwywaith ac Iwan Williams, Danny Rylance a Iestyn Woolway hefyd yn canfod y rhwyd. Yng nghanol y gemau cynghrair cafwyd buddugoliaeth yng Nghwpan Canolradd yr Arfordir, sef cystadleuaeth newydd. Y gwrthwynebwyr oedd Llansannan o Gynghrair Clwyd. Aeth Llansannan ar y blaen ond cafwyd pedair gôl yn yr ail hanner i sicrhau buddugoliaeth o 4-1. Sgoriwyd dwy o’r goliau gan Cai Jones, sydd ond yn 16 oed, gyda Danny Rylance a Iestyn Woolway yn ychwanegu’r lleill. Ddydd Sadwrn nesaf bydd yr Ail Dîm yn ymweld a Blaenau Ffestiniog ar gyfer Cwpan John Smith Gwynedd gyda’r gic gyntaf am 1.30 pm. The Reserves played three league games during a month recording two wins, which was enough to lift them into second place in the Teejac.com Gwynedd League table with Blaenau Ffestiniog still out in front. They started the month with a clear cut victory at Llanfairfechan by 5-1. Free scoring Danny Rylance notched up another hat trick with the other goals coming from Iestyn Woolway and Steven Jones. But the following week they came a cropper at Beaumaris and that against a side who had been struggling at the bottom of the table. The Anglesey club gained their first win of the season by a 4-2 margin thanks to two goals in the last 9 minutes. The Port goals came from Mark Pritchard in the first half and Daniel Luke in the second period. The Reserves, however, were back on form against Bangor University recording a 5-3 victory with Steve Jones scoring twice and Iwan Williams, Danny Rylance and Iestyn Woolway scoring one each. In amongst the league games the Reserves also progressed in the new NWCFA Intermediate Cup. They found themselves a goal down at the interval against Clwyd. League opponents Llansannan but struck back in the second period with 16 year old Cai Jones getting his name on the score sheet twice, and Danny Rylance and Iestyn Woolway scored the others for a 4-1 win. Next Saturday the Reserves are in Cup action again visiting Blaenau Festiniog in the John Smith Gwynedd Cup with a 1.30 pm kick off. 29/10/08 Cefnogwyr ifanc yn y frwydr yn erbyn hiliaeth / Young fans join the fight against racism Cyn y gêm yn erbyn y Drenewydd dydd Sadwrn dangosodd chwaraewyr y ddau glwb nad oes lle i hiliaeth mewn pêl-droed. Roedd y digwyddiad yn rhan o ymgyrch ar draws Uwchgynghrair Cymru gyda’r bwriad o ddangos pa mor annerbyniol yw hiliaeth. I gyfleu y neges dangosodd pob un o’r chwaraewyr, ynghyd â’r mascots, Siân a Lisa, y cerdyn coch i hiliaeth. Before Saturday’s game against Newtown, players from both sides showed that there is no place for racism in football. This was one of a number of events across the Welsh Premier intended to show that racism is totally unacceptable. To make the point, each of the players, as well as the mascots, Siân and Lisa, showed a red card to racism. 29/10/08 Porthmadog Services yn cefnogi Port / Porthmadog Services support Port Yn y llun mae cadeirydd CPD Porthmadog yn derbyn siec oddi wrth Mike Jones cynrychiolydd prif noddwr y clwb ar gyfer 2008/09. Mae’r clwb yn falch o’r cysylltiad hwn gyda Porthmadog Demolition a Blaen Cefn Skips, is-gwmnïau ‘Porthmadog Services Group’, cwmnïau lleol llwyddiannus. Mae’r clwb yn hynod o ddiolchgar i’r cwmni am eu cefnogaeth hael ac yn edrych ymlaen i’r bartneriaeth fod o fudd i’r ddwy ochr. Pictured is Port chairman Phil Jones receiving a cheque from Mike Jones representing the club’s new main sponsor for 2008/09. The club is pleased to be associated with Porthmadog Demolition and Blaen Cefn Skips, subsidiaries of Porthmadog Services Group, and highly successful local companies. The club board is extremely grateful to the new sponsors for their generosity and look forward to the new partnership benefiting both parties. 