Golwr newydd yn arwyddo /New keeper signs

Liam Shanahan, llun gan/ picture by Jay Edwards Gyda’r ffenest drosglwyddo ar fin cau â Richard Harvey yn dal allan gyda anaf mae Paul Whelan wedi arwyddo Liam Shanahan golwr 18 oed sydd wedi bod yn chwarae yn rheolaidd yn y Cymru Alliance i Hotspyrs Caergybi, clwb sydd a’u golygon ar ddyrchafiad i UGC. Cynt fe dreuliodd Liam amser gyda Manchester City a Tranmere Rovers. Mae’n cael ei ddisgrifio ar wefan yr Hotspyrs fel golwr ddi-ofn, yn uchel ei gloch ac yn ‘shot-stopper’ ardderchog.

With the transfer window about to close and Richard Harvey still sidelined manager Paul Whelan has signed Liam Shanahan an 18 year old keeper who has been a regular between the sticks, in the Cymru Alliance this season, for Anglesey promotion contenders Holyhead Hotspur. He has previously spent time with both Manchester City and Tranmere Rovers. He is described by the Hotspur’s website as a fearless keeper, very vocal and a great shot stopper.

Rhagolwg: v Caersws / Preview: v Caersws

CaerswsSgoriwyd 18 o goliau yn y ddwy gêm ddiwethaf ar Y Traeth. Braf iawn i’r gwyliwr niwtral ond mae’n dechrau dweud ar nerfau cefnogwyr Port erbyn hyn. O am fuddugoliaeth ddiflas 1-0! Er fod yna dri mis o’r tymor yn dal i’w chwarae mae’r gêm hon yn erbyn Caersws eisoes yn un am y chwe pwynt diarhebol ac yn un a allai gael dylanwad mawr ynglŷn a pwy sy’n mynd i lawr ar ddiwedd tymor. Rhaid i Port ddod allan o rhediad gwael gyda ond un buddugoliaeth yn y saith gêm ddiweddaraf. Dylai tair gôl wych a blaenoriaeth o 3-1 ychydig ar ôl yr awr fod wedi sicrhau tri phwynt ddydd Sadwrn diwethaf. Gobeithio fydd Port yn troi chwarae da yn bwyntiau y tro yma.
Mae profiad Caersws wedi bod yn hollol i’r gwrthwyneb i brofiad Port. Eu problem hwy ydy sgorio gyda dim ond 19 gôl y tymor hwn –gyda cyn chwaraewr, Port David Hughes, yn un o’r tri sydd yn brif sgorwyr y clwb ar dair gôl. Ond ar y llaw arall 32 gôl sydd wedi mynd i rhwyd Caersws i’w gymharu a 60 i rhwyd Port. Mae’r clwb o’r canolbarth yn dal heb ennill oddi cartref ond wedi dod yn gyfartal pum gwaith. Yn y chwe gêm ddiwethaf maent wedi ennill un a dod yn gyfartal tair gwaith. Yn ystod y ffenestr drosglwyddo maent wedi colli yr amddiffynwyr Rob Williams a Gareth Sudlow ond wedi arwyddo amddiffynnwr arall Mike Holt o’r Rhyl.

The last two games at the Traeth have produced a grand total of 18 goals. It may give the neutral spectator a highly entertaining afternoon but for home supporters the nerves are beginning to fray –a 1-0 victory would be very nice! Though there are three months of the season left the clash with Caersws is already an important six pointer and could have a strong bearing on relegation matters at the end of the season unless Port snap out of their current run of form which has produced one win and six defeats in seven games. Three fine goals and a 3-1 lead just after the hour mark should have meant three points last Saturday. Let’s hope this time round Port can capitalise on some of their good play.
Caersws’s experience has been in direct contrast to that of Port. Their problem has been scoring goals managing only 19 this season –with former Port winger David Hughes a joint leading scorer on 3 goals- but they have only conceded 32 in comparison to Port’s 60. They are yet to win on the road managing five draws. Their current form shows one win in the last six but also three draws. Though they have lost defenders Rob Williams and Gareth Sudlow during the transfer window they have added Mike Holt a defender from Rhyl.

Hat tric wych Jiws / Jiws’s marvellous hat trick

Marc Lloyd Williams Mae’n dorcalonnus i sgorio hat tric wych a dal i fod yn aelod o’r tîm sy’n colli. Dyna oedd hanes Jiws, sydd eisoes wedi sgorio dwy gôl mewn gêm ar bump achlysur y tymor hwn. Fo ydy’r ail chwaraewr i sgorio hat tric i Port y tymor hwn yn dilyn un gan John Rowley yn erbyn Caernarfon yng Nghwpan Cymru. Roedd y ddau beniad gan Jiws yn goliau o safon ac yn ganlyniad i symudiadau da ond roedd yr ergyd o 40 llath ymysg y goliau gorau a welwyd ar y Traeth erioed. Daw’r dair gôl yma a’i gyfanswm goliau yn UGC i 294 ac felly mae’n closio at y targed enfawr o 300 o goliau. Dwywaith yn ystod tymor 1993/94 sgoriodd Jiws bedair gôl mewn gêm dros Port. Daeth y cyntaf yn erbyn Treffynnon ym mis Ionawr a’r llall yn erbyn Hwlffordd ym mis Mawrth.

It must be heartbreaking to score such a fantastic hat trick and still end up on the losing side. Jiws, who has already scored twice in a game on five occasions this season, became the second Port player to register a hat trick this season. John Rowley scored the other one against Caernarfon in the Welsh Cup. The two headers from Jiws were quality goals with a good build up but the strike from fully 40 yards must rate amongst the finest seen at the Traeth. These three goals bring his all-time WPL tally up to 294 and he is closing in on a remarkable 300 career goals. On two occasions in season 1993/94 Jiws scored four times in a game for Port. The first was against Holywell Town in January followed by another four against Haverfordwest Co. in March.

Rhagolwg: v Airbus Brychdyn / Preview: v Airbus Broughton

Airbus Ymweliad Airbus a’r Traeth ddydd Sadwrn fydd y cyntaf o dair gêm yn erbyn gwrthwynebwyr sydd mewn safle tebyg yn hanner isaf y tabl. Pan gyfarfu’r ddau glwb ar Y Maes Awyr ym mis Medi enillodd Port am y tro cyntaf y tymor hwn o 3-0 –canlyniad haeddiannol ond efallai fod y gwahaniaeth goliau heb fod yn adlewyrchiad hollol deg. Er eu bod wedi colli yn reit drwm ddydd Sadwrn yn erbyn Llanelli mae Airbus wedi ennill tir ar ôl buddugoliaeth hwyr dros Y Drenewydd nos Fercher. Mae George Stewart wedi ymuno ar fenthyg o Wrecsam a Gareth Sudlow wedi dychwelyd i’r clwb o Gaersws ond derbyniodd Tom Rowlands gerdyn coch yn erbyn Llanelli.
Colli fu hanes Port yn erbyn un o’r ‘Tri Mawr’ y penwythnos diwethaf ond roedd y perfformiad yn dda ac yn werth nodi fod gwelliant mawr yn y cefn. Gyda’r canlyniadau yn mynd yn erbyn Port dros y penwythnos -Cefn, Castell Nedd a Chaersws yn ennill- mae’r clybiau yn yr hanner isaf wedi closio at eu gilydd. Does dim angen pwysleisio felly fod hon yn gêm bwysig gyda un buddugoliaeth neu colli un gêm yn cael cryn effaith ar y tabl.
Ewch i Coral i roi bet ar Porthmadog v Airbus Brychdyn.

Saturday’s visit by Airbus to the Traeth is the first of three matches against clubs who are similarly placed in the lower half of the table. When the two clubs last met at the Airfield back in September Port picked up their first win of the season by 3-0 –a deserved win but by a margin which probably flattered us. Though they went down heavily at home to Llanelli last week the Wingmakers gained ground with their late victory over Newtown. George Stewart has joined on Airbus on loan from Wrexham while Gareth Sudlow has returned from Caersws but striker Tom Rowlands received a straight red against Llanelli.
Port also went down to one of the ‘Big Three’ last weekend but they gave a good account of themselves against very strong opposition and worth noting was the far better defensive performance. With results tending to go against Port last weekend, Caersws, Neath and Cefn picking up three points, the lower half clubs are now closely bunched. There is no need therefore to add that this is a vital game with one win or one defeat having a considerable effect on the table.

Jonathan Peris yn gadael Port / Jonathan Peris leaves Port

Alan Bickerstaff Mae Jonathan Peris Jones wedi gadael Port i ymuno gyda Llangefni, clwb sy’n brwydro’n galed i ddychwelyd yn syth yn ôl i fyny i Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Chwaraeodd Jonathan, a gynrychiolodd tîm Dan 18 Ysgolion Cymru, ei gêm gyntaf i Port yn nhymor 2003/04 ac ers hynny mae wedi chwarae 8 (+18) gêm i’r tîm cyntaf gan amlaf yn yr amddiffyn. Treuliodd y tymor diwethaf 2007/08 gyda Glantraeth. Dymunwn yn dda iddo i’r dyfodol. Mae Gerard McGuigan, cyn golwr Port, wedi symud hefyd. Chwaraeodd 64 o weithiau i Port yn ystod 2003-05 cyn symud i’r Rhyl a wedyn i’r Trallwng. Mae o’n dychwelyd i UGC rwan i chwarae i Derwyddon Cefn.

Jonathan Peris Jones has left Port to join Llangefni Town currently in the Cymru Alliance but making a strong challenge for a quick return to the WPL. Jonathan, a Welsh Schools U18 cap, made his Port debut in season 2003/04 and since then has made 8 (+18) first team appearances mainly as a defender. He spent season 2007/08 at Glantraeth. The club wishes him well in the future. Former Port goalkeeper Gerard McGuigan is also on the move. He played 64 games for Port in seasons 2003-05 before moving on to Rhyl and then Welshpool. He has now returned to the WPL and joined Cefn Druids.

Allan Bickerstaff yn canmol Port a Whelo / Allan Bickerstaff praises Port and Whelo

Alan BickerstaffMae bob amser yn braf i glywed pethau da yn cael eu dweud am eich clwb a’i rheolwr a dyna ddigwyddodd cyn ac ar ôl y gêm yn erbyn Y Rhyl ddydd Sadwrn. Gwnaeth Allan Bickerstaff, prif hyfforddwr Y Rhyl a’r gŵr a helpodd gadw statws Port y llynedd, sylwadau caredig tu hwnt am glwb Port ac am eu rheolwr Paul Whelan. Cyn y gêm dywedodd, "Does gen i ond atgofion hapus iawn am glwb bendigedig ac rwy’n dal yn gyfeillgar iawn gyda’u rheolwr Paul Whelan sydd yn gwneud gwaith gwych yna."
Wedyn ar ôl y gêm ychwanegodd ar ‘Sgorio Cymru’, "Mae bob amser yn gêm anodd yn erbyn Porthmadog. Mae’n glwb sydd wedi’u drefnu’n dda ac mae Paul yn gwneud gwaith arbennig, ac fel y profwyd heddiw maent yn dîm anodd iawn i’w curo."
Ar yr un rhaglen ymatebodd Paul yn ei ffordd gonest arferol gan ddweud am y gêm, "Dim ond un cyfle gawson ni drwy’r gêm ond gweithiodd yr hogiau yn galed i gefnogi’u gilydd. Chwaraeodd yr amddiffyn yn dda a gwnaeth y golwr nifer o arbediadau da iawn. Ond ar ddiwedd y dydd roedd y canlyniad yn un teg."

It is always a pleasure to hear good things being said about your club and its manager and that is what happened both before and after Saturday’s match against Rhyl. Allan Bickerstaff, Rhyl head coach and the man who helped to save Port last season, made complimentary comments about the Port team and gave high praise to current Port manager Paul Whelan. Before the game he said, "I’ve nothing but extremely happy memories of a fabulous club and I am still very good friends with manager Paul Whelan, who is doing a tremendous job there,"
Then after Saturday’s game he added, on S4C’s ‘Sgorio Cymru’, "It’s always a tough game against Porthmadog. They’re set up very well and Paul’s done a magnificent job and it proved today that they’re a very tough team to beat."
Paul himself, on the same programme, gave his usual honest response to the game, "We had one chance throughout the whole game but the lads worked well for each other. The defence played well and the goalkeeper made some great saves. But it’s a fair result at the end of the day."

Rhagolwg: v Y Rhyl / Preview: v Rhyl

Rhyl Ar ôl cael toriad o dair gêm oherwydd y tywydd allai Port ddim gofyn am gêm anoddach nac ymweld a’r clwb sydd ar ben y tabl – y Rhyl. Er eu bod wedi colli ddwywaith yn annisgwyl yn ddiweddar ar y cyfan mae’r dref a fu'n hoff gyrchfan yr hen dripiau Ysgol Sul wedi chwarae’n wych y tymor hwn yn enwedig yn erbyn Llanelli yn y gêm fyw ar S4C. Y tro diwethaf i Port a’r Rhyl gyfarfod enillodd Y Rhyl o 3-0 ar Y Traeth – canlyniad braidd yn annheg ar yr hogiau gan iddynt fod cystal a’u gwrthwynebwyr cefnog am gyfnodau hir o’r gêm. Mae canlyniadau diweddar Y Rhyl yn dangos eu bod wedi ennill chwech a cholli dwy o’u wyth gem ddiwethaf tra fod Port wedi ennill tair a cholli pedair gyda un gêm gyfartal (yn erbyn Llanelli). Mae’r hyn sydd wedi digwydd hyd yma yn awgrymu buddugoliaeth gyfforddus i’r Rhyl ond rhaid dal i gredu fod codi gêm yn bosib fel yn erbyn Llanelli ac yn yr ugain munud olaf i sicrhau buddugoliaeth dros Cei Conna. I weld fod sioc yn bosibl cofiwch am gêm olaf tymor 2007/08! Mae’n syndod sylwi hefyd mai ond un gôl oedd yn rhwng y ddau glwb mewn pump o’r saith gêm ddiwethaf rhwng y ddau. Rhaid byw mewn gobaith ...
Ewch i Coral i roi bet ar Rhyl v Porthmadog.

Having had an enforced winter break of three matches Port could hardly find themselves with a more difficult encounter than a visit to league leaders Rhyl. Despite a couple of unlikely recent slip-ups, the men of Sunny Rhyl have been in outstanding form this season, and none more impressive than their Live TV victory over 2007/08 champions Llanelli. The previous encounter between Port and Rhyl ended in a 3-0 win for Rhyl at the Traeth but the score line on the night was rather harsh on Port as they matched their expensively assembled opponents for long periods. Current form shows that Rhyl have won six and lost two of their last eight games while Port have won three drawn one (against Llanelli) and lost four. Events so far this season tell us that the league leaders should win comfortably but we must pin our hopes on the lads raising their game as they did against Llanelli and as they did in the last 20 minutes to overcome Connah’s Quay. We need look no further than the last game of last season to see how shocks can occur. Surprisingly five of the last seven games between the two clubs have been decided by just a single goal. Let’s keep hoping …!

Dyddiad newydd i ymweliad Caersws / New date for Caersws visit

Caersws Mae’r gêm rhwng Port a Chaersws, a oedd i fod i gael ei chwarae ddydd Sadwrn diwethaf, wedi’i adrefnu ar gyfer pnawn Sadwrn, 31 Ionawr gyda’r gic gyntaf am 2.30pm.Roedd yn bosib adrefnu ar gyfer y dydd Sadwrn gan fod y ddau glwb allan o Gwpan Cymru. Nid oes dyddiad wedi’i gytuno eto ar gyfer y gêm ar Ffordd Ffarar yn erbyn Bangor.

The home league fixture against Caersws which was to be played last Saturday has now been re-arranged for Saturday January 31st with the usual 2.30 kick off time. As neither side is involved in the Welsh Cup 4th Round, on that date, it has been possible to re-schedule the game for a Saturday afternoon. No date has yet been fixed for the visit to Farrar Road to play Bangor.

Port yn y Deg Uchaf yn yr Herald / Port in Herald Top Ten

Dave Jones Mae Dave Jones o’r Herald wedi cynnwys dwy o gemau Port yn ei Ddeg o Uchafbwyntiau Chwaraeon Gwynedd yn 2009. Y cyntaf oedd y fuddugoliaeth munud olaf yn erbyn y Rhyl ym mis Ebrill. Mae’n ysgrifennu:
"Doedd peniad Richard Hughes o agos ar ôl 53 munud yn sicr ddim yn y ras am gôl y tymor ond oherwydd ei arwyddocâd, roedd yn un o goliau pwysicaf hanes Porthmadog. Roedd Port angen ennill yn erbyn un o’r ceffylau blaen, y Rhyl, ac yna gobeithio fod y timau eraill oedd yn wynebu’r cwymp, Caersws a Llangefni, yn colli. Daeth y freuddwyd yn wir ac arhosodd Port i fyny gan ddod a llawenydd Traeth."
Ei ddewis arall oedd gêm olaf 2009 ar y Traeth yn erbyn Cei Conna. "Un o gemau mwyaf rhyfeddol yn hanes Porthmadog yn UGC. Roedd Cei Conna ar y blaen o 5-1 gydag 20 munud i fynd, pan anfonwyd un o’u chwaraewyr i ffwrdd gan newid pethau’n ddramatig. Trodd Port bethau wyneb i waered drwy sgorio pum gwaith cyn y chwiban olaf, gyda’r prif sgoriwr yn hanes Cynghrair Cymru yn taro dwywaith yn y munudau olaf."

Dave Jones of the Caernarfon and Denbigh Herald included two Port games in his Top Ten Gwynedd Sporting Highlights of 2009. The first was the last gasp win against Rhyl back in April. He writes:
"Richard Hughes’ 53rd minute close range header was certainly not a contender for goal of the season but its significance made it one of the most important goals in Porthmadog’s history. Port needed to win against high flyers Rhyl and then hope other relegation candidates Caersws and Llangefni lost. The fairytale came true and Port survived at a buzzing Traeth."
His other choice was the last game of 2009 at the Traeth against Connah’s Quay. "One of the most remarkable matches in Porthmadog’s WPL history. Leading 5-1 with 20 mins to go, Connah’s Quay had a man sent off and the picture changed dramatically. Port turned the tables by scoring five times before the final whistle, WPL record marksman notching the last two in the closing minutes."

Achos balchder i Llanllyfni / Llyfni take it as a compliment

Chris Parry Pan gyhoeddodd rheolwr Port, Paul Whelan, ei fod wedi arwyddo Chris Parry; cymrodd cyn glwb Chris, Llanllyfni, hyn fel pluen yn eu het.
"Mae’n bluen yn ein het ar ôl y cyfan rydym wedi'i gyflawni, fod Chris yn cael y cyfle hwn, ac rwy’n siwr y bydd yn cystadlu am le yn nhîm cyntaf Porthmadog," meddai Kevin Sherret, chwaraewr rheolwr Llanllyfni, wrth Dave Jones o’r Herald. Ychwanegodd "Mae Chris wedi bod efo ni ers y cychwyn ac yn aelod holl bwysig o’r tîm. Mae’n syndod ei bod wedi cymryd mor hir i un o’r clybiau mwy ddod ar ei ôl. Mae yn yr oed rwan i wneud y cam i fyny ac rwy’n dymuno’n dda iddo."
Fel ddywedodd un o gyfranwyr Tudalen Drafod y wefan, mae’n braf gweld agwedd fel hyn pan mae clwb bach yn colli chwaraewr allweddol er mwyn iddo gael cyfle ar lefel uwch.
Nododd yr Herald hefyd fod y digwyddiad yn achos balchder i glwb a gychwynnodd mor ddiweddar a 2005 ac sydd wedi codi o Gynghrair Caernarfon, drwy Gynghrair Gwynedd, a rwan wedi cyrraedd y Welsh Alliance.

The announcement by Port manager Paul Whelan that he had signed Chris Parry is being taken as a feather in their cap by Chris’s former club Llanllyfni.
"It’s a great compliment to Llanllyfni and all we’ve achieved as a club that Chris is getting this opportunity and I’m sure he’ll be competing for a first team place for Porthmadog." said Llyfni’s player-manager Kevin Sherret when speaking to Dave Jones, of the Caernarfon and Denbigh Herald.
He added, "Chris has been with us from the beginning and has always been a very important part of the team, I’m surprised it’s taken this long for one of the bigger clubs to approach him. He’s at the age now where he’s ready for the step up and I wish him all the best."
As one of the contributors to the website’s Discussion Board noted such an attitude is refreshing when a smaller club is pleased to see one of its key players leaving to be given a chance at a higher level.
As the Herald also noted that it was one of the proudest moments yet for a club born as recently as 2005 which has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence, winning the Caernarfon and District and Gwynedd League championships en route to reaching the Welsh Alliance.