27/10/08 Gêm Lex yn cychwyn am 2 o’r gloch / Lex game kick’s off at 2 pm. Dylai’r cefnogwyr sy’n bwriadu teithio i Wrecsam ar gyfer 3edd Rownd Cwpan Cymru, ddydd Sadwrn nesaf, nodi fod y gic gyntaf am 2 o’r gloch. Mae gemau Cwpan Cymru yn cael eu setlo ar y dydd, a felly os bydd y sgôr yn gyfartal ar ôl 90 munud chwaraeir hanner awr o amser ychwanegol a, phe fyddai angen, ciciau o’r smotyn. Nid oes yna lif oleuadau ar gae Lex –Parc Stansty- a hyn sydd yn creu yr angen am gychwyn cynnar. Er nad oes yna oleuadau, mae hen gae ymarfer clwb Wrecsam fel arfer yn un da ar gyfer chwarae pêl-droed. Supporters travelling to Wrexham for Saturday’s Welsh Cup 3rd Round match should note that the game will kick off at 2 pm. Welsh Cup ties have to be completed on the day and in the event of the scores being level after 90 minutes extra time will be played and, should it be necessary, the game could be decided on penalties. The Lex ground, at Stansty Park, does not have floodlights and this makes the early kick off necessary. However the ground does usually provide a good playing surface as it was formerly the Wrexham FC training pitch. 27/10/08 Hysbys da i’r Gynghrair / A good advertisement for the WPL Llongyfarchiadau i Aberystwyth a TNS am yr hysbys ardderchog a gafwyd nos Sadwrn yn dangos y Gynghrair ar eu orau. Roedd y gêm yn adloniant gwych a dylai’r safon uchel a welwyd arwain at fwy o gemau byw o UGC ar y teledu. Da oedd gweld Cymry ifanc fel Luke Sherbon a Siôn Evans, yng nghanol cae Aberystwyth, yn dangos y math o ddoniau sydd i’w gweld yn y gynghrair erbyn hyn. Roedd Coedlan y Parc mewn cyflwr ardderchog er gwaetha’r tywydd, a da iawn cyhoedd Aberystwyth am y gefnogaeth frwd i’r gêm. Dyma’r ail waith y tymor hwn inni weld gêm fyw o safon ac mae cwmni Rondo yn haeddu canmoliaeth am delediad gwerth chweil. Congratulations to Aberystwyth Town and TNS for providing such an excellent advertisement for the high standard of play now seen in the WPL. The game provided great early evening entertainment and will surely lead to more live WPL football on television. It was great to see young Welsh players like Luke Sherbon and Siôn Evans, in the Aberystwyth midfield, showing the quality that now exists within the league. Park Avenue was in great condition despite the torrential rain and well done to the Aberystwyth public for turning up in such numbers. This is the second high quality live match this season and the TV Company Rondo deserves praise for the excellent presentation. 25/10/08 Rhagolwg v Y Drenewydd / Preview: v Newtown Mae’r Drenewydd wedi cael y llaw uchaf ar Port dros y blynyddoedd. Ers cychwyn UGC yn 1992/93 mae’r ddau glwb wedi chwarae ei gilydd 22 gwaith gyda Phorthmadog ond yn llwyddo i ennill ddwywaith ac yn cael 4 gêm yn gyfartal. Ond nid oes dim anochel yn y math yma o batrwm. Llynedd roedd Port ar eu ffordd i fuddugoliaeth ond gadawyd Y Drenewydd yn ôl i’r gêm a chollwyd o 3-2 gyda Marc Lloyd Williams yn sgorio'r gôl holl bwysig i’r tîm o’r canolbarth. Roedd llawer wedi disgwyl gweld Jiws yn dychwelyd i’r Drenewydd o’r Rhyl cyn i Port ddod ymlaen a sicrhau ei lofnod. Mae’r Drenewydd yn y 10 fed safle ar ôl cychwyn yn weddol dda gyda tair buddugoliaeth– dwy o’r rhain oddi cartref - a dwy gêm gyfartal. Wrth gymharu perfformiad y ddau glwb, gwelwn fod Y Drenewydd wedi cael gêm gyfartal gyda Prestatyn tra fod Port wedi colli o 5-2 ar Ffordd Bastion. Ar y llaw arall, cafodd Port fuddugoliaeth dda yn erbyn Airbus gyda’r Drenewydd yn colli iddynt o 1-0 ar Barc Latham. Efallai mai canlyniad gorau’r Drenewydd eleni oedd y gêm ddi-sgôr yn erbyn TNS. Bydd Port a’r Drenewydd yn ystyried y gêm hon yn gyfle am dri phwynt. Gêm gynghrair nesaf Port ar ôl hon fydd ymweliad â’r Oval ac wedyn rhaglen anodd iawn gyda gêm adref yn erbyn y pencampwyr Llanelli ac wedyn dwy daith hir i Hwlffordd ac wedyn Port Talbot. Mae’r gêm ddydd Sadwrn felly yn hynod bwysig, a gyda amddiffyn tynnach mae’n bosib sicrhau buddugoliaeth. Ewch i i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Y Drenewydd. To say that Newtown are Port’s bogey team would be an understatement! Since the formation of the WPL in 1992/93 the two clubs have played each other on 22 occasions with Port managing only two wins and 4 draws in all that time. There is, however, nothing inevitable about this pattern. Last season, Port outplayed Newtown for most of the game but ended on the wrong side of a 3-2 score line thanks to a late goal by Marc Lloyd Williams. Jiws had been expected to return to Newtown from Rhyl until Port nipped in to secure his signature. Newtown lie in 10th spot, following a reasonable start, with three wins – two of them on the road - and two games ending all square. Form comparison shows that Newtown secured a draw at home to Prestatyn while Port conceded a disappointing five goals last Friday at Bastion Road. Port, on the other hand, have defeated Airbus while Newtown went down at home to the Airfield club. Arguably Newtown’s best performance of the season was a goalless draw at home to TNS. Both sides will see the clash as an opportunity to pick up three points. After their league game at the Oval on November 7th, Port face a very difficult programme entertaining champions Llanelli and then two long journeys to Haverfordwest and Port Talbot. Saturday’s game is vital and a tighter defensive performance could produce a win. Mae rhestr gemau'r tymor wedi’i gyhoeddi bellach. Ewch i dudalen yr Academi i gael y manylion am y gemau hyn ac i gael gwybodaeth am y gemau sydd wedi eu chwarae hyd yn hyn. Porthmadog Academy’s under-11s are competing in this year’s Welsh Schools FA Tom Yeoman Shield. A fixture list for the season has now been published. Visit the Academy homepage for details of these fixtures and for information on the games played as yet. 21/10/08 Timau'r academi v Caernarfon ddydd Sul / Academy teams v Caernarfon on Sunday Ar ôl dechrau llwyddiannus iawn i’r tymor, bydd cyfle i weld timau academi Porthmadog yn chwarae gartref ddydd Sul hwn. Eu gwrthwynebwyr fydd yr hen elyn Caernarfon mewn gemau cwpan. Bydd yr holl gemau’n cael eu chwarae yng Nghlwb Chwaraeon Madog, gyda’r timau dan 12 a dan 14 yn chwarae am 10.30am a’r tîm dan 16 yn dechrau chwarae am 12pm. Cofiwch bod y manylion diweddaraf am dimau’r academi ar gael yma. After a very successful start to the season, there will be an opportunity to see Porthmadog’s academy teams play