Newid i’r rhestr gemau / Fixture changes

Cei Conna/Connah's Quay Mae dau newid wedi eu cadarnhau i restr gemau Porthmadog, gyda’r gêm oddi-cartref yn erbyn Castell-nedd yn cael ei symud i 28 Chwefror gan fod gêm rygbi yn cael ei chynnal ar y Gnoll ar y dyddiad gwreiddiol (18 Ebrill). Fel gweddill y gemau a gafodd eu gohirio ar 1 Ionawr, bydd gêm oddi-cartref Port yn erbyn Cei Conna yn cael ei chwarae ar ddydd Llun y Pasg (13 Ebrill). Gemau Port felly dros benwythnos y Pasg, penwythnos poblogaidd gyda’r cefnogwyr yn y gorffennol, fydd gêm gartref yn erbyn Hwlffordd a gêm oddi-cartref yn erbyn Cei Conna. Cyfle arall i ddenu’r torfeydd wedi mynd? Nid oes cadarnhad eto ynglyn â phryd y bydd y gemau a ohiriwyd yn erbyn Bangor a Chaersws yn cael eu chwarae.

Two changes have been confirmed to Port’s fixtures, with the away match against Neath being switched to 28 February as a rugby match is being played on the Gnoll on the original date (18 April). Like the remainder of the matches called off on 1 January, Port’s away match against Connah’s Quay will be played on Easter Monday (13 April). Port’s opponents over the Easter weekend, a weekend that has proven popular with spectators in the past, will be a home match against Haverfordwest and an away match against Connah’s Quay. Another opportunity to attract the crowds missed? There’s no confirmation yet as to when the matches called off against Bangor and Caersws will be played.

Gêm Port v Caersws wedi'i gohirio / Port v Caersws called off

Ar ôl gorfod cynnal archwiliad o'r cae am 8.30am doedd hi'n fawr o syndod fod y dyfarnwr lleol J. P. Roberts wedi gorfod gohirio'r gêm yn erbyn Caersws. Y rheswm dros orfod cynnal archwiliad mor gynnar oedd fod dyfarnwr y gêm yn dod o ardal Port Talbot.

After being forced to conduct a pitch inspection at 8.30am, it wasn't a huge surprise that local ref J. P. Roberts had to call off the game against Caersws. The reason for such an early pitch inspection was that the match referee was from the Port Talbot area.

Rhagolwg: v Caersws / Preview: v Caersws

Caersws Ar ôl cael toriad oherwydd y caeau rhewllyd, bydd y clybiau yn gobeithio ailgydio yn eu tymor dros y penwythnos - ond amheus ydy’r rhagolygon gyda’r tywydd rhewllyd yn dal efallai efo ni am ychydig ddyddiau eto. Os wnaiff y tywydd oer ildio gyda’r tymheredd yn dechrau codi, bydd Port yn croesawu Caersws i’r Traeth bnawn Sadwrn. Ar ôl drama y gêm ddiwethaf ar y Traeth, bydd mwyafrif y cefnogwyr yn barod i dderbyn y triphwynt heb y tân gwyllt y tro hwn. Eisoes mae Caersws wedi curo Port ddwywaith y tymor hwn, yn y gynghrair a wedyn yng Nghwpan y Gynghrair ond mae eu canlyniadau wedi dirywio’n ddiweddar. Nid yw’r clwb o’r canolbarth wedi ennill yr un o’u chwe gêm ddiwethaf, yn colli pedair a dwy yn gyfartal. Dros yr un cyfnod, mae Port wedi ennill dwy a cholli pedair. Bydd y ddau glwb yn gweld y gêm fel cyfle i sicrhau triphwynt er mwyn osgoi ail adrodd helyntion diwedd tymor 2007/08. Mae Dave Taylor wedi arwyddo Kevin Scott o Langollen, chwaraewr â phrofiad blaenorol yn UGC gyda Derwyddon Cefn, Bangor a’r Drenewydd. Ond byddant heb wasanaeth Robbie Williams, chwaraewr ar fenthyg sydd wedi dychwelyd i TNS, na chwaith Aeron Edwards sydd wedi’i wahardd. Tra fod problemau Port wedi bod yn y cefn y tymor yma yn gadael 54 o goliau i mewn, ar y pen arall mae problemau Caersws ond yn sgorio 18 drwy’r tymor.

Having had an enforced winter break, clubs hope to resume their season over the weekend, though the weather prospects remain very doubtful with the freezing weather forecast to continue for a few more days at least. Should the weather relent and temperatures start to rise, Port are due to entertain Caersws at the Traeth. Entertain was the right word to describe events at the Traeth last time out but most supporters would plump for the three points without the last minute drama. Caersws have already notched a league and a league cup victory over Port early in the season but their form has taken something of a slump in recent weeks. They have not won any of their last six games, losing four and drawing twice. Over the same period, Port have won twice and lost four. Both sides will see Saturday as an opportunity to pick up the three points and hope to avoid the same relegation dog fight as last season. Manager Dave Taylor has brought in Kevin Scott an experienced defender who has played for Cefn, Bangor and Newtown. He now joins the Bluebirds from Llangollen. They will however be missing the services of on loan Robbie Williams who has been recalled by TNS and Aeron Edwards who is suspended. Whilst Port’s problems this season have been at the back conceding 54 goals, Caersws have found scoring difficult with only 18 coming all season.

Cyn chwaraewyr yn symud / Former players on the move

Gareth Caughter Mae dau o gyn chwaraewyr Port wedi symud ers i'r ffenest drosglwyddo agor. Mae Gareth Caughter, a chwaraeodd am nifer o dymhorau ar Y Traeth, wedi ymuno a’i gyn gyd chwaraewr Campbell Harrison, sy'n rheolwr yng Nghaergybi ac yn arwain y frwydr am ddyrchafiad i UGC. Cyn chwaraewr arall sydd wedi symud ydy Richard Smart, sydd hefyd yn gadael Airbus. Mae’r amddiffynnwr wedi ymuno ag Upton AA sydd ar hyn o bryd yn ail yng Nghynghrair Gorllewin Caer.

Two former Port players have moved during the January transfer window. Gareth Caughter, a midfielder who spent many seasons at the Traeth, has left Airbus to join his former colleague Campbell Harrison now in charge at Holyhead and making a strong challenge for promotion to the WPL. Richard Smart, a defender, who was with Port last season, has also left Airbus to join Upton AA who are currently second in the West Cheshire League.

Y farn yn troi yn erbyn y "Super 10" / Voices raised against the "Super 10"

Mae yna fwy o leisiau yn codi yn erbyn y cynllun i adrefnu’r gynghrair a sefydlu’r "Super-10" yn nhymor 2010/11. Dywedodd Mike Beech, ysgrifennydd clwb Derwyddon Cefn, wrth Gareth Bicknell o’r Daily Post " ... beth sydd angen ar UGC –canlyniad fel y cawsom ni (yn curo’r Rhyl), y canlyniad a gafodd Airbus (yn curo TNS), a’r canlyniad a gafodd Cei Conna (yn erbyn Llanelli).
Un arall sydd wedi mynegi gwrthwynebiad cryf i gynghrair dwy adran ydy ysgrifennydd Port, Gerallt Owen. Ysgrifennodd yng ngholofn ‘Talking Point’ yn rhaglen y clwb. "Rwyf, erbyn hyn, yn hollol sicr fod y penderfyniad yn mynd i fod yn drychineb i’r 10 y tu allan i Adran 1. ...buom yn ddigon gwirion i gytuno i’r newid dramatig hwn heb gyfle i feddwl y peth drwyddo, ac yn y mwyafrif o achosion heb ymgynghori yn ein clybiau.

More voices are questioning the merits of the proposed league reorganisation to establish a "Super 10" for season 2010/2011. Speaking to Gareth Bicknell in the Daily Post the Cefn Druids secretary Mike Beech said "... what the WPL needs –the result we had (beating Rhyl), the result Airbus had (beating TNS) and the result Connah’s Quay had (beating Llanelli).
Another who has come out strongly in opposition to the two division league is Port secretary Gerallt Owen. In the Talking Point column in the Port match programme he writes, "I am now convinced that this decision will be disastrous for the 10 not in Division One ... we all stupidly agreed to this dramatic change without any chance to think it through properly and in most cases without proper consultation within the clubs.

Rhagfyr yr Ail Dîm / Reserves December Round-up

Nid oedd Rhagfyr yn fis da i’r Ail Dîm wrth iddynt golli tair gêm yn olynol. Yn y gêm rhwng yr ail a’r trydydd yn y gynghrair yng Nghaergybi colli fu hanes Port o 4-2 gyda Danny Rylance a Richard Jones yn sgorio. Roedd gwaeth i ddod wrth iddynt golli o 4-0 mewn gêm gwpan, ar Y Traeth, yn erbyn Bodedern tîm arall o’r Ynys. Gyda pethau’r dal i fynd ar i lawr dioddefwyd curfa o 7-2 yn erbyn y cymdogion o Llanystumdwy gyda Arfon Jones yn sgorio hat tric i’r enillwyr. Richard Jones ac Adam Griffiths sgoriodd i Port a orffennodd y mis yn y 4ydd safle. Oddi ar y cae ni fu pethau’n dda chwaith gyda’r clwb yn colli apêl yn erbyn tynnu tri phwynt ar ôl gohirio’r gêm yn erbyn Y Bontnewydd. Ar ddiwedd y mis hefyd penderfynodd cyd rheolwr yr Ail Dîm, Steve Smith, sydd wedi rhoi blynyddoedd o wasanaeth i’r clwb, rhoi’r gorau i’w swydd. Adrian Jones, un arall sydd wedi bod yn was da i’r clwb, fydd bellach yn cynorthwyo John Williams.