at home this Sunday. Their opponents are the old enemy Caernarfon in cup encounters. All the matches will be played at Clwb Chwaraeon Madog, with the under-12 and under-14 matches kicking off at 10.30am and the under16s kicking off at 12pm. Remember that the latest info on the academy teams is available here. 21/10/08 Gemau ar nos Wener a dydd Sul yn unig? Friday and Sunday matches only? Yn ei golofn wythnosol yn y Daily Post dywedodd Gareth Bicknell, “Gallai gemau pnawn Sadwrn gael eu disodli’n gyfan gwbl er mwyn chwarae ar nos Wener neu pnawn Sul, ar ôl i’r gemau dros y penwythnos diwethaf ddenu torfeydd mor dda.” Chwaraewyd pob un o gemau’r penwythnos ar nos Wener neu pnawn Sul oherwydd gêm Cymru yng Nghwpan y Byd yng Nghaerdydd. Eleni mae John Deakin wedi cynnwys mwy o gemau ar nos Wener nag erioed o’r blaen ac o’r dystiolaeth mae’n medru pwyntio at dipyn o lwyddiant. Mae Prestatyn, er enghraifft, wedi denu torfeydd da iawn ar nos Wener a daeth 427 i Ffordd Bastion nos Wener diwethaf pan oedd Port yno. Mae gan y clwb gyfartaledd o 401 hyd yma eleni. Cafodd Bangor dorf o 502 bnawn Sul i’w gêm yn erbyn Port Talbot. Meddai Deakin, “Mae’n gwestiwn a ddylem fod yn chwarae ar ddydd Sadwrn o gwbl. Nid yw’r Sadwrn traddodiadol yn gweithio i’n cynghrair ni – mae yna ormod o bethau eraill sy’n denu pobl.” Cawn dystiolaeth bellach am boblogrwydd nos Wener o Blas Kynaston, cartref Derwyddon Cefn. Ar nos Wener cawsant dorfeydd o 336 a 308 tra ar y Sadwrn dim ond 85, 70 a 77 aeth i’w gweld. Nid yw newid cyfan gwbl i nos Wener yn apelio i bawb. Byddai newid fel hyn yn fantais pellach i’r timau llawn amser gyda’r chwaraewyr rhan amser yn chwarae ar ôl diwrnod o waith. Dywedodd Doug Mortimer, yn siarad dros Rhyl, y clwb sydd a’r gefnogaeth orau yn y gynghrair, “ ... rhaid i’r gynghrair ddangos hyblygrwydd tuag at y clybiau sy'n denu torfeydd mawr ar y Sadwrn.” Mae cadeirydd Bangor, Ken Jones, yn pwyntio at broblemau a fyddai chwaraewyr i’w glwb o Fanceinion neu Lerpwl yn cael i gyrraedd gemau rheolaidd ar nos Wener. Dwywaith mae Port wedi chwarae adref ar nos Wener gan gael torf o 303 i gêm Y Rhyl –sef llai na’r dorf arferol i gemau yn erbyn Y Rhyl yn y gorffennol- ac ond 173 i gêm Derwyddon Cefn. 279 ydy cyfartaledd torfeydd Port hyd yma eleni, gyda’r gem yn erbyn Bangor yn denu 409. In his weekly column in the Daily Post Gareth Bicknell says “Saturday games could be scrapped in favour of Friday and Sunday fixtures following bumper attendances last weekend.” Last weekend’s games were either played on Friday or Sunday because of Wales’ World Cup Qualifying match in Cardiff. John Deakin has included more Friday fixtures than ever in this season’s fixture list and the evidence points to some success. Prestatyn have certainly drawn good crowds by playing their games on Friday and last Friday’s game with Port drew 427 and the club now has an average home gate of 401. Bangor drew a crowd of 502 for their Sunday game against Port Talbot. Deakin said “It begs the question whether we should be playing games on a Saturday. The traditional Saturday doesn’t work for our league –there are so many other attractions.” Further evidence for Friday being the day comes from Plas Kynaston the home of Cefn Druids. The Druids drew Friday crowds of 336 and 308 whereas they have had derisory Saturday crowds of 85, 70 and 77. The complete switch to Friday