December was not a good month for the Reserves as they slumped to three successive defeats. They visited Holyhead for a game between second and third placed sides but went down by 4-2 with Danny Rylance and Richard Jones scoring for Port. Worse was to follow in the Premier Cup at the Traeth where they suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of another Anglesey club, Bodedern. The downward spiral continued, and in the derby game at Llanstumdwy they received a 7-2 hammering with Arfon Jones scoring a hat trick for the winners. Adam Griffiths and Richard Jones scored for Port who ended the month in 4th spot. Events off the field proved no better as the club lost its appeal against the deduction of three points following the postponement of the match against Bontnewydd and Steve Smith, a long serving joint manager of the club, resigned and John Williams will now be assisted by Adrian Jones another long time servant of the club.

Chris Parry yn ymuno gyda Port / Chris Parry joins Port

Mae Paul Whelan wedi symud ar unwaith ar ôl i’r ffenestr drosglwyddo ail agor ar 1 Ionawr i gryfhau’r garfan. Cyhoeddodd y clwb heddiw (ddydd Gwener) fod chwaraewr canol cae Llanllyfni (o’r Welsh Alliance) wedi arwyddo. Cafodd y chwaraewr 24 oed brofiad hefyd gyda Chaergybi a Dyffryn Nantlle. Cwblhawyd y trosglwyddiad ddydd Iau a byddai wedi bod ar gael ar gyfer y gêm yn erbyn Bangor -ond cafodd y gêm honno ei gohirio. Disgwylir nad hwn fydd yr unig ychwanegiad at y garfan yn ystod y mis gan fod Port hefyd yn edrych i gryfhau amddiffyn sydd wedi gweld 54 o goliau yn cael eu sgorio yn eu herbyn mewn 18 gêm.

Paul Whelan has moved quickly to bolster his squad after the January transfer window opened. The club has announced today (Friday) that Llanllyfni midfielder Chris Parry has signed. The 24 year old midfielder has previous experience with Holyhead Hotspur and Nantlle Vale. The move was completed on Thursday and he would have been eligible to play against Bangor had the match not been called off. It is anticipated that this will not be the only addition during the month as Porthmadog look to strengthen their squad and bolster a defence that has conceded a massive 54 goals in 18 games.

Yr Ail Dîm yn newid rheolwr / Change of manager for the Reserves.

Mae Steve Smith wedi ymddiswyddo o fod yn gyd-rheolwr yr Ail Dîm. Bydd y chwaraewr profiadol Adrian Jones yn ymuno gyda John Williams i gydreoli am weddill y tymor. Chwaraeodd Adrian dros Port yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru am nifer o flynyddoedd. Yn chwaraewr talentog iawn bu yn ychwanegu ei brofiad i gynorthwyo hogiau ifanc yr Ail Dîm ers nifer o flynyddoedd.

Steve Smith has stepped down as Joint Manager of Porthmadog Reserves with immediate effect. Senior player Adrian Jones joins John Williams as joint manager for the remainder of the season. A gifted midfield player Jones played for the Club in the Welsh Premier for a number of seasons and has been adding his experience to the Youthful Reserve side for a number of years.

Rhagolwg: v Bangor / Preview v Bangor

Dinas Bangor CityGyda gemau Ddydd Calan i gyd wedi’u gohirio mae’n golygu nad yw bellach yn bosib i glwb sydd yn gorfod chwarae ddwywaith wynebu clwb arall ar y Sadwrn a gafodd ddiwrnod o segurdod ar Ddydd Calan. Gan nad oes galw ar i glybiau Uwch Gynghrair yn Lloegr chwarae ddwywaith mewn tridiau pam felly roedd yna ddisgwyl i chwaraewyr rhan-amser yng Nghymru wneud?
Bydd Port yn ymweld a Ffordd Ffarar gyda’r atgofion am gael eu trechu dair gwaith yn barod eleni gan glwb Bangor. Daw’r gêm gynghrair ar Y Traeth ac atgofion drwg iawn wrth i Port golli o 6-0 a dyna pryd yr amlygwyd fod Port yn mynd i gael trafferth yn y cefn eleni. Ond cafwyd cryn welliant gan Port ers hynny, ac wrth ymosod maent bob amser yn edrych yn beryglus ac yn debygol o sgorio. Bydd Whelo yn awyddus iawn, yn erbyn ei hen glwb, i wneud yn iawn am y colledion blaenorol ond gan sylweddoli y bydd ymosodwyr o safon Les Davies a Chris Sharp yn cymryd mantais o unrhyw flerwch yn y cefn. Ond gyda’r tywydd yn dal i fod yn oer iawn mae yna bosibilrwydd y gall y tywydd amharu ar drefniadau ddydd Sadwrn.

With a total wipe out of the New Year’s Day WPL programme at least it means that the prospect of clubs having to play a second fixture within three days and that maybe against opponents who had enjoyed a day off is no longer possible. With Premier League clubs in England not being asked to play twice in 3 days it comes as a surprise that part time players in Wales were being asked to do so.
Port will visit Farrar Road with memories of three defeats already at the hands of their local rivals. The league encounter at the Traeth, especially, brings very bad memories of a 6-0 caning and with it the first signs that we would struggle at the back this term. But Port have improved greatly since that day to forget, and going forward have always looked dangerous and likely to score goals. Whelo especially will want to wipe out that bad memory against his old club but will know that strikers of the calibre of Les Davies and Chris Sharp will take advantage of any slack play at the back. As the weather is set to continue cold there is a distinct possibility that this game on Saturday could fall foul of the freezing conditions.

Rhagolwg: v Cei Conna / Preview: v Connah’s Quay

Cei Conna/Connah's QuayBydd gan y gêm rhwng y ddau glwb ar lannau Dyfrdwy ar Ddydd Calan dipyn o sioe i’w ddilyn wedi’r digwyddiadau rhyfeddol ar Y Traeth ddydd Sadwrn. Gallai canlyniad y gêm nesaf ddibynnu ar ymateb chwaraewyr y ddau dîm i’r hyn a ddigwyddodd yn yr ugain munud olaf. Yn sicr iawn fydd gan Gei Conna rhywbeth i brofi iddynt eu hunain ac i bêl-droed yng Nghymru. Byddant felly yn dod at y gêm hon yn hollol benderfynol i ddangos mai gwiriondeb unwaith ac am byth oedd yr hyn a ddigwyddodd. Gofynnwyd y cwestiwn hwn, a hynny tu hwnt i Gymru hefyd, "Sut y gallai tîm a oedd ond wedi gadael 9 gôl i fewn mewn 9 gêm oddi cartref, cyn ddydd Sadwrn, yn sydyn ollwng 6 o goliau mewn 20 munud?" Nid oedd colli’r amddiffynnwr Phil Doran yn ddigon o eglurhad. Gallwn ond ddod i’r canlyniad mai’r ‘Funny Old Game Factor’ wnaeth godi ei ben unwaith eto. Profodd y gêm i Port eu bod yn dîm a’r gallu i ymosod a sgorio yn erbyn unrhyw un yn y gynghrair a mae hynny yn codi’r hyder at y gemau sydd i ddod. Ond bydd angen torri allan y camgymeriadau unigol yn y cefn a mynd ati i amddiffyn fel tîm gan na bydd dihangfa fel un ddydd Sadwrn yn digwydd eto. Dangosodd yr ail hanner mai Marc Lloyd Williams a John Rowley ydy’r pâr gorau o flaenwyr a gafodd Port ers i Jiws ffurfio’r bartneriaeth anhygoel honno gyda Dave Taylor.

The return encounter at the Deeside Stadium on New Year’s Day has a hard act to follow after the stirring events at the Traeth. The result of this game could hinge on the reaction of players to Saturday’s mind boggling final 20 minutes. One thing is certain the Nomads will have something to prove to themselves, and to the whole of Welsh football, and will approach the game with a steely determination to demonstrate that it was a temporary aberration –not to be repeated. The question that has been asked, even beyond Wales, is "How does a team which had only conceded 9 goals in their previous 9 away games suddenly concede 5 goals in 20 minutes?" Even the loss of defender Phil Doran does not explain that. We can only put it down to the Funny Old Game factor rearing its head again. The game however proved to Port that they can attack and can score goals against anyone in this league and that is an important confidence booster for the games ahead. They will however need to cut out the individual errors at the back and get down to defending as a team, for an escape like Saturday’s will not be repeated. The second half also showed that Marc Lloyd Williams and John Rowley are Port’s best pairing up front since Jiws forged his remarkable partnership with Dave Taylor.

Jiws yn sgorio eto / Jiws back on the goal trail

Marc Lloyd WilliamsDaeth goliau unwaith eto ddydd Sadwrn o droed Marc Lloyd Williams, y sgoriwr mwyaf yn hanes Uwch Gynghrair Cymru, ac roedd ei ddwy gôl hwyr yn holl bwysig yng nghyd destun y fuddugoliaeth fawr. Daw’r goliau yma a’i gyfanswm am y tymor yn y gynghrair i 13 ac yn ei roi yn 3ydd yn y rhestr sgorio am eleni y tu ôl i Rhys Griffiths (Llanelli) gyda 20 a Jac Christopher (Hwlffordd) ar 14. Mae Martin Rose (Port Talbot) hefyd ar 13 gôl. Wrth sgorio ddwywaith ddydd Sadwrn daw a chyfanswm Jiws, ers cychwyn y gynghrair, i 391 o goliau sydd yn dod a’r targed o’r 400 mawr yn bosib y tymor hwn.

Marc Lloyd Williams, the most prolific scorer in WPL history, was back on the goal trail on Saturday and his two late goals proved absolutely vital in the context of a remarkable win. These goals bring his WPL tally for the season up to 13 goals putting him in third place in this season’s list of goal scorers behind Rhys Griffiths (Llanelli) with 20 goals and Jack Christopher (Haverfordwest) with 14. Also on 13 is Martin Rose (Port Talbot). These goals bring his all-time tally up to 391 WPL goals which means that he is now got the magic 400 well within his sights.

Anrhegion Nadolig i rai... / Christmas presents for some...