does not command universal support. A switch to Friday could be a further advantage to the full time clubs with the part timers having to put in a day’s work before playing. Doug Mortimer spokesman for Rhyl the league’s best supported club said “… the league must remain flexible for those clubs which enjoy big attendances on a Saturday.” Bangor chairman, Ken Jones, points to the problems many City players from Manchester and Liverpool would have for regular Friday evening games. Port have so far played twice on a Friday with the game against Rhyl drawing a gate of 303 –fewer than would be expected for a similar Saturday game- and Cefn attracting only 173. Port’s average league gate for the season so far stands at 279 with the Bangor game drawing 409. 20/10/08 Hogiau'r Bonc yng Nghlwb y Traeth / Hogiau'r Bonc at Traeth Clubhouse Bydd Hogiau'r Bonc yn cael eu croesawu yn ôl i Glwb y Traeth ar nos Sadwrn 8 Tachwedd yn dilyn noson llwyddiannus iawn yn y Traeth yn gynharach eleni. Bydd y noson yn dechrau am 7.30pm a bydd y tocynnau ar werth yn Siop Eifionydd a Kaleidascope am ddim ond £3. Hogiau’r Bonc will make a welcome return to the Traeth Clubhouse on Saturday 8 November following a successful evening at the Traeth earlier in the year. The evening starts at 7.30pm and tickets will be on sale at Siop Eifionydd and Kaleidascope for only £3. 16/10/08 Cyrsiau'r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed / Football Association Courses Cynrychiolwyd Port ar gyrsiau dau ddiwrnod a drefnwyd gan y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed yng Nghaerdydd dros y penwythnos. Arweiniodd y cadeirydd, Phil Jones, grwp o gynrychiolwyr y clwb mewn cyfres o weithdai a gynlluniwyd i gynorthwyo clybiau gyda’r broses drwyddedu. Bydd sicrhau’r Drwydded yn angenrheidiol er mwyn i glybiau ennill neu gadw eu haelodaeth o Uwch Gynghrair Cymru o 2010/11 ymlaen. Roedd Port yn un o’r clybiau a oedd yn anelu at y Drwydded Domestig. Roedd eraill a’u llygad ar gymhwyso ar gyfer Ewrop ac yn bresennol er mwyn sicrhau Trwydded llawn UEFA. Roedd mynd i'r gweithdai yma yn rhan bwysig o’r meini prawf angenrheidiol ar gyfer sicrhau'r drwydded. Ddydd Gwener roedd Phil Jones, Dorothy Williams a Gareth Williams yng Ngwesty’r Fro i’r Gweithdy Cyfryngau gyda Swyddog Media’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed, Ceri Stenett yn arwain y gwaith. Ddydd Sadwrn roedd yna ddau weithdy ym Mhencadlys y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed gyda Geraint Evans ac Angela Roberts yn bresennol yn y Gweithdy Ariannol a Gareth Parry a Rhys Roberts yn yr un ar Reolau’r Gêm a arweiniwyd gan y dyfarnwyr Mark Whitby, Dean John a Darren Adey. Hefyd ar y dydd Sadwrn roedd Meirion Parry, Siôn Williams a Phil Jones ym Mharc Ninian ar gyfer y gweithdy ar Ddiogelwch mewn caeau pêl-droed, gyda Wayne Nash, Prif Swyddog Diogelwch clwb pêl-droed Caerdydd. Manteisiodd nifer o’r cynrychiolwyr ar y cyfle i fod yn bresennol yng nghyfarfodydd John Toshack gyda’r wasg cyn ac ar ôl y gêm a hefyd i ymweld â chanolfan y wasg yn Stadiwm y Mileniwm. Porthmadog FC were well represented at the two-day training course organised by the FAW and held in Cardiff over the weekend. Club chairman, Phil Jones lead a group of club representatives attending a series of workshops designed to assist clubs with the Club Licensing process. Obtaining a Club Licence will become essential in order to gain or retain membership of the Welsh Premier League from 2010/11. Port was one of the clubs aiming for this Domestic Licence. Other clubs, with their eye on qualification for European tournaments, were attending in order to gain a full UEFA Licence. Attendance at these workshops will form part of the required criteria for obtaining the licence. On Friday Phil Jones, Dorothy Williams and Gareth Williams attended the Media Workshop held at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel with FAW Media Officer, Ceri Stennett in charge of proceedings. On the Saturday workshops took place at FAW Headquarters with Geraint Evans and Angela Roberts attending the Financial Workshop lead by UEFA expert Sefton Perry and Gareth Parry and Rhys Roberts the workshop on the Laws of the Game with the course leaders referees Rodger Gifford, Mark Whitby, Dean John and Darren Adey. Meirion Parry, Siôn Williams and Phil Jones were at Ninian Park for the Ground Security Workshop with the course being lead by Wayne Nash Head of Security for Cardiff City. Some of the Port representatives also took the opportunity to attend the pre and post match press conferences given by John Toshack and also to visit the press and media area at the Millennium Stadium. 15/10/08 Rhagolwg: v Prestatyn / Preview: v Prestatyn Y tro diwethaf i’r ddau glwb yma gyfarfod oedd yng Nghwpan Cymru dau dymor yn ôl pan sicrhaodd gwelliant ail hanner fuddugoliaeth o 4-2 i Port. Mae llawer wedi digwydd ers hynny gyda Prestatyn yn gwneud dechrau da iawn yn UGC. Ar hyn o bryd maent yn y 10fed safle ar ôl ennill dwy gêm a tair yn gorffen yn gyfartal. Hyn yn eu roi tri phwynt ar y blaen i Port. Hefyd mae’r clwb yn dal yn ddiguro adref gan ennill dwy a’r ddwy arall yn gyfartal. Maent hefyd wedi denu torfeydd da iawn i’w cae ar Ffordd Bastion ar gyfer gêmau nos Wener. Er cael eu curo’n drwm yn Llanelli ddydd Sul, gyda’r amddiffynnwr Bevan Humphreys a’r blaenwr Ian Griffiths yn cael eu anfon o’r maes, dangoswyd ysbryd y clwb ar ei orau wrth iddynt roi sioc fawr i TNS nos Fawrth. Bu’n rhaid i’r clwb o Groesoswallt ddibynnu ar gyfnod euraidd i ddod yn ôl o 3-0 i ennill yn y diwedd o 4-3. Mae Port yn dal yn anghyson iawn a gadawodd peth amddiffyn llac iawn, yn erbyn Cefn, i’r ymwelwyr gipio eu tri phwynt cyntaf o’r tymor. Bydd angen tipyn gwell trefn yn y cefn nos Wener. Ar ben arall y cae gwelwyd digon o cyfleoedd yn cael eu creu ac mae John Rowley a Marc Lloyd Williams wedi canfod y rhwyd 13 o weithiau rhyngddynt. Yn y ddwy gêm ddiwethaf hefyd cafwyd goliau gan Gareth Parry. Mae Port yng nghanol cyfres o gêmau hynod o bwysig ac mae angen y pwyntiau wrth i’r clybiau yn y gwaelodion wasgu yn agosach at eu gilydd. The last time Port took on Prestatyn was two seasons ago when a second half recovery gave them a 4-2 Welsh Cup win. A great deal has happened since and Prestatyn have made an excellent start in the WPL. They are in 10th place with two wins and three draws which gives them three more points than Porthmadog. They remain unbeaten at home, in the league, with two victories and two games ending all square. They have also been drawing some excellent crowds to their Bastion Road Ground for Friday evening fixtures. Despite losing heavily at Llanelli on Sunday, and having defender Bevan Humphreys and forward Ian Griffiths sent off, they showed the