Uwchgynghrair Cymru / Welsh PremierMae torfeydd Uwchgynghrair Cymru dros y ddau ddiwrnod diwethaf i’w canmol yn fawr. Siom felly ydy gweld nad ydy John Deakin a phenaethiaid yr Uwchgynghrair / FAW yn credu mewn rhannu yr anrhegion Nadolig yn deg rhwng y clybiau i gyd. Fel yr adroddodd y wefan yma nôl yn mis Mehefin (mwy...), Porthmadog a Chei Conna yw’r unig dimau yn y gynghrair sydd heb gael gemau darbi dros gyfnod y ‘Dolig.
Cafodd Caernarfon dros 5 gwaith yn fwy na’u torf gyfartalog, tra roedd torfeydd Hwllffordd a Rhyl 3 a ½ gwaith yn fwy na’r arferol. Roedd pob un o’r torfeydd yn dipyn uwch na’r arferol (TNS oedd salaf, gydag ond 16% yn fwy na’r arferol) – hynny ydy, pob gêm ond yr un ar y Traeth. Roedd torf Port o 213, 8% yn waeth na’r dorf gyfartalog am y tymor.
O ystyried y bydd trysoryddion Caernarfon a Rhyl yn cyfri’r miloedd o bunnoedd a gymrwyd ar y gât, mae’n amlwg fod clybiau Port a Chei Conna wedi derbyn cosb ariannol annheg iawn gan y gynghrair. Rhaid bod yn deg gyda’r holl glybiau. Pam fod rhaid i’r ‘run timau chwarae dwywaith dros y Nadolig? Beth sydd o’i le ar i Gaernarfon chwarae Bangor ar Wyl San Steffan a chwarae Porthmadog ar ddiwrnod Calan? Y flwyddyn wedyn gallai’r gemau gael eu cyfnewid i osgoi rhoi mantais annheg i unrhyw glwb.
Rhaid i hyn newid er mwyn sicrhau tegwch i bob clwb.
Darllenwch yr erthygl lawn.

The Welsh Premiership’s attendances over the past couple of days are to be congratulated. With this success in mind, it is sad to see that John Deakin and the Welsh Premiership / FAW have not shared the Christmas presents out fairly between all the league’s clubs. As this website reported back in June (more...), Porthmadog and Connah’s Quay are the only two clubs without a derby game over the Christmas period.
Caernarfon had 5 times their average crowd while Haverfordwest and Rhyl had 3 ½ times more than usual. Every other crowd was larger than usual (TNS were worst – only 16% more than usual) – that is, apart from the game at the Traeth. Port's attendance of 213 was actually 8% worse than the season’s average.
When it is considered that the treasurers at Caernarfon and Rhyl with be counting the thousands of pounds taken on the gate, it is clear that Port and Connah’s Quay have been severely short changed by the league. It is important to be fair with all the clubs. Why is it absolutely necessary for clubs to play the same club twice over the Christmas period? What is wrong with Caernarfon playing Bangor on Boxing Day and playing Porthmadog on New Year’s Day? The following year, the fixtures could be reversed to avoid any bias.
The current arrangements must be changed to ensure fairness for all clubs.

Rhagolwg: v Gap Cei Conna / Preview: v Gap Connah’s Quay

Cei Conna/Connah's Quay Gyda Port yn wynebu Cei Conna dros y gwyliau mewn un o’r gemau sydd ddim yn gêm ddarbi, rhaid cael ymdrech fawr i dorri ar rediad o golli pedair gêm yn olynol. Pam fod angen gemau gefn wrth gefn yn erbyn yr un tîm dros y gwyliau? Efallai y gall rhywun mewn awdurdod roi eglurhad. Mae Cei Conna, gyda chefnogaeth ariannol cwmni Gap, wedi cael tymor llawer iawn gwell na’r llynedd a dros y pedair gêm ddiwethaf maent wedi ennill dwy, gydag un gêm yn gyfartal. Mae hyn yn cynnwys buddugoliaeth nodedig dros Lanelli. Llynedd, sicrhaodd Port 4 pwynt yn y gemau cyfatebol. Eleni byddant yn gobeithio gweld Marc Lloyd Williams yn dod o hyd i’r rhwyd eto ar ôl pedair gêm hesb. Mae anafiadau a gwaharddiadau wedi cyfrannu at y canlyniadau siomedig diweddar ac ni fydd y sefyllfa hon yn newid rhyw lawer dros y gwyliau. Er fod y canlyniadau’n siomedig mae’r perfformiadau, heblaw am yr un yn erbyn Castell Nedd, wedi haeddu gwell. Ond bydd rhaid i Port fod ar eu gorau wrth groesawu Cei Conna i’r Traeth. Bydd y tîm o Lannau Dyfrdwy yn cynnwys Aden Shannon, sgoriwr cyson ac un o gyn chwaraewr y Trallwng yn ogystal ac Adam Dickenson sydd erbyn hyn wedi gwella o anaf hir dymor. Ond mae Tom Mutton, blaenwr profiadol arall, yn gadael i ymuno gyda’r Bala.

Porthmadog enter their Christmas non-derby matches knowing that they need to break the sequence of four straight defeats. Why do we need back to back games over the holiday? Maybe the powers that be can enlighten us. The Nomads, with financial backing from Gap, are enjoying a far better season than last year and come to this game, at the Traeth, with two wins and a draw in the last four games and one of those wins was a notable victory over Llanelli. Last season Port picked up 4 points from their games against the Nomads. Port will hope to see Marc Lloyd Williams finding his scoring touch again after 4 matches without finding the net. Injuries and suspensions have played their part in the poor recent run of results and this situation may be set to continue over the holiday period. Though the recent results have been disappointing the performances on the pitch, apart from the Neath game, have deserved better results. They will however need to be at their best against a Nomads side which includes former Welshpool striker, Aden Shannon, who has scored 6 league goals to date and Adam Dickinson who has now recovered from a long term injury. Another experienced forward, Tommy Mutton, is leaving the club to join Bala.

Hanner ffordd drwy’r tymor / Halfway point in the season

Gyda 17 o’r 34 gêm gynghrair eisoes wedi eu chwarae rydym hanner ffordd drwy’r tymor. Nid yw'n bosibl dweud, wrth inni gyrraedd yr hanner, ein bod yn bendant wedi cael gwared y peryg o ddisgyn. Taflodd hyn gwmwl dros y clwb drwy gydol tymor 2007/08. Ond cawn ein hun mewn gwell sefyllfa rŵan na’r amser yma llynedd gan ein bod wedi sicrhau 16 o bwyntiau ar ôl ennill 5 gêm gyda un yn gyfartal i’w gymharu a 12 pwynt llynedd o bedair buddugoliaeth. Y boen mwyaf ydy’r ffaith bod 49 o goliau wedi’u sgorio yn ein herbyn - dim ond 30 ar yr un adeg llynedd. Ond eleni mae llawer mwy o gyfleoedd wedi’u creu gyda’r tîm yn edrych yn dda wrth ymosod. Ffaith a adlewyrchir yn y 28 gôl a sgoriwyd eleni bron dwbl yr 15 a sgoriwyd llynedd. Wrth gyrraedd hanner ffordd y gofid mwyaf yw ein bod wedi colli pedair gêm yn olynol er nad ydym wedi chwarae'n wael. Rhaid torri ar y rhediad hwn yn fuan iawn neu byddwn yn cael ein tynnu fewn i’r frwydr ar y gwaelod un yn enwedig gan fod clwb fel Derwyddon Cefn wedi sicrhau buddugoliaethau da ac yn brysur cau’r bwlch.

The halfway mark in the season has been reached with 17 of the 34 games played. We reach this point without yet being able to declare that those relegation blues, which haunted us throughout last season, have been dispelled. We are however in a stronger position than in 2007/08 having gained 5 wins and a draw for 16 points as against the 12 points from four wins at this stage last season. The worrying aspect is of course the 49 goals conceded in comparison with 30 at the half way mark last season. But far more chances are being created this season with the team looking good going forward and this is reflected in the 28 goals scored almost twice last season’s 15 goals. As we reach the half way mark it is worrying, that despite not playing badly, the last four matches have ended in defeat. This situation must be quickly rectified or we will be drawn further into the dog fight at the bottom, especially as clubs like Cefn Druids have pulled off some fine wins and are steadily closing the gap.

Da gweld Marcus yn sgorio eto / Good to see Marcus back on the score sheet

Marcus OrlikRoedd yn dda gweld Marcus Orlik yn cychwyn gêm am y tro cyntaf y tymor hwn yn erbyn Caerfyrddin. Hyn yn dilyn yr anaf drwg a gafodd yn ystod gêm cyn dymor. Cafodd y cefnogwyr eu hatgoffa o’r hyn maent wedi’i fethu cynt, wrth i Marcus gymryd mantais o amddiffyn gwael i sgorio ar ôl dim ond deg munud . Y tro diwethaf iddo sgorio dros Port yn UGC oedd yn ôl ar 13 Mawrth yn Port Talbot pan sgoriodd ddwywaith gyda un o’r goliau yn ergyd wych o 25 llath.

It was great to see Marcus Orlik make his first start of the season against Carmarthen following a serious foot injury sustained during pre-season. He took only ten minutes to remind supporters of what they have been missing with a well taken opportunistic goal. The last time he found the net in the WPL was back on March 13th when he scored twice at Port Talbot with one of the goals resulting from a tremendous 25 yard free kick.

Coyne yn lladd ar y dyfarnwr / Coyne hits out at the refs

Mewn cyfweliad ar welsh-premier.com, mae rheolwr Aberystwyth, Brian Coyne wedi lladd ar ddyfarnwyr Uwch Gynghrair Cymru am fod yn rhy barod i ddangos y cerdyn coch. Roedd yn ymateb i’r ffaith fod dau o chwaraewyr Aber – Andy Evans a Colin Reynolds - wedi cael eu hanfon o’r cae yn eu dwy gêm ddiwethaf. Dywedodd "Mae’n cyrraedd sefyllfa lle nad yw’r chwaraewyr yn cael dod i gyswllt â’i gilydd". Roedd hefyd yn teimlo fod y dyfarnwr wedi bod braidd yn galed wrth anfon John Rowley i ffwrdd o’r cae: "Roeddwn i hefyd yn teimlo dros y chwaraewr Porthmadog a gafodd ei anfon i ffwrdd. Mae’r holl gardiau coch a melyn sy’n cael eu dangos yn difetha’r gêm ac mae wir angen gwneud rhywbeth." Ni roddodd y dyfarnwr unrhyw ystyriaeth i gyflwr gwael y cae cyn tynnu’r cerdyn coch o’i boced.

In an interview with welsh-premier.com, Aberystwyth manager, Brian Coyne has hit out at Welsh Premier League referees for being too eager to brandish the red card. He was reactig to the fact that two Aber players – Andy Evans and Colin Reynolds – had been sent off in their last two matches. He said "It is getting to the stage that our game is becoming a non- contact sport". He also felt that the ref had been a bit harsh in giving John Rowley his marching orders: "I also felt sorry for the Porthmadog player who got sent off, the number of bookings and red cards being shown is ruining the game and something really needs to be done." The ref made no allowance for the poor condition of the pitch before reaching for the red card from his pocket.

Rhagolwg: v Caerfyrddin / Preview: v Carmarthen

Caerfyrddin/Carmarthen Gwaith hawdd ydy darogan canlyniad y gêm ddydd Sadwrn. Bydd Caerfyrddin sy'n bedwerydd yn chwarae Port sy'n 13eg a tra fod yr ymwelwyr wedi ennill eu pedair gêm ddiwethaf colli tair gan ildio 13 o goliau fu hanes Port. Ond mae yna gysur i gefnogwyr y tîm cartref wrth edrych yn ôl ar hanes diweddar y gemau ar y Traeth rhwng y ddau glwb. Llynedd enillodd Caerfyrddin o 2-1 ond yn y bedair gêm flaenorol enillodd Port y cyfan gan ddod o hyd i’r rhwyd dair gwaith ym mhob un o’r gemau. Hefyd wrth i Marcus Orlik ddechrau ennill ei ffitrwydd mae’n werth atgoffa ein hunain o’r gôl wych a sgoriodd yn erbyn Caerfyrddin y llynedd. Dros y ddau fis diwethaf mae Port wedi bod yn glwb cystadleuol pan ar eu cryfaf ond yn cael hi’n anodd pan fod chwaraewyr allweddol fel Eifion Jones, Steve Kehoe a Rhys Roberts yn absennol. Rhaid cofio, er iddynt golli yn Hwlffordd ac Aberystwyth (gyda 10 dyn), dangoswyd y gallu i greu cyfleoedd a chwarae pêl-droed deniadol. Bydd yn rhaid perfformio’n gyson yn fwy rheolaidd i’r safon a ddangoswyd yn erbyn Y Drenewydd, Port Talbot a Llanelli. Bydd John Rowley, ar ôl derbyn coch yn Aberystwyth, ddim ar gael ddydd Sadwrn. Mi fydd yn gêm anodd oherwydd mae gan Caerfyrddin chwaraewyr o safon fel Nathan Cotterill, Stuart Roberts, Danny Thomas a Tîm Hicks yn ei carfan, ac ar eu gorau maent yn sialens i oreuon Uwch Gynghrair Cymru.

Predicting the result of Saturday’s game looks easy. Fourth placed Carmarthen taking on 13th placed Porthmadog with the visitors having won their last four games while Port on the other hand have lost their last three and conceded 13 goals in the process. There is some comfort for home supporters if we look at the recent history of games between the two clubs at the Traeth. Last season Carmarthen took all three points in a 2-1 victory but the previous four games at the Traeth produced fairly convincing victories for Port with the home side finding the net three times on each occasion. With Marcus Orlik beginning his return to match fitness it is worth reminding ourselves of his outstanding goal in last season’s encounter. Over the last two months Port have been competitive when at full strength, but have struggled when missing key players like Eifion Jones, Rhys Roberts and Steve Kehoe. Even in defeat, at Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth, they showed that they can create chances and play an excellent brand of football. But they need to find consistency and turn in regular performances like those against Newtown, Port Talbot and Llanelli. John Rowley, who received a straight red card at Aberystwyth, will be missing on Saturday. It will not be easy as Carmarthen have quality players like Nathan Cotterill, Stuart Roberts, Danny Thomas and Tim Hicks to call on and at their best they can provide a stern test for any in the WPL

Rhagolwg: v Aberystwyth / Preview: v Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth Y tro diwethaf i Port chwarae Aberystwyth cafwyd cweir go iawn ar Y Traeth ac roedd y perfformiad yn un i’w anghofio. Bydd canlyniad y gêm ddydd Sadwrn yn dibynnu llawer ar pa dîm Port fydd yn ymddangos ar y dydd – y tîm a ddychrynodd Llanelli ac aeth ymlaen i guro Port Talbot neu'r un a chwaraeodd mor siomedig yn erbyn Castell-nedd. Bydd Rhys Roberts yn ôl yn dilyn gwaharddiad a Steve Kehoe ar gael unwaith eto ond bydd Ryan Davies wedi’i wahardd ac Eifion Jones wedi’i anafu. Ar ôl methu dod o hyd i’r rhwyd am ddwy gêm, gobeithio fydd Jiws yn gallu cosbi un arall o’i gyn clybiau. Ond mae Aberystwyth wedi perfformio’n dda eleni gyda chwaraewyr fel eu prif sgoriwr Luke Sherbon, gyda 7 gôl, Chris Venables a Graham Evans yn ymosodwyr peryglus tra yn y cefn mae Christian Edwards ac Aneurin Thomas yng nghanol amddiffyn cadarn. Maent yn 6ed yn y tabl ac ond wedi colli unwaith ar Goedlan y Parc ac fel pob tîm Brian Coyne yn chwarae pêl-droed deniadol. Dros y chwe gêm ddiwethaf mae record y ddau glwb yn union yr un fath wedi ennill tair, colli dwywaith ac un gêm gyfartal.

The last time Port took on Aberystwyth resulted in a heavy defeat at the Traeth and a performance we would all wish to forget. Saturday’s outcome will very much depend on which Port side turns up on the day –the one that gave Llanelli a run for their money and went on to defeat Port Talbot or the one that performed so disappointingly last week at home to struggling Neath. Saturday will see Rhys Roberts back after suspension and Steve Kehoe available again but Ryan Davies will be suspended and Eifion Jones is injured. Having failed to find the net for two games let’s hope that Jiws is able to punish another of his former clubs. But Aberystwyth have been in good form this season with Luke Sherbon, leading scorer with 7 goals, Graham Evans and Chris Venables all showing their qualities in attack and Christian Edwards and Aneurin Thomas again the key men in a strong defence. They are placed 6th in the table with only one defeat at Park Avenue, and like all Brian Coyne teams they play an attractive brand off football. The form of both clubs over the last 6 games is identical with three wins a draw and two defeats.

Y cadeirydd yn trafod adrefnu UGC / Chairman talks about WPL reorganisation

Phil Jones Yn ei golofn wythnosol yn y Daily Post bu Gareth Bicknell yn holi cadeirydd Port, Phil Jones, am y bwriad i adrefnu UGC yn 2010/2011. Fel cynrychiolydd clybiau’r gogledd ar fwrdd y gynghrair, dywedodd Phil, "Byddaf yn galw cyfarfod o glybiau’r ardal nos Iau nesaf pan fydd ein ymateb i gynlluniau’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed yn cael ei drafod. Bydd yr ymateb hwn yn cael ei roi o flaen bwrdd y gynghrair ar 18 Rhagfyr.
Mynegodd ei gonsyrn am y newidiadau, "Mae rhai clybiau yn poeni y byddant y cael trafferth i ddod a dau ben llinyn ynghyd. Ni ddylai ffurfio’r ‘10 Mawr’ adael y clybiau llai mewn trafferthion. Rhaid i’r Gymdeithas Bêl-droed ariannu’r newidiadau."
"Rhaid i’r Ail Adran weithio" meddai "ond mae’r ymateb o dde Cymru yn awgrymu nad ydyn nhw’n teimlo fod y drefn yn mynd i weithio. Tra fod clybiau fel Caernarfon, Port, Y Trallwng a Derwyddon Cefn yn weddol agos i’w gilydd i Gastell Nedd ac Lido Afan (pe byddent yn ennill dyrchafiad) bydd yn golygu llawer iawn o deithio o’r de.
"Un ateb" meddai "byddai y ‘10 mawr’ a hefyd Adran 1 y Gogledd ac Adran 1 y De."
Nid oedd am fynd yn ôl i’r Cymru Alliance "Byddai’n rhaid i’r Gymdeithas ddod o hyd i’r arian er mwyn sicrhau nad oedd safonau yn gostwng i’r clybiau sydd yn mynd i lawr i’r ail rheng."

In his weekly Daily Post column Gareth Bicknell quizzed Port chairman Phil Jones regarding the proposed reorganisation of the WPL in 2010/11. As the representative of the northern clubs on the League Board Phil said "I shall be calling a meeting of the region’s clubs next Thursday in which a response will be discussed to the FAW’s plans. The response will be put to the League’s Board on December 18th."
He expressed his concerns at the changes, "Some clubs are worried they will struggle to make ends meet. The ‘Super 10’ must not leave the smaller clubs struggling and must be funded by the FAW.
"The Second Division must be viable" he said "but feedback from South Wales suggests that they don’t think it’s going to work. While clubs like Caernarfon, Port, Welshpool, Cefn Druids are fairly close together for Neath and Afan Lido (should they be promoted) it would mean a mean a lot of travel from South Wales.
He said, "One solution could be the Super 10 with a Division 1 North and a Division 1 South."
He did not want a return to the Cymru Alliance situation "The FAW would have to stump up to ensure standards are maintained are clubs which drop into the second tier."

Rhys Roberts yn creu argraff / Rhys Roberts making an impression

Rhys Roberts Mae penderfyniad Paul Whelan i chwarae Rhys Roberts yng nghanol y cae yn lle ei rôl arferol yng nghanol yr amddiffyn wedi profi’n dipyn o weledigaeth. Er na chafodd y penderfyniad gefnogaeth pob cefnogwr ar y cychwyn, erbyn hyn mae’r bartneriaeth rhwng Rhys a Steve Kehoe yng nghanol y cae yn un allweddol i lwyddiant y clwb. Cafodd Rhys ei ganmol gan y rheolwr am ei berfformiadau yn erbyn Llanelli a Port Talbot a cafodd ei chwarae cryf a phenderfynol sylw gan eraill hefyd.
Wrth sôn am gêm Llanelli dywedodd Paul Whelan, "Gan fod Rhys wedi chwarae mor dda, cafodd ei alw yn ddiweddarach yn y dydd i garfan Cymru Dan 23 (lled broffesiynol) i gyfarfod Y Ffindir ar y nos Fawrth ganlynol. Peter Nicholas yw is-reolwr y tîm Dan 23 ac mae’n siwr fod Rhys wedi creu tipyn o argraff arno."
Methodd Rhys y gêm ddydd Sadwrn diwethaf ar ôl derbyn ei bumed cerdyn melyn ond gyda Ryan Davies wedi’i wahardd ddydd Sadwrn nesaf ac Eifion Jones wedi’i anafu mae’n debyg bydd rhaid i Rhys ddychwelyd i ganol yr amddiffyn am y tro.

Paul Whelan’s decision to switch Rhys Roberts from central defence has proved to be quite a master stroke. Though not universally appreciated at first by supporters the partnership with Steve Kehoe in midfield is now being seen as the key to future success for the club. Rhys’s performances against Llanelli and Port Talbot have been praised by his manager and his strong determined play has been noted further afield.
Paul Whelan referring to the Llanelli game said, "Rhys Roberts played so well he was called up later that day to the Wales U23 team (semi-professional) who played Finland the following Tuesday night. Peter Nicholas the Llanelli manager is assistant manager of the U23 team and must have been well impressed with Rhys."
Rhys missed last Saturday’s defeat, having received his 5th yellow, card but with Ryan Davies suspended next Saturday and Eifion Jones injured he will probably have to return to his central defensive roll for the time being.

Rhagolwg: v Castell Nedd / Preview: v Neath Athletic

Castell-nedd / Neath Yn gefndir i gêm ddydd Sadwrn yn erbyn Castell Nedd mae penderfyniad sydyn y cadeirydd Steve James a’r bwrdd cyfan i ymddiswyddo. Rhaid aros i weld os fydd hyn yn cael unrhyw effaith ar y tîm ar y cae. Rhoddodd Castell Nedd sioc i lawer yn y gynghrair gyda’u perfformiadau llynedd a chafodd y clwb help llaw gan Port. Cafwyd buddugoliaeth yn eu gêm UGC gyntaf o 2-0 ar Y Traeth. Syndod arall yw eu perfformiadau siomedig eleni sy’n eu rhoi un safle o’r gwaelod ac heb ennill un o’u naw gêm oddi cartref. Er hynny, cafwyd buddugoliaethau da mewn gemau cwpan, gan gynnwys curo TNS o 2-0. Mae’n werth sylwi hefyd fod dwy o’r tair gôl a sgoriodd Llanelli wythnos diwethaf wedi dod yn ystod amser ychwanegol. Andy Hill, a sgoriodd eu dwy gôl ar y Traeth y tymor diwethaf, yw eu prif sgoriwr eto eleni gyda 7 gôl. Blaenwr arall peryglus yw Kerry Morgan, chwaraewr ar fenthyg o Abertawe, a sgoriodd hat-tric llynedd ar Y Traeth i Port Talbot mewn buddugoliaeth o 7-2. Mae Clayton Blackmore hefyd yn eu carfan.
Creodd Port ddigon o gyfleoedd ddydd Sadwrn yn Hwlffordd ond unwaith eto talwyd y pris am gamgymeriadau yn y cefn. Mae hyn yn siomedig gan fod Paul Whelan yn adeiladu carfan dda a allai wneud brwydro yn y gwaelodion yn brofiad y gorffennol. Hwb mawr yw’r goliau sydd wedi dod o ganol cae dros y dair gêm ddiwethaf . Cafodd Gareth Parry ddwy ddydd Sadwrn yn dilyn dwy gan Steve Kehoe yn Port Talbot ac un gan Rhys Roberts yn erbyn Llanelli. Mae hon yn gêm bwysig iawn wrth gofio fod dwy gêm anodd yn dod cyn y Nadolig yn erbyn Aberystwyth a Chaerfyrddin.

The backdrop to the home fixture against Neath Athletic is the surprise resignation of their chairman Steve James and the entire board. Whether this has any effect on the team on the field we shall have to wait and see. Neath were certainly the surprise package of last season and Port, then managed by Clayton Blackmore, gave the South Wales club a flying start as they won their first ever WPL match by 2-0 at the Traeth. Equally surprising is that they have disappointed themselves to such an extent this season and lie one place off the bottom without an away win in 9 attempts. However they have some notable cup wins including the 2-0 over TNS. It is worth remembering too that two of the three goals conceded against Llanelli last week came in injury time. Andy Hill, who scored both goals at the Traeth last season, is their leading scorer again with 7 goals. Another dangerous forward is Kerry Morgan an on-loan signing from Swansea City. Port fans may remember his hat trick last season in the 7-2 defeat at the hands of Port Talbot. They also have Clayton Blackmore in their squad.
Plenty of chances were created last Saturday at Haverfordwest but once again errors at the back cost us the game. If only these could be cut out. We are now playing some excellent football and Paul Whelan is in the process of building a squad that can make struggling in the lower reaches a thing of the past. A big plus in the last three games has been the goals scored from midfield: Gareth Parry with two last week following on Steve Kehoe’s brace at Port Talbot and Rhys Roberts’s goal against Llanelli. This is a vital fixture on Saturday followed by two more hard games against Aberystwyth and Carmarthen.

Yr Ail Dîm ym mis Tachwedd / Reserves November Round-up

Dim ond un gêm gynghrair gafodd ei chwarae ym mis Tachwedd, sef gêm ar Y Traeth yn erbyn Bodedern lle cafwyd buddugoliaeth gyfforddus o 4-0 dros y clwb o Fôn. Enillwyd y gêm, fwy na heb, wrth sgorio tair gwaith mewn cyfnod o 10 munud yn ystod yr hanner cyntaf. Iestyn Woolway sgoriodd y gyntaf ar ôl 26 munud gyda Danny Rylance a Dylan Smith yn rhwydo’r ddwy arall. Cwblhaodd Mark Bridge y sgorio ar ôl 58 munud. Mae’r fuddugoliaeth hon yn cadw Port yn yr ail safle, 9 pwynt tu ôl i Flaenau Ffestiniog sydd wedi chwarae tair gêm yn fwy. Maent wedi treulio gweddill eu hamser yn chwarae mewn gwahanol gystadlaethau cwpan ac erbyn diwedd y mis maent wedi mynd allan o dair ohonynt. Collwyd i Flaenau Ffestiniog yng Nghwpan Gwynedd o 5-3 a daeth Cwpan Barritt a’r Cwpan Canolradd â hwy i wynebu dau o glybiau Uwch Gynghrair Clwyd. Yng Nghwpan Barritt, bu’n rhaid teithio i Fochdre, clwb sydd yn ail yn eu cynghrair, a colli fu’r hanes o 3-2. Aeth y clwb o Glwyd ar y blaen yn y funud gyntaf cyn i Danny Rylance ddod â’r sgôr yn gyfartal ar ôl 10 munud ond dim ond munud aeth heibio cyn i Fochdre fynd yn ôl ar y blaen. Yn yr ail hanner, daeth Cai Jones â’r sgôr yn gyfartal unwaith eto ond ar yr awr sgoriodd Mochdre eu trydydd a dal y fantais i’r diwedd. Maesglas oedd yr ymwelwyr i’r Traeth yn y Cwpan Canolradd a’r clwb o Sir Fflint sicrhaodd eu lle yn y rownd nesaf gyda buddugoliaeth o 2-0. Daeth yr unig lwyddiant mewn gêm gwpan yn erbyn Rhiwlas yng nghystadleuaeth Tarian Eryri. Port ydy deiliaid y darian, a sicrhaodd goliau Danny Rylance a Steven Jones y fuddugoliaeth.

The Reserves have played only one league game during November and that was the home game against Anglesey club Bodedern which resulted in a comfortable 4-0 win. Three goals in a ten minute spell during the first half more or less settled the game. Iestyn Woolway opened the scoring after 26 minutes and the other two came from Danny Rylance and Dylan Smith. Mark Bridge added the fourth after 58 minutes. This win leaves them still in second place, 9 points behind the leaders, Blaenau Ffestiniog, but having played three fewer games. For the remainder it has been one or other of the multitude of cup competitions and November has seen them put out of three competitions. They went out of the Gwynedd Cup at Blaenau Ffestiniog, going down by a 5-3 score line. The Barritt Cup and the Intermediate Cup brought them up against Clwyd Premier League opposition. In the Barritt Cup, they visited second placed Mochdre losing by 3-2. The Clwyd club went ahead in the first minute and though Danny Rylance levelled the score after 10 minutes it took Mochdre only a minute to restore their lead. In the second half Cai Jones brought the scores level again but it was short lived for Mochdre regained the lead on the hour and held on to win. The Intermediate Cup brought Greenfield to the Traeth and the Flintshire club ran out winners by 2-0. Their only cup success came in the Eryri Shield, a trophy which they currently hold. They ran out winners against Rhiwlas by 2-0 with Danny Rylance and Steven Jones the scorers.

Marcus yn dal i ennill ei ffitrwydd / Marcus continues his return to fitness

Marcus Orlik O leiaf roedd peth newyddion da iawn i’r Tîm Reoli ac i’r cefnogwyr ddydd Sadwrn, sef y newyddion fod Marcus Orlik wedi cwblhau ei gêm gyntaf ers iddo dorri asgwrn yn ei droed yn ôl ym mis Awst. Pythefnos yn ôl, dechreuodd ymarfer a rwan mae Marcus wedi cymryd cam pwysig arall ymlaen. Ddydd Sadwrn, chwaraeodd am y 90 munud cyfan i’r Ail Dîm yn erbyn Maes-glas. Yn anffodus, colli fu hanes yr Ail Dîm ond da clywed fod Marcus ar ei ffordd yn ôl. Er ei fod wedi bod allan ers cyfnod mor hir, deallwn nad yw’n dioddef o ganlyniad i chwarae.

There was at least some good news for the manager and supporters on Saturday as Marcus Orlik played his first competitive match since breaking his metatarsal back in August. A fortnight ago, he returned to training and now he has taken the next important step. On Saturday, he played the full 90 minutes for the Reserves against Greenfield. Though the game ended in defeat for the Reserves, it is good to know that Marcus is on his way back. We understand also that he did not suffer any after effects following his long lay off.

Rhagolwg: Hwlffordd / Preview: Haverfordwest

Hwlffordd Parhau wnaeth adfywiad Porthmadog yn Port Talbot ac mae 10 pwynt bellach wedi dod o’r bedair gêm ddiwethaf ac maent wedi sgorio 11 o goliau. Er fod Paul Whelan yn hapus iawn gyda’r canlyniad ddydd Sadwrn, ychwanegodd, "Gallwn chwarae yn well eto." Yn y rhediad o bedair gêm mae’r blaenwr dawnus Marc Lloyd Williams wedi sgorio 6 gwaith tra fod Steve Kehoe wedi canfod y rhwyd deirgwaith gydag ergydion o bell. Mae gan Hwlffordd hefyd flaenwyr peryglus. Mae Jack Christopher wedi sgorio 9 gôl gynghrair eisoes y tymor hwn, ac mae ei bartner Nick Woodrow wedi sgorio 8 gwaith. Christopher enillodd gêm y tymor diwethaf ar Ddolybont gyda dau beniad gwych. Mae dau o gyn chwaraewyr Port yng ngharfan Hwlffordd sef Dyfan Pierce a Neil Thomas. Er fod record Port adref yn erbyn Hwlffordd yn un i’w anghofio mae’r gemau yn Sir Benfro wedi bod yn eithaf agos, gan colli o 3-2 llynedd a chael gemau cyfartal yn 2006/07 a 2005/06. Dim ond un o’r pedair gêm ddiwethaf mae’r tîm o Sir Benfro wedi’u hennill gyda gêm gyfartal hefyd adref i Gaernarfon. Ond er iddynt golli yn erbyn Llanelli dywedodd y Western Mail amdanynt "... tîm cyflym a allai fod yn dipyn o rym yn y gynghrair dros y tymhorau sydd i ddod." Tri phwynt sydd yn gwahanu’r ddau glwb a gallem weld brwydr i ddiddori’r dorf a chamerâu ‘Sgorio’ ddydd Sadwrn.

The Porthmadog revival continued at Port Talbot with 10 points coming from the last four games with11 goals scored. Paul Whelan, though very pleased with Saturday’s three points, said "We can still play better." In that run of 4 games ace striker Marc Lloyd Williams has scored 6 goals while Steve Kehoe has found the net three times with cracking goals from distance. Haverfordwest also have their goal scoring dangermen. Jack Christopher has scored 9 times and his striking partner Nick Woodrow has netted eight league goals. Christopher won last season’s encounter at the New Bridge Meadow with a couple of fine headers. Dyfan Pierce and Neil Thomas, two former Port players, are included in the Haverfordwest squad. Though Port’s record at home against Haverfordwest is best forgotten, the games in Pembrokeshire have been closer affairs with a 3-2 defeat last season and draws in 2006/07 and 2005/06. The Pembrokeshire side have won only one of their last four games together with a draw at home to Caernarfon. But their play against Llanelli last Saturday, despite the defeat, drew this comment in the Western Mail "... a pacy young team who could be a force to be reckoned with over the next few seasons." Three points now separate the two clubs and supporters and the ‘Sgorio’ cameras could be in for quite an entertaining battle on Saturday.

Lluniau neu hanesion am gyfnod Mel Charles? / Reminiscences or photographs of the Mel Charles era?

Mel Charles Mae Colin Leslie, newyddiadurwr chwaraeon sydd yn gweithio ar bapur y Scotsman yn cynorthwyo Mel Charles gyda’i hunangofiant ac wedi cysylltu â'r clwb am luniau a hanesion am y cawr o Abertawe. Mae Mel yn awyddus iawn i weld ei gyfnod gyda Port yn cael sylw yn y llyfr. Treuliodd y chwaraewr rhyngwladol a chwaraeodd yng Nghwpan y Byd, 1958, gyfnod llewyrchus a llwyddiannus yn y Port yn y chwedegau cyn cael ei drosglwyddo i Port Vale am ffi reit sylweddol i’r cyfnod. Cyn ymuno a'r tîm o'r Traeth bu'n serennu gyda Arsenal a gyda’i dref enedigol Abertawe. Mae’n siwr fod gan nifer o gefnogwyr atgofion werth eu cofnodi o’r cyfnod disglair hwn. Os fedrwch helpu neu i gael mwy o wybodaeth ffoniwch 07810057444.

Colin Leslie a sports journalist on the Scotsman newspaper is helping to write an autobiography of Welsh legend and giant, Mel Charles, who appeared in the 1958 World Cup for Wales. He has been in contact with the club and is very eager to obtain photographs and reminisces of the period in the mid 1960's when he appeared in Port FC's colours. It is Mel’s wish that his period at the Traeth should be adequately remembered. This was a very successful era for the club. Mel was eventually transferred to Port Vale for a, then, very significant fee. Before arriving at the Traeth Mel had previously starred for Arsenal and his home town club Swansea. Many older fans must have fond memories, and ones worth recording, of this successful period. If you are able to help or require more information get in touch on 07810057444.

'Roedd y calendr blynyddol yn gwerthu rhai cannoedd ac yn codi arian sylweddol i'r clwb yn enwedig gan iddo ganolbwyntio ar hen luniau o'r dref, ei chymeriadau a'r timau a fu. Yn ôl llefarydd ar ran y clwb y bwriad yw cyhoeddi rhifyn 2010 yn ystod yr haf nesaf ac mae cynlluniau ar y gweill hefyd i gyhoeddi llyfryn yn dilyn hanes y clwb o'r flwyddyn a'i sefydlwyd - 1884 - i'r presennol, 125 o flynyddoedd yn ôl. Llongyfarchiadau i Danny Rylance / Congratulations Danny Rylance

Llongyfarchiadau i Danny Rylance ar gael ei ddewis i dîm Dan 18 Arfordir y Gogledd. Mae Danny wedi bod yn sgorio’n rheolaidd i’r Ail Dîm ac yn llawn haeddu cael ei gynnwys. Daeth ei berfformiadau hefyd i sylw Paul Whelan sydd wedi ei gynnwys yn y garfan ar gyfer nifer o gemau Cynghrair Cymru a pan gafodd ei alw o’r fainc mae wedi dangos dipyn o dalent. Enillodd tîm yr Arfordir ei gêm yn erbyn y Canolbarth ym Mhenrhyncoch o 1-0 ac o’r un sgôr yn erbyn eu cyfoedion o Ogledd Ddwyrain Cymru yn Queensway.

Congratulations to Danny Rylance on his selection for the North Wales Coast U 18 representative team. Danny has been in great goal scoring form for the Reserves this season and fully deserves his call up. His performances have not gone unnoticed by first team manager Paul Whelan and he has been included in the first team squad on several occasions giving a good account of himself when called from the bench. The North Wales Coast team won their game against Central Wales at Penrhyncoch by 1-0 and against their North East Wales counterparts at Queensway by the same score line

Rhagolwg: v Port Talbot / Preview: v Port Talbot

Port Talbot Ar ôl ennill 7 pwynt allan o’r naw diwethaf bydd Porthmadog yn cychwyn ar y cyntaf o ddwy daith hir mewn ysbryd tipyn yn well. Bydd y ddau glwb sy’n wynebu ei gilydd yn Stadiwm y Remax mewn hwyliau da ar ôl perfformiadau ardderchog yn erbyn Rhyl a Llanelli, dau o geffylau blaen yr adran. Un pwynt sy’n rhannu Port a Port Talbot yn y tabl ond mae’n siwr fydd y clwb o’r De yn gobeithio adeiladu ar y fuddugoliaeth yn Y Rhyl gan fod eu tymor hyd yma wedi bod braidd yn siomedig ar ôl llwyddiant y llynedd. Bydd angen i amddiffyn Porthmadog fod ar eu gorau yn erbyn Martin Rose, ymosodwr a ddangosodd ei ddawn unwaith eto wrth sgorio yn erbyn Y Rhyl. Mae’n ymosodwr peryglus iawn pan fydd yn gwrth ymosod. Yn y gêm gyfatebol y llynedd manteisiodd Rose ar gamgymeriadau Porthmadog i sgorio ddwywaith. Port Talbot enillodd o 4-2 gyda Marcus Orlik yn sgorio dwy gôl Porthmadog. Ond mae Jiws hefyd wedi bod yn canfod y rhwyd yn rheolaidd ac mae’r ffaith i Paul Whelan fynnu i’r tîm chwarae drwy ganol y cae yn dechrau talu ffordd wrth i’r ymosodwyr dderbyn y math o wasanaeth sydd angen arnynt. Mae gan Port lwyfan i adeiladu arno ar ôl y dair gêm ddiwethaf a rhaid dal ati i berfformio yn gyson.

Having picked up 7 points out of the last nine on offer Porthmadog will make the first of two long distance away trips in a much better frame of mind. Both teams, in Saturday’s Remax Stadium clash, will take great heart from excellent performances against top of the table Rhyl and Llanelli last week. A single point now separates the two clubs in the table and no doubt the South Wales club will be looking to continue the improvement, in what has been a disappointing season so far for them, following on such an excellent showing in 2007/08. Porthmadog defenders will need to be at their best against Martin Rose who proved again at Rhyl what a dangerous striker he can be -especially on the counter attack. In the corresponding game last season he showed how quickly he can capitalise on defensive errors to score twice in a 4-2 win for Port Talbot with Marcus Orlik scoring twice for Porthmadog. But Jiws has also been in excellent striking form for Porthmadog and Paul Whelan’s persistence at getting the team to play through midfield is beginning to pay dividends with the strikers getting the kind of service they need. The last three league games have provided Porthmadog with the platform to move up the table and they must look to continue this improved form.

Neges o gydymdeimlad gyda’r Rheolwr / Condolences to our manager

Paul Whelan Ar ran y clwb a’r cefnogwyr, dymunwn estyn ein cydymdeimlad â Paul Whelan a’r teulu yn dilyn marwolaeth eu tad Patrick (Paddy) Whelan ddydd Sul diwethaf (16 Tachwedd). Yn enedigol o Ddulyn, roedd Paddy Whelan yn bêl-droediwr lleol adnabyddus a chwaraeodd i glybiau Bangor, Pwllheli, Caergybi a'r Fflint. Roedd yn aelod o dîm Fflint a enillodd Gwpan Cymru yn 1954. Yn yr 1960au roedd yn hyfforddwr gyda Bangor yn y cyfnod cyffrous hwnnw pan chwaraewyd gemau Ewropeaidd yn erbyn Napoli.

On behalf of the club and supporters, we wish to extend our sincere sympathy to Paul Whelan and his family on the sad death of his father Patrick (Paddy) Whelan who passed away on Sunday (16 November). Paddy Whelan, born in Dublin, was a well known local footballer, an inside forward with an eye for goal, who played for Bangor, Pwllheli, Holyhead and Flint. He played in the Welsh Cup winning team of 1954 at Flint. In the 1960’s he was trainer with Bangor during their famous European clashes with Napoli.