fighting spirit which exists in the club enabling them to give TNS a mighty scare on Tuesday. The Oswestry club needed a purple patch to recover from being 3-0 down to win 4-3 at the end. Port continue to be inconsistent, and error ridden defending was again a problem against Cefn Druids, who gratefully took advantage to record their first win of the season. It goes without saying that a huge improvement at the back will be called for on Friday. At the other end chances have been created and John Rowley and Marc Lloyd Williams have found the net 13 times between them. Gareth Parry has also been on the score sheet in each of the last two games. Port are in the midst of some crucial fixtures and need the points as the clubs at the bottom draw closer to each other. 15/10/08 Timau'r Academi yn Rhyl / Academy teams face Rhyl Ar ôl seibiant o ychydig wythnosau, bydd timau'r Academi yn cael cyfle i barhau â’r dechrau da i’r tymor y penwythnos hwn. Ond bydd hon ddim yn dasg hawdd, gan mai’r gwrthwynebwyr ddydd Sul fydd y Rhyl! Bydd gemau’r timau dan 16 ac 14 yn dechrau am 11am ar y Belle Vue. Bydd y tîm dan 12 yn chwarae yn y Ganolfan Hamdden dros y ffordd am 12.30. After a brake for a couple of weeks, the Academy teams will have a chance to continue their excellent start to the season this weekend. But it won’t be an easy task, as their opponents on Sunday are Rhyl! The under 16 and 14 teams will kick off at 11am on Belle Vue. The under 12s kick off at 12 in the Leisure Centre opposite. 08/10/08 Rhys a Richard yn cyrraedd 100 / Rhys and Richard become centurions Mae Richard Harvey a Rhys Roberts ar fin dechrau eu canfed gêm UGC dros Port. Dim ond un ymddangosiad arall sydd angen ar Richard i gyrraedd y garreg filltir hon a dylai wneud hynny ar Y Traeth nos Wener pan fydd Derwyddon Cefn yn ymweld a’r Traeth. Dylai Rhys gyrraedd yr un garreg filltir wythnos yn ddiweddarach pan fydd Port yn ymweld a Phrestatyn. Llongyfarchiadau i’r ddau yn enwedig gan eu bod wedi cyrraedd y cant mewn ychydig dros dri thymor. Mae hyn yn glod i ffitrwydd a chysondeb y ddau. Bu Port yn ffodus iawn fod Richard wedi chwarae mor reolaidd ac am gyfnodau pan nad oedd unrhyw golwr profiadol wrth gefn i gymryd ei le. Mae’r ffaith fod Rhys ar fin cyrraedd y cant ac yntau ond yn 23 oed yn dangos chwaraewr mor allweddol y mae wedi bod, a hynny o’r amser cyntaf yr ymunodd â Port o Langefni. Da iawn hogiau –ymlaen am dri tymor arall i gyrraedd 200! Richard Harvey and Rhys Roberts are both on the verge of making their 100th WPL start for Porthmadog. Richard needs only one more appearance to reach the target and is expected to reach this milestone on Friday at the Traeth when Porthmadog entertain Cefn Druids. Rhys should reach the same milestone a week later when Port visit Prestatyn. Congratulations to both players on their coming achievement which is all the more notable in that it has only taken them just a little over 3 seasons to do so. This is testimony to the consistency and fitness of both players. Port have been extremely fortunate that Richard has figured so regularly because for long periods there was no adequate goalkeeping cover for him. For Rhys to reach this landmark at the age of 23 is of considerable credit to him. He has remained a regular from the time he joined Porthmadog from Llangefni. Well done lads –now the 200 mark is a mere three seasons